Today’s attachment is a column by Charles Krauthammer regarding the media’s attempt to medicalize Hasan and avoid calling his multiple killings a muslim jihad. An excellent read.

Observations:

It was announced yesterday that the deficit for the month of October, the first month of the new fiscal year was $176,400,000,000.00. Annualized, that is a deficit of over $2 Trillion a year! And that is before we add the health care bill. That means the deficit for the year equals about $7,000 for every man, woman and child in the U.S. This does not take into consideration the tax money that is collected and spent. This is all borrowed money.

If that annual deficit repeated itself for 10 years, it would be $20 Trillion or about $70,000 for every man woman and child in the country. That does not include interest.

Nancy Pelosi, a Felon? I wrote the other day about the problem with Hoffman/Owens vote in New York State and that Pelosi rushed Owens to Washington and swore him in so he could vote for the health care bill during Saturday Night Fever.

Now it turns out that the New York State Election Commission notified Nancy Pelosi that they could not certify the vote before the weekend. Knowing this, Pelosi still swore in Owens. That’s just plain wrong!

Have you ever wondered why Obama is so determined to Mirandize captured enemy combatants, or retry terrorists in civil court in the U.S. after they have plead guilty to terrorism in Military courts and/or release some into the U.S.?

Do you suppose he may be sympathetic to their plight?

Observation of the Day:

A man seldom makes the same mistake twice.

Generally, it’s three times or more.

Castro lauds Obama:

HAVANA (AP) – Think you’re obsessed with President Barack Obama and the many challenges he faces at home and abroad?

Well, you’re not alone.

Fidel Castro appears to have a fascination with the American leader that would make Obama Girl jealous, writing obsessively not only about his politics, but of his youth and vigor.

And unlike with past American heads-of-state — he slammed President George W. Bush as a genocidal drunk — Castro seems to genuinely like the fresh face in Washington.

Since handing over the Cuban presidency to his brother in February 2008, the 83-year-old has continued to publish his thoughts in essays called “Reflections of Comrade Fidel,” which are dutifully printed in state media and read repeatedly on government-controlled radio and television.

What’s not to like? Castro ruined the economy of Cuba and put it under dictatorial rule. He thinks of Obama as his son, following in his footsteps.

Preview of your coming attractions:

THE TELEGRAPH: UK–Lord Smith of Finsbury believes that implementing individual carbon allowances for every person will be the most effective way of meeting the targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

It would involve people being issued with a unique number which they would hand over when purchasing products that contribute to their carbon footprint, such as fuel, airline tickets and electricity.

Like with a bank account, a statement would be sent out each month to help people keep track of what they are using.

If their “carbon account” hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits.

Those who are frugal with their carbon usage will be able to sell their unused credits and make a profit.

Lord Smith will call for the scheme to be part of a “Green New Deal” to be introduced within 20 years when he addresses the agency’s annual conference on Monday.

Just because I reported yesterday that Obama has indicated that he would not pursue costly programs like the cap and tax, doesn’t mean that he was telling the truth. One of his favorite tactics is to put people off of their guard, either by telling them that he isn’t going to do something or creating chaos in another area to distract them from watching him on that particular issue.

You just never can take your eyes off of this guy!

What do they know?

Nov. 13 (Bloomberg) — The trade deficit in the U.S. widened in September by the most in a decade, reflecting rising demand for imported oil and automobiles as the economy rebounded from the worst recession since the 1930s.

The gap grew a larger-than-anticipated 18 percent to $36.5 billion, the highest level since January, from a revised $30.8 billion in August, the Commerce Department said today in Washington. Imports surged by the most in 16 years, swamping a gain in exports.

What do you suppose is creating the rush to buy imported automobiles? What might those buyers know that we don’t know, if anything?

Could it be that they believe that the dollar will continue to fall against foreign currencies, eventually placing imported goods out of reach for many?

The flip side of this is that U.S. goods will be cheaper overseas and may help exports and our balance of trade. However, as noted above, exports werren’t strong enough.

How Low can he go?

