November 30, 2009 Breaking News
30. November 2009 by Glenn.
Today’s attachment is a must read. It is a treatise from a progressive web site on the fiscal issues of the health care bill. This is written by one of their own! The information reported here is breathtaking. If you have been wondering whether my warnings over the past year were accurate, read this.
http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=450021&subsecid=900211&contentid=255221
Quote of the Day:
“When it comes to women, you are a true democrat”
Rick (Humphrey Bogart) to Police Prefect, Captain Louis Renaud, in the movie Casablanca
Observations:
As you know doubt have heard, Tiger Woods has woman trouble. Even the first athlete to win $1Billion can’t escape it. Maybe Obama will get the Woods back together over a beer at the White House.
On Tuesday, November 24th, after it was reported that tens of thousands of documents containing sensitive information regarding the California A.G.’s investigation of ACORN had been discovered dumped in a trash bin behind the ACORN San Diego office, Attorney General Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown went on to a talk show.
Instead of being indignant because of the document dump on an investigation that he had just announced several days before, he instead launched into a rambling, somewhat incoherent political answer to a question of law.
He spent a good deal of time defending ACORN’s right to privacy, regardless of whether it looked like they were obstructing justice by dumping all of these documents. Does not sound like an AG on a crusade.
ACORN knows that you can’t produce documents that you don’t have. Do you suppose the fix is in? Given that Obama needs the proletariat of the ACORN organization, it could very well be.
Also, Moonbeam has announced that he will be a candidate for governor of California again. He will rely heavily on the administration for support in this activity so he has already signed on. No way he wants to be left behind when the revolution comes.
America, once the technological leader of the world, reportedly has fallen to #40 now. Some say the reason is that we don’t have a national innovation policy.
Speaking of technology, Al Gore is back on his bandwagon. The Financial Times just reported that he is back to hand wringing and wailing about business concentrating on short term results instead of long term results.
He goes on with a convoluted argument with some, but not much relevancy.
Apparently, Mr. Gore is not getting the investment that he needs to make more millions in his global warming companies (green technology) and takes business to task for their shortsightedness.
I think he just wants to whine. Well, that and troll for any remaining liberal trust fund babies that might throw money at him because they have heard of him.
The Latest on the climate issue regarding the leaked emails intimating that the research was spiked, is that the head of the division for the U.N. says that there is no way that a few scientists could corrupt their process. (Just like there is no way that the former president of the U.N.’s son could rip off the U.N.)
Coming to light at the same time is the discovery that all of the raw temperature data from the 80’s, on which all global warming models are based, has been dumped by the University of East Anglia, where it was kept.
This was just discovered when several scientists, utilizing the Freedom of Information act, tried to get the data so that they could check the work on how the raw temps were manipulated to take into consideration the differences in how the raw temps were gathered.
The excuse is that the info was dumped to save space. (The info was kept on computer tapes).
So we are right back where we started. Now no one can check to see if the science was spiked or even if there were errors made. It is especially aggravating
because we the people are going to be forced to spend Trillions of dollars on something that for all we know, could be voodoo.
What a hell of a way to run a railroad.
I wonder how bad American banks will be hurt from what appears to be an $80 Billion default by Dubai on its loans. Several British banks reportedly have a collective exposure of around £14 Billion which might make things a little rocky for one or more of them. I sure hope that none of our “too big to fail” banks are heavily invested in Dubai.
Iran has announced that they may back out of the nuclear agreement which would then not allow the IAEA to inspect their facilities.
So what’s the difference? The IEAE just found out about another facility that they didn’t know existed. I don’t know if the fact that we didn’t discover it was due to their cleverness or the fact that the outgoing head of the IEAE is a muslim. He recently announced that the U.N. investigation of the Iranian nuclear program had hit a dead end.
Obama did a nice job of allowing Iran to have time to comply with the international orders for disclosure.
It is a good bet that the reason that they are threatening to pull out of the agreement is either a negotiating point, which will further delay an inspection, or, if that doesn’t work, an actual pull out to give them time to put the finishing touches on their nuclear weaponry.
As I have said before, Iran probably won’t attack Israel. They will give a nuclear weapon to HAMAS or Hezbollah to deliver.
Russia may be reaping the reward of supporting muslim terrorists when it suited their purposes. The new train wreck, together with other muslim attacks over the past 8 years places them in a contradictory position of supporting some muslim operations and fighting others.
One wonders if mainstream Islam doesn’t start controlling the extremist factions on their own, whether muslims in general might not become world- wide pariahs. Well, except in the U.S. It is not looking good as 95% of muslims won’t condemn acts of terrorism in the guise of jihad.
Honduras held its election yesterday and it appears that it will remain a democracy, no thanks to the Obama administration.
The foreign policy bungles of the 4th grade class are becoming the thing of legends. I have to wonder if any country in their right mind would trust our country to back them up.
In all fairness, the arrogance of the state department has done nothing to enhance our standing in the world since World War II.
We ran from Cuba, Viet Nam, Iran, and a host of other small conflicts that left our supporters to face a blood bath.
While we change out presidents and congress, I think that there should be a common thread of basics that we pursue in our foreign policy, regardless of who is in power.
Obama goes to bat for his old buddies:
NEW YORK TIMES: Washington — The Justice Department has concluded that the Obama administration can lawfully pay the community group Acorn for services provided under contracts signed before Congress banned the government from providing money to the group.
The department’s conclusion, laid out in a recently disclosed five-page memorandum from David Barron, the acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel, adds a new wrinkle to a sharp political debate over the antipoverty group’s activities and recent efforts to distance the government from it.
Even though congress has banned ACORN, it means nothing when one is talking about partners in crime (literally, I suspect).
Who knew 4th Grade Class was Contageous:
NEWSMAX: By Ronald Kessler–The fact that party crashers were allowed into a White House State Dinner without being on the guest list is emblematic of the Secret Service’s corner cutting detailed in my book, “In the President’s Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect.”
It’s clear from the Secret Service’s comment that the agency not only ignored the fact that the couple was not on the guest list but also did not do the usual background check to ensure that they were not possible threats. (There probably were not many of the invited guests that could pass a background check so the checks might have been eliminated. Pretty snarky, huh?) The party crashers could have had outstanding arrest warrants for murder. They could have been involved with terrorists. They could have been agents of Iran or North Korea. The Secret Service would never have known.
While the couple did pass through a magnetometer to detect weapons, they could have assassinated the president or vice president using other means—anthrax, for example. The additional security checks referred to by the Secret Service spokesman screen for such items as radiological contamination but would not detect secreted biological weapons.
The fact that the couple was allowed in in this dangerous age is a disgrace and is symptomatic of lax standards at the Secret Service ever since it was absorbed by the Department of Homeland Security in 2003. Because of lack of adequate funding, a management culture that considers itself invincible, and spinelessness when it comes to standing up to demands by those under protection, including the White House itself, the Secret Service now takes chances that would have been unthinkable prior to its absorption into Homeland Security.
How about that? Our old friend Janet Napolitano pops up again! She wasn’t satisfied with putting Arizona at risk. Now she gets to put everyone at risk. (Although her sloppy management might have a certain amount of appeal to some, in this case)
Australia leads the world in revolt against Al Gore:
TELEGRAPH U.K.–Australia is leading the revolt against Al Gore’s great big AGW conspiracy – just as the Aussie geologist and AGW skeptic Professor Ian Plimer predicted it would.
ABC news reports that five frontbenchers from Australia’s opposition Liberal party have resigned their portfolios rather than follow their leader Malcolm Turnbull in voting with Kevin Rudd’s Government on a new Emissions Trading Scheme.
The Liberal Party is in turmoil with the resignations of five frontbenchers from their portfolios this afternoon in protest against the emissions trading scheme.
The ETS is Australia’s version of America’s proposed Cap and Trade and the EU’s various carbon reduction schemes: a way of taxing business on its CO2 output. As Professor Plimer pointed out when interviewed this summer, this threatens to cause enormous economic damage in Australia’s industrial and mining heartlands, not least because both are massively dependent on Australia’s vast reserves of coal. It is correspondingly extremely unpopular with Aussie’s outside the pinko, libtard metropolitan fleshpots.
Though the ETS squeaked narrowly through Australia’s House of Representatives, its Senate is proving more robust – thanks not least to the widespread disgust by the many Senators who have read Professor Plimer’s book Heaven And Earth at the dishonesty and corruption of the AGW industry. If the Senate keeps rejecting the scheme, then the Australian government will be forced to dissolve.
For the rapidly increasing number of us who believe that AGW is little more than a scheme by bullying eco-fascists to deprive us of our liberty, by big government to spread its controlling tentacles into every aspect our lives, and scheming industrialists such as Al Gore to enrich themselves through carbon trading, this principled act by Australia’s Carbon Five is fantastic news.
I couldn’t have said it better.
Tehran takes a leaf from Obama:
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Islamic religious authorities have begun tightening their grip on Iranian public schools, a report said Wednesday, as hard-liners expand an ideological “soft war” against Western influence.
The effort appears to be part of a wider drive to counter opposition groups and other pro-reform factions that have been emboldened by the unprecedented protests after June’s disputed presidential election.
Word has it that Obama has offered them the adulation songs taught to 1st and 2nd graders here in this country, promoting Obama as their savior. Mmm mmm mmm.

Definition for new readers: Yellow rat democrats, as opposed to Blue Dog Democrats, or just Democrats, are so named because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. November 28, 2009 Breaking News
28. November 2009 by Glenn.
Quote of the Day:
“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.” — Eric Hoffer Thanx Rina
Observations:
It appears that the president was able to jawbone the Chinese into a 40% drop in carbon emissions when he was in China. While I believe in giving credit where credit is due, Mr. Obama has time and again left egg on my face when it was found that some accomplishment of his turned into a back door deal that was contrary to the welfare of America. I suspect that this is no different.
Unfortunately for all of us, the 40% cut is not going to mean much since China is expected to account for 50% of the growth in global emissions in the next 20 years, making its output 60% higher than the U.S. output by 2020.
The thing that irritates me is that Obama will use this to trumpet his success in these matters and help push his cap and tax bill through. Those who rely on the lame stream media won’t know that this is not what it seems.
What good is clean air? Since most of us could be living outside in all that clean air, it might make it nicer for us.
The cap and trade bill will significantly raise the cost of virtually everything that you buy. Obama has admitted the bill will “skyrocket” the
cost of energy. That’s spelled Heating, Cooling and gas to get to work, assuming you have a job.
I thought you folks would like to know how some of your stimulus dollars are being spent.
The University of Arizona is spending $144,000 of stimulus money to study Hiaki, an endangered tribal language spoken by fewer than 80 aging people.
