One has to assume that he is speaking of native born progressives as the American Indian does not hate the country.

Observations:

Can you believe the government in regard to what it is telling you the health care plan will cost? Here is something on which to ponder. When Medicare came about, the government told us how much it would cost. The reality today is that Medicare costs us 9 Times more today than they told us. And Medicare is a drop in the bucket compared to the dollars we are talking about with Obamacare.

You no doubt have heard the White House trumpeting the “unbelievable” success of the stimulus package as exhibited by the3rd quarter GDP coming in two tenths of a percent over prediction. Well, that is pretty much what it is; “unbelievable”.

The boost in the GDP was due solely to the “Cash for Clunkers” program. In fact, it contributed over half of the increase. When asked how the stimulus could be such a roaring success when the cash for clunkers was clearly responsible for over half of the increase, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs at first was stuck for an answer and then dismissed the questioner by saying, “Well, the GDP is up isn’t it? Next question”.

News sources are now telling us that most of those cars would have been bought soon, anyway and we will take the hit this quarter in car sales. So, in effect, they are saying that it is all business as usual; we just moved up the date a few months and concentrated it over a couple month period. Kind of a financial photo op and probably just as genuine.

As far as the much touted “stimulus package” which I have criticized from day one, appears now that it is more and more an abject failure; for a couple of reasons.

First, we are now finding that the number of jobs saved and created was wildly over exaggerated by the administration.

Secondly, only 15% of the stimulus money is out there. We are still sitting on the other 85% of the fund. Makes me wonder if Obama is sitting on it to use it as a slush fund. Remember how we had to pass this in a matter of hours because it was an emergency?

The one thing that is clear is that the stimulus package, due to the few dollars that have been disbursed, did squat for the economy. Over half of the money that was spent went to government jobs.

Another thing that is becoming clearer is that it really hasn’t done anything for jobs in the private sector. Some are now saying that upcoming reports on job losses could reveal the unemployment rate has been pushed above 10% and still rising.

A headline in our left wing rag yesterday proclaimed:

“Recession likely over, Recovery is uncertain”.

What the heck does that mean? Does it mean that they are really grasping at straws to put the administration in the best light without lying?

What it really means, as I pointed out the other day, is that the Bush recession is ending and there is a good chance that the Obama recession is beginning.

Folks, as long as Obama continues to ignore the job creation issue (he is only giving it lip service, so far) and continues to push his nation breaking spending plans, we will fall back into another recession and one that is deeper than the present one.

We now know, through a leak, that 5 democrats and 2 republicans are under investigation by the ethics committee in congress. Most, if not all, are in regard to securing earmarks for campaign contributions from a major lobbying firm and its clients.

I learn about this stuff and it just kind of rolls off of my back. If this is true, am I so damned jaded that theft of my and other’s money doesn’t faze me anymore? Something may be wrong with me!

CBO Tattles on Pelosi’s baby: (Much scarier than Rosemary’s)

WASHINGTON POST: The health package released Thursday by House leaders would increase federal spending on health care by nearly $600 billion over the next decade, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, a dramatic increase that dwarfs the expansion envisioned by the latest Senate bill.

So given the figures that I have seen, Pelosi’s little nightmare comes in at over $1 Trillion. We are soooo screwed.

The GOP has been after the dems on this but as the Washington Post put it: “A House leadership aide dismissed the charge as “GOP spin.” But, in this case, the spin is essentially true.

Where the real rub comes in is that this is the cost for essentially 5 years of the bill, not 10 years as the dems tell us! There is no health bill for 3 years and then it starts gradually phasing in over the next two years! So for a true 10 years the cost could easily be nearing $2,000,000,000,000.00, especially with cost increases.

I repeat; if this passes, we are soooo screwed!

Pelosi Health Care Bill Blows a Kiss to Trial Lawyers:

BREITBART: The health care bill recently unveiled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi is over 1,900 pages for a reason. It is much easier to dispense goodies to favored interest groups if they are surrounded by a lot of legislative legalese. For example, check out this juicy morsel to the trial lawyers (page 1431-1433 of the bill):

Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,” establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.

So, you can’t try to seek alternatives to lawsuits if you’ve actually done something to implement alternatives to lawsuits. Brilliant! The trial lawyers must be very happy today!

While there is debate over the details, it is clear that medical malpractice lawsuits have some impact on driving health care costs higher. There are likely a number of procedures that are done simply as a defense against future possible litigation. Recall this from the Washington Post:

“Lawmakers could save as much as $54 billion over the next decade by imposing an array of new limits on medical malpractice lawsuits, congressional

budget analysts said today — a substantial sum that could help cover the cost of President Obama’s overhaul of the nation’s health system. New research shows that legal reforms would not only lower malpractice insurance premiums for medical providers, but would also spur providers to save money by ordering fewer tests and procedures aimed primarily at defending their decisions in court, Douglas Elmendorf, director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, wrote in a letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).”

Stay tuned. There are certainly many more terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad provisions in this massive bill.

This has never been about health care for the poor. It is about locking in a huge portion of this nation to minute manipulation and the ability to give favors in return for favors. To control ever expanding groups of people. What is so hard about this that so many don’t get it?

…But the tonal candidate also had a conventionally liberal policy agenda. And as that agenda has run into resistance — on spending, health care and climate legislation — the president’s tone has utterly changed.

The Obama administration has gone after both Rush Limbaugh and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — showing an inability to distinguish between the burning of heretics and the burning of bridges. It has courted insurance companies, then publicly demonized them for showing independence. Obama has tended to define all opposition, particularly on health care, as resulting from fear, cowardice and selfishness — instead of admitting genuine disagreement. At a recent fundraiser, he mocked Republicans as robots who “do what they’re told.” He has engaged in consistent, classless, self-excusing criticism of his predecessor. Other presidents have been known for a war on totalitarianism or a war on terrorism. Obama is known for a war on Fox News.

“The campaign,” Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen say in Politico, “underscores how deeply political the Obama White House is in its daily operations — with a strong focus on redrawing the electoral map and discrediting the personalities and ideas that have powered the conservative movement over the past 20 years.” Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander — a conservative, but not normally an angry one — describes these tactics as behavior “typical of street brawls and political campaign consultants.” It is also behavior typical of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who called town hall protesters “evil-mongers,” and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who labeled them as “simply un-American.”

Porker of the Month:

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) Porker of the Month for loading up her goodie bag just before Halloween as she prepares to leave the Senate to run for governor of Texas.

While claiming to be a fiscal conservative, the four-term senator requested 149 pork-barrel projects costing $1.6 billion in authorization and appropriations bills for fiscal year 2010. On September 28, 2009, she told the Austin American-Statesman, “I’m proud of being able to garner Texans’ fair share of their tax dollars.” “Sen. Hutchison is repeating the same old insidious quackery about the earmarking process: that it can be made accountable and that it somehow levels the spending playing field,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz. “The only fair way to distribute the taxpayers’ money is to eliminate the practice altogether and instead work to ensure that every dime of taxpayer money is spent using the budget laws and rules that [members of Congress] themselves established.”

For personifying the tiresome hypocrisy of some members of Congress who want to claim the badge of fiscal conservatism while continuing to abscond with billions of dollars in wasteful pork projects, CAGW names Sen. Hutchison the October Porker of the Month.

Pretty well says it all, folks.

Net Neutrality Rules are a Bad Solution in Search of a Non-Existent Problem:

(Washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today once again reiterated its strong opposition to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) intention to embark on a regulatory goose chase. Starting tomorrow, (October 22,)the FCC begins its ill-conceived venture into drafting new rules and regulations to dictate how broadband companies must manage access to the internet.

In an October 20, 2009 Broadcasting & Cable article, John Eggerton reported that “[T]he key will be how the FCC ends up defining network management and what practices that definition allows or appears to foreclose. Some conservative Democrats have expressed their own concerns that the FCC not produce rules that discourage private investment and boost the price of broadband, thus widening the economic divide between Internet haves and have-nots.”

“Contrary to the lingo, ‘net neutrality’ is anything but neutral,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz. “Before the FCC has even gaveled the meeting to order, special, politically-driven carve-outs are reportedly being negotiated behind closed doors.” Today’s CongressDailyAM reported that “Democratic FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has been pushing to exempt online companies such as Google and Skype from the network neutrality regulations he wants in place to preserve the Internet’s openness…Instead, a set of proposed rules — which the agency’s five commissioners plan to vote on Thursday — would subject only broadband providers, such as AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon, to tighter regulation.”

“The Internet has flourished with a minimum of political intervention. There is no pressing need for government involvement and no good will come from the government’s creating a phony role for itself. The Internet has been a wide-open playing field for a whole host of fierce competitors and has flourished because of government’s benign indifference.

However, the new culture in Washington dictates that there is nothing anymore that is off-limits to the long arm of the feds and the FCC now wishes to meddle by setting up new rules dictating how private sector companies handle web content. Taxpayers will rue the day that government regulation choked off innovation on the Internet. Among other things, these new rules would prevent broadband providers from offering expedited delivery speeds at higher prices, creating onerous barriers to innovation, which is the life’s blood of the Internet,” continued Schatz.

“Net neutrality rules will not be neutral when it comes to taxpayers. Any new federal regulatory role will necessitate a giant and expensive bureaucracy, whose employees will serve as the Internet police,” concluded Schatz.

Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.

There you have it folks. Besides fining or preventing internet carriers from carrying undesirable content (contrary to the government line) taxes on providers will drive costs to the consumer significantly higher.

Global Warming:

LONDON TIMES: Exaggerated and inaccurate claims about the threat from global warming risk undermining efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and contain climate change, senior scientists have told The Times.

Environmental lobbyists, politicians, researchers and journalists who distort climate science to support an agenda erode public understanding and play into the hands of skeptics, according to experts including a former government chief scientist.

Excessive statements about the decline of Arctic sea ice, severe weather events and the probability of extreme warming in the next century detract from the credibility of robust findings about climate change, they said.

Such claims can easily be rebutted by critics of global warming science to cast doubt on the whole field. They also confuse the public about what has been established as fact, and what is conjecture.

That’s what we are, folks; confused.

Observations:

I am beginning to wonder if I march to a different drummer or if I just have no sense of rhythm, whatsoever.

Pelosi has outdone herself this time. The new bill is 1990 pages long-nearly 2000 pages! And if the devil is in the details, this bill is pure HELL!

Have you noticed that as violence in Pakistan is peaking, Obama sends Hillary over there? Does the timing of this seem suspicious to you?

I sent out the results of a Gallup poll on the 26th showing that only 20% of the people claimed to be liberal, which has held true for the past 15+ years. If that is the case, we have a serious case of the tail wagging the dog in congress.

I see where Obama is complaining about people getting upset with his date night. He said he would be very happy if he wasn’t president, he could take his wife on the shuttle to Broadway with no photogs and no political dissent.

Well, Mr. President, that would make two us who would be happy (if you weren’t president). While Bill O’Reilly thinks people should let the president alone in this respect, but I am not sure I do, especially when his dates cost the taxpayer $2 Million each. Maybe he could take her with him on his next trip to Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON POST: The nation’s preeminent seniors group, AARP, has put the weight of its 40 million members behind health-care reform, saying many of the proposals will lower costs and increase the quality of care for older Americans.

But not advertised in this lobbying campaign have been the group’s substantial earnings from insurance royalties and the potential benefits that could come its way from many of the reform proposals.

The group and its subsidiaries collected more than $650 million in royalties and other fees last year from the sale of insurance policies, credit cards and other products that carry the AARP name, accounting for the majority of its $1.14 billion in revenue, according to federal tax records. It does not directly sell

insurance policies but lends its name to plans in exchange for a tax-exempt cut of the premiums.

Earlier this year, AARP and UnitedHealth said they were halting the sale of “limited benefit” health insurance policies after complaints from Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) that the plans were marketed in a misleading way.

Dean A. Zerbe, a former Grassley senior counsel who is now national managing director at the corporate tax firm Alliant Group, argues that AARP’s involvement in the sale of insurance plans “really hurts their credibility.”

“Either you’re a voice for the elderly or you’re an insurance company; choose one,” Zerbe said. “They put themselves forward in the public arena as nonbiased observers, but they’re very swayed by business interests.”