This photo will get Democrat President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. Very low bows like this are a sign of great respect and deference for a superior.

Apparently, our president thinks that other world leaders are superior to him.

I guess I have to agree with him on that count.

CANADA’S HEALTHCARE DISASTER By DICK MORRIS THE HILL.COM: After more than a decade of public healthcare with mandatory coverage, so many Canadian doctors have left the practice and so many young people have entered other fields that Canada ranks 26th of 28 developed nations in its ratio of physicians to population. Once, Canada ranked among the leaders in the number of physicians, but that was before government healthcare drove doctors out of the practice in droves. The fundamental fact is that we cannot cover 36 million new patients without more doctors and nurses, much less with the declining census of medical professionals the Canadian experience points to. A recent survey of doctors by the Pew Institute found that 45 percent of all practicing doctors would consider retiring or closing their practices if the Obama healthcare bill passes. This scarcity of medical personnel heightens the likelihood of draconian rationing, lengthy waiting lists and lower-quality medical care for all of us, particularly for the elderly. This physician shortage leads to massive and never-ending waiting lists. In 1993, for example, there was an average wait of 9.3 weeks from the time a patient got a referral from a general practitioner to the time he could see a specialist. By 1997, the wait was up to 11.7 weeks. Now it’s 17.3 weeks — over four months just to see a specialist! In Canada, unions control the entire healthcare process. In Manitoba, for example, there is an eight-month wait for colonoscopies, yet the unions do not permit weekend or evening procedures, thereby extending the waiting lists. The unions are doing to healthcare in Canada what they have done to education in America: stifling creativity, reinforcing bureaucracy and extending waiting times. Because of these long waits for colonoscopies, there is now a 25 percent higher incidence of colon cancer in Canada than in the United States. And because the leading drugs that we routinely use to treat the malady in the U.S. are banned in Canada because of their high cost, 41 percent of Canadians who get the cancer die of it, compared with only 32 percent in the United States. Overall, the cancer death rate in Canada runs 16 percent higher than in the United States. Cancer does not wait for waiting lists to clear. The potential of healthcare changes to shrink the doctor population, exacerbating scarcity and extending waits, is even worse now that it is apparent we have

overestimated the number of doctors in the U.S. Where we once thought there were 840,000 doctors, the total is now estimated to be only 760,000. The proposed $400 billion cut in Medicare raises the probability that more and more of those doctors who do practice will refuse to accept Medicare patients, aggravating the doctor shortage among the elderly, the population that needs them the most. As Obama’s program moves through Congress, despite the fierce opposition of a majority of American voters in virtually all the polls, it becomes clear that those moderates who vote for it will face harsh retribution at the polls from their outraged constituents. A kind of suicide-pact mentality is gripping the Democratic majorities in Congress, akin to that which came over it when Congress passed President Bill Clinton’s tax package in 1993. This disregard for the will of the marginal voter may make sense for those who come from safe districts, but it makes none for those who come from swing districts. For them, suicidal conduct leads to political demise.

Thought you would like to know what is in store for you.

Republicans finally beginning to wake up:

WASHINGTON TIMES: Former President George W. Bush, outlining plans for a new public policy institute, on Thursday said America must fight the temptation to allow the federal government to take control of the private sector, declaring that too much government intervention will squelch economic recovery and expansion.

With the Obama administration establishing far-reaching controls in the auto, real estate and financial sectors, Mr. Bush said that “the role of government is not to create wealth, but to create the conditions that allow entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive.”

To all my demented dementiaed middle age women friends:

Blood test may detect Alzheimer’s early

GOTHENBURG, Sweden (UPI) — Middle-aged women with high levels of the amino acid homocysteine are twice as likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease later, Swedish researchers found. Thesis author Dr. Dimitri Zylberstein, of Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, said the discovery could lead to a new and simple way of determining who is at risk for Alzheimer’s long before there are any signs of the illness. Zylberstein used data from the Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg, which was started at the end of the 1960s when nearly 1,500 women age 38-60 were examined, asked questions about their health and had blood samples taken. Nearly all of the samples have now been analyzed and compared with information on who went on to suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia much later. “Alzheimer’s disease was more than twice as common among the women with the highest levels of homocysteine than among those with the lowest, and the risk for any

kind of dementia was 70 percent higher,” Zylberstein said in a statement. The researchers do not yet know whether it is the homocysteine itself that damages the brain, or whether there is some other underlying factor that both increases levels of the homocysteine and causes dementia. Elevated homocysteine levels have been linked to certain vitamin deficiencies — B12 and folate.