Arizona State University, however, is spending $500,000 in jobs stimulus money to study genetic differences between queen and worker ants.
While all kinds of government agencies on all levels are cutting benefits and jobs, the federal Administration for Children and Families is using economic stimulus funds to grant 1.8% pay raises to their employees. (In Phoenix, that amounts to about $400,000.00 for the city’s Head Start staff and $203,000.00 of Chicanos Por La Causa, nicely described as a community development non- profit.
Luis Rosero, of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services told the AP that the raises were appropriate because “if I give you a raise, it is going to save a portion of your job.” HUH?
The City of Peoria is scheduled to get $1.7 Million to temporarily convert its baseball stadium’s watering system from treated water to untreated water.
In other academic news, ASU received $168,000.00 to study how friends of a schoolchild influence that child’s academic performance or whether the child turns to drugs. (Depends on whether one of the friends is a pusher)
In other economic stimulus news:
Perkins, Oklahoma received $1.5 Million grant for its wastewater treatment plant that came with such onerous requirements that it forced the city to raise its utility rates by a whopping 60%!
For those readers who live outside of Arizona, you should not fret. You can bet your bottom dollar that similar abuses of your tax money are going on at a University or town near you. Come to think about it, Obama has already bet your bottom dollar, so forget the bet. You can’t cover the bet.
Oh, one other thing. The dems are working on a new Multi-Billion dollar jobs stimulus bill! Now given that the first stimulus bill was nothing more than democratic pork, how excited am I about the new one? I am damn excited! Folks, we are swiftly approaching the time that we will no longer be able to service our debt. And if that happens, the administration and their congressional gunsels will have no compunction about taxing you whatever it takes to further their program.
I would venture to say that all but the most destitute among us are already paying 50% of our income in taxes, including the hidden taxes resulting in higher prices. There are already hidden federal and state taxes on gasoline and heating oil. Then, take you phone bill, for example. 25% tax.
Real estate taxes, income taxes, fuel taxes, payroll taxes, taxes on equipment and supplies necessary to provide the service or product, plus a host of other taxes,
especially if you live in a coastal state, add to the price of all goods and services that you purchase. Then, of course, there are sales taxes, which in most states add 7 to 10% to the price of an item. Put them all together and you are paying an additional 30% in taxes on goods and services that you purchase.
Then you, of course, are paying real estate taxes on your home (or your apartment) payroll taxes, income taxes and the list goes on. How much more can you afford to give? Because you will give more. You can take that to the bank!
Democrats have out raised republicans $3 to $1 for the upcoming campaign.
Folks, you only have one chance. That is to vote the democratic gunsels who are either too stupid to understand the damage that they are doing to this country or too crooked or spineless to care, out of office. The only way to control Obama’s ongoing train wreck is to take his majority in congress away!
I know! The republicans aren’t much better, but at least they aren’t trying to wreck the economy. We can get rid of the old guard republicans in 2012 and at the same time give the new republicans that we voted in during the 2010 election a strong dose of religion.
It is all up to you! And you can’t do it by yourself. You have to enlist other people in this massive effort. If you want your kids to live in a country that is even a shadow of the country that you grew up in, you had better get active.
So far, folks, we have been a great disappointment to our parents!
The dems are urging everyone to see Nicholas Cage’s new movie. They figure that he is one of them since he owes $6,000,000.00 in unpaid taxes.
Our left wing rag has finally written an editorial regarding Obama’s spending train wreck. They wouldn’t publish my letter, which I included in an earlier newsletter, but have now written an editorial saying the same basic things. They even quoted some of the same sources that I did, including the New York Times.
Being the true liberals that they are, they can’t help defending the give-aways but have now expressed concern for the stimulus money that was given away in non-existent congressional districts. From what I have been able to learn, it appears that the administration may be telling the truth when it says that the recipients of the stimulus largesse are responsible for filing faulty reports with wrong congressional districts written in. This is a non-starter for me.
What is a starter for me is that the New York Times, the journalistic equivalent of the queen in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, is starting to sound the alarm.
When the New York Times starts sounding dire warnings about liberal give- away programs and spending, you had damn well better listen because it will almost be too late before they can get around to forcing themselves to print such heresy.
Now they, and our local rag, are beginning to get excited about something that I have been crying the alarm about for the past 9 months.
I will reiterate the points that the editorial made because I think they are so important:
● Taxpayers could be on the hook for an additional $500,000,000,000.00 per year in annual interest payments on the debt, by 2019.
● According to the New York Times, that would exceed what the nation has spent in 2009 on education, energy, homeland security, and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, combined!
● Some economists think the $500,000,000,000.00 in interest on our debt is a low ball figure.
● Obama spent a good share of his time during his Asian trip trying to convince the Chinese and Japanese that our economy was sound. (They aren’t buying it)
● The article even questions the wisdom of bringing this huge spending debacle in the form of health care for middle-aged Americans right when the health care requirements for aged Americans will peak. (Of course, if Obama were truly following the Cloward-Piven strategy that I included in a previous newsletter, this would fit right in with his plans.)
● The editorial goes on to say that the country, given the staggering costs of the financial meltdown, is facing Tens of Trillions of dollars in the coming decades. The editorial goes on to say (No Kidding): “Did we mention the Obama administration projects budgets running trillion-dollar deficits for the next ten years? We’re piling it on.” (They’re piling it on? Stating simple facts, and not all of them at that, is piling it on? How proud of themselves they must be). And as I pointed out in a previous newsletter and in a letter to these guys, the health care bill will in reality cost at least Two Trillion dollars over 10 years of operations, not the One Trillion that the congress is telling you.
● The editorial then goes on: “Yes, supporters of health care reform contend targeted taxes will account for much of the added cost.” (They just started contending that because it became painfully apparent that the country wasn’t buying their deficit neutral, free health care for all mantra; and anyway, what the hell does that mean? Targeted taxes? It means, If you are American, you are the target and they are going to tax you!
The editorial goes on: “But that only means the tax burden will be that much heavier on many (see above) Americans when it finally comes time to pay the debt piper. The result could be higher taxes for everyone.”
“The head knocking part of the debt scenario is that it gets worse as the economy improves.” (if it improves) “As the money loosens, interest rates will rise and the cost or Treasury Bills to the government gets higher. Just a 1 percent hike will cost taxpayers an additional $80,000,000,000.00 this year alone.” (But you already knew that was going to happen from past newsletters)
The editors finish up explaining that the administration indicates it will focus on stabilizing finances in the coming year, likely at the expense of other high dollar reform projects.
Call me cynical, but I have watching this guy pretty closely for the past 10 months and what it tells me is that there is a very good chance that the administration will pay lip service to stabilizing finances.
If, and the size of that if keeps getting smaller in my mind as time goes on, Obama actually does try to save the country, I will be the first to stand up and sing his praises. (Of course, that possibility then begs the question of how someone that stupid ever got elected president in the first place) More likely, we will have more of the same wasteful pork spending bills which will satisfy some of us that he is trying; all the while further weakening the country.
I think it was Alinsky (don’t quote me on that) that once said that the strongest weapon for change that the radicals had was the disbelief of the general public. If he said that, he certainly was correct!
Remember one thing folks. Without your efforts, these could be remembered as the good old days!
Keep vigilant,
Glenn

November 25, 2009 Breaking News

Reader Feedback:
I pretty much ride on the center of the road, so I feel I can complain about anyone I want to and Sara Palin is one of them. Did you see the big deal Fox News made the other day about her book signing in Michigan and how there was such a crowd outside cheering for her and so many people that were so in favor of her. Turns out it was all BS, Fox News came out and apologized because it was a phony clip. They had dubbed in tape from 2008 presidential campaign to make it look more impressive.
If you read over that article I sent the other day about Palin’s book and how she glosses over issues really makes me wonder. The Mayor of Minneapolis and how many other mayors have more experience then she does, besides more people then the whole state of Alaska. Of coarse they can’t see Russia from some remote island.
I think Sara Palin fits in right along with Michele Bauchman and Nancy Pelosie. They are all full of S***.
Thats my opinion. (Thanx Rob)
As I have said before, I think the jury is still out on Palin. I really don’t know enough about her to form a firm opinion, yet.
I am including the information that you sent me plus a fact check on Obama and if the ISP will allow it, a copy of a blog from an Alaskan.
Our readers need to know.
Observations: As the grime rate increases at the white house, the president welcomed the prime minister of India in a gala celebration with about 350 of his closest co-conspirators.
Word has it that one of the gifts that the prime minister bestowed on the president and first lady was one year of free tech support;…at least according to Jay Leno.
For those of you who have recently received a letter from CVS- Caremark, you might want to read this article and then contact your congressperson. This is pretty much an outrage. http://www.kens5.com/news/Mega-health-care-Merger-puts-patients-at-risk–72540087.html (Copy and paste to your browser.) Thanx, David
George Will had a little ditty on the “Green Doctrine” and how it fuels our “out of oil” myth.
After oil was discovered in Pennsylvania about 150 years ago, it was used primarily for lighting and lubrication; then in 1901 Spindletop was discovered, which gushed more oil than all other current wells put together.
Since then, we have exhausted our oil supply; repeatedly.
In 1914, the Bureau of Mines said our supply would be exhausted by 1924.
In 1939, the Interior Dept. said the world had 13 years of petroleum reserves.
In 1951, the Interior Dept. said the world had 13 years of petroleum reserves.
In 1970, the world’s proven reserves were an estimated 612 Billion barrels.
By 2006, more than 767 Billion barrels had been pumped and proven reserves were 1.2 trillion barrels.
The current estimates are that we will see energy demand rise by 30-50% within the next20 years and there are no near term alternatives to fossil fuels.
Today, wind and solar power combined are just one-sixth of one percent of current U.S. energy consumption.
All of a sudden, everyone is climbing back on the nuclear bandwagon, having been thrown off by the democrats years ago. But Oliver Morton, a science writer says that if nuclear is to supply even just 10% of the necessary carbon free energy, the world must build more than 50 large nuclear plants a year. Currently, five are being built.
An energy official with Carter’s state department said that the world’s deep-water oil and gas reserves are significantly larger than thought, even a decade ago.
The costs of developing Canadian oil sands (Canada may have more oil than Saudi Arabia) are declining so that projects that last year were not economic with the price of oil under $90 a barrel are now viable with oil at $79 a barrel.
New technologies are speeding the development of gas deposits in shale rock. The Marcellus Shale, which stretches from West Virginia through Pennsylvania and into New York, “may contain as much natural gas as the North Field in Qatar, the largest field ever discovered”.