Now I know why they are pushing this damn health care bill that guts Medicare. AARP, by their actions, are selling the very people that they purport to represent down the sewer!!!!

The 60,000 seniors that cut up their AARP cards last summer were right. Well, it looks like AARP is going to have to get along without me.

POLITICO: One of the 20 finalists in health care video contest run by Barack Obama’s campaign arm features a mural of an America flag splattered with health care graffiti until it’s covered completely by black paint.

In the video – which is accompanied by the sound of a heart monitor pumping and then flat-lining – words such as “pre-existing conditions,” “homeless” and “death panel” ultimately obliterate the flag, which reappears on screen seconds later with the words “Health Will Bring Our Country Back to Life” on the blue field where the 50 stars usually are.

According to the Organizing for American Web site, the 20 finalists in the “Health Reform Video Challenge” were chosen by a panel of “qualified” Democratic National Committee “employee judges.”

More on the stimulus:

WASHINGTON POST: President Obama and members of Congress told federal agencies earlier this year to avoid awarding funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to contractors with troubled histories of work for the federal government.

But that isn’t happening at numerous agencies, a Washington Post analysis shows. So far, 33 federal departments and agencies have awarded more than $1.2

billion in stimulus contracts to at least 30 companies that are ranked by one watchdog group as among the most egregious offenders of state and federal laws.

What can I say?

The Latest, Greatest bill for the proletariat:

POLITICO: It runs more pages than War and Peace, has nearly five times as many words as the Torah, and its tables of contents alone run far longer than this story.

The House health care bill unveiled Thursday clocks in at 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words. With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word. . Except that the CBO is talking about over a Trillion at now.

And for some members, that may not be enough.

A “robust” public option can’t be found in the bill. Neither can the word “doctor” – save for a few references to degrees. No “cost curve” is bent. No “blue pill” is dispensed.

And for those who cry “read the bill,” beware. There are plenty of paragraphs like this one:

“(a) Outpatient Hospitals – (1) In General – Section 1833(t)(3)(C)(iv) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395(t)(3)(C)(iv)) is amended – (A) in the first sentence – (i) by inserting “(which is subject to the productivity adjustment described in subclause (II) of such section)” after “1886(b)(3)(B)(iii); and (ii) by inserting “(but not below 0)” after “reduced”; and (B) in the second sentence, by inserting “and which is subject, beginning with 2010 to the productivity adjustment described in section 1886(b)(3)(B)(iii)(II)”.

The section deals with “incorporating productivity improvements into market basket updates that do not already incorporate such improvements,” if that helps.

Optimistic lawmakers say it could take a week just to get through the bill’s text.

“I’ll have to call an emergency meeting of my staff and drop the customary procedure of me reading and my staff not reading,” joked House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.), who famously told filmmaker Michael Moore that lawmakers “don’t read most of the bills.”

Did I not warn you that this bill would be pure HELL?

Whoever was responsible for writing the above undecipherable crap should be taken out on the White House lawn and summarily executed.

It’s Baaack!

WASHINGTON — It’s alive.

The Medicare end-of-life planning provision that 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said was tantamount to “death panels” for seniors is staying in the latest Democratic health care bill unveiled Thursday.

The provision allows Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling to help beneficiaries deal with the complex and painful decisions families face when a loved one is approaching death.

You know? At sometime, it is appropriate to make a dying person comfortable and not go to over the top procedures to prolong a life that no longer is coherent and that will end soon, regardless of what is done.

The problem occurs when loved ones and government health administrators disagree when that point is reached; especially if the medical providers are squeezed for cash. That can move that point up significantly in the providers mind. As I reported several months ago, the British system is awash in lawsuits, apparently many as a result of similar disagreements.

I have told my kids that I do not want extraordinary procedures carried out on me if there is no hope that I will regain consciousness or that my quality of life will be nil. It’s a tough question all the way around.

Why can’t the Yellow Rats Learn?

WASHINGTON POST: As U.S. lawmakers engage in a tense debate over health-care reform, Chinese authorities, too, are attempting to fix their system. Over the past five years, the government has tried to provide coverage to more of its 1.4 billion people. But even people covered by a minimal health insurance program are often left with big hospital bills and must pay for most outpatient services and medication. More than 300 million people do not have any health insurance.

In a country once committed to erasing class differences, the gap in the quality of care has been steadily growing, too. Peking University People’s Hospital, for example, has computerized charts, GE scanners, top-flight doctors and a deluxe ward where the wealthy can pay extra for private suites. But community clinics in most cities or rural areas tend to be understaffed and poorly equipped. Does this constitute Rationing?

“We go to clinics for colds, but we don’t trust the doctors because they are all being paid by the drug companies and so they over-prescribe,” (Obama’s back door deal with the drug companies?)said Helen Ye, a Beijing resident who works for a U.S. company. “So most Chinese people, if they don’t feel really sick, do home treatment and try to cure themselves.”

China’s State Council is eager to improve the situation but can’t decide how. The government currently fixes the prices of all medical services, and doctors are treated — and paid — like public officials. But that has contributed to a shortage of doctors as many talented Chinese choose better-paid professions.

We will start seeing this early next year in Medicare when seniors will not be able to find doctors that will take Medicare that can accept more patients.

The well known problems with this universal health care that the yellow rats are pushing should be GLARING evidence that this is not at all

about our health care. The yellow rats know all about this. They just don’t care.

If you still think that this is about health care, you have not been paying attention to the issues.

Pelosi strangely quiet on this:

NEWSBUSTERS: Recently a lot of hubbub had been made about the possibility that the peaceful tea party protests and some conservative voices would stir up emotions that could lead to violence. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was even one of those sounding that alarm.

But what has gone unsaid by those same voices has been the possibility of violence against those who might take a position antithetical to that of the left.

Case in point: CNN’s Lou Dobbs. Dobbs, who has been the target of a smear campaign by the left-wing noise machine, told his radio audience on Oct. 26 that his home had been shot at three weeks earlier. (Unabbreviated audio available here)

“But I want to tell you, when you talk about what they’ve done - they’ve created an atmosphere and they’ve been unrelenting in their propaganda,” Dobbs said. “Three weeks ago this morning, a shot was fired at my house where I live. My wife was standing out and that followed weeks and weeks of threatening phone calls.”

Dobbs detailed the event, the notification of law enforcement and threatening phone calls he had received after the fact.

“And, as I told the state patrol, and by the way, the New Jersey State Patrol is absolutely terrific - they responded instantly. But this shot was fired with my wife not, I don’t know, 15 feet away and we had threatening phone calls that I decided not to report because I get threatening phone calls,” Dobbs continued. “I now - it’s become a way of life - the anger, the hate, the vitriol, but it’s taken a different tone where they’ve threatened my wife. They’ve now fired a shot at my house while my wife was standing next to the car. It’s become something else.”

The CNN host later took a shot at the “national liberal media,” which he claims has taken a side on the immigration issue and has created this sort of reckless environment.

“But we’ve got to start being honest,” Dobbs said. “Instead, the national liberal media has chosen sides and they’ve decided that they’re going to focus on the liberal view, which is that they will embrace illegal immigration - no matter who is harmed, no matter how many laws are broken or how few consequences there are for breaking those laws.”

I am getting so tired of the liberal media, I just want to throw up. They are no better than the yellow rats that they protect!

WORLD NET DAILY:…WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama’s status as a “natural born citizen.” The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama’s American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama’s citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Further, others question his citizenship by virtue of his attendance in Indonesian schools during his childhood and question on what passport did he travel to Pakistan three decades ago.

Adding fuel to the fire is Obama’s persistent refusal to release documents that could provide answers and the appointment – at a cost confirmed to be at least $1.7 million – of myriad lawyers to defend against all requests for his documentation. While his supporters cite an online version of a “Certification of Live Birth” from Hawaii as his birth verification, critics point out such documents actually were issued for children not born in the state.

The ultimate questions remain unaddressed to date: Is Obama a natural born citizen, and, if so, why hasn’t documentation been provided? And, of course, if he is not,

what does it mean to the 2008 election or the U.S. Constitution if it is revealed that there has been a violation?

WND has reported on another case, being heard by U.S. District Judge David Carter in California. He released a ruling noting the government’s motion to dismiss was being taken “under submission.” But he also approved a final calendar for the case to be proceeding in his court.

Observations:

Well, Halloween is Saturday and I can’t think of better timing for the yellow rats to roll out their version, what? 26 of their health care bill, likely to be the scariest thing that any of us has seen in our entire lives.

They will be looking for a vote as early as next week, so use the congressional directory at the end of this newsletter to get your congressional representative’s email address and write your disapproval over the weekend so all you have to do is pull the trigger next week, if necessary.

This bill will end up replacing private health care because a profit making enterprise cannot compete with an entity that does not have to make a profit and in fact has the ability to run Trillions of dollars of deficits for years on end.

Further, it attacks seniors. By taking $500 Billion out of Medicare to support this travesty, it will have the effect of denying many seniors health care altogether, in many cases. Doctors and hospitals are already announcing that they won’t be taking Medicare after the 1st of the year. When that happens, seniors will not be able to find replacement doctors because many will have left the program and those still in the program will be absolutely overwhelmed.

I can also give you a hint of what public health care will be like. One individual, whom I know, was on subsidized health care for several years at one time. They tell me they went to the same doctor for four (4) years and never once met the doctor; not even in an initial meeting. Their health was totally handled by nurses.

Pelosi still hasn’t explained her statement that this bill would not be paid for by taxpayer dollars; and Obama has supported that outright lie. How stupid do they think we are? Well, pretty stupid I guess, else we wouldn’t have elected them in the first place.

Folks, the effects of this bill are no different from the effects of the first bill that everybody called a disaster. They have just put a different shade of lipstick on this pig!

By the way, Pelosi now has the votes! We all better get off of our duff and contact our congress, or its going to be too late.

The Daily Mail reports that human eggs and sperm have been grown in the laboratory in a move that could change the face of parenthood.

However, it raise several moral and ethical concerns which include the possibility of children being born through entirely artificial means and men and women sidelined from the process of making babies.

The U.S. government funded research also offers the prospect of a “miracle pill” which would delay menopause and allow women to have children later in life.

The yellow rats will be all over this. This could mean that they could farm babies without parents, raise them in yellow rat schools and indoctrinate them to be yellow rats from the get-go. What a way to grow your own constituency. No more messy border issues with importing illegals into the country. It would be so simple and all of us would pay for their education.

OK, I admit that borders on the absurd, but I will guarantee you that the subject will be tossed around by the yellow rats before discarding.

A former writer for serial intern abuser David Letterman said she quit his NBC talk show in part because of alleged sexual favoritism and a hostile work environment.

Nell Scovell, in an article for Vanity Fair said she had no intention of filing a lawsuit and wasn’t seeking revenge.

“I wanted to shine a light on gender inequality in that particular workplace,” Scovell said.

She went on to say that she was aware of rumors that Dave was having sexual relationships with female staffers.

She also said that other high-level male employees were having sexual relationships with female staffers as well and the women gained professional benefits from those relationships. (I guess that makes those women professionals, huh?)

While she said she wouldn’t sue and just wanted to, in essence, do the right thing here, it sure sounds like a little bitterness here, which she may be entitled to.

Wait a minute!!!! Are we talking about Dave? The sweetheart and attack dog for the far left? Couldn’t be. Yellow rats don’t act that way…do they? I mean, that wouldn’t be…be…be politically correct, would it? Can you spell hypocrite? I guess I just did it for you.

It’s the Jobs, Stupid!

CHICAGO (AP) — Consumers’ confidence about the U.S. economy fell unexpectedly in October as job prospects remained bleak, a private research group said Tuesday, fueling speculation that an already gloomy holiday shopping forecast could worsen.

The Consumer Confidence Index, released by The Conference Board, sank unexpectedly to 47.7 in October — its second-lowest reading since May.

Forecasters predicted a higher reading of 53.1.

A reading above 90 means the economy is on solid footing. Above 100 signals strong growth.

The index has seesawed since reaching a historic low of 25.3 in February and climbed to 53.4 in September.