What about Guys?

Quote of the Day:

“To make laws that man cannot, and will not obey, serves to bring all law into contempt.”

Elizabeth Stanton (1815-1902) US reformer

Something else I have been complaining about.

Observations:

Wrong again, it appears. The president may have found a fall guy in the person of the ambassador from Afghanistan. Reportedly, the Ambassador sent to cables to Washington opposing the troop buildup without addressing the corruption of the Karzai regime.

We don’t know if that is what the Ambassador really said. It was what the administration told us that he said. Of course, the Ambassador is not at liberty to defend himself in the latter.

In any case, this gives Obama a fall guy when things go wrong while giving him the political expediency to cave into his far left wing constituency.

I feel kind of funny, assuming that the president would lie to us but he has done it as a matter of course since (and before) he was elected. It has become so commonplace that it is like they are not even embarrassed when they get caught in a lie.

They may be thinking that the group that they can fool all of the time is larger than the 20% it actually is. They may also be misreading the independents which are leaving him by the droves.

Karzai is probably asking Obama what the big deal is about all of the corruption in his administration, given that Karzai isn’t doing anything that Obama isn’t.

Update—and still wrong: This guy has more crooks and bends than the Snake River. Now he says that he won’t send troops if the public doesn’t support it.

What does that mean? Which public? How do you measure that? Do they just call up their buddies on their cell phones and ask them if they support it?

That said, and notwithstanding the fact that Obama’s lack of executive experience may be showing, this is an incredibly difficult question and frankly, I am not sure what the correct answer is. Of course, I do not have access to the intelligence, or the experts, that Obama does.

This is not only a foreign policy issue, it is also a military issue and further, one of ideology; to be or not to be nation builders. (I discussed this issue several months ago in an earlier newsletter)

It increasingly looks like Obama may miss the January closing date for Guantanamo.

I reported a couple of months ago that it appeared that Greg Craig, chief White House counsel, was being selected for throwing under the bus in place of Obama if the deadline wasn’t met.

Although an official announcement hasn’t been made, it appears that Mr. Craig will have tire tracks over him within the next week.

It should be noted that Mr. Craig is a very able attorney and not one of the 4th grade class. Craig led the defense of Clinton during his impeachment trial. He also was one of the first to get on the Obama bandwagon when he ran against Hillary. In regard to Hillary, I think that is very telling.

I was wondering the other night about what life would have been like if Ross Perot had been elected president. No giant sucking sound?

I always had a feeling that there was some nobility in him and he was genuinely concerned with the path of this country. No wonder the two parties couldn’t have him elected.

He might have been uncontrollable.

He might have actually represented the citizens of this country.

A Gallup poll released yesterday said that about 54% of the people polled did not want to see their incumbent congressperson back in office. That is huge folks! Maybe it is time that we took back our country and got rid of the good ol’ boys. Steve Smith, McCain’s former presidential campaign manager has been quoted as saying that Palin would be catastrophic as the republican’s nominee.

Those are pretty strong words from someone who ran the weakest, most unimaginative, loose, visionless and lackluster campaign in the history of the country.

I can’t remember if he was the first or second campaign manager. I wrote a blistering letter to McCain about the lack of vision in his campaign and, perhaps coincidentally, the campaign manager was fired two weeks later. However, the replacement was just a visionless as the first one.

Speaking of Palin, I caught part of Hard Ball with Chris Matthews yesterday on MSNBC, and there was an all out attack on Palin going on. They are apparently so

hard up for something to get on her that they kept bringing up the father of her grandchild. Pretty damn weak.