U.S. Oil reserves of natural gas now exceed 100 years of supply at current rates of consumption. British Petroleum just announced a “giant” oil discovery beneath the Gulf of Mexico.
“Such good news horrifies people who relish scarcity because it requires – or so they say – government to ration what is scarce and to generally boss people to mend their behavior: This is the police! Put down that incandescent light bulb and step away from the lamp!”
“Today there is a name for the political doctrine that rejoices in scarcity of everything except government: The name is ‘environmentalism’.”
This article does not even take into consideration the Colorado shale oil reserves, which are huge, that will become economically feasible as technology is developed. It also does not take into the consideration that huge oil discovery in the western Dakotas and eastern Montana. Estimates of the reserves there eclipse that of Saudi Arabia oil reserves.
So what is the big rush? We are cleaning up our act at a record rate. The Hemlock Society, who publishes the best ways to commit suicide, has removed carbon monoxide poisoning from automobile exhaust as a way to commit suicide. They say that the worst that will happen is you will make yourself sick.
Wind and solar will never be more than supplemental energy sources for a good share of the globe. It will take decades to build the needed nuclear plants, the only dependable and clean source of energy currently available to our world.
And we are not even getting into coal gasification. The Nazi’s were producing gasoline from coal during the Second World War. If the coal companies would get after it, I think that they could figure out a way to do that and provide an abundant supply of clean burning gas made from coal.
And of course, we now have the leaked emails on global warming regarding the spiking of the climate science to show global warming. More on that in a future newsletter.
Well, Obama is telegraphing our strategy for Afghanistan by telling them that it is only a matter of time until we pull out.
Now the Taliban have no reason to negotiate seriously. They will just sit back and wait until we leave.
Obama will declare that is strategy is a raging success and we are not needed any more and the Taliban will then come back in and take over. The troop surge, in the first place, is to disabuse the Taliban of the fact that we might pull out.
Did we not learn anything from Viet Nam?
Democrats push $150B stock tax on Wall Street:
THE HILL: A House bill still being drafted aims to raise $150 billion each year to pay for new jobs.
Under a bill being drafted by Democratic Reps. Peter DeFazio (Ore.) and Ed Perlmutter (Colo.), the sale and purchase of financial instruments such as stocks, options, derivatives and futures would face a 0.25 percent tax. The bill, a copy of which was obtained by The Hill, is titled the “Let Wall Street Pay for the Restoration of Main Street Act of 2009.”
Half of the $150 billion in tax revenue would go toward reducing the deficit, while the other half would be deposited in a “Job Creation Reserve” to support new jobs. The job fund would be available to offset the additional costs of the 2009 highway bill and other legislation that creates jobs…
While I am no fan of Wall Street, I think that this will have a detrimental effect on many middle-income folks that have stocks in their retirement account.
That said, and I have said this before, Wall Street has caused the second major dislocation in our economy, the first being TRA 86, which pulled the rug out from under real estate investment (which admittedly was benefitting from overly generous tax treatment and draining $1 Billion a day of equity investment from Wall Street). The tax rules were clearly an abuse but Wall Street, I believe, made the bill so onerous, including making it retroactive 9 months to the beginning of the year with the intent of teaching investors to stay away from real estate, that the shock shut down the real estate market immediately, causing the recession of 1990. If you don’t believe that, think about congress giving the banks nearly two years to come up with other ways to rip off its credit card holders before instituting rules to curb some of the current abuses.
The president sets his own record:
FOX NEWS: President Obama has shattered the budget record for first-year presidents — spending nearly double what his predecessor did when he came into office and far exceeding the first-year tabs for any other U.S. president in history.
In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion — $2.8 trillion in 2000 dollars, which sets a benchmark for comparison. That fiscal year covered the last three-and-a-half months of George W. Bush’s term and the first eight-and-a-half months of Obama’s.
That price tag came with a $1.4 trillion deficit, nearly $1 trillion more than last year. The overall budget was about a half-trillion more than Bush’s for 2008, his final full fiscal year in office.
Obama’s approval falls below 40% among whites:
PRINCETON, NJ — Since the start of his presidency, U.S. President Barack Obama’s approval rating has declined more among non-Hispanic whites than among nonwhites, and now, fewer than 4 in 10 whites approve of the job Obama is doing as president…
In his first full week in office (Jan. 26-Feb. 1), an average of 66% of Americans approved of the job Obama was doing, including 61% of non-Hispanic whites and 80% of nonwhites.
I warned you about the left’s increasing use of racism as the wheels started coming off the administration’s trolley to hell. Well, brace yourself for another round of racism accusations with this revelation.
The simple fact of it is that many of us recognized him for what he was initially and wouldn’t vote for him if he had been white. The second simple fact is that many of the white people that voted for him are beginning to wish they hadn’t.
However, his 17-point drop has been fueled by a 5-point drop in Hispanics and larger drops in other minorities such as Native Americans and Asians and those of mixed race.
The only thing that has buoyed his approval rating is that of the Black population, whose support has been around 93% throughout.
Ironically, it can be said that their continued support is based on racism.

November 24, 2009 Breaking News
24. November 2009 by Glenn.
Question of the Day:
Q: Have you heard about McDonalds new Obama Value Meal? A: Order anything you like and the guy behind you has to pay for it.
Quote of the Day:
“Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice.”
Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677) Dutch philosopher
This is actually pretty interesting. I hadn’t thought about it this way. Of course, the $64 question is how one achieves that state of mind. Do you know?
Observations:
Sarah Palin’s book sold 300,000 copies its first day; more than Hillary’s, by a 100,000.
The Rasmussen Reports just conducted a poll that shows that the support for the health care bill has dropped to a record low of 38%. Previously, it had never fallen below 41% and two weeks ago, it was 45%.
I think that this illustrates that when people are given the facts, they tend to make the right decisions. The reason that I started this newsletter was the realization
that the media was not giving the public the news that they really needed to make intelligent decisions.
The president has returned from his vaunted Asian trip. In victory? Hardly.
Apparently, world leaders aren’t as easily fooled by his smarmy approach as those in the ‘hood’.
Not a lot of happiness in foreign policy paradise today. What is happening here is that Obama, along with selected members of the 4th grade class, is receiving on-the-job training at our expense.
Obama may find it necessary to emulate Bush’s style in order to get anything done, internationally.
Unemployment continues to rise:
Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) — California, Delaware, South Carolina and Florida registered record rates of unemployment in October as weakness in the labor market stretches from coast to coast and limits the economic recovery.
Joblessness rose in 29 U.S. states last month compared with 22 in September, the Labor Department said today in Washington. Michigan had the highest jobless rate at 15.1 percent, followed by Nevada at 13 percent and Rhode Island at 12.9 percent.
Good news folks. The president plans to hold a job summit next month at the White House! It’s about damn time! He is only about 10 months late on this.
Instead, he continues to screw around with these budget-busting bills, which if passed will drive unemployment even higher!
More on unemployment:
CNBC: As experts debate the potential speed of the US recovery, one figure looms large but is often overlooked: nearly 1 in 5 Americans is either out of work or under-employed.
According to the government’s broadest measure of unemployment, some 17.5 percent are either without a job entirely or underemployed. The so-called U-6 number is at the highest rate since becoming an official labor statistic in 1994.
The number dwarfs the statistic most people pay attention to—the U-3 rate—which most recently showed unemployment at 10.2 percent for October, the highest it has been since June 1983.
The difference is that what is traditionally referred to as the “unemployment rate” only measures those out of work who are still looking for jobs. Discouraged workers who have quit trying to find a job, as well as those working part-time but looking for full-time work or who are otherwise underemployed, count in the U-6 rate.
We are getting awful close to depression level unemployment.
That said, some are saying that we could add jobs in the next few months. That leads me back to my original prediction of several months ago that we will have a double dip recession.
I am really becoming concerned with Obama’s lack of action and his hell bent drive to add huge debt to our country. I am beginning to think that he could be crossing the line into treason, at least as it is defined.
The definition of Treason is “a betrayal of trust or faith; treachery. Violation of the allegiance owed to one’s sovereign or state; betrayal of one’s country. I think he has crossed the line here.
Unfortunately, the Constitution addresses treason only as levying war against the U.S. or giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
The Palin Convergence:
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Not that it matters politically because obviously, she’s a female Republican dunce and he’s a male Democrat genius.
But Sarah Palin’s poll numbers are strengthening.
And President Obama’s are sliding.
Guess what? They’re about to meet in the 40s.
Depending, of course, on which recent set of numbers you peruse and how the questions are phrased, 307 days into his allotted 1,461, the 44th president’s approval rating among Americans has slid to 49% or 48%, showing no popularity bounce from his many happy trips, foreign and domestic.
Riding the wave of immense publicity and symbiotic media interest over her new book, “Going Rogue,” and the accompanying promotional tour, Palin’s favorable ratings are now at 43%, according to ABC. That’s up from 40% in July.
What is it about Sarah Palin that sends liberals into a veritable frenzy at the mention of her name?
I can’t help but wonder if the liberals haven’t engaged so completely in a mutual admiration society over the years that anyone who does not have the affected manor of the intelligencia is subject to be ridiculed, especially if they don’t agree with the liberal point of view.
Either that or they are scared to death that the citizens of this country might regain control through her. See the attachment today.
Post office: Business as usual:
CBS NEWS: It’s been an ugly few years for the United States Postal Service. The quasi-government agency announced this week that it lost $3.8 billion in the most recent fiscal year, which ended September 30th. It also delivered less mail - 26 billion fewer pieces less, a nearly 13 percent drop from the previous year. The bad news follows losses totaling $7.8 billion in 2007 and 2008. The Postal Service, as it is quick to point out, is legally prohibited from taking tax
dollars. But in order to stay afloat, the agency has been actively borrowing from the U.S. Treasury: At last count, according to Postal Service spokeswoman Yvonne Yoerger, it owes the government $10.2 billion. Federal law dictates that the Postal Service can borrow up to $3 billion per year - but the debt cannot grow beyond $15 billion. That means that while the agency, which had revenues of $68.1 billion last year, could potentially borrow another $3 billion in 2010, it will soon no longer be able to legally borrow billions from the government. Meanwhile, the Postal Service is estimating that without significant changes, it will lose another $7.8 billion in the coming year - and deliver another 11 billion fewer pieces of mail. Which raises the question: Could the Postal Service be doomed?
Doomed? I hardly think so. We just get the 4th grade brain trust to figure out some new smoke and mirror strategies, like perhaps, requiring every man woman and child to mail a minimum of 12 letters a month.
In the mean time, one congersman is suggesting a bailout and the postal service is looking at eliminating Saturday delivery.