Obama has been totally ignoring the job issue again. He is working on everything else, but…

It appears that we may be coming out of the Bush recession and if Obama doesn’t do something about jobs, we are just about to enter the Obama recession; and if he gets his spending bills through (health care and Cap and Trade among others) maybe the Obama Depression! The problem is that even if he does the right thing, it will take 6 to 12 months to start working. If he waits longer, it will take longer to work.

This lack of action on his part, all by itself, makes this man one of the most dangerous politicians that this country has ever had the misfortune to elect.

Enjoy this rebound while you can, folks. This may be as good as it gets.

The Lie that was the stimulus:

WASHINGTON (AP) - An early progress report on President Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.

The government’s first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.

The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.

For example:

- A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.

- A Georgia community college reported creating 280 jobs with recovery money, but none was created from stimulus spending.

- A Florida child care center said its stimulus money saved 129 jobs but used the money on raises for existing employees….

I have been saying that the stimulus package was a fraud from the beginning.

In fact, Herbert Hoover, while Keynes was still developing his economic theories, tried the same thing at the beginning of the great depression, then known as counter cyclic stimulation. It funded public works projects to put people back to work.

Two things here; first of all, Hoover didn’t have the economic tools or knowledge base to work with in 1930 that we do today and secondly, a greater percentage of the population made their living with their hands in those days.

And guess what, it didn’t work back then either. FDR followed up with institutionalizing the public works projects in the WPA and the CCC, among others, but evolving evidence does not support the theory that these worked very well, either.

Do you folks see a pattern developing here? Has the administration ever told the truth about anything since they took power?

Here are some more of the findings by AP:

- Colorado-based Teletech Government Solutions on a $28.3 million contract with the Federal Communications Commission for creation of a call center, reported creating 4,231 jobs, although 3,000 of those workers were paid for five weeks or less.

“We all felt it was an appropriate way to represent the data at the time” and the reporting error has been corrected, said company president Mariano Tan.

- The Toledo, Ohio-based Koring Group received two FCC contracts, again for call centers. It reported hiring 26 people for each contract, or a total of 52 jobs, but cited the same workers for both contracts. The jobs only lasted about two months.

The FCC spotted the problem. The company’s owner, Steve Holland, acknowledged the actual job count is closer to five and blamed the problem on confusion about the reporting.

The AP’s review identified nearly 600 contracts claiming stimulus money for more than 2,700 jobs that appear to have similar duplicated counts.

- Barbara Moore, executive director of the Child Care Association of Brevard County in Cocoa, Fla., reported that the $98,669 she received in stimulus money saved 129 jobs at her center, though the cash was used to give her 129 employees a 3.9 percent cost-of-living raise. She said she needed to boost their salaries because some workers had left “because we had not been able to give them a raise in four years.”

- Officials at East Central Technical College in Douglas, Ga., said they now know they shouldn’t have claimed 280 stimulus jobs linked to more than $200,000 to buy trucks and trailers for commercial driving instruction, and a modular classroom and bathroom for a health education program.

“It was an error on someone’s part,” said Mike Light, spokesman for the Technical College System of Georgia. The 280 were not jobs, but the number of students who would benefit, he said.

- The San Joaquin, Calif., Regional Rail Commission reported creating or saving 125 jobs as part of a stimulus project to lay railroad track. Because the project drew from two pools of money, the commission reported the jobs figure twice, bringing the total to

250 on the government report. Spokesman Thomas Reeves said the commission corrected the data Tuesday.

A much more comprehensive report is due on Friday, I am told. But it is by the government.

So much for the “neat” option:

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) – US drone strikes against suspected terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan could be breaking international laws against summary executions, the UN’s top investigator of such crimes said.

“The problem with the United States is that it is making an increased use of drones/Predators (which are) particularly prominently used now in relation to Pakistan and Afghanistan,” UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions Philip Alston told a press conference.

“My concern is that drones/Predators are being operated in a framework which may well violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law,” he said.

US strikes with remote-controlled aircraft against Al-Qaeda and Taliban targets in Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan have often resulted in civilian deaths and drawn bitter criticism from local populations.

“The onus is really on the United States government to reveal more about the ways in which it makes sure that arbitrary extrajudicial executions aren’t in fact being carried out through the use of these

Pressure is building on Obama:

BREITBART: Carnage in Pakistan and America’s bloodiest month in Afghanistan are sharpening President Barack Obama’s dilemma on troop deployments while stoking political demands for swifter action.

“We watch this situation continue to deteriorate while this long protracted process of decision making goes on,” Republican Senator John McCain told CBS on Wednesday.

“We are not operating in a vacuum. The president of the United States needs to make this decision and soon. Our allies are nervous and our military leadership is becoming frustrated.”

According to Obama during the campaign, Iraq was George Bush’s war and Afghanistan is his war. Be careful what you wish for, Mr. President.

Global Warming update:

BREITBART: CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A storm that brought the first heavy snow of autumn to a large portion of the Rockies and western plains prompted officials to close schools in Wyoming on Wednesday and was blamed for dozens of accidents in the state and in neighboring Colorado.

Up to 18 inches of snow was forecast in Denver and along the northern Colorado Front Range. As much as 4 feet was possible in the Colorado mountains. Cheyenne was expected to get at least 14 inches before the storm moves off Thursday afternoon.

Observations:

Remember when Obama said during the campaign that C-span would cover the negotiations over the health care bill. Do you know where the health care bill is being written now? Well, no one else seems to know either. The people that are writing it are a representative of the white house, Harry Reid and one other individual in a locked room and no one knows where the room is located.

Folks, this is an out and out con game! The yellow rats are making this up as they go. No one else has an idea of what is in it. Now Reid has said that the bill will have an opt out option.

First of all, in light of all of Obama’s statements to the contrary, the bill is being written in absolute secrecy, not only from the public, but from the rest of congress as well. Secondly, this opt out option is a fraud.

If the states opt out, we will still be paying the taxes for the rest of the country, we just will not get the benefit of the insurance. What kind of a deal is that?

I have to agreed to meet a friend at the Winey (the Center of the Earth), whose picture is next to the term “liberal” in the dictionary, and at great personal risk to myself, I might add (there seems to be a dimensional rift in this place, into which people have been known to disappear for days at a time during heavy discourse). After several months of my wheedling and cajoling, he has finally agreed to talk to me about the health care bill. I will report on my debate with him.

Folks, the public are pulling away from this bill as we speak. It is probably the single greatest example of Irresponsible legislation in the history of this country. It is clear that the yellow rats do not think it has a chance if held up to scrutiny and their only chance is to spring it on congress and get a quick vote before anyone knows what is in it.

Have you noted that the San Francisco City council has passed a new law now that shields illegal aliens who have been arrested on felony charges from being turned over to the feds until AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN CONVICTED!

This is a city of which Janet Napolitano and Obama can be proud.

The latest on the health care bill. Dingy Harry is being a good do-be for Obama and is working his little fingers to the bone trying to craft a health care bill crafty enough to slip by the American population.

•Small business (under 50 employees) would not be required to provide health insurance to employees.

•Large business would be subject to a severe fine (up to $750 per person times the total number of employees, even if only a few workers needed a government subsidy to help pay for insurance.

•All people would still be required to purchase the health insurance.

•In a scam to take our eye off of the ball, it has been suggested that instead of government run insurance, we could have non-profit insurance co-ops. Two things on this:

  1. It is a reasonable bet that Non-profit co-ops would eventually run private insurance out of business by dropping the pool of insured’s to a point where it no longer was financially feasible for private insurers to offer the insurance. Keep in mind, you would still be paying elevated levels of taxation to support the public option; plus maybe another 40% tax on your private health care (assuming it was still available).
  2. Who would run the co-ops? The government, of course!

Senator Chuck Shumer, (D-NY) a big supporter of the public option is saying that they are close to the 60 votes they need to pass the bill.

If you are blessed with Blue Dog Democrats or conservative congress folk, write them a letter and thank them for holding the line on this outrage. If they are yellow rat dems, send them their pink slip.

In the past, I have watched foreign auto manufacturer’s product lines to get an idea of what they thought the economy had in store for us in 7-10 years. It was about 10 years ago that I got an inkling that Mercedes Benz and BMW were beginning to consider smaller, cheaper models for the U.S., something that they had eschewed for the previous twenty years, with a couple of exceptions.

Now, I see Honda has scrapped their total product plan and are looking at new smaller, lighter, more fuel efficient cars. They are even increasing the amount of electric cars in their model mix to raise their CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy).

Honda has scrapped its rear wheel drive, V-8 program that was probably slated for their Acura brand. In addition, they have stopped all work on the civic and will down size it rather than add some size (I can barely get in a Civic, now). Accord and other models will suffer the same fate. These types of mid-stream moves can prove to be very expensive for a manufacturer, but Honda appears to be that concerned.

Honda is also re-assessing their pricing policies, intending to try to lower the price of their cars while still maintaining the legendary Honda quality.

I do not believe that they see rosy days ahead for the average U.S. citizen. In fact, I see that they believe that the U.S. will be a poor nation, with its residents unable to afford any of the nicer things in life. But, then, if you have been paying attention to the out of control spending plans and the trillion + dollar a year deficits for at least the next ten years, you already knew that.

I read an article over the weekend that put me in mind of something that I hadn’t thought about in a long time. That something is velocity.

Longtime readers know that I have been warning about run-away inflation since Obama’s unsustainable spending plans became public (which is why the health care plan is being done in secret). But why hasn’t that begun to happen? The deficit for this past year is $1.4 Trillion and the outlook for the next 10 years is at least a Trillion dollar a year deficit. Well, it should have and it will.

We actually have had some inflation, already. About 13-15% in the past 12 months or so (my best guess). The reason that the official estimate is so low is that the government has monkeyed with the protocol for determining the CPI so much, that it doesn’t bear much resemblance to what we experience in the street.

I think that this current inflation is due to the fall of the dollar and anticipatory pricing of goods producers overseas on the dollars further devaluation. Also, manufacturers raised prices tremendously because of the $4 a gallon fuel. When it went down, the manufacturers didn’t bother to lower their prices. Tires, for instance, are still up about 35% over what they were right before the spike in fuel prices.

The reason that inflation isn’t still higher appears to be two- fold: First, the world isn’t sure yet that Obama will be successful in ruining our economy and secondly, the velocity (of money) hasn’t been there.

I haven’t thought about the velocity of money (or lack thereof) since Carter was President. It has to do with how fast money is being put into the economy and spent (how fast money is churned, in other words).

The 4th grade class, in their inimitable wisdom, funded the TARP and simultaneously threatened banks with strict adherence to their capitalization ratios. Not being dummies, the banks took the money and squirreled it away to bolster the ratios when the loan losses really started hitting them. Consequently, all of the TARP money never made it into the economy through new loans. If it had, we just might be further up the road to recovery.

Obama blesses another Union:

WASHINGTON POST: Long-sought changes to the pay and benefits structure for current and former federal employees await President Obama’s signature.

The defense authorization bill passed by the Senate on Thursday night included alterations to benefits and practices first announced earlier this month. Perhaps the biggest change is that members of the Federal Employees Retirement System will be able to get credit for unused sick leave when they retire. The provision will be phased in over the next four years.

Has Obama ever met a union he didn’t like? Given the derelicts that populate the management of the SEIU, I doubt it.

The guys who want to be in charge of your health care:

WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration has allowed drugs for cancer and other diseases to stay on the market even when follow-up studies showed they didn’t extend patients’ lives, say congressional investigators.

A report due out Monday from the Government Accountability Office also shows that the FDA has never pulled a drug off the market due to a lack of required follow-up about its actual benefits - even when such information is more than a decade overdue.

When pressed about that policy, agency officials said they have no plans to get more aggressive.

The GAO says the FDA should do more to track whether drugs approved based on preliminary results actually have lived up to their promise.

The FDA responded that the report paints an overly negative picture of its so-called “accelerated approval” program, which is only used to approve drugs for the most serious diseases.

Twenty years ago I said that we should scrape the top 10% of the managers of all of the federal entities right off. And then tell the newbie’s that if they operate as their predecessors did, we will scrape them off too. I haven’t changed my opinion.