And you heard it here first. I think Palin is going to hit the political scene in 2011 like a runaway freight train. I think she is a star; political dynamite. She has a couple of years to get her program together and she seems to be sharpening her skills in small communities rather than the big cities.

I think that is smart for a couple of reasons. First, the effects of personal contact with folks in small towns will last a lot longer than with their jaded and fickle brethren in the big city. Secondly, she gets to practice her delivery and get a good feel for what the heart and soul of America needs and believes, and she can do this out of the lime light of the liberal press.

When the election heats up, she will have to stick with the big cities for the press coverage and hopefully when she hits the big cities, she will be prepared to take on the liberal press on their own turf.

Whether she will make a good president, it is too early to tell. But I think she could have the makings.

I caught a clip of the Obama photo op of him inviting the wounded warriors to play a game of basketball at the White House. It is pretty neat to see these guys play in their wheel chairs.

Of course, the cynic in me screams “photo op”. I have noticed a new note in Obama’s demeanor as of late. I actually saw Obama wearing a Flag pin during his “papered” interview on ABC.

He disdained the wearing of flag pins during his campaign. I think this shows he is getting a little desperate and is trying to go more mainstream. We may not have been as stupid as he gave us credit for.

I happened to catch part of President Bush’s first TV speech yesterday afternoon, since he left office. Just out of curiosity, I checked the networks, 2 CNN stations and MSNBC and Fox was the only one carrying the speech.

What a surprise.

Hugo Chavez found himself on television telling the populace of Venezuela to limit themselves to 3-minute showers. The reason? A first class water shortage; and this on top of a first class power shortage, the latest in Hugo’s 21st century Marxist program.

So, let’s see; we have mandatory water rationing, daily power outages that affect large parts of the country, the country is in deep recession but inflation is still running at 30% annually, and the murder rate has tripled since he took office. Caracas has the highest per capita murder rate in the world.

How is Chavez handling all of these problems? He is threatening to declare war on neighboring Columbia, and in fact is moving troops to the border.

Ah, the classic misdirection. Give them something much worse to take their minds off all the bad things that are happening.

While it is unlikely that he will carry out his threats, war is the last option for a beleaguered dictator.

Obama really knows how to pick them.

The CDC just revealed that they are now estimating 22 million cases of H1N1 in this country. They also moved the death toll attributable to H1N1 1,000, to 4,000.

Unfortunately, my natural cynicism immediately recalls Obama’s chief gunsel’s words: “Never let a good crisis go to waste”. They say that they are now including other causes of death like pneumonia, infections etal that they say are a result of the H1N1 flu.

I have to note what a convenient thing a major health scare can be to help pass a health care bill. This is right out of the “Handbook for Radicals”

It appears that the young, children and those under 40 or so, should get the vaccination. Oldsters apparently have some immunity from past cases of flu. That is why we are at the back of the bus when it comes to get the vaccine. (Geez, I hope that is the reason)

ACORN is now suing the federal government for cutting off its funding. It says that congress singled them out and it is unconstitutional to do that and to cut off the funding without due process, investigation, trial, etc.

I think we ought to do that. I think we ought to prosecute ACORN under the RICO statutes and seize all of their ill-gotten gains and put the perpetrators in prison.

Making perfect sense:

IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY - YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR. IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY - YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY. IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER - YOU GET SHOT. IF YOU CROSS THE TURKEY BORDER ILLEGALLY - YOU SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE IN PRISON! BUT, IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY - YOU GET: -A DRIVERS LICENSE -A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD -WELFARE

-FOOD STAMPS - AND, FREE HEALTH CARE Oh well, sure. That makes perfect sense.

The secret password to get across the border is “Vote Democrat”.

Thanx, Sonia

Don’t let the turkeys get you down:

Quote of the Day:

“Were there none who were discontented with what they have, the world would never reach anything better.”

Florence Nightingale, English Nursing Pioneer (1820-1910)

And therein lays the great fallacy of Marxism. Marxism institutionalizes the misery across the board for everyone (except the intelligencia that happen to be in power) and whether one is discontented with what one has or not makes no difference because the opportunity to change things is not there.