And we think the government can efficiently run health care. We are going to end up in the Bozo corner if we think that.
The Dollar continues its drop:
Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) — The most accurate dollar forecasters predict the world’s reserve currency will continue sliding even when the Federal Reserve begins to raise interest rates, which policy makers say is an “extended period” away.
Standard Chartered Plc, Aletti Gestielle SGR, HSBC Holdings Plc and Scotia Capital Inc. say the dollar will depreciate as much as 6.4 percent versus the euro. About $12 trillion of fiscal and monetary stimulus, the world’s lowest borrowing costs and a record $4 trillion of government bond sales between 2009 and 2010 will weigh on the currency, they said. So will the nation’s 10.2 (17.5%) percent unemployment rate and signs that the economic recovery may falter, they said.
The Natives are restless in Colorado:
The Anti-Obama billboard at 4855 Miller Street in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. (November 20, 2009)
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Call it Freedom of Speech. A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship. The billboard, located at 4855 Miller Road, shows two cartoonish images of Obama wearing a Muslim turban and reads “PRESIDENT or JIHAD?” It also says “BIRTH CERTIFICATE - PROVE IT!” alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President. The words “WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!” appear on the bottom of the billboard. The sign belongs to a car dealership. (That figures) “Since Fort Hood, I’ve had it,” owner Phil West told FOX 31 News Friday. “You can’t suggest things. You can’t profile. You gotta call a spade a spade.” (Probably not the best choice of words)
The Anti-Defamation League condemned the sign, as did AM760 radio host David Sirota, who discussed the sign and interviewed West on his program Friday morning. “It’s out of control,” Sirota said. “This conservative hatred of Barack Obama is out of control, and this brings together all those strands of it: the racism, the anti-Muslim fervor. It’s one thing to criticize the president on health care, or Wall Street reform, or immigration. But this is outrageous. And I think it’s a fair question to ask why these questions about religion and ancestry are being directed so viciously at the first African-American President of the United States.”
While I find the sign somewhat unsettling, I warned readers some time ago that as things began to deteriorate, the liberals would pull racism out of their pocket once again. It is their favorite weapon for stifling discussion and attacking people that disagree with them. I did not see one thing on the sign that suggested racism.
Regarding the issue of religion, I think the fact that he was muslim was hidden from the American public all during the campaign and I think that was and is a salient fact. I question whether he could have been elected had he admitted to being a muslim.
Cuomo jumps the shark:
Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) — New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s campaign fund took tens of thousands of dollars from law firms representing clients his office investigated or accused of wrongdoing, state records show.
Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP, a New York law firm led by David Boies, gave Cuomo $35,000 this year, records show. The firm represents former American International Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Maurice “Hank” Greenberg in a civil fraud case the attorney general is pursuing. Lawyers defending Dell Inc., Deutsche Bank
AG and a former state political party chief in Cuomo cases also contributed to him, records show.
Cuomo in 2006 and 2008 raised $974,000 from lawyers and lobbyists across the U.S., out of a total $18 million, according to FollowTheMoney.org.
Cuba holds Military exercises:
BREITBART: Nearly 50 years after a botched US-directed invasion of Cuba, the communist nation said Saturday it is holding a military exercise next week to boost preparedness against any future US attack.
“It is a necessity of the first order given the political-military situation that now defines relations between Cuba and the empire,” Major General Leonardo Andollo warned, referring to the United States.
Wait a minute. Isn’t Obama Castro’s fair-haired boy (so to speak)? Either Cuba has a domestic issue developing that they want to take attention from or they are trying to blackmail the US on some unfavorable negotiations regarding lifting the trade embargo.
Do you become more addicted to coffee?
Of devout coffee drinkers, about 62 percent of those who are 35 to 49 years of age say they become upset if they don’t have a cup of coffee at their regular time. Only 50 percent of those under age 35 become upset.
We’re not addicted, we’re just crankier!

The Cloward/Piven Strategy
24. November 2009 by Glenn.
Strategy for forcing political change through orchestrated crisis
Discover the Network:
First proposed in 1966 and named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse. Inspired by the August 1965 riots in the black district of Watts in Los Angeles (which erupted after police had used batons to subdue a black man suspected of drunk driving), Cloward and Piven published an article titled “The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty” in the May 2, 1966 issue of The Nation. Following its publication, The Nation sold an unprecedented 30,000 reprints. Activists were abuzz over the so-called “crisis strategy” or “Cloward-Piven Strategy,” as it came to be called. Many were eager to put it into effect. In their 1966 article, Cloward and Piven charged that the ruling classes used welfare to weaken the poor; that by providing a social safety net, the rich doused the fires of rebellion. Poor people can advance only when “the rest of society is afraid of them,” Cloward told The New York Times on September 27, 1970. Rather than placating the poor with government hand-outs, wrote Cloward and Piven, activists should work to sabotage and destroy the welfare system; the collapse of the welfare state would ignite a political and financial crisis that would rock the nation; poor people would rise in revolt; only then would “the rest of society” accept their demands. The key to sparking this rebellion would be to expose the inadequacy of the welfare state. Cloward-Piven’s early promoters cited radical organizer Saul Alinsky as their inspiration. “Make the enemy live up to their (sic) own book of rules,” Alinsky wrote in his 1972 book Rules for Radicals. When pressed to honor every word of every law and statute, every Judaeo-Christian moral tenet, and every implicit promise of the liberal social contract, human agencies inevitably fall short. The system’s failure to “live up” to its rule book can then be used to discredit it altogether, and to replace the capitalist “rule book” with a socialist one. The authors noted that the number of Americans subsisting on welfare — about 8 million, at the time — probably represented less than half the number who were technically eligible for full benefits. They proposed a “massive drive to recruit the poor onto the welfare rolls.” Cloward and Piven calculated that persuading even a fraction of potential welfare recipients to demand their entitlements would bankrupt the system. The result, they predicted, would be “a profound financial and political crisis” that would unleash “powerful forces … for major economic reform at the national level.” Their article called for “cadres of aggressive organizers” to use “demonstrations to create a
climate of militancy.” Intimidated by threats of black violence, politicians would appeal to the federal government for help. Carefully orchestrated media campaigns, carried out by friendly, leftwing journalists, would float the idea of “a federal program of income redistribution,” in the form of a guaranteed living income for all — working and non-working people alike. Local officials would clutch at this idea like drowning men to a lifeline. They would apply pressure on Washington to implement it. With every major city erupting into chaos, Washington would have to act. This was an example of what are commonly called Trojan Horse movements — mass movements whose outward purpose seems to be providing material help to the downtrodden, but whose real objective is to draft poor people into service as revolutionary foot soldiers; to mobilize poor people en masse to overwhelm government agencies with a flood of demands beyond the capacity of those agencies to meet. The flood of demands was calculated to break the budget, jam the bureaucratic gears into gridlock, and bring the system crashing down. Fear, turmoil, violence and economic collapse would accompany such a breakdown — providing perfect conditions for fostering radical change. That was the theory. Cloward and Piven recruited a militant black organizer named George Wiley to lead their new movement. In the summer of 1967, Wiley founded the National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO). His tactics closely followed the recommendations set out in Cloward and Piven’s article. His followers invaded welfare offices across the United States — often violently — bullying social workers and loudly demanding every penny to which the law “entitled” them. By 1969, NWRO claimed a dues-paying membership of 22,500 families, with 523 chapters across the nation. Regarding Wiley’s tactics, The New York Times commented on September 27, 1970, “There have been sit-ins in legislative chambers, including a United States Senate committee hearing, mass demonstrations of several thousand welfare recipients, school boycotts, picket lines, mounted police, tear gas, arrests - and, on occasion, rock-throwing, smashed glass doors, overturned desks, scattered papers and ripped-out phones.”These methods proved effective. “The flooding succeeded beyond Wiley’s wildest dreams,” writes Sol Stern in the City Journal. “From 1965 to 1974, the number of single-parent households on welfare soared from 4.3 million to 10.8 million, despite mostly flush economic times. By the early 1970s, one person was on the welfare rolls in New York City for every two working in the city’s private economy.”As a direct result of its massive welfare spending, New York City was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1975. The entire state of New York nearly went down with it. The Cloward-Piven strategy had proved its effectiveness. The Cloward-Piven strategy depended on surprise. Once society recovered from the initial shock, the backlash began. New York’s welfare crisis horrified America, giving rise to a reform movement which culminated in “the end of welfare as we know it” — the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, which imposed time limits on federal welfare, along with strict eligibility and work requirements. Both Cloward and Piven attended the White House signing of the bill as guests of President Clinton.
Most Americans to this day have never heard of Cloward and Piven. But New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani attempted to expose them in the late 1990s. As his drive for welfare reform gained momentum, Giuliani accused the militant scholars by name, citing their 1966 manifesto as evidence that they had engaged in deliberate economic sabotage. “This wasn’t an accident,” Giuliani charged in a 1997 speech. “It wasn’t an atmospheric thing, it wasn’t supernatural. This is the result of policies and programs designed to have the maximum number of people get on welfare.” Cloward and Piven never again revealed their intentions as candidly as they had in their 1966 article. Even so, their activism in subsequent years continued to rely on the tactic of overloading the system. When the public caught on to their welfare scheme, Cloward and Piven simply moved on, applying pressure to other sectors of the bureaucracy, wherever they detected weakness. In 1982, partisans of the Cloward-Piven strategy founded a new “voting rights movement,” which purported to take up the unfinished work of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Like ACORN, the organization that spear-headed this campaign, the new “voting rights” movement was led by veterans of George Wiley’s welfare rights crusade. Its flagship organizations were Project Vote and Human SERVE, both founded in 1982. Project Vote is an ACORN front group, launched by former NWRO organizer and ACORN co-founder Zach Polett. Human SERVE was founded by Richard A. Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, along with a former NWRO organizer named Hulbert James. All three of these organizations — ACORN, Project Vote and Human SERVE — set to work lobbying energetically for the so-called Motor-Voter law, which Bill Clinton ultimately signed in 1993. The Motor-Voter bill is largely responsible for swamping the voter rolls with “dead wood” — invalid registrations signed in the name of deceased, ineligible or non-existent people — thus opening the door to the unprecedented levels of voter fraud and “voter disenfranchisement” claims that followed in subsequent elections. The new “voting rights” coalition combines mass voter registration drives - typically featuring high levels of fraud — with systematic intimidation of election officials in the form of frivolous lawsuits, unfounded charges of “racism” and “disenfranchisement,” and “direct action” (street protests, violent or otherwise). Just as they swamped America’s welfare offices in the 1960s, Cloward-Piven devotees now seek to overwhelm the nation’s understaffed and poorly policed electoral system. Their tactics set the stage for the Florida recount crisis of 2000, and have introduced a level of fear, tension and foreboding to U.S. elections heretofore encountered mainly in Third World countries. Both the Living Wage and Voting Rights movements depend heavily on financial support from George Soros’s Open Society Institute and his “Shadow Party,” through whose support the Cloward-Piven strategy continues to provide a blueprint for some of the Left’s most ambitious campaigns.