I wish we could do it to the White House. Hell, Joe Biden is beginning to look good, and if that isn’t bad enough, I am finding myself pining for the Clinton days. Does that give you an idea of how much trouble I think we are in?

How things really work:

WASHINGTON POST: It takes a while for most start-up companies to gain the confidence of a U.S. congressman and the promise of federal funds. But last year, a small Illinois company accomplished its goal in 16 days with the help of Rep. Peter J. Visclosky, a little-known Indiana Democrat who sits on the House committee that funds the Pentagon….

A Post review shows that the K&L Gates clients winning Visclosky’s support, along with their lobbyists and investors, donated almost $200,000 to Visclosky and an additional $130,000 to the House Democratic campaign committee since 2005. The donations often came in clusters, around the time Visclosky’s committee was crafting its annual earmarks, which are added to the budget by committee members and do not go through the competitive or approval processes required for most government contracts….

Both Visclosky and K&L Gates declined interview requests. Visclosky’s attorney, Reid Weingarten, said in an e-mail: “Congressman Visclosky proudly helped many companies doing innovative and important work receive federal funds. Some of these companies chose to support his campaigns with legal and public contributions. This is traditional, open and utterly normal activity on the Hill that is protected by our laws and Constitution.” …

“While Members of Congress may lawfully seek campaign contributions from our clients, and some of our clients have attended their fundraisers, we have always been clear that campaign contributions cannot be a condition for any appropriation or official action,” the statement said. …

In Congress, this is called freedom of speech. If you don’t pay, just try to get in to see your congers folk.

Speaking of health care reform, have any of you ever heard what the dems think is so wrong with health care, outside of less than a half dozen insurance company abuses, that the whole program needs to be thrown out instead of just fixing what is broken?

U.S. Chamber topping White House enemy list:

The chief lobbyist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce alleged Sunday that there is a White House campaign of “invectives” and “name-calling” against his organization, and said the business group is eager to ignore the heated rhetoric. Well, of course they are name calling; they are the 4th grade class!

Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” longtime Chamber lobbyist Bruce Josten said the group’s relationship with the White House began to sour after differences of opinion developed about President Obama’s health-care and economic agendas.

“Let’s be clear, we haven’t raised up the Cain. It came from their side of the street,” Josten said, referring to the White House, which sits just across Lafayette Park from the Chamber’s national headquarters.

“We intend to remain focused on our goals and our responsibilities to represent the American business,” Josten said. “We’re not going to take the bait and engage in a name-calling campaign here of invectives back and forth. We’re going to stay focused.”

White House officials contend they are not waging a campaign against the Chamber and they say top officials remain open to discussions with the group’s leadership… Like they contended that they weren’t waging a campaign against Fox News until the White House director of communication got caught on tape saying that they were.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel on Friday accepted a request to be the keynote speaker at the Chamber’s board meeting early next month. And the president invited the Chamber and the National Federation of Independent Business to the White House for an event on Thursday in which he will discuss small business.

“There has, of course, been disagreement on issues like energy and regulatory reform,” said deputy press secretary Jen Psaki, referring to the Chamber’s vocal opposition to many of the administration’s chief policy goals. “But we’re going to

continue to work with the Chamber on a variety of issues including job creation for large and small businesses.”

But despite the efforts of both sides to dial back the tensions over the weekend, the clash between the Chamber and the White House is a clear indication that Obama intends to challenge the power of lobbyists.

During his presidential campaign, Obama vowed to “tell Washington, and their lobbyists, that their days of setting the agenda are over.” And just a month into office, he said in a radio address that “the system we have now might work for the powerful and well-connected interests that have run Washington for far too long, but I don’t. I work for the American people.” The unspoken part of that is: “except for our lobbyists”. Hell, Obama’s administration is riddled with lobbyists.

That sentiment has run into a massive lobbying presence in Washington which is fighting back against the president’s push for health-care reform, his climate change legislation and his plans to regulate the financial sector.

But Obama is fighting back, too, by seeking to meet directly with business leaders and by verbally calling out groups such as the Chamber for their reliance on big-time lobbying. I noted that Obama, by meeting separately with business, is trying to marginalize the Chamber’s influence. According to Rahm Emanuel, the Chamber “scares the bleep out of him”; and you know how vicious rats can be when they are cornered.

Psaki said the reaction from Josten and others at the Chamber is an indication that they are feeling the impact of Obama’s efforts. I don’t expect that it is much fun having an enemy bring the full might of the federal government against you.

Rahm Emanuel has accepted an invitation to speak at a Chamber function. The smart money says that the 4th grade connivers are going to use this opportunity to secretly schmooze the Chamber and undercut the director of communications, who publicized this rift. One more that will be thrown under the bus if necessary.

Observations: I Read a report over the weekend regarding the fact that marriage is losing ground in the U.S.

The progressives tell us to butt out of the issue of marriage; that we are interfering with people’s right to make their own lifestyle decisions. That is one way to look at it.

However, regardless of your religious views on marriage, this fact does not bode well for us as a society; primarily because of the children that are always born out of these types of unions. I have a hard time understanding why these people are so damn stupid.

•In any case, the study gave us a few facts to consider.

•In 1970, nearly 90% of the children were born to married parents.

•Last year, it was 60%.

•Statistics show that children who are born in wedlock are significantly less likely to live in poverty, to have emotional or behavioral problems, to engage in premature sexual activity, to use drugs or commit suicide.

“Every single pathology or problem or difficulty a child can experience—every single one—growing up outside of a married couple home elevates the risk.”

It is beginning to occur to me that the intelligencia aren’t so intelligent after all.

Society has been standing around for several decades now wondering about the increasing drug use, crime rates and viciousness in our society. Well, folks, here is part of it. This has a very real cost to society in both the victimization of individuals as well as the policing and incarceration costs to all of us.

Speaking of the intelligencia, it appears that some of their most cherished programs just don’t work in real life.

A recent article outlined a climate experiment by a group of polluters and environmentalists in the northeastern corner of Bolivia that was started over a decade ago. The basic premise was to compensate for greenhouse gas emissions by preserving forests. The coalition of U.S. utility companies, two non-profit groups and the Bolivian government had the common goal of making a dent in worldwide deforestation that accounts for about 17% of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

While the experiment kept about 6,000 square miles of forests from being logged, it has fallen far short of its goal of reducing emissions.

This tends to illustrate the complexity of a much-heralded approach that Democratic lawmakers and international negotiators are trying to write into law.

(I’m being nice here) Saving the forest to absorb green house gases, as well as provide a habitat for wild life has been a prime goal for environmentalists. It also gives the

world’s largest emitters of green house gases more affordable carbon credits under the cap and trade system that congers is now debating.

But a report from Greenpeace questions the premise of using forest conservation overseas to compensate for U.S. pollution. The premise was to keep 55 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere over 30 years, but has now been lowered that expectation to 5.8 million.

Not only are the progressive democrats poster children for unintended consequences, they are also the party of overly simplistic solutions that usually don’t work.

Have you heard the latest? I read a column by Kathleen Parker, another Washington Post writer who tends to be as unpartisan as possible. There is a website out there called “republicansforrape.org” apparently put up by liberals taking a little (or a lot) literary license.

This apparently stems from an Al Franken amendment to a bill about an employee of KBR or Halliburton who reported that she was drugged and raped in Iraq. The company said that the contract required here to arbitrate, rather than go to court for criminal charges. (First of all, I was not aware that contract law took precedence over criminal law.)

The genius of this little deal is that the liberals don’t give you all of the facts. (as usual)

During the vote on the amendment, 30 republicans voted against the amendment because of the overly broad nature of the text. There was concern that it wouldn’t be enforceable. The pentagon agreed. Keep in mind, Al Franken’s experience is in writing Hollywood porn, not legal amendments. (That’s pretty snarky, huh?)

In any case, they are absolutely reveling in their little charade.

One other little detail; the White House agrees with the republicans as to the overly broad nature of the amendment.

Barney Frank is raising his ugly head again. He is introducing legislation that would allow the government to take over failing banks, fire the management and put in who they wish.

The irony of this is that being required to make substandard loans as outlined in the Community Reinvestment Act, which made no sense, even when Carter passed it, has created the bad loan problems experienced by many of these banks.

John Podesta is now on record as saying that by legalizing and taxing pot, the dems could pay for health care. What a goof ball.

It appears to me that the hole in this little program is that, as usual, the libs don’t think these things through.

First of all, they keep thinking that the high price of pot will continue, once it is legalized. It won’t, except for the hefty tax that will be levied on legal sales. Since Pot is mainly a weed, it is cheap to grow. I would expect that indigenous pot growers, who would be licensed by the government would sell part of their production to legal outlets

and the rest to “tax free” outlets. The drug cartels would still be underselling the legal outlets because of the tax. How much tax, you ask? I don’t know, but I will bet that it will be a heck of a lot higher than 10%. Look at what Obama is doing to you if you have a good health care plan. He is going to tax you 40% of the value of that program, every year.

Notice how things that used to be bad are now OK if the government needs money and figures out a way to tax them? Look at the lottery, for instance. The government used to call it the “numbers racket”. The ironic thing is that when the states legalized their own lotteries, the payoff from the state was about half of what organized crime paid out, as a percentage of the total take.

Ya gotta love those yellow rats progressives yellow rats.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Quick quiz: What do these enterprises have in common? Farm and construction machinery, Tupperware, the railroads, Hershey sweets, Yum food brands and Yahoo? Answer: They’re all more profitable than the health insurance industry. In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making “immoral” and “obscene” returns while “the bodies pile up.”

Ledgers tell a different reality. Health insurance profit margins typically run about 6 percent, give or take a point or two. That’s anemic compared with other forms of insurance and a broad array of industries, even some beleaguered ones.

Profits barely exceeded 2 percent of revenues in the latest annual measure. This partly explains why the credit ratings of some of the largest insurers were downgraded to negative from stable heading into this year, as investors were warned of a stagnant if not shrinking market for private plans.

Insurers are an expedient target for leaders who want a government-run plan in the marketplace. Such a public option would force private insurers to trim profits and restrain premiums to compete, the argument goes. This would “keep insurance companies honest,” says President Barack Obama.

The debate is loaded with intimations that insurers are less than straight, when they are not flatly accused of malfeasance.

Ahh, the Saul Alinsky stock in trade. Demonize anyone at hand to promote your program. I find it hard to dredge up sympathy for insurers but the bald face and outright dishonesty of the administration for the past year makes me believe that something far worse lies in wait for us from the government.

BREITBART: Japan’s major nuclear reactor manufacturers have begun developing small nuclear power systems for both developed and emerging countries, a report said on Saturday. I want one.

More Bad News:

LONDON DAILY EXPRESS: LONG-term mobile phone users could face a higher risk of developing cancer in later life, according to a decade-long study.

The report, to be published later this year, has reportedly found that heavy mobile use is linked to brain tumours.

The survey of 12,800 people in 13 countries has been overseen by the World Health Organisation.

Preliminary results of the inquiry, which is looking at whether mobile phone exposure is linked to three types of brain tumour and a tumour of the salivary gland, have been sent to a scientific journal.

The findings are expected to put pressure on the British Government – which has insisted that mobile phones are safe – to issue stronger warnings to users.

As if we didn’t have enough trouble already, fighting off the toxic effects that the government health care plan will have on our health!

FOX NEWS: President Obama’s school age daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time, only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. The CDC also says a regular seasonal flu shot does not protect against the virus.

That certainly is a good excuse if that really is the case.

I think the population may be getting it:

PRINCETON, NJ — Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, Keep tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group.

“Changes among political independents appear to be the main reason the percentage of conservatives has increased nationally over the past year: the 35% of independents describing their views as conservative in 2009 is up from 29% in 2008.”

The ‘post-partisan’ president makes an enemies list

Rahm Emanuel once sent a dead fish to a live pollster. Now he’s put a horse’s head in Roger Ailes’s bed.

Not very subtle. And not very smart. Ailes doesn’t scare easily.

The White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is “opinion journalism masquerading as news.” Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox “not really a news station.” And Chief of Staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to “be led [by] and following Fox.”

Meaning? If Fox runs a story critical of the administration — from exposing “green jobs” czar Van Jones as a loony 9/11 “truther” to exhaustively examining the mathematical chicanery and hidden loopholes in proposed health-care legislation — the other news organizations should think twice before following the lead.