Observations;

OK, I could have been wrong yesterday. Now I am learning the Obama may reject all recommendations regarding Afghanistan. This could be an indication that Obama is under heavy pressure and he can’t push someone else in front of him to be the fall guy in the event of a wrong decision. This tends to lead to bouncing off walls, which we may be seeing here.

It appears that Lou Dobbs, long time CNN reporter has had a can tied to his tail.

Lou said on his Wednesday night show that he was leaving to pursue other interests.

One does not leave a position like that to pursue other interests with 48 hours notice. Lou has been increasingly critical of the feds and their immigration policy, among others, and CNN said that he violated their unbiased reporting rule. I suspect that he violated their rule against logical and/or conservative viewpoints.

I can’t help but wonder if the administration didn’t put a bug in the CNN president’s ear.

Latin American organizations celebrated his departure and their success in getting rid of him. Interestingly enough, nothing was heard from the Lithuanian American society. Well, I guess they usually come here legally.

New developments in the race in New York for the House of Reps. Seat. Doug Hoffman, the conservative candidate conceded the race to democratic challenger Bill Owens when Hoffman was told, incorrectly, that he had lost his own county and that Owens had a 5000 vote lead on him.

Now it turns out, Hoffman won his county by 1748 votes and Owens margin of victory is down to around 3000 votes, with the absentee ballots yet to be counted.

In a highly unusual move, when Owens was declared winner, the dems whisked him immediately to Washington, where he was instantly sworn in so he could vote the Saturday Night fever vote for health care and his vote insured victory. I wonder what happens if it turns out that Owens didn’t win the office.

Did anyone see The Early Show on CBS when a Beaver urinated on a CBS correspondent? Who knew there were conservative Beavers?

Harry Reid is now calling for higher taxes to help fund this bunker buster of a health care bill. However, he is not saying whether it will lower premiums or not.

My guess is not. In fact, most liberals familiar with the bill, but not involved with passing it admit that not only will insurance premiums be higher, but people with incomes below Obama’s $250,000 mark will see an increase in taxes.

Headline of the Day:

If I had to guess, I would say she is allergic to socialism

CUNY says 90% of freshman can’t do basic algebra:

NEW YORK DAILEY NEWS: More city kids are graduating from high school, but that doesn’t mean they can do college math.

Basic algebra involving fractions and decimals stumped a group of City University of New York freshmen - suggesting city schools aren’t preparing them, a CUNY report shows.

“These results are shocking,” said City College Prof. Stanley Ocken, who co-wrote the report on CUNY kids’ skills. “They show that a disturbing proportion of New York City high school graduates lack basic skills.”

While I would like to say that it is part of a “Vast Left Wing Conspiracy” to dumb down the population so they vote for Marxism, I don’t think that is the case, at least not totally.

I think more likely, it is poor teachers and poor teaching methods. Some people have strong math acumen and some don’t. Those that don’t need to have more work by the instructor and the student in order to achieve a reasonable level of proficiency.

I hasten to say that, in many cases, the fault may not lie with the instructor, but with the cultural attitude of the student, especially in inner city schools.

I can’t help but wonder if curriculums in inner city schools shouldn’t include classes wherein trained instructors concentrate on learning about the students, personally, and helping them with goal setting and trying to instill some hope and motivation in them before they go on to more difficult classes.

Unmotivated students make poor learners.

China warns Obama about Dalai Lama:

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese government spokesman said Barack Obama should be especially sympathetic to China’s opposition to the Dalai Lama and Tibetan independence, as a black president who lauded Abraham Lincoln for helping abolish slavery…

China is sure to condemn such a meeting, and spokesman Qin underscored — and possibly intensified — the political temperature of the issue by citing Obama’s background and admiration for President Abraham Lincoln, who opposed the secession of the southern states and sought to abolish slavery, which Qin likened to Tibetan society under the Dalai Lama…

China is not that stupid. Either they are offering that to Obama as an explanation for his throwing Tibet under the bus or because they think Obama is really stupid. I do not recall ever seeing a more convoluted justification for a country’s hegemony.