November 23, 2009 Breaking News
23. November 2009 by Glenn.
Today’s attachment is one that I think that you will find very interesting. It is a delineation of the Cloward/Piven Strategy which Obama appears to be following to take this country down. Thanx for bringing this up, David.
Observations:
Well, the Senate voted 60-39 to begin debate on the health care bill on Saturday Night. (What is all of this Saturday night voting going on here?) It is anticipated that the debate will begin on November 30.
One bright spot in an otherwise dreary picture is that 4 or 5 conservative democrats are holding out on agreeing for the bill. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Nebraska has said that he doesn’t want a public option that will kill the insurance companies with which 200 million people have their insurance. Others include Mary Landrieu (now reportedly holding out for $300 Million) Blanche Lincoln, from Arkansas and of course, our buddy, Joe Lieberman.
Liberal dems are getting fired up over these people holding out and I don’t know if the holdouts really believe in what they are doing here or are just blackmailing Harry Reid for money for their state, as Landrieu did.
Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois said the health care bill must be passed by the end of the year so that the president and congress can concentrate on the economy. The problem is that if the health care bill passes, it will further trash the economy, I am afraid.
Another SNAFU is the tax on drug makers. Republicans are pointing out that the tax would hit the makers of the swine flu vaccine and they question the logic of taxing the very people who are helping us to avoid a pandemic.
The really stupid thing here is that the tax is supposed to raise about $2.3 Billion a year; so what are the manufacturers going to do? They are going to raise their prices by $2.3 Billion, which will be paid by the taxpayers in increased government costs.
Either the dems are incredibly stupid or they think we are incredibly stupid!
Three Mile Island has developed a radiation leak in one of its containment buildings. Authorities say that there is no danger to the public.
Students at historically black Lincoln University in Pennsylvania have just been reminded that obese students must take a physical fitness class in order to receive their degree. This year’s seniors, whose body mass indexes were taken when they entered as freshmen in 2006, are the first to have the requirement so they must take it spring semester in order to graduate on time.
Needless to say, the obese students are not at all happy about this.
Headline of the Day:
‘Climate change pushes poor women to prostitution, dangerous work’
GMA News:
New Poll on Health Care Bill:
WASHINGTON POST – David Broder: It’s simply not true that America is ambivalent about everything when it comes to the Obama health plan.
The day after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) gave its qualified blessing to the version of health reform produced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Quinnipiac University poll of a national cross section of voters reported its latest results.
This poll may not be as famous as some others, but I know the care and professionalism of the people who run it, and one question was particularly interesting to me.
It read: “President Obama has pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our federal budget deficit over the next decade. Do you think that President Obama will be able to keep his promise or do you think that any health care plan that Congress passes and President Obama signs will add to the federal budget deficit?”
The answer: Less than one-fifth of the voters — 19 percent of the sample — think he will keep his word. Nine of 10 Republicans and eight of 10 independents said that whatever passes will add to the torrent of red ink. By a margin of four to three, even Democrats agreed this is likely.
And this from the Left Wing Washington Post. It appears that people are finally catching on to Obama and group.
I believe that a lot of the changes in attitude of the populace is due to people like each of you talking to other people and telling them about the problems, lies, and deceit that the administration is pulling on the citizenry. You know that they are not getting the information from the lame stream media.
And I think that media is beginning to have some doubts about this president and his administration.
Also, the new Gallup poll puts the Messiah’s job approval below 50% (48%) for the first time.
I think this is a great idea:
I received this in an email and thought I would pass it on. I am going to do this, using last year’s Christmas cards. Thanx Diane
Pass this on to your church, co-workers, family, and friends. What do you have to lose but 44 cents, what do you have to gain ———– more than you will ever know.
Yes, Christmas cards. This is coming early so that you can get ready to include an important address to your list. Want to have some fun this CHRISTMAS? Send the ACLU a CHRISTMAS CARD this year. (use an old one from last year) As they are working so very hard to get rid of the CHRISTMAS part of this holiday, we should all send them a nice, CHRISTIAN card to brighten up their dark, sad, little world… Make sure it says “Merry Christmas” on it. Here’s the address, just don’t be rude or crude. (It’s not the Christian way, you know.) ACLU 125 Broad Street, 18th Floor New York, NY 10004
Two tons of Christmas cards would freeze their operations because they wouldn’t know if any were regular mail containing contributions. So spend 44 cents and tell the ACLU to leave Christmas alone. Also tell them that there is no such thing as a ” Holiday Tree”. . .It’s always been called a CHRISTMAS TREE! And pass this on to your email lists. We really want to communicate with the ACLU! They really DESERVE us!! For those of you who aren’t aware of them, the ACLU, (the American Civil Liberties Union) is the one suing the U.S. Government to take God, Christmas or anything Christian away from us. They represent the atheists and others in this war. Help put Christ back in Christmas!
The Catholics strike Back:
THE PROVIDENCE JOURNAL: WASHINGTON — Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has forbidden Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy to receive the Roman Catholic sacrament of Holy Communion because of his advocacy of abortion rights, the Rhode Island Democrat said Friday.
“The bishop instructed me not to take Communion and said that he has instructed the diocesan priests not to give me Communion,” Kennedy said in a telephone interview.
Apparently, the Catholic church is no longer afraid of the Kennedy’s. They have certainly had ample opportunity to do this before Teddy died.
I guess it depends on your perspective:
HOLLYWOOD DEADLINE: Twilight Saga moviemaker Summit Entertainment said this morning that NEW MOON opened with a phenomenal performance of a gargantuan $140.7 million first weekend in North America and, $118.1M from 25 international markets from Wednesday through Sunday, and a worldwide 5-day total of $258.8M. These numbers may change as Sunday actuals come in Monday.
The Twilight sequel’s vampires and werewolves shattered the All-Time 3rd Biggest Opening…
Anybody else have a concern with the fascination that our youth seem to have with vampires, werewolves and the occult? If I were a teen ager, I would say that I am full of it and there is no problem.
I actually began having a concern back in the days of dungeon and dragons wherein teens got so deeply into it that they developed reality problems. I can’t help wonder if these movies might be doing the same. Any influence that these movies have on the young would be negative, I think.
Iran getting ready for Israel:
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran will begin large-scale air defense war games Sunday aimed at protecting its nuclear facilities from possible attack, a senior military commander said Saturday, reflecting the country’s concern that Israel could make good on threats to strike militarily.
The drill comes as a top clerical official renewed his threat to target “the heart of Tel Aviv” should Israel attack Iran.
Another Tax Increase:
Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) — Higher-income Americans should be taxed to pay for more troops sent to Afghanistan and NATO should provide half of the new soldiers, said Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
An “additional income tax to the upper brackets, folks earning more than $200,000 or $250,000″ a year, could fund more troops, Levin, a Michigan Democrat,
said in an interview for Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt,” airing this weekend.
White House Budget Director Peter Orszag has estimated that each additional soldier in Afghanistan could cost $1 million, for a total that could reach $40 billion if 40,000 more troops are added.
Contrary to what the dems always tell us, they tend to bless us with trickle down taxes.
More screw-ups by Geithner and the Fed:
FINANCIAL TIMES: Germany’s new finance minister has echoed Chinese warnings about the growing threat of fresh global asset price bubbles, fuelled by low US interest rates and a weak dollar.
Wolfgang Schäuble’s comments highlight official concern in Europe that the risk of further financial market turbulence has been exacerbated by the exceptional steps taken by central banks and governments to combat the crisis.
Last weekend, Liu Mingkang, China’s banking regulator, criticised the US Federal Reserve for fuelling the “dollar carry-trade”, in which investors borrow dollars at ultra-low interest rates and invest in higher-yielding assets abroad.
Speaking at a banking conference in Frankfurt on Friday, Mr Schäuble said it would be “naive” to assume the next asset price bubble would take the same guise as the last.
He said: “More likely today is a scenario in which excess liquidity globally creates a new [sort of] asset market bubble.”
This is just one hell of a way to run a railroad.
How large is a Clydesdale’s horseshoe?
A horseshoe for a full-grown Clydesdale measures more that 22 inches from end to end and weighs about five pounds. It is more than two times as long and four times as heavy as a shoe worn by a riding horse.
The Economy is so bad…
The economy is so bad that I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail. The economy is so bad I ordered a burger at McDonalds and the kid behind the counter asked, “Can you afford fries with that?” The economy is so bad that CEO’s are now playing miniature golf. The economy is so bad if the bank returns your check marked “Insufficient Funds,” you call them and ask if they meant you or them. The economy is so bad Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM. The economy is so bad McDonalds is selling the 1/4 ouncer. The economy is so bad parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children’s names. The economy is so bad a truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .
The economy is so bad Motel Six won’t leave the light on anymore. The economy is so bad Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen
Thanx Dick
Keep talking to people and your congress,

November 20, 2009 Breaking News
20. November 2009 by Glenn.
Quote of the Day:
“I am trying to do two things: dare to be a radical and not a fool, which is a matter of no small difficulty.”
James A. Garfield (1831-1881) 20th US President
It appears that Obama is discovering that very principle.
Observation of the Day:
The liberals are asking us to give Obama time. We agree and think 25 to life would be appropriate.
Thanx Dick
Reader Feed Back:
Hey, I’m a tried, blue republican but find myself in a dilemma. News letter quote:
Quote of the Day:
“It is vitally important to “translate learning” accomplished in Iraq on issues such as stabilization, nation building and democratization, for example, to existing civilian and military missions in Afghanistan.”
-Karin von Hippel, Co-director, Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project, Center for Strategic and International Studies
if you can really rationalize it as that. Our foreign policy in the middle east has been nothing more than a thinly disguised veil for securing future/ongoing access to energy sources for the U.S.. Our policy has accelerated, literally forced less technologically advanced countries, like Iran to accelerate the development of nuclear weapons (40 yr old technology) as a deterrent. I…. You (maybe), would do likewise if responsible for a country and felt exposed to the incredible technology developed by the United States military. My son is currently serving over seas and quite frankly I’m really tired of seeing U.S. military personal, (our future) getting @#* ‘ d up and lives devastated because we haven’t been able to develop a cogent energy solution.. that would make the middle east a footnote in world history. I don’t know if you have children or if they are serving, but believe me, every time I fill up my tank, or turns my lights and computer / TV on…. I know some person, who went to school in OH, TN etc….. played sports or the debate team or worked in a factory, married his life long sweat heart… is going to be wasted TODAY…..(physically or mentally. PTSD) Think about it!!! Thanx, Dan
Actually, I probably owe everyone an apology on this quote of the day. It came from an individual with a think tank that testified to the Obama Homeland Security transition team. I failed to tie it in with anything else. My comment was that it was sort of restating the obvious.