The signal to corporations is equally clear: You might have dealings with a federal behemoth that not only disburses more than $3 trillion every year but is extending its reach ever deeper into private industry — finance, autos, soon health care and energy. Think twice before you run an ad on Fox.

At first, there was little reaction from other media. Then on Thursday, the administration tried to make them complicit in an actual boycott of Fox. The Treasury Department made available Ken Feinberg, the executive pay czar, for interviews with the White House “pool” news organizations — except Fox. The other networks admirably refused, saying they would not interview Feinberg unless Fox was permitted to as well. The administration backed down.

This was an important defeat because there’s a principle at stake here. While government can and should debate and criticize opposition voices, the current White House goes beyond that. It wants to delegitimize any significant dissent. The objective is no secret. White House aides openly told Politico that they’re engaged in a deliberate campaign to marginalize and ostracize recalcitrants, from Fox to health insurers to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

There’s nothing illegal about such search-and-destroy tactics. Nor unconstitutional. But our politics are defined not just by limits of legality or constitutionality. We have norms, Madisonian norms.

Madison argued that the safety of a great republic, its defense against tyranny, requires the contest between factions or interests. His insight was to understand “the greater security afforded by a greater variety of parties.” They would help guarantee liberty by checking and balancing and restraining each other — and an otherwise imperious government.

Factions should compete, but they should also recognize the legitimacy of other factions and, indeed, their necessity for a vigorous self-regulating democracy. Seeking to deliberately undermine, delegitimize and destroy is not Madisonian. It is Nixonian.

But didn’t Teddy Roosevelt try to destroy the trusts? Of course, but what he took down was monopoly power that was extinguishing smaller independent competing interests. Fox News is no monopoly. It is a singular minority in a sea of liberal media. ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, NPR, CNN, MSNBC vs. Fox. The lineup is so unbalanced as to be comical — and that doesn’t even include the other commanding heights of the culture that are firmly, flagrantly liberal: Hollywood, the foundations, the universities, the elite newspapers.

Fox and its viewers (numbering more than those of CNN and MSNBC combined) need no defense. Defend Fox compared to whom? To CNN — which recently unleashed its fact-checkers on a “Saturday Night Live” skit mildly critical of President Obama, but did no checking of a grotesquely racist remark that CNN falsely attributed to Rush Limbaugh?

Defend Fox from whom? Fox’s flagship 6 o’clock evening news out of Washington (hosted by Bret Baier, formerly by Brit Hume) is, to my mind, the best hour of news on television. (Definitive evidence: My mother watches it even on the odd night when I’m not on.) Defend Fox from the likes of Anita Dunn? She’s been attacked for extolling Mao’s political philosophy in a speech at a high school graduation. But the critics miss the surpassing stupidity of her larger point: She was invoking Mao as support and authority for her impassioned plea for individuality and trusting one’s own choices. Mao as champion of individuality? Mao, the greatest imposer of mass uniformity in modern history, creator of a slave society of a near-billion worker bees wearing Mao suits and waving the Little Red Book? The White House communications director cannot be trusted to address high schoolers without uttering inanities. She and her cohorts are now to instruct the country on truth and objectivity?

 The letter below is written by a constitutional law attorney.  He confirms pretty much everything I have been saying about Obama and the Obama Health care bill. 

       Obama is driving the final stake into the heart of our country and we are standing around and watching. I guess we deserve everything that we are getting.  Life as you knew it is about to become a thing of the past, and in doing so, it is about to become a hell of a lot more difficult.

Retired attorney sends “Red Flag Warning to the American People”
THE TRUTH ABOUT THE HEALTH CARE BILLS

Open Letter to the General Public from:

After reading the entire health care bill I have some comments, not about the bill, but about the effects on our Constitution.  It’s a broader picture than just health care reform. It’s time we sit up and pay attention; once this sort of thing happens, it will be irreversible. We have reason to be very afraid of what is happening.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE HEALTH CARE BILLS
Well, I have done it!  I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200:  The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009.  I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law.  I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional.  What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected. To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying.  The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business and put everyone into a government run system.  All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats and most of them will not be health care professionals.  Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled. However, as scary as all of that it, it just scratches the surface. 


In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices.  Instead, it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to  the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated.  If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed. The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. 

The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people and the businesses they own. The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with.  I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

 

This legislation also provides for access by the appointees of the Obama administration of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital.  All of this is a direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures.  You can also forget about the right to privacy.  That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide. If you decide not to have healthcare insurance or if you have private insurance that is not deemed “acceptable” to the “Health Choices Administrator” appointed by Obama there will be a tax imposed on you.  It is called a “tax” instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th  Amendment.  However, that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the “due process of law. So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much out the original ten in the Bill of Rights that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn’t stop there though. 

 

The 9th Amendment that provides: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”  The 10th Amendment states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it  to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”  Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control. I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea.

 

This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights.  Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation” to support the Constitution.  If I was a member of  Congress, I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation.  If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable. For those who might doubt the nature of this threat I suggest they consult the source.

Observations:

Did you hear the speech by Obama yesterday regarding his boosting of small business?

This is a 180-degree turn around for Obama.

I am truly perplexed. I don’t know whether Obama is serious, that he has stepped out of his proletariat upbringing to embrace a philosophy that actually works, or if this is just more misdirection because he is coming under such heavy fire for not doing anything to help create jobs.

My cynicism says that this is just another scam to raise the poll numbers until he can get health care passed and move on to further damaging programs.

My observation has been that people that subscribe to this type of locked in political philosophy do not have the mental agility to look at all sides of an issue and will continue to follow that philosophy in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I also think that the latter is true given Obama’s widening rift with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has been working to marginalize the Chamber by going around it to meet with small groups of executives privately, excluding the Chamber. This is a first.

This strategy is also right out of the “Handbook for Radicals”. The Chamber presented a united front of big business to the administration. By going around the unifying factor (the Chamber) to the execs privately, he can set up a divisive atmosphere, cutting back door deals with some big business for support in order to get his programs through. He can also threaten the execs without fear of it becoming public, as the Chamber would have done.

The sad thing is that these execs are either so dumb, or so frightened of Obama that they appear to be caving in. They will learn the hard way that you can’t make a deal with the devil. Their dealings with Obama will come back and bite them big-time.

Obama may be getting a little desperate: The Telegraph U.K. reported yesterday that the decline in Barack Obama’s popularity since July has been the steepest of any president at the same stage of his first term for more than 50 years.

Finally, it appears that some of the people are catching on, but there are a hell of a lot of them that don’t have a clue yet. That is your job, with the help of this newsletter.

The yellow rats are pulling out the stops to push the public option for the health care plan. I warned you that this would happen when they all backed away from it and said that they could do without it.

Folks, this isn’t about health care, as I have been saying for nearly a year, it is about political ideology! That is why Obama is so insistent on the public option. It gives him huge control of the population. There are no second chances in this, folks! I was just thinking about Pelosi and Reid. I am really beginning to wonder if they have a clue as to what Obama is really up to. The two, both vicious infighters, do not appear to me to have the native intelligence to read between the lines. Of course, there are a lot of republicans of which the same can be said.

The only difference between Pelosi/ Reid and Pinocchio is the fact that their nose doesn’t grow when they tell a lie. All of the strings are still attached though. You just can’t see them.

The dems led a vote in the house to remove the 64 year old anti-trust exemption for insurance companies. As with the$247 Billion in payments to doctors for Medicare, this was a good thing done for all of the wrong reasons! It was a churlish attack on the insurance companies letting their Medicare policyholders just how bad the Obama cuts would be for them.

Speaking of the $247 Billion payment to Medicare doctors, that bill appears to be dead. Reid is whining that the AMA misled him on the number of republicans they could deliver. That is total BS. The payment was in return for the AMA’s support of the Obamacare bill. It was a bribe, pure and simple.

Well, republicans, together with a bunch of democrats voted to block the 10years of cuts to Medicare reimbursement of doctors. That put the $247Billion bill on the trailer.

Reid says now that he will be back with this after the health care bill passes.

Some bad news for us all. Newsday.com has just announced that it will start charging $260 per year for access to its content. I believe that this is the tip of the iceberg and all news gatherers will start charging for content within the next 6 months.

The cost is about the same as the annual cost to subscribe to the printed version.

These people in Washington are absolutely amazing. Part of the

program to help pay for this health care bill, besides cutting Medicare $460Billion and

raising taxes another $500 Billion, they plan on taxing all sorts of medical devices

including artificial heart valves, wheel chairs, stents, artificial knees and hips, and the

list goes on ad-infinitum. These guys are trying to tell us that they plan to

pay for this program by taxing the program.

Accost a young person:

With the new Obama poll showing that the population has significantly warmed to the public option, we are in trouble. Aside from a manipulated poll, the Obama group has gone back to their base; the young.

The League of American Voters has found that young people under 30 support Obamacare at a nearly 2-1 ratio over older folks. So, is this were the new support in the polls has come from?

However, the League has also found that the youth don’t have a clue as to what the health care bill will do to the different population segments. When they find out, they tend to swing the other way. The youth of this country are not stupid, well, except for the Jay All-stars, they are just uninformed.

Go out and find some young people to talk to about the negative aspects of the health program. Fill them in on the problems with the program and give them the web sites for contacting their congers folk. For starters, how do they feel about another $333 per month (single person) being withheld from their paycheck, in addition to all of the other items withheld. They should know that they don’t have a choice in this! And that is just for starters. Name one federal program that has come in at anywhere near the cost that they told us it would! Given the record of the Federal Government, $500 per month certainly is not beyond reason.

The real cost of the health plan to you.

•If you do not take the health insurance, the fine is $1,000 per year.

•If you do take the government health care, the estimate is that you will pay 8% of

your income in premiums according to the dems.

•If you have your own private insurance, your premiums will rise from $1700 per year

to $3,000 per year, (single and family of 4) according to best estimates now available.

•If you have an expensive and comprehensive health care program, you will pay a

40% tax on your health care program.

Free health care, huh? You like it so far?

Here’s the kicker. I happened to have a long conversation with an old contractor who came over from Germany about 25 years ago. This guy is a working man and he is really struggling with his liberal views.

He told me that today, Germany, which has had universal health care for decades, now creams 15% of a person’s gross income right off the top for their health care premium and another 10% off the top for unemployment insurance. He said that with income taxes, etal, he told me that you don’t have to make very much money to pay 50% of your income out in taxes. I don’t expect that Obama will let you write off your premium either. Oh, and he said that with Germany experiencing an 11% unemployment rate, the unemployment fund is broke.

I think that 15% of your income is a hell of a lot closer to the true cost to you than the 8% that the administration is telling you.

Secondly, for young healthy people, one does not have to have a doctorate to figure out that it is cheaper to pay the fine than pay for insurance. The bill requires that if you get sick, the insurance must cover you. So, what is the downside of not paying your insurance premium? Nothing, really. The upshot of that is that the rest of you poor suckers that are paying will see your premiums skyrocket to make up for those that are not paying the premium. You might just join them. Then the whole deal implodes!

More Bad News:

Sen. Jon Kyl, Arizona Republican and No. 2 Republican Senate leader, recently identified a key issue that is likely to complicate the administration’s plan: Russia for years has been violating the current Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which is set to expire Dec. 5.

Mr. Kyl said that Russia’s development of a new multiple-warhead RS-24 missile that was tested as recently as May 2007 violates the current treaty.

“That would be illegal for the Russians to deploy under START. So why are they testing it?” Mr. Kyl asked.

“In this case, it appears the Russians have cheated - if not in the letter of the START agreement, at least in its spirit - by converting one of their existing missiles to this new multiple-warhead variant,”

The argument of Mr. Kyl and others concerned with the administration’s rush to conclude a new treaty is over how a new agreement can be reached when there is evidence that the Russians failed to abide by the old one.

And this after Obama threw our allies under the bus with giving up the anti-missile program to appease the Russians.

More Democrat Chicanery:

POLITICO: The Senate must soon increase the national debt limit to above $13 trillion — and Democrats are looking for political cover.