Current Media cuts 80 jobs:

BREITBART: Current Media, a cable television company co-founded by former US vice president Al Gore, announced Wednesday that it is cutting 80 jobs as part of a reorganization.

The layoffs, which will leave Current with some 300 employees worldwide, come seven months after the San Francisco-based startup shelved plans for a 100-million-dollar initial public offering, citing market conditions.

Now there is a stimulus package success story that I can believe in.

Iran’s Nuke plant estimated to be 7 years old:

VIENNA (AP) — Iran’s recently revealed uranium enrichment hall is a highly fortified underground space that is a year away from completion after fitful construction that first started seven years ago, diplomats told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The diplomats also said that a recent inspection of the facility near the holy city of Qom by the International Atomic Energy Agency has reinforced suspicions that it could have been planned as part of a secret military nuclear program. Iran says it wants to enrich only to make atomic fuel but the West fears it could retool its program to churn out fissile warhead material.

One of the diplomats — a senior official from a European nation — says the hall is too small to be able to house the tens of thousands of centrifuges needed for peaceful industrial nuclear enrichment but the right size for the few thousand advanced machines that could generate the amount of weapons grade uranium needed for a military nuclear program.

And Obama wants to give these guys more time to comply…

Keep after ‘em folks,

Glenn

Quote of the Day:

“Alexander Hamilton started the U.S. Treasury with nothing, and that was the closest our country has ever been to being even.”

Will Rogers (1879-1935) US actor, humorist

Headline of the Day:

Ahmadinejad: Obama must choose between Israel and Iran

The Jerusalem Post

Guess we know which one Obama will pick

Observations:

It appears that Obama will go for the surge, which surprises me. I expected him to cave into the far left again and take the politically expedient way to solve (or botch) his problems.

I watched a Senate budget committee hearing last night, chaired by Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND). (I can’t believe I actually watched this) Turned out to be pretty interesting.

Conrad said that he had a friend, who was over in China talking with top government officials on trade issues call him. He went on to say that the Chinese were convinced that the U.S. is so politically dysfunctional that we will stay in denial as to the seriousness of our economic situation until we drop to a second tier nation!

He then said that he didn’t think anyone in congress would want to be responsible for that but, as one Senator put it, “We don’t want to suffer the short term pain for the long term gain”.

They had a panel of experts testify and a senior fellow from the left wing Brookings Institute did say that while he was for social benefits for everyone, one could not ignore the economic impact of the health care bill.

The Senator from New Hampshire said that congress does not do comprehensive well. He suggested that we identify the problems with health care, then take them on one or two at a time, and work with them to get it right before going on to the next issue. The left wing guy from the Brookings Institute had a reservation but said that he had to agree with that approach. I have been promoting that approach for the past 6 or more months.

This committee is looking at setting up some kind of a commission to do the budget because they recognize that the way congress is now structured cannot develop a responsible budget. How about that, Folks?

I have said for some time that I kind of like that Conrad guy.

Obama is scheduled to visit China next week and has vowed to improve relations with them. Why am I not convinced?

Especially given the fact that China is aggressively hacking our computer networks, including both presidential campaigns last year and government networks and satellite communications this year.

The yellow rat triumvirate is half way to bringing us universal health care. They will stop and nothing to do so. We must supply health care to the poor.

The problem, which afflicts all 4th graders, is the law of unintended consequences (this is giving them the benefit of the doubt that they really want to help the poor) and that consequence is that the health care bill will bring us close, if not into bankruptcy (the cap and trade bill should push us the rest of the way).

Who suffers the most when we have an economic meltdown? THE POOR! The very people that they say they want to help.

Washington Post at it again:

WASHINGTON POST: …Gen. George Casey, the Army chief of staff, said Sunday that he was concerned “this increased speculation” about Hasan’s evolving political and religious views “could cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers.” Casey is right to worry about the lunatics and bigots who now will think of all Muslims in the

military as potential enemies. But it only feeds such paranoia to ignore alarm bells that an unstable individual, Muslim or not, is about to blow.