I certainly understand your anxiety in having a child overseas in harm’s way.
I am not in possession of information that would allow me to unequivocally state that our foreign policy in the Middle East is driven solely by energy concerns. As the quote points out, there could also be other considerations such as nation building, stabilization (for Israel’s sake) and democratization of nations so we don’t end up as in island in a sea of unlike countries. I do agree that a factor in our Middle East policy has been the safe guarding of our energy supply.
I also have to take issue with your contention that we forced Iran to develop nuclear technology to defend itself from us. Their nuclear technology is offensive, not defensive and the president of Iran has been quoted expressing his desire to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Other than Syria and Iraq, both militant nations, none of the other Middle Eastern countries felt it necessary to develop nuclear weapons.
In fact, I think our conduct in rescuing Kuwait in Desert Storm actually reassured non-militant countries that they need not fear us.
That said, I do believe that the U.S. has been remiss in not developing a comprehensive energy policy. Carter tried to do something, but I can’t remember what. The republicans did nothing during the ensuing years, nor did the democrats under Clinton, to my knowledge.
Unfortunately, the green technologies that the current administration is trying to jam down our throat are incredibly expensive at this stage in their development. The closest thing that we have to cost effective green energy is nuclear power,
but the democrats have blocked further development of that for the past 30 years. The rest of the energy proposals are not cost effective at this time.
I think that we should develop a policy and start the research and development to bring us to energy sufficiency within a reasonable time, but the administration’s demands that we do things right now is not the thing that this country, in its weakened state, could stand.
Once you pay for our entitlements, the military and servicing the national debt, there is only pennies left over, comparatively speaking, for all other items. We have managed to put ourselves into one hell of a mess.
Observations:
One of the reasons Lou Dobbs was fired from CNN. http://d.yimg.com/kq/groups/17260182/1610997888/name/ftc‐vi26.wmv
This is still around folks. The dems seem determined to give our country away.
I reported about a month and a half ago the Oprah would pull the plug on her syndicated TV show with CBS. She has now officially done it. The contract is up in 2011, I believe and one should look for her on the Oprah Network after that.
And, of course, that airhead, Chicago mayor Daley is blaming the media for her leaving Chicago.
It appears that the white house is on a collision course with the Catholic Bishops over the abortion part of the health care plan. More trouble in paradise.
Treasury Secretary is coming under fire from some republicans saying that his programs aren’t helping the economy. He fired back that he can’t take responsibility for the crisis that he inherited. Both parties are correct in this case.
However, some liberal democrats are going after him for not doing enough to lower the unemployment rate. I have been saying that for months.
The Louisiana Purchase:
ABC News’ Jonathan Karl: What does it take to get a wavering senator to vote for health care reform?
Here’s a case study.
On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”
The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”
I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.
In other words, the bill spends two pages describing what could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)
Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.
How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.
These people are such snakes
New Science:
THE INDEPENDENT: People suffering from a form of incurable blindness could soon become the first patients in the world to benefit from a new and controversial transplant operation using stem cells derived from spare human embryos left over from IVF treatment.
Scientists working for an American biotechnology company yesterday applied for a license to carry out a clinical trial on patients in the US suffering from a type of macular degeneration, which causes gradual loss of vision. They expect the transplant operations to begin early in the New Year.
The development is highly controversial because many “pro-life” groups are opposed to using human embryos in any kind of medical research but scientists believe that the benefits could revolutionize the treatment of many incurable disorders ranging from Parkinson’s to heart disease.
Thought you should know…
Swine Flu Update:
WASHINGTON POST: Scientists in Norway announced Friday they had detected a mutated form of the swine flu virus in two patients who died of the flu and a third who was severely ill, the most recent report of mutations in the virus that are being watched closely for any change that could make it more dangerous.
In a statement, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health said the mutation “could possibly make the virus more prone to infect deeper in the airways and thus cause more severe disease,” such as pneumonia.
The institute said there was no indication that the mutation would hinder the ability of the vaccine to protect people from becoming infected or impair the effectiveness of antiviral drugs in treating people who became infected.
Army limits media access at Palin book signing:
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The U.S. Army will allow the media limited coverage of Sarah Palin’s appearance at Fort Bragg, but will bar reporters from interviewing her or her supporters on the post, officials said Thursday.
A Fort Bragg spokesman initially said the Army would ban the media from Palin’s book signing next week, fearing it would turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama. After The Associated Press and The Fayetteville Observer protested, Col. Billy Buckner said the post would permit restricted access.
A small pool of reporters will be allowed to view and document the event but will be barred from the interviews. The public will be allowed.
ACORN Receives $200,000.00 in DOJ funds:
THE HILL: ACORN and its affiliates received $200,000 in Justice Department grants between 2002 and 2009, according to a report issued Friday by the department’s inspector general.
No DOJ grants went directly to ACORN, but a handful of grants were awarded either to ACORN affiliates or to other organizations that sub-contracted projects to ACORN.
The report, requested by House Judiciary Committee ranking member Lamar Smith (R-Texas), also found a few instances of ACORN mismanagement of federally contracted work.
Lieberman slams public option:
POLITICO: Sen. Joe Lieberman’s threat to filibuster any health care bill with a public option could kill health reform this year — and embolden Democratic challengers who’d like to send him packing in 2012.
But Lieberman doesn’t seem worried.
“I don’t think about that stuff,” Lieberman told POLITICO this week. “I’m just — I’m being a legislator. After what I went through in 2006, there’s nothing much more that anybody [who] disagrees with me can try to do.”
Lieberman left the Democratic Party in 2006 after liberal Ned Lamont beat him in Connecticut’s Democratic Senate primary. Lieberman defeated Lamont in the general election and returned to Washington as an independent, where he continues to caucus with Democrats — even though he accuses them of engaging in a bit of bait and switch when it comes to the public option.
Way to go, Joe.
Hasan’s emails:
United States Army Major Nidal Hasan told a radical cleric considered by authorities to be an al-Qaeda recruiter, “I can’t wait to join you” in the afterlife, according to an American official with top secret access to 18 e-mails exchanged between Hasan and the cleric, Anwar al Awlaki, over a six month period between Dec. 2008 and June 2009.
“It sounds like code words,” said Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, a military analyst at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. “That he’s actually either offering himself up or that he’s already crossed that line in his own mind.”
Federal investigators have found that Hasan donated $20,000 to $30,000 a year to overseas Islamic “charities.” As an Army major, his yearly salary, including housing and food allowances, was approximately $92,000. A number of Islamic charities have been identified by U.S. authorities as conduits to terror groups.
Two FBI task forces, in Washington and San Diego, received the intercepted messages, but deemed them innocent.
The American-born Awlaki is considered a recruiter for al-Qaeda. He has been in hiding since the shooting, but a Yemeni journalist told ABC News today that the e-mails show Hasan was “almost a member of al-Qaeda.”

Restating the obvious?
Observations:
What is it about these goof balls running countries and insurance companies that they continue to try to buy off the Somali pirates? Third graders understand the cause and effect dynamic here.
Now the Alabama Maersk throws a few small arms rounds in the direction of a boatload of pirates and they take off. What is so hard about this?
When it comes to criminals, there are two types. The first is the opportunistic criminal that will ply his trade until the risks of life and limb outweigh the reward, which tends to send him back to look for work.
The second is the hard core that will continue criminal activity until he dies.
Common sense dictates that you use force in dealing with either type, preferably deadly.
I read a story about the Yemen authorities that captured a bunch of Somali’s near a major harbor and suspected that they were responsible for giving the pirates intelligence on the shipping schedules.
The authorities rounded them up, put them on a boat and headed out to sea. The ship returned to port that afternoon without fanfare, or Somalis.
As the story goes, they used one of the Somali’s cell phones to talk to their boss and so he could listen to the rest of them being thrown overboard in the middle of the ocean. When the last one went overboard, the cell phone went dead.
I don’t know if this story is true or not but it does contain irrefutable logic, and it would be in keeping with the Middle Eastern view of crime and punishment.
That, my friends, whether true or not, is a lesson you can believe in.
And our good buddy, the president, is still holding forth on the fact that we have to cut spending to save the economy. Like he doesn’t think we understand that the reason that the economy isn’t recovering is these damn out of control spending plans that he has hanging over all of our heads like a guillotine.
Here’s the deal. The rest of the world is recovering. We are headed for a double dip recession. Business doesn’t like uncertainty. There is no way that they are going to start adding people until they know which way the wind is blowing with this administration.
So far, it is an ill wind and there is no way that they are going to go out on a limb until they have assurances that he is not going to torpedo this country with these spending bills.
That is why we will start moving into a double dipper. Obama will not want to let go of his ideological programs to save the country. Whether he comes around in time or not is still up for grabs.
Well, the new Senate bill is out. More of the same. I wrote a letter to the editor, which I doubt will be published. It follows below.
“It is clear that Harry Reid has no shame. The health care bill that he is offering is just more of the same travesty.
They are trumpeting it as a deficit reduction bill, for crying out loud.
However, in order to get it there, they postponed the commencement of the bills effectiveness for another year; 2014.
No one denies that we need deficit reduction. October’s deficit, the first month of the new fiscal year was $176 Billion. Annualized, that is a $2 Trillion a year deficit. In 10 years, that is about $70,000 for every man woman and child in America.
In any case, the 10 year costs for the health care bill are for only 6 years. They don’t say whether there is another 2 year phase-in like the House version. If there is, the actual 10 year cost of the so called $849 Billion bill could actually be around $1.7 Trillion! That is what it was when they first started.
Also, I note that there is a provision for the states to opt out of the public option. What kind of option is that? The state opts out but the residents still have to pay the premiums for something they can’t access.
The Senate bill says that the insurance would not be available to illegal immigrants. That is pure bovine exhaust! The Constitution does not take into consideration citizen status in its protections.
Texas found that out the hard way when they attempted to quit paying for the education of children of illegal immigrants. The various organizations sued and it went to the Supreme Court, wherein Texas was informed that if the children were in the state, the state had to educate them. The administration knows this and that is why they aren’t worrying about banning illegals from the program.
The Senate and House versions agree on one thing. They both throw seniors under the bus by gutting Medicare and I bet that they will expand the Medicaid burden on states.