Adding it to the defense bill would allow Democrats to argue that they voted for the measure to help troops in harm’s way — and downplay that their vote also expanded the limit for how much money the country can borrow.

The strategy has not yet been finalized, aides and senators said. The House already approved a debt limit increase of $925 billion — above the $12.1 trillion ceiling Congress approved as part of the economic stimulus package last February — but Democrats may seek to increase the limit further so they don’t have to revisit the politically treacherous issue until after the 2010 midterm elections.

The Treasury Department reported last week that the annual deficit for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30 stood at a record $1.4 trillion, with that number likely to balloon under Obama’s policies.

With the debt limit about to be eclipsed, Republicans are eager to force Democrats to find the votes to increase it among themselves, putting the majority party in a lose-lose situation and searching for a way to minimize public backlash.

“Regardless of the political treachery, I’m more worried about the economic treachery and the monetary aspects of it with devaluing the dollar,” said Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.).

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and the committee’s ranking member, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), both told POLITICO that appropriators may add the language to must-pass spending legislation.

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), whose committee is in charge of the debt increase, said “oh yeah, it’s a possibility” of adding the debt-ceiling increase to the spending legislation.

“I care less how it’s done so long as it is done,” Baucus said.

And Conrad said he wants any debt increase to be coupled with language that would create a “comprehensive” process to force Congress to begin making tough choices to cut the debt — something akin to legislation he and Gregg proposed that would establish a commission to study ways to cut the deficit, whose recommendations would be fast-tracked through Congress.

Thank the Lord that all democrats are not yellow rats.

Dems Circling the Wagons:

WASHINGTON POST: Sensing that victory in the race for Virginia governor is slipping away, Democrats at the national level are laying the groundwork to blame a loss in a key swing state on a weak candidate who ran a poor campaign that failed to fully embrace President Obama until days before the election.

Senior administration officials have expressed frustration with how Democrat R. Creigh Deeds has handled his campaign for governor, refusing early offers of strategic advice and failing to reach out to several key constituencies that helped Obama win Virginia in 2008, they say. Like the street gang known as ACORN?

The next thing is the Dems are going to change our motto from “E pluribus Unum” to “Government by Obama, for Obama”.

Democrat Math; This cracks me up:

This is so sad, but true…so many people didn’t “catch on” to this. You will laugh your butt off. Democratic Math If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 Off for an apparent “savings” of $1000.

However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto Dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% Tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500. So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an Extra $350 to the feds.

In addition, you Traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now You have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, That was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now Be making..

But wait, it gets even better: You also were ripped off by the dealer. For example, every dealer here in LA was selling The Ford Focus with all the goodies including A/C, auto transmission, Power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the “cash for Clunkers” program started. When “cash for clunkers” came along, they Stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the List price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 More than you would have the month before. (Honda, Toyota, and Kia played the same list price game That Ford and Chevy did).

So let’s do the final tally here: You traded in a car worth: $3500 You got a discount of: $4500 ——— Net so far +$1000 But you have to pay: $1350 in taxes on the $4500 ——– Net so far: -$350 And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for The month before ———- Net -$3350 We could also add in the additional taxes (sales Tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, Along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan but let’s just stop Here.

So who actually made out on the deal? The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 They “gave” you. The car dealers made an Extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks From the manufacturers and the loan Companies.

The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they Could not give away the month before. And the poor Stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot Afford.

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe Consumer that he was getting $4500 in “free” money from the “government” when in fact Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an Additional $3350 for the privilege. Thanx Rob

Observations:

Obama is on the prod again; campaigning his little heart out to try to raise money for the party’s off year elections. Interestingly enough, it is not coming in as easy as they thought it would.

Obama was trying to whip up excitement at a $30,000 per couple fundraiser yesterday.

Now folks, I am not a greedy man, and I believe that we have a certain responsibility to the less fortunate to teach them to fish. But if I could afford to go to a $30,000 a couple fundraiser, I don’t think it would be for a party that plans to confiscate a good share of my earnings and has made no bones about it. Would you?

I can understand the denizens from Hollywood throwing in on this deal because they are mentally, with some notable exceptions, the seven dwarfs of humankind. But business people? I don’t think so.

That only leaves two types of people. Those that feel that they will get an exemption from Obama for their income, because they think the fix is in and those who inherited their wealth and never worked a day in their lives…Well, John Kerry didn’t exactly inherit his wealth, he married it…twice.

In any case, these children could get a real rude awakening if Obama gets his way.

I think that it is time that a mechanism is created in the federal government to hold congress and administration criminally responsible for chicanery such as exhibited by the administration and its yellow rat minions in the lying and passing of bills that do the public material harm, with no statute of limitations.

Update on California gun bills:

Our resident law enforcement guy tells me that Arnold signed SB962, which puts severe restrictions on the purchase of ammunition in California but let SB585, which

was considered to be step towards outlawing gun shows on public property (They need the money) Thanx Dale

Trouble in Paradise:

Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) has locked the republicans out of House Oversight and Government Reform committee room so they can’t meet when the dems aren’t there. Sort of like the dem Senators locking out the republicans so they can’t see how the health care bill is being crafted. The dems don’t let good ideas go to waste.

In any case, this action by Towns appears to be in retaliation for the leading republican on the committee ridiculing him repeatedly over Towns refusal to launch an investigation into the Countrywide Mortgage sweetheart mortgage deals for VIP’s.

Apparently, Towns has been stonewalling republican requests to subpoena records in the case. (Ya think the fix is in?). Then last week, the republicans were going to force an open vote at a mark-up meeting. The dems found out and cancelled the meeting at the last minute. So far, the dems have given two conflicting excuses for cancelling the meeting at such a late date; neither one that they were trying to avoid a vote on the subpoena.

A GOP committee staffer captured video of the dems leaving their separate meeting in private chambers after the mark-up meeting was scheduled to begin. He then spliced it to video of the dems empty chairs in the committee room, set the whole thing to music (Hit the Road, Jack) and put it on the minority website.

Apparently Towns developed a pretty severe emotional rash from the ridicule, especially since the dems were caught in a lie on tape, and let the republicans know that he was not happy with video in the committee room, even though the rules allow videotaping. The dems readily acknowledged that they changed the locks on the committee room in retaliation for the videotape.

Oh, and by the way, the reason Towns has refused to issue a subpoena for the Countrywide records? He didn’t want to get into the way of a justice department investigation.

You don’t think it could have anything to do with the fact that Towns himself received a loan from Countrywide, do you?

Trouble in Paradise II:

THE RASMUSSEN REPORT: The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -13. That’s just a point above the lowest level ever recorded for this President. It’s also the sixth straight day in negative double digits, matching the longest such streak.

Just 31% of voters believe that Congress has a good understanding of the health care proposal.

The Rasmussen Report is generally considered by those in the know to be the most accurate and least partisan poll of the polls going, and while I still distrust polls, I distrust this one the least.

Quality hospital = much less risk of death

BOULDER, Colo. (UPI) — Patients at highly rated U.S. hospitals have a 52 percent lower chance of dying, an independent healthcare ratings organization says. The 12th annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study examined almost 40 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2006, 2007 and 2008. The 2010 ratings for individual hospitals are available at www.healthgrades.com, designed to help patients compare the quality of care at their local hospitals for 28 different procedures and treatments, from hip replacement to bypass surgery. The researchers said the nation’s 5,000 non-federal hospitals have a wide gap in quality between the best hospitals and all others. “The fact is, patients are twice as likely to die at low-rated hospitals as at highly rated hospitals for the same diagnoses and procedures,” Dr. Rick May, an author of the HealthGrades study, says in a statement. “With Washington focused on rewarding high-quality hospitals and empowering patients to make more informed healthcare choices, this information comes at a turning point in the healthcare debate.” The study says across all 17 procedures and diagnoses in which mortality was studied, there was an approximately 71.64 percent lower chance of dying in a five-star rated hospital compared to a one-star rated hospital. Across all 17 procedures and diagnoses studied, there was an approximately 51.53 percent lower chance of dying in a five-star rated hospital compared to the national average.

The Nancy Pelosi held forth yesterday that new estimates on the health bill would cut the deficit and only cost $900,000,000,000.00. Well, now I am getting excited! If Pelosi said it, you can take it to the bank…the food bank; because that is where you are going to end up if you listen to her.

“We’re in an excellent place with the cost, given the information that we have,” she said.

I am not even going to go into all of her machinations to justify this except to declare my Grandfathers old saying, “Figures lie and liars figure”. That pretty much says it all.

The program will cost a trillion to a trillion and a half dollars and they have to come from somewhere. Obama, Reid and Pelosi, as well as the rest of the yellow rats have exhibited a willingness to throw seniors under the bus, health wise, in order to get their money. If they are willing to do this to seniors, why would they be any less inclined to do the same to any other population segment?

Well, it’s the left that doesn’t shy from attacking the patriotism of those it dislikes. Recall the repulsive Moveon.org “General Betray-us” ad against Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus. Recent opposition to Chicago’s Olympic bid was cast as a sign of a lack of patriotism among Obama critics.

The MSNBC blast against the chamber appears to dovetail with what the Politico newspaper reports is a White House and Democratic effort “to marginalize” the business organization. That echoes the administration assault on the Fox News Channel: It says Fox isn’t a news organization.

The White House trying to dictate who’s a news organization. Democrats out to gut a business group. Obama media allies damning Americans as racist, unpatriotic and treasonous. Is this the America Obama promised when he campaigned to end the cynical and divisive politics of the past?

Just because the Sun Times is from Chicago and probably knows Obama better than we do (although I know him a lot better than I would like to) don’t you think they are being a little hard on him.

After all, the 4th grade class has only received its education from one textbook, that being Saul Alinsky’s “Handbook for Radicals”, although, I suppose some have insisted that they have learned from the communist manifesto, also. Those members of the class are considered “well read”.

But the “Handbook for Radicals” calls for the demonizing of anyone that disagrees with them. However, I have noted that the 4th grade class has forgotten one important warning from Alinsky. Alinsky noted that you must demonize a person

(A la Sarah Palin) for it to be really effective). Demonizing organizations isn’t near as effective and tends to lessen the impact of the next opponent’s demonization. Shame on them.

Another Payoff from the Dems:

Remember me telling you about the $247 Billion that the dems hurriedly put in a bill for immediate passage to up the payments of Medicare Dr’s so they wouldn’t quit taking Medicare? (A 2008 congressional study found that 30% of Medicare patients looking for a new doctor were having a difficult time finding one)

Well I got chummed. The $247 Billion is a payoff to doctors to support the health plan. I must be getting soft in the head to think the yellow rats would do something compassionate for their constituents.

Except, the AMA is a little cool now on supporting the health plan and reportedly is not backing off on their demand for tort reform. Not too good for the 4th grade class.

The 4th grade class has been confident that they have had the pharmaceutical companies and the hospitals in their back pockets due to back door deals that Obama made with them

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., introduced a bill right before the senate vote on the health care bill in which he proposed another $106 Billion hit on the drug industry to sweeten the drug benefits of Medicare.

However, he got crosswise with the above mentioned back door deal between the drug companies and Obama, which provided that the drug companies would cover $80 Billion of the health plan cost over 10 years in return for the dems fighting tax and fee increases on them for the next 10 years. (so I guess that means that the drug companies will do a future value of their drugs over a 10 year period and then average the price and start charging us tomorrow’s price today)

Oh, and one other slimy detail just came to light. The drug companies have agreed with Obama to spend $100 Million on an ad campaign to sell the health plan to us suckers.

Oh, and Bill Nelson’s bill? It was voted down.

The hospitals also got their pound of flesh. They received, from Max Baucus at the last minute, shielding from any more cuts to be recommended by an independent commission charged with recommending savings in Medicare. How sweet is that? The commission in charge of recommending savings in Medicare is now powerless to make recommendations to cut drug costs, hospital costs or doctor’s costs.

And yet, the Pelosi Posse is claiming that the new bill will have tighter oversight and be far less expensive than past bills! HOW DOES ONE ACCOMPLISH THAT GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE THREE LARGEST EXPENSES CAN’T BE CUT BECAUSE OF POLITICAL BACK DOOR DEALS?