Apparently, these guys’ minds only work intermittently. There seems to be a dearth of logic in their reasoning.

Here we have them calling people (us) lunatics and bigots if we worry about muslims in the military as potential enemies. OK. How does one tell the terrorist ones or the nuts from the rest?

Then they turn around and state that this kind of paranoia is justified, given the Armies lack of action in this and potentially other cases.

The other issue here is General Casey himself. General Casey is all for diversity in his army. Word has it that others that were concerned with Hasan’s behavior were afraid that if they spoke up, their careers would take a hit instead of Hasan’s because Casey would protect the diversity.

For the most part, no general that has achieved that rank during peacetime, with few exceptions, is worth a damn as a warrior, just as no police chief of a large city is worth a damn as a policeman. These men, with rare exceptions, achieve their station in life because they are great politicians.

A war- time commander would not approve of the crap that Casey has. Can you imagine Bull Halsey, Douglas MacArthur, George Patton or Ray Spruance allowing this stuff to happen? They have a narrow view of the military and what it takes to protect their country. They wouldn’t abide with this folderol. Their subordinates would not have feared to bring this guy to their attention and they would have moved this guy out immediately.

The administration, predictably, is trying to paint this as a criminal act rather than a terrorist act in order to protect muslims. Interestingly, Hasan himself warned of muslim terrorism within the ranks of the military if we didn’t stop sending them to war in muslim countries.

And of course, the good Mayor Daly of Chicago blamed the Ft. Hood Massacre on guns! He is such a ditz. Here is a guy that is truly logic challenged. How did these people grow up without being run over in the street?

Given the number of goofy politicians, it appears that we have managed to repeal the law of natural selection.

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics:

BOSTON GLOBE: While Massachusetts recipients of federal stimulus money collectively report 12,374 jobs saved or created, a Globe review shows that number is wildly exaggerated. Organizations that received stimulus money miscounted jobs, filed erroneous figures, or claimed jobs for work that has not yet started.

The Globe’s finding is based on the federal government’s just-released accounts of stimulus spending at the end of October. It lists the nearly $4 billion in stimulus awards made to an array of Massachusetts government agencies, universities, hospitals,

private businesses, and nonprofit organizations, and notes how many jobs each created or saved.

But in interviews with recipients, the Globe found that several openly acknowledged creating far fewer jobs than they have been credited for.

One of the largest reported jobs figures comes from Bridgewater State College, which is listed as using $77,181 in stimulus money for 160 full-time work-study jobs for students. But Bridgewater State spokesman Bryan Baldwin said the college made a mistake and the actual number of new jobs was “almost nothing.’’ Bridgewater has submitted a correction, but it is not yet reflected in the report.

In other cases, federal money that recipients already receive annually - subsidies for affordable housing, for example - was reclassified this year as stimulus spending, and the existing jobs already supported by those programs were credited to stimulus spending. Some of these recipients said they did not even know the money they were getting was classified as stimulus funds until September, when federal officials told them they had to file reports.

“There were no jobs created. It was just shuffling around of the funds,’’ said Susan Kelly, director of property management for Boston Land Co., which reported retaining 26 jobs with $2.7 million in rental subsidies for its affordable housing developments in Waltham. “It’s hard to figure out if you did the paperwork right. We never asked for this.’’

This is such an outrage! It is so bad that even the far left Boston Globe (owned by the New York Times) is being forced to report on it!

The Obama administration is, in effect, making this stuff up and enlisting the help of government recipients and others to back them up.

Lewis Carroll was closer to reality when he wrote Alice in Wonderland than Obama is in his reconciliation of the effects of his stimulus plan.

Economic Snap Shot:

BLOOMBERG: China’s industrial production soared 16 percent from a year ago and orders for Japanese machinery surged 10 percent from the previous month, signaling the recovery is accelerating in the world’s second- and third-biggest economies. Earnings from Paris-based bank Credit Agricole SA and Swiss cement-maker Holcim Ltd. beat analysts’ estimates. A record 80 percent of S&P 500 companies have topped third-quarter projections, according to Bloomberg data going back to 1993.