The democrats say that the premiums will run about 5-8% of people’s income. I was talking to an immigrant from Germany the other day and he told me that the government scrapes 15% of your income right off of the top for health care. I don’t think the Germans are any dumber than we are.
And then there is the abortion issue, which Harry Reid solved in a manner I am not sure I understand.
It puts me in mind of my Grandfather’s caution: “Figures Lie and Liars Figure”. That advice has been with me all of my life and I have yet to see it wrong; especially when it comes to congress.
Do we need reform in health care? Yep. But I think that the government could develop a basic set of rules for the industry which would eliminate a lot of the abuses of which the health care industry is accused.
That platform could be codified in federal law and open up all states to health insurance companies which would help cut costs. We also could develop some common sense tort reform, which the administration has blocked so far, for political reasons.
This whole deal reminds me of the old saw: “if you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it’s free’”.
Uh oh! The Botox tax is back. Pelosi is in big trouble.
Israeli position grows more precarious:
WTOP: WASHINGTON - The International Atomic Energy Agency and Syria are walking a tightrope and appear to be headed toward a collision over two nuclear sites where undeclared uranium was recently found.
“Syria has a record of concealing nuclear activities. The whole world saw that with the al-Kibar reactor, an undeclared facility, destroyed in 2007.”
Considering Syria’s close relationship with Iran, which has refused to bend to international will to stop its nuclear weapons production activities, there is concern Syria is following the same path.
And our muslim president wants to give Iran more time. He is really placing Israel between a rock and a hard place. It appears now that Russia has provided technology to Iran that will allow them to shrink the size of a nuclear warhead to work with a new intermediate range missile. So now they have (my bet) Syria and Iran colluding to make a nuclear weapon. Oh, and probably North Korea.
I wouldn’t trade places with Israel for anything.
Speaking of Israel:
POLITICO: The White House’s forthcoming state dinner with the Prime Minister of India is expected to be larger than those of President Barack Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush. But another upcoming White House event will be smaller than in years past: The White House’s annual Hanukkah party.
The guest list is expected to be shrunk by more than half, according to the Jerusalem Post. “Though several Jewish leaders expressed understanding for the economic and other reasons behind the cut, they acknowledged that it would likely help feed feelings in some quarters of the American Jewish community that the White House is giving them the cold shoulder.” (Ya think?)
The move comes on the heels of Obama’s cancellation of an appearance before the General Assembly of North American Jewish Federations last week.
This president is sooo bad.
Jesse Jackson plays the race card:
THE HILL: The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night criticized Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.) for voting against the Democrats’ signature healthcare bill.
“We even have blacks voting against the healthcare bill,” Jackson said at a reception Wednesday night. “You can’t vote against healthcare and call yourself a black man.”
As I have long said, Jesse Jackson’s stock in trade is racism; he can’t afford to let it go away. However, it is interesting that he is using it against a black man. As usual, he makes no sense.
Power grabs are Contagious:
THE PALM BEACH POST NEWS: JUPITER — An overgrown lawn could cost a homeowner $1,000 a day.
A plan to quadruple the penalty from the current maximum of $250 per day for a first violation is scheduled for consideration at Tuesday night’s town council meeting.
A repeat violation by the same person would be boosted to $5,000 a day maximum from $500 per day.
If the code enforcement board finds that the violation is irreversible — the unapproved removal of an historic tree, for example — the violator would face a maximum fine of $15,000. The current maximum penalty is $5,000.
“That’s outrageous,” said Stefan Harzen, a member of the property owners association for the Woodland Estates neighborhood. Increasing the fines will not result in prettier neighborhoods, he said. “This is an easy way for the town to get more money,” Harzen said.
Well, so much for a man’s home being his castle. Welcome to the brave new Obamaworld.
` I know; this isn’t Obama, but the tactics and intrusion are real similar.
Nanoparticles cause genetic damage in mice:
LOS ANGELES (UPI) — A U.S. study has shown titanium dioxide nanoparticles found in numerous household items can cause systemic genetic damage in mice. Scientists at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center said they found the titanium nanoparticles induced single- and double-strand DNA breaks and also caused chromosomal damage as well as inflammation — all of which increase the risk for cancer. The UCLA scientists, led by Professor Robert Schiestl, said their study is the first to show titanium nanoparticles have such an effect. The researchers said they found that once in the system, the nanoparticles accumulate in different organs because the body has no way to eliminate them. Because they are so small, they can go everywhere in the body, even through cells, and may interfere with sub-cellular mechanisms. In the past, titanium nanoparticles have been considered non-toxic since they don’t incite a chemical reaction. Instead, it is surface interactions that the nanoparticles have within their environment — in this case inside a mouse — that causes the genetic damage, Schiestl said. They wander throughout the body causing oxidative stress, which can lead to cell death. “This is the first comprehensive study of titanium dioxide nanoparticle-induced genotoxicity, possibly caused by a secondary mechanism associated with inflammation and/or oxidative stress,” Schiestl said. “Given the growing use of these nanoparticles, these findings raise concern about potential health hazards associated with exposure.” The study appears in the journal Cancer Research.

Today’s extra attachment is an article by the Wall Street Journal regarding the inaccuracies that the president has used to show that we really need the big health care bill. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203440104574409501904118682.html
Quote of the Day:
“No man who refuses to bear arms in defense of his nation can give a sound reason why he should be allowed to live in a free country” Theodore Roosevelt
Important Consumer Note:
I recommend that you purchase the December issue of Consumer’s Report and read the article starting on page 54 regarding BPA in our diets. BPA (Bisphenol A) has been banned in many countries but not here. It is the most widely used component in plastics, including can liners and other packaging.
From the magazine: “New evidence of the risks of BPA at low levels increases the concern about those multiple sources of exposure.”
” Our regulatory standards now are based on the outdated assumption that when you test a chemical’s safety at high doses, the results also will reveal any risks occurring at low doses, but as hundreds of studies have now demonstrated, it doesn’t work that way with estrogen-mimicking chemicals like BPA, which can have completely different
and potentially more harmful effects at low doses,” says Frederick Vom Saal, a professor of developmental biology at the University of Missouri at Columbia, and a leading researcher on BPA.
As you know, I am not a scientist or a doctor. I do not recommend specific courses of action in these areas. However, I have long believed that our increasing cancer rates could very well be due, in part, to the chemical cocktail contained in all processed foods and its packaging.
I leave it to you to make the decision, but you should make an informed decision.
My children used to tell me that they had a right to their opinion. I corrected them by telling them that they were wrong; they only had a right to their “informed” opinion.
If you feel as I do, I suggest that you contact the manufacturers of food products that you buy in cans or other plastic packaging and tell them you aren’t going to buy their product until they take the BPA out of the can lining and packaging.
Your call, folks.
Breaking News:
Major Garrett of Fox News will interview Obama in China at about 9:20 PM Eastern time (10 minutes). This is a first. Four others will also interview the president.
Correction:
Sorry folks. I was duped the other day when
Observations:
Obama 1-Me 0: Well, it appears that Obama got me again. I mentioned the other day that Obama was making another power grab for the federal government to control all light rail safety, which I didn’t think was a very good idea.
However, I was reminded of a recent incident on our own light rail (which replaced $6 million in busses with $6 Billion in train) wherein an individual got on the train carrying a box containing his own excrement. (Don’t ask me)
Right there, I knew Obama had me. I can think of no better job for his administration than regulating excrement on the light rail.
Obama redefines the term “transparency”: Here’s the latest. At least two long time employees of the EPA with 4 decades of experience in dealing with cap and trade issues, have produced a film and placed it on the internet basically telling us that the cap and trade is a bogus program which would allow traders reap (remember the back door deal with GE?) billions in profits.
They asked the EPA first and were given the go-ahead providing that they made it clear that this was not the position of the EPA, which they did.
When the White House caught wind of the film, they threatened them with their jobs if they didn’t pull it off of the internet and stop talking about the cap and trade bill. It has been pulled off of the internet.
Some transparency: Some in congress are calling for an investigation into what rules that these people broke. It’s a good bet that the democrats will quash that.
Is it not against the law for politicians purposely to lie to us? Aren’t they breaking some kind of law?
Did you note that a federal panel has just recommended that women don’t get mammograms until they hit 50?
Even though they deny it, it appears to me that they have determined that earlier mammograms are not cost effective.
The question is whether this is being done in preparation of the passing of the new health care bill to help contain costs. The other question is, if the feds are recommending against it, will your insurance cover earlier mammograms.
I see that China is still blocking a church that they call unapproved. They keep raiding and evicting the church from rented buildings and now have blocked parishioners from meeting in a park.
Dictatorial states like China, must block all religion. It is basic to their political philosophy. In order for them to function as they desire, all rights, or lack thereof, for the people must emanate from the state.
Our government was formed on the basis that the rights were passed to the people from God and the state received only those rights that the people chose to give them.
Of course, that is going away as we move toward a centralized government.
It strikes me that the liberals have a classic problem between their political philosophy and religion. I suspect that is why many liberals are, if not openly atheistic, are religious in appearance only.
I do have to say that most of the liberals I know are atheists, so at least they are not hypocritical.
Speaking of China, an article from Reuters notes that the Chinese are questioning Obama in detail on the cost of his health care plan. They are concerned with the cost of the plan and the fact that the U.S. may have to default on the debt that China holds or use inflation to cover the additional costs of the program.
Apparently, the Chinese are not buying Obama’s boilerplate assurances that everything is OK. China holds nearly $2 Trillion in our debt and Obama is talking about doubling the national debt in the next 10 years.
As noted in an earlier newsletter, the center for Medicare and Medicaid estimates that costs will rise 21.3 % of GDP under the Obama plan, but just 20.8% under current law. While that is not a big difference, it plainly shows we are going in the wrong direction.
They also point out, as I have for the past 4+ months, that there is no spending for the first three years that the health care plan is in effect (but your premiums will start immediately) and then only limited spending for the next two years. The full health care plan won’t be fully in effect for 5 years from its inception.
As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, the Senate Finance committee held a hearing on creating a bi-partisan committee to work on solving our entitlement problems. That does not happen when the current bills are the answers to our problems.
I reported on the problem special election in New York and the fact that Nancy Pelosi swore in the apparent democratic winner, even though the state told her they could not confirm election results, so that he could vote in “Saturday Night Fever” at the House. Now Doug Hoffman, who conceded the race based on erroneous information, has “Unconceded”.
Officials in New York are still counting 10,000 absentee ballots. The difference in votes is about 3,000, before the absentee ballots were counted.