As for the insurance companies that dared tell their policyholders what the effect of the Obamacare would have on their coverage? Well, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.,

showed up to support repeal of 60 year old anti-trust laws that protect insurance companies.

Obama is going to try to make an example of the insurance companies to warn everybody else that to oppose them will face the full force of the government to bring about their economic death.

Wait a minute, wasn’t that from Al Capone’s “Handbook for Thugs”?

Have you had the Swine Flu?

(CBS) If you’ve been diagnosed “probable” or “presumed” 2009 H1N1 or “swine flu” in recent months, you may be surprised to know this: odds are you didn’t have H1N1 flu. In fact, you probably didn’t have flu at all. That’s according to state-by-state test results obtained in a three-month-long CBS News investigation. The ramifications of this finding are important. According to the Center for Disease Control, CDC, and Britain’s National Health Service, once you have H1N1 flu, you’re immune from future outbreaks of the same virus. Those who think they’ve had H1N1 flu — but haven’t — might mistakenly presume they’re immune. As a result, they might skip taking a vaccine that could help them, and expose themselves to others with H1N1 flu under the mistaken belief they won’t catch it. Parents might not keep sick children home from school, mistakenly believing they’ve already had H1N1 flu. Why the uncertainty about who has and who hasn’t had H1N1 flu? In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases. The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there’s an epidemic? Some public health officials privately disagreed with the decision to stop testing and counting, telling CBS News that continued tracking of this new and possibly changing virus was important because H1N1 has a different epidemiology, affects younger people more than seasonal flu and has been shown to have a higher case fatality rate than other flu virus strains. CBS News learned that the decision to stop counting H1N1 flu cases was made so hastily that states weren’t given the opportunity to provide input. Instead, on July 24, the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists, CSTE, issued the following notice to state public health officials on behalf of the CDC: “Attached are the Q&As that will be posted on the CDC website tomorrow explaining why CDC is no longer reporting case counts for novel H1N1. CDC would have liked to have run these by you for input but unfortunately there was not enough time before these needed to be posted (emphasis added).” On Aug. 4, CBS News asked the CDC for e-mail communications to states and other documents regarding the guidance and its rationale. When CDC did not provide us with the documents, such as state-by-state numbers prior to halting testing and

tracking, we filed a Freedom of Information request with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). More than two months later, the request has not been fulfilled.

Another raging screw up by the government. Conspiracy theorists would say that Obama did this so that when we all got the regular flu, he could declare martial law because it was a swine flu epidemic and there are no data to contest that assertion.

I have a hard time believing that. … Still, given the overall morality of the administration…

Keep after congress folks. Your efforts are paying off. We can’t let up now!

Correction: Okay, so I said that I wasn’t sure whether it was Henry Leland who said the quote. It turns out that I got the quote wrong, too.

In 1953, Charles Wilson, GM’s president, became President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s secretary of defense.

Asked in his Senate confirmation hearings whether he would have a problem making governmental decisions that might not be in the interest of GM, he famously replied that he found it hard to imagine a conflict of interest “because for years I thought what was good for the country was good for General Motors and vice versa.” (Soon, that would be simplified to: “What’s good for General Motors is good for the country.”)

Observations:

Most of you have heard by now that the White House has declared war on Fox News. They are calling them everything but black. Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, two chief gunsels for Obama have now waded in after White House communications director got herself in hot water by going after Glen Beck.

I understand that Glen Beck, in retaliation to Dunn’s criticism, dug up a clip of Dunn giving a speech to students extolling the virtues of her favorite philosopher, Mao Tse-tung.

Apparently, the White House felt the impact of that one since it has been attempting to hide their communist leanings. That may be why the attack gunsels have been unleashed on Fox News.

There are few things that remain consistent in this world of change that we live in, but one of the remaining ones is the yellow rat democrat’s animosity towards the First Amendment. (See definition at end of this newsletter) The First Amendment provides us with the right to question other’s motives and actions and to do so under the law. This is antithetical to the creed of the yellow rat dems.

It has been illustrated several times by this administration. To name a couple, the threat by Obama to go after Humana with all of the governments resources when Humana sent a letter to Medicare policy holders describing what would happen to their benefits (cut by 50%) if the Health care passed and Medicare was gutted (that threat subsequently went out to all insurance companies ordering them not to speak badly of the health care plan to their policy holders or they would face the same fate) and the recent similar threat to one of the Big 4 accounting firms for publishing a report regarding the true effects and costs of the health care plan on the populace.

Recently, I noted that Obama has quietly backed off his threat to Humana and the insurance industry, probably under threat of a first amendment suit.

In any case, it is clear to me that these people consider the First Amendment a useless appendage of days gone by and will remedy that as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Disraeli rolls over in his grave:

I see where the Washington Post/ABC News released a new poll yesterday afternoon which, according to them, shows that the nation is now wondrously and overwhelmingly for the national health care plan.

What a change!!! It leaves me breathless.

Not from the news but from the stench from these to government run media companies. What a load of shovel ready stimulus!

Remember what the great British Statesman, Benjamin Disraeli, said: “There are lies; there are damn lies and there are statistics.” Statistics are the most insidious of lies as they masquerade as the truth but are easily manipulated to tell any story desired, as may be with the statistics in this poll.

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics:

Here is the lowdown on the above mentioned poll that I received this morning.. An article in our left wing rag bragged that the public health option has rebounded from summertime lows; especially with Independents and seniors. Sounds tragic, doesn’t it? Well it is.

What the poll shows is that the rebound is subject to certain conditions.

  1. It has to be administered by the states, not the feds.
  2. It is limited to those without access to affordable private insurance.

Currently the poll shows that 45% now favor the bill that is moving through the congress, while about 48% are opposed, about the same division as in August during the town hall meetings. (That certainly doesn’t sound to me that the public is appreciably warming)

It goes on to say that 70% of dems favor the bill and 90% republicans oppose it. Independents are divided, 52% against and 42% in favor of “the set of reforms“. (What does that mean? The bill including the above stipulations or the overall single payer system that Obama favors).

They now say that 57% of Americans now favor a public option, while 40% are opposed. (Again, what does that mean? Is that the public option with the restrictions in place, as noted above?)

According to the article, the poll was conducted by telephone, including cell phones, from Oct. 15-19, among 1004 adults. They give the sampling error a margin of 3%.

This is of which I have been speaking. Mental midgets will read the headline and say wow, the majority wants the public option so it must be good.

First, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the administration is behind the poll as it is being run by two government run media entities.

Secondly, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the poll is skewed due to it being a “Push Poll”. A push poll is a poll where the respondents are only given choices of answers that the poll givers can use to make a point. Longtime readers will remember a blistering letter( which I copied in a newsletter) I sent to the Republican National committee for sending me a push poll several months ago.

Thirdly, the poll was quite small, in terms of numbers, but more damning than that is the fact that they admitted specifically that they called cell phones.

I know of no general directory that lists cell phones of the public. That means that the poll called people that they knew, and given the political bent of the pollsters, I would be willing to bet that a significant majority of those called were liberals.

If that is the case, then that my friends, is FRAUD! However, you can bet that the pollster’s legal council made sure that they had weasel room to get out from under those charges. It is business as usual for the administration.

However, this is the type of thing that the public will be inundated with in the next few weeks. This is a call to arms folks. Start writing the congress again. This is critical!

Anita Dunn, Director of White House Communications

WORLD NET DAILY–TEL AVIV – President Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything

to the press unless it was “controlled,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.

“Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” said Dunn. “One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters,” said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama’s chief campaign manager.

“We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it,” Dunn said.

Continued Dunn: “Whether it was a David Plouffe video or an Obama speech, a huge part of our press strategy was focused on making the media cover what Obama was actually saying as opposed to why the campaign was saying it, what the tactic was. … Making the press cover what we were saying.”

Dunn was speaking at a Jan. 12, 2009, event focusing on Obama’s media tactics and hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, which seeks to promote collaboration between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic. The event was held in Santo Domingo and was attended by the country’s president.

Dunn has been facing some criticism since she led a White House campaign last week against Fox News, slamming the top-rated network as an “arm of the Republican Party” and “opinion journalism masquerading as news.”

Fox hit back this past Friday, releasing a video of Dunn speaking to high school students last June in which she lists her two “favorite political philosophers,” including Communist Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung, whose draconian policies are blamed for the deaths of tens of millions of people.

I find this admission just stunning! I cannot believe that the White House would let this be said. In effect, the administration is holding up the mass media and saying, “Look world, have you ever seen such abject stupidity in all of your born days?”

Is this the height of arrogance, or what?

I wonder if the mass media will be bright enough to catch on to this, either.

One looks at her picture above and who would think that she is a Chinese Commie fan? You just can’t judge a cookie by its raisins.

Update: Anita has now said that her reference to Mao as one of her favorite philosophers was meant to be an ironic statement referring to something Lee Atwater had said.

I listened to the clip. She said that her to favorite philosophers that she turns to are Mao Tse-tung and Mother Theresa, which she went on to

say, “may seem like an unlikely pair”. At no time did I hear Lee Atwater’s name mentioned.

And the Bad News just keeps Coming:

Your buddy and mine, Cass Sunstein, Regulatory Czar Extraordinaire and who just happens to be a little left of Lenin has just made his new move.

He has just ordered the National Institute of Health to do studies on the health effects of owning a gun. Now, tying in with the national health insurance, he can make owning a gun really onerous.

You already know that they will allow the government as well as insurers to overcharge you if you have what are, in their estimation, unhealthy habits. Well, once they have so-called research into these health effects that will show that owning a gun is really bad for our health, they will fine or tax the hell out of us. It will force many to give up their guns as they won’t be able to afford to keep them.

Can you Spell Rationing?:

SUN SENTINEL: PALM BEACH: Florida health officials are drawing up guidelines that recommend barring patients with incurable cancer, end-stage multiple sclerosis and other conditions from being admitted to hospitals if the state is overwhelmed by flu cases. The plan, which would guide Florida hospitals on how to ration scarce medical care during a severe flu outbreak, also calls for doctors to remove patients with poor prognoses from ventilators to treat those who have better chances of surviving. That decision would be made by the hospital.

We don’t need no steenking national health care bill to have rationing. Already, it appears that resources could be running short in the event of an emergency. Just wait until we add another 20 million people to the mix.

Obama goes after Wall Street:

Top administration gunsels went after Wall Street to criticize the size of their bonus programs.

This comes as no surprise as the standard tactic for the yellow rats, when they are in trouble, is to deflect attention away from themselves to others.

Longtime readers know that I am certainly no fan of Wall Street but this glaringly transparent (the only thing in the Administration that has been transparent so far) attempt to play their continuous liturgy of class warfare has no place today.

If Obama gave a damn about the populace, he might go after the big banks that are eviscerating the populace with skyrocketing interest rates on the credit cards under the guise of congress’ credit card reform.

Senior gunsel David Axelrod was quoted as saying, “The bonuses are offensive.” Well, as hard as this is for me to say, Mr. Axelrod, the bonuses are none of your business! This a still a free market society (at least until Obama orders martial law)

No one is off limits to Obama:

It appears that Obama is now going after the Congressional Budget office in general and the Senior analyst in particularly.

A column in the left wing Washington Post is written to leave you with the feeling that the CBO is just a bunch of estimators, putting them down with all of the other pundits.

What Obama fails to take into consideration is that the CBO is as about as non-partisan as you are going to find and secondly, historically, the CBO has always been low on their cost estimates of government programs.

Well, Hallelujah:

Still smarting from the P.R. whipping that the White House took from Glenn Beck last week in its short lived declared war on Fox News, the White House has reversed its long standing rule of not allowing anyone to go on, or talk to Fox News. (Could it be that Fox News asks pointed questions, rather than softballs?).

The administration has repeatedly refused invitations to appear on the network. Maybe they feel that they have someone that can answer the questions now, or maybe, they are just putting out a fire and it will be a cold day in hell when anyone from the administration appears.

Regardless of how this works out, one thing you can be assured of is that Obama will never appear. He has developed a real allergy to softball free environments.

Correction:

ST. PETERSBURG TIMES: More than $2.3 million in federal economic stimulus grants have gone to eight Tampa Bay area cosmetology and massage schools to pay tuition for the hairdressers, masseuses and nail technicians of tomorrow.