His victory is still a long shot…
The worst is yet to come:
BY Nouriel Roubini
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Think the worst is over? Wrong. Conditions in the U.S. labor markets are awful and worsening. While the official unemployment rate is already 10.2% and another 200,000 jobs were lost in October, when you include discouraged workers and partially employed workers the figure is a whopping 17.5%.
While losing 200,000 jobs per month is better than the 700,000 jobs lost in January, current job losses still average more than the per month rate of 150,000 during the last recession. …
The long-term picture for workers and families is even worse than current job loss numbers alone would suggest. Now as a way of sharing the pain, many firms are telling their workers to cut hours, take furloughs and accept lower wages. Specifically, that fall in hours worked is equivalent to another 3 million full time jobs lost on top of the 7.5 million jobs formally lost.
This is very bad news but we must face facts. Many of the lost jobs are gone forever, including construction jobs, finance jobs and manufacturing jobs. Recent studies suggest that a quarter of U.S. jobs are fully out-sourceable over time to other countries.
Man, I hate to report this…
India puts nuclear plants on alert:
NEW DELHI, Nov 16 (Reuters) - India has put its nuclear power plants under alert and tightened security around them after intelligence about possible attacks, a report said on Monday. The step comes after a man arrested in the United States on charges of plotting attacks in India was found to have travelled to Indian states that have nuclear installations.
I wonder about our nuclear plants, now.
More bad news for health care bill:
THE HILL: The House-approved healthcare overhaul would raise the costs of healthcare by $289 billion over the next 10 years, according to an analysis by the chief actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The CMS report is a blow to the White House and House Democrats who have vowed that healthcare reform would curb the growth of healthcare spending. CMS’s analysis is not an apples-to-apples comparison to the cost estimate conducted by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation because CMS did not review tax provisions, which help offset the price tag of the Democrats’ measure.
Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) highlighted the report on Saturday in a written statement. “This report once again discredits Democrats’ assertions that their $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care will lower costs, and it confirms that this bill violates President Obama’s promise to ‘bend the cost curve.’ It’s now beyond dispute that their bill will raise costs, which is exactly what the American people don’t want.”… According to the 31-page report prepared by Chief CMS Actuary Richard Foster, the House-passed bill would increase costs, cut Medicare and expand Medicaid.
The problem with the democrat’s tax offsets that supposedly lower the cost of the bill have to be made up with other taxes. So it is really smoke and mirrors.
What I really find disturbing is that the democrats don’t seem to care that their bill will be a disaster for the American public.
The Rot continues—even worse:
U.S. Rep. Steve King suggests there is more than a coincidence between the resignation of White House communications director Anita Dunn and a raid on ACORN’s national office — pointing out that Dunn’s husband is “a leading ACORN defender.”
“Four days after Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell raided ACORN’s national office in New Orleans, seizing paper records and computer hard drives, White House communications director Anita Dunn — the wife of a leading ACORN defender — has resigned abruptly from her position.
“Dunn was the lead critic of Fox News for reporting on the ACORN prostitution scandal, which originally broke on September 10. Dunn subsequently launched a public attack against Fox News on October 11, and she even stated ‘let’s not pretend they’re a news network’ in reference to Fox. . .
“Not only has Dunn lavished praises on Chairman Mao and compared him to Mother Teresa, Dunn’s husband has a public record of protecting ACORN and protecting President Obama’s relationship to ACORN. . .
“Anita Dunn is married to Robert Bauer, who served as general counsel for Obama for America. In 2008, Bauer sent a letter to then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey arguing that Department of Justice should not investigate election-related fraud allegations against ACORN. . .
“The letter also claims that Republican concerns regarding ACORN-related fraud were ‘manufactured.’ Subsequent revelations have validated these Republican concerns and proven the existence of additional fraudulent activities.”
Bauer may have figured into Dunn’s resignation in another way. On Friday, he was named to replace Greg Craig as White House counsel, and the prnewser Web site observed: “Did [Dunn] have to clear room for her husband to join the administration and remove any potential concerns about conflict of interest?”
I guess we won’t have to worry about any more ACORN prosecutions from the feds.
The fix is in folks, not that there was any great danger of a serious prosecution in the first place.
More stimulus B.S.:
ABC NEWS: Here’s a stimulus success story: In Arizona’s 15th congressional district, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending. At least that’s what the Web site set up by the Obama administration to track the $787 billion stimulus says.
There’s one problem, though: There is no 15th congressional district in Arizona; the state has only eight districts.
And ABC News has found many more entries for projects like this in places that are incorrectly identified.
Late Monday, officials with the Recovery Board created to track the stimulus spending, said the mistakes in crediting nonexistent congressional districts were caused by human error.
There are many other instances of non- existent congressional districts in Arizona, as well as in other states regarding creating or saving all kinds of wonderful non-existent jobs from the stimulus.
Trouble in the “Hood”:
CHICAGO (CBS) ― Police usually close a death investigation when the Medical Examiner’s office comes down with a suicide ruling, but in the case of Chicago School Board President Michael Scott, that is not happening. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that Scott’s death early Monday was a suicide. But shortly after the ruling on Monday, police said their investigation would continue. “We know what the (medical examiner) ruled, but there’s still a lot of questions that exist out there,” police Supt. Jody Weis said. “We want to make sure we’ve done a
thorough examination before we make a definitive call ourselves. It’s early on, this investigation.” People who knew Scott well also say they can’t imagine he would take his own life….
I haven’t talked to anyone that believes that this was in fact a suicide,” said former alderman and WVON radio host Cliff Kelley. Scott’s body was found partially submerged in the Chicago River near the inoperable Kinzie Street railroad bridge after 3 a.m. Monday. His Cadillac was nearby, and a .380-caliber handgun was found underneath or near his body. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is tracing the history of that handgun and will turn over their findings to Chicago police. Sources said no suicide note has been found.

November 17, 2009 - Breaking News
17. November 2009 by Glenn.
Today’s extra attachment is an article by the Wall Street Journal regarding the inaccuracies that the president has used to show that we really need the big health care bill.

Fact-Checking the President on Health Insurance
His tales of abuse don’t stand scrutiny.
By SCOTT HARRINGTON
WALL STREET JOURNAL: In his speech to Congress last week, President Barack Obama attempted to sell a reform agenda by demonizing the private health-insurance industry, which many people love to hate. He opened the attack by asserting: “More and more Americans pay their premiums, only to discover that their insurance company has dropped their coverage when they get sick, or won’t pay the full cost of care. It happens every day.”
Clearly, this should never happen to anyone who is in good standing with his insurance company and has abided by the terms of the policy. But the president’s examples of people “dropped” by their insurance companies involve the rescission of policies based on misrepresentation or concealment of information in applications for coverage. Private health insurance cannot function if people buy insurance only after they become seriously ill, or if they knowingly conceal health conditions that might affect their policy.
Associated Press
Traditional practice, governed by decades of common law, statute and regulation is for insurers to rely in underwriting and pricing on the truthfulness of the information provided by applicants about their health, without conducting a costly investigation of each applicant’s health history. Instead, companies engage in a certain degree of ex post auditing—conducting more detailed and costly reviews of a subset of applications following policy issue—including when expensive treatment is sought soon after a policy is issued.
This practice offers substantial cost savings and lower premiums compared to trying to verify every application before issuing a policy, or simply paying all claims, regardless of the accuracy and completeness of the applicant’s disclosure. Some states restrict insurer rescission rights to instances where the misrepresented or concealed information is directly related to the illness that produced the claim. Most states do not.
To highlight abusive practices, Mr. Obama referred to an Illinois man who “lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found he hadn’t reported gallstones that he didn’t even know about.” The president continued: “They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it.”
Although the president has used this example previously, his conclusion is contradicted by the transcript of a June 16 hearing on industry practices before the Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigation of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The deceased’s sister testified that the insurer reinstated her brother’s coverage following intervention by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. She testified that her brother received a prescribed stem-cell transplant within the desired three- to four-week “window of opportunity” from “one of the most renowned doctors in the whole world on the specific routine,” that the procedure “was extremely successful,” and that “it extended his life nearly three and a half years.”
The president’s second example was a Texas woman “about to get a double mastectomy when her insurance company canceled her policy because she forgot to declare a case of acne.” He said that “By the time she had her insurance reinstated, her breast cancer more than doubled in size.”
The woman’s testimony at the June 16 hearing confirms that her surgery was delayed several months. It also suggests that the dermatologist’s chart may have described her skin condition as precancerous, that the insurer also took issue with an apparent failure to disclose an earlier problem with an irregular heartbeat, and that she knowingly underreported her weight on the application.
These two cases are presumably among the most egregious identified by Congressional staffers’ analysis of 116,000 pages of documents from three large health insurers, which identified a total of about 20,000 rescissions from millions of policies issued by the insurers over a five-year period. Company representatives testified that less than one half of one percent of policies were rescinded (less than 0.1% for one of the companies).
If existing laws and litigation governing rescission are inadequate, there clearly are a variety of ways that the states or federal government could target abuses without adopting the president’s agenda for federal control of health insurance, or the creation of a government health insurer.
Later in his speech, the president used Alabama to buttress his call for a government insurer to enhance competition in health insurance. He asserted that 90% of the Alabama health-insurance market is controlled by one insurer, and that high market concentration “makes it easier for insurance companies to treat their customers badly—by cherry-picking the healthiest individuals and trying to drop the sickest; by overcharging small businesses who have no leverage; and by jacking up rates.”
In fact, the Birmingham News reported immediately following the speech that the state’s largest health insurer, the nonprofit Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, has about a 75% market share. A representative of the company indicated that its
“profit” averaged only 0.6% of premiums the past decade, and that its administrative expense ratio is 7% of premiums, the fourth lowest among 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans nationwide.
Similarly, a Dec. 31, 2007, report by the Alabama Department of Insurance indicates that the insurer’s ratio of medical-claim costs to premiums for the year was 92%, with an administrative expense ratio (including claims settlement expenses) of 7.5%. Its net income, including investment income, was equivalent to 2% of premiums in that year.
In addition to these consumer friendly numbers, a survey in Consumer Reports this month reported that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama ranked second nationally in customer satisfaction among 41 preferred provider organization health plans. The insurer’s apparent efficiency may explain its dominance, as opposed to a lack of competition—especially since there are no obvious barriers to entry or expansion in Alabama faced by large national health insurers such as United Healthcare and Aetna.
Responsible reform requires careful analysis of the underlying causes of problems in health insurance and informed debate over the benefits and costs of targeted remedies. The president’s continued demonization of private health insurance in pursuit of his broad agenda of government expansion is inconsistent with that objective.
Mr. Harrington is professor of health-care management and insurance and risk management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