That’s swell news for those who see the beauty trades as a way to gain a firmer footing in the job market. But is there truly demand for more beauty school graduates at bay area salons?

Not really, said Monica Ponce, owner of Muse The Salon in Tampa.

“Instead of encouraging more people to go to beauty schools,” Ponce said, “they should probably help the stylists who are unemployed.”

Folks, when I am wrong, I will be the first to admit it! I was complaining the other day because the stimulus went to government agencies and not small business. Well, here is absolute proof that I was wrong! What else can I say?

Observations:

I probably owe you readers an apology for an excess in which I indulged last week when I referred to the Pelosi Posse, etal, as the yellow rat democrats, as opposed to the Blue Dogs.

I normally attempt to avoid the attaching of names to anyone. However, my small town Midwest upbringing got the best of me. I absolutely cannot tolerate people who use deceit, disingenuousness and outright lies, especially when it is business as usual for them. Blame my Mother.

The other thing that angers me so much is that the democrats look upon it as no big deal; that lying and cheating are an everyday thing. If they didn’t, they would be at the head of the line calling for the ouster of these people.

The democrats don’t have an exclusive on moral decay in this country. While I believe that many of the republicans are at least trying to live a life of integrity, there are a whole lot of them that, at best, give lip service to honesty.

I mourn the loss of our national integrity.

That said, I will probably keep calling them the yellow rat dems because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. I am speaking primarily of the so-called “progressive” democrats.

I grew up democrat and believe me, the democrats back then were people of honor and they were patriots. I believe that there are still many democrats out there that fit that description. However, the party is in the hands of the yellow rats.

It’s that Transparency thing again:

WASHINGTON POST: Three months before he was elected president, Barack Obama vowed not only to reform health care but also to pass the legislation in an unprecedented way.

“I’m going to have all the negotiations around a big table,” he said at an appearance in Chester, Va., repeating an assertion he made many times. He said the discussions would be “televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies.”

But now, as a Senate vote on health-care legislation nears, those negotiations are occurring in a setting that is anything but revolutionary in Washington: Three senators are working on the bill behind closed doors.

Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) sits at the head of a wooden table at his office as he and Sens. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) work to merge two competing versions of health-care legislation into one bill. The three men will be joined by top aides as well as by members of President Obama’s health-care team, led by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. The sessions started on Wednesday and could be completed this week.

You know something is rotten when the left wing Washington Post smells a rat. The deceit is getting so bad that even they are beginning to smell it.

The next underhanded trick by the yellow rats: “A senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told CNSNews.com that it is ‘likely’ that Reid will use H.R. 1586—a bill passed by the House in March to impose a 90-percent tax on bonuses paid to employees of certain bailed-out financial institutions—as a ’shell’ for enacting the final version of the Senate’s health care bill, which Reid is responsible for crafting.”

Canada catching up:

Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) — The Canadian dollar rallied for a third straight week, touching a 14-month high and moving closer to parity with its U.S. counterpart as signs of economic recovery pushed commodities and stocks higher.

Canada’s currency gained as crude oil, the nation’s largest export, surged 10 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average surpassed 10,000 for the first time in a year. The Bank of Canada will keep interest rates at a record low level when it meets on Oct. 20, according to all 23 economists in a Bloomberg News survey.

The Canadian currency, nicknamed the loonie for the aquatic bird on the C$1 coin, appreciated 0.5 percent to C$1.0370 per U.S. dollar yesterday in Toronto, from C$1.0422 on Oct. 9. One Canadian dollar buys 96.44 U.S. cents.

Employment in Canada rose last month six times more than forecast, unexpectedly reducing the jobless rate to 8.4 percent, the government said on Oct. 9.

Hey, Hussein! Call Canada and see what they are doing about unemployment! (I am told that it is no longer politically incorrect to call him Hussein as it once was, during his campaign)

Keep in mind that the 9.8% unemployment rate that the government bandies about is not the true unemployment rate, which is significantly higher, probably around 13-15%.

WASHINGTON (AP) - What is $1.42 trillion? It’s more than the total national debt for the first 200 years of the Republic, more than the entire economy of India, almost as much as Canada’s, and more than $4,700 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

It’s the federal budget deficit for 2009, more than three times the most red ink ever amassed in a single year.

And, some economists warn, unless the government makes hard decisions to cut spending or raise taxes, it could be the seeds of another economic crisis.

Treasury figures released Friday showed that the government spent $46.6 billion more in September than it took in, a month that normally records a surplus. That boosted the shortfall for the full fiscal year ending Sept. 30 to $1.42 trillion. The previous year’s deficit was $459 billion.

As a percentage of U.S. economic output, it’s the biggest deficit since World War II.

A New Ideology for Russia?

NEW YORK TIMES: MOSCOW — Nearly two decades after the collapse of the Communist Party, Russia’s rulers have hit upon a model for future success: the Communist Party.

Or at least, the one that reigns next door.

Like an envious underachiever, Vladimir V. Putin’s party, United Russia, is increasingly examining how it can emulate the Chinese Communist Party, especially its skill in shepherding China through the financial crisis relatively unbowed.

United Russia’s leaders even convened a special meeting this month with senior Chinese Communist Party officials to hear firsthand how they wield power.

In truth, the Russians express no desire to return to Communism as a far-reaching Marxist-Leninist ideology, whether the Soviet version or the much attenuated one in Beijing. What they admire, it seems, is the Chinese ability to use a one-

party system to keep tight control over the country while still driving significant economic growth.

It is a historical turnabout that resonates, given that the Chinese Communists were inspired by the Soviets, before the two sides had a lengthy rift.

Normally, I would suggest that we keep an eye on Hussein to make sure that he doesn’t start spending too much time with the Russians or Chinese.

However, upon reflection, I do not know if he is flexible enough to change horses in midstream. He is reading from the” Handbook for Radicals”, which he knows well and I don’t think that he would stray from that.

Trouble in Paradise…again:

WASHINGTON POST: Get in shape or pay a price.

That’s a message more Americans could hear if the health care reform bills passed by the Senate Finance and Health committees become law. By more than doubling the maximum rewards and penalties that companies can apply to employees who flunk medical evaluations, the bills could put workers under intense financial pressure to lose weight, stop smoking or even lower their cholesterol.

President Obama and members of Congress have declared that they are trying to create a system in which no one can be denied coverage or charged higher premiums based on their health status. The health insurance lobby has said it shares that goal. However, so-called wellness incentives could introduce a colossal loophole. In effect, they would permit insurers and employers to make coverage less affordable for people exhibiting risk factors for problems like diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

“Everybody said that we’re going to be ending discrimination based on preexisting conditions. But this is in effect discrimination again based on preexisting conditions,” said Ann Kempski of the Service Employees International Union.

As I pointed out in Sunday’s comments, the more these guys try to do, the more they screw up.

Is it time to ask how we like the hopey-changey thing? It appears that the administration will get you healthy if they have to kill you in the process. Good luck with this deal. And now the SEIU is questioning the buffoonery of the administration. Not good. Until Obama gets his private police force going, the SEIU is

his strong-arm division.

Now there’s a Halloween mask I can believe in.

(AP) SURPRISE, Ariz. — An Arizona sheriff known for cracking down on people who are in the country illegally launched a crime and immigration sweep in northwestern metro Phoenix on Friday, a half day after officials in Washington limited his powers to make federal immigration arrests.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose sweeps have led to allegations of racial profiling, said the rebuff from Washington won’t stop him. He said he can still arrest immigrants under a state smuggling law and a federal law that gives all local police agencies more limited power to detain suspected illegal immigrants.

“It doesn’t bother me, because we are going to do the same thing,” said Arpaio, whose deputies had arrested 16 people by Friday evening on unspecified charges. “I am the elected sheriff. I don’t take orders from the federal government.”

The sheriff’s sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix have drawn criticism that Arpaio’s deputies racially profile people. Arpaio said people pulled over in the sweeps were approached because deputies had probable cause to believe they had committed crimes and that it was only afterward that deputies found many of them were illegal immigrants.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Arpaio’s office over allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures.

“He is doing this to thumb his nose at the Obama administration,” said Lydia Guzman, president of the Hispanic civil rights group Somos America. Ya think?

Arpaio said volunteers will use cameras owned by his agency to video-record deputies so viewers can see for themselves that they weren’t doing anything wrong.

Dan Pochoda, legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing people who filed a lawsuit over the sweeps, said Arpaio still can’t pull over motorists solely because they are suspected of being illegal immigrants.

“He can’t do it under the terms he is claiming. He has indicated that he can stop people without the suspicion, based on what they look like, what they sound like,” Pochoda said. Pochoda is too dumb to realize that the Sheriff is toying with him, telling him one thing to get him fired up and then doing something else.

You have to give Sheriff Joe credit. Notwithstanding the fact that he can be insufferable sometimes, the guy isn’t easily intimidated and he is

driving the Phoenix mayor and Nappy and the administration absolutely nuts.

How many Sheriffs do you know that have been investigated by the state, the D.O.J., congress, the FBI and if that wasn’t enough, the United Nations. Nappy has pulled out all of the stops to get Sheriff Joe, but so far, she has come up empty.

That said, the left wing Arizona Republic today published an editorial stating that the law the Sheriff quoted to justify further sweeps is non-existent.

Assistant Director of Homeland Security, John Morton’s protestations to the contrary, notwithstanding, the federal law appears to be a little fuzzy as it appears to me that intent could enter into the equation.

However, not being an attorney, as well as being a witness to the fact that technicalities are the stuff of court rulings, not justice, I am probably not the best person to hold forth on this type of issue.

That said, the good Sheriff, like most people that achieve the notoriety that this sheriff has achieved, cannot read the writing on their own wall and usually are tripped up by their own foibles, primarily because they have made the fatal mistake of believing their own P.R.

Chicago is second to whom?

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Suspected drug traffickers shot down a police helicopter and set fire to five buses and a school in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, killing two policemen, police and media said.

It is one of the worst recent outbreaks of violence in Rio and comes two weeks after the city was awarded the 2016 Olympic Games, despite worries over its high levels of violence and poor security.

Apparently, the Olympic committee felt that Rio, despite its problems, was probably safer than Chicago was.

Obama may find himself cornered:

THE TIMES, U.K.–IN Afghanistan they would call it a shura, the traditional tribal way of listening to elders’ views before reaching a consensus. In Washington, where President Barack Obama has now held five war councils, they are starting to call it dithering.

Latest polls show a majority of Americans now disapprove of Obama’s handling of a war which may come to define his presidency. Many senior members of his party are in open revolt.

The biggest tussle is between McChrystal and Vice-President Joe Biden, who argues against escalation…

Although Biden prides himself on his foreign policy experience, a key factor in his selection, critics point out that his judgments have proved questionable in the past.

“When was the last time Biden was right about anything?” asked Thomas Ricks, a military writer affiliated with the Center for a New American Security, a think tank founded by Democrats.

That last comment cracks me up. I made similar observations about Biden about six months ago. That said, he is hard not to like.

More importantly, it appears that Obama may find himself cornered here. I have discussed in the past his dislike for putting himself on the line for anything specific that could come back and bite him. He usually makes a decision and then pushes someone else out in front of him that he can throw under the bus if things don’t work out. Given the amount of time and analysis that has gone into rethinking his own strategy, he could very well own this decision, for better or worse.

Iranians push Back:

WASHINGTON POST: TEHRAN, Iran – A suicide bomber killed five senior commanders of the powerful Revolutionary Guard and at least 37 others Sunday near the Pakistani border in the heartland of a potentially escalating Sunni insurgency.

The attack - which also left dozens wounded - was the most high-profile strike against security forces in an outlaw region of armed tribal groups, drug smugglers and Sunni rebels known as Jundallah, or Soldiers of God.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promised sharp retaliation. But a sweeping offensive by authorities is unlikely.

You can bet that Obama is keeping a close eye on this. Autocratic leaders, actual or wannabes have to be concerned with this type of thing.

WASHINGTON POST: Three forces threaten Democrats in the 2010 elections: populist anger on the right, disaffection in the middle and potential disillusionment on the left.