And yet the dollar continues to fall.

Since we have little or no industrial base left, most of our goods come from outside the country. If the dollar keeps falling against foreign currencies, only the rich will be able to afford to shop at Wal-Mart!

Update: China has just signaled that they may release the Yuan to appreciate against a basket of international currencies. China had frozen it to the dollar when the dollar

started dropping and in fact, let it follow the dollar down in order to protect their trade with the U.S. However, that may no longer be the case. My earlier observation regarding Wal-Mart, above, could happen sooner than we think.

The Fix is in:

NEW YORK – NBC (will be)… spreading a pro-environmental message across five of its prime-time entertainment programs.

“30 Rock,” where Al Gore takes a cameo role, leads the way. Environmental themes were also added to the scripts of “The Biggest Loser,” “The Office,” “Heroes” and “Community.”

NBC Universal’s three-year “green” campaign has largely focused on off-camera issues like making company facilities more eco-friendly. News and information programs have also been enlisted to do stories on environmental issues…

NBC News is also involved next week. The “Today” show will have a series on cost-efficient ways for families to live greener lives. Anne Thompson will do environmental stories from Greenland, Denmark and Arizona on “Nightly News,” and David Gregory will bring up the topic on “Meet the Press.”

Activities on NBC Universal’s cable properties include hosts on The Weather Channel advising viewers to turn down their thermostats.

I warned readers about 6 months ago about a back door deal between Obama and General Electric. (General Electric owns NBC) I said that GE, in return for an inside track to make literally Billions of dollars on the cap and trade bill, agreed to do $500,000,000.00 in green advertising to help the bill pass. It appears that they will gild the lily with green content in the shows to get people thinking about being green.

Liberals will say, “What’s so bad about that? We need to think green.” That’s true, as far as it goes. The problem is that the cap and trade, if ratified, will plunge a knife right through the financial heart of every citizen in this country.

Again, I say that we need to take an incremental approach to this issue. This subject is so huge that it is not logical, or financially feasible, to do this all at once.

The Price of Victimhood:

NEW YORK POST: A prominent Columbia architecture professor punched a female university employee in the face at a Harlem bar during a heated argument about race relations, cops said yesterday.

Police busted Lionel McIntyre, 59, for assault yesterday after his bruised victim, Camille Davis, filed charges.

McIntyre and Davis, who works as a production manager in the school’s theater department, are both regulars at Toast, a popular university bar on Broadway and 125th Street, sources said.

The professor, who is black, had been engaged in a fiery discussion about “white privilege” with Davis, who is white, and another male regular, who is also white, Friday night at 10:30 when fists started flying, patrons said.

No reasonable person would deny that blacks have suffered racism in the past and probably, to a small extent, will always find racists if they look hard enough. No one ever talks about the black racists that are beginning to proliferate.

The strides that America has made in combating racism since the early 60’s are nothing short of phenomenal. No other country in the world has changed racial mores at a rate even approaching what we have done.

Unfortunately, too many blacks have bought into the opportunistic charlatans such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who continue to preach victimhood because that is how they become and stay wealthy. Does anyone really think that Sharpton, Jackson or Jeremiah Wright want racism to disappear? Not in our lifetime. That would force them to get a job.

If one wants to see what real racism is all about; I mean racism that has been institutionalized by our government for generations, one need to look no further than our Native American population.

Stupid Human Tricks:

NEWS OBSERVER: Selling candy didn’t raise much money last year, so a Goldsboro middle school is selling grades.

A $20 donation to Rosewood Middle School will get a student 20 test points - 10 extra points on two tests of the student’s choosing. That could raise a B to an A, or a failing grade to a D.

Susie Shepherd, the principal, said a parent advisory council came up with the idea, and she endorsed it. She said the council was looking for a new way to raise money.

“Last year they did chocolates, and it didn’t generate anything,” Shepherd said.

Shepherd rejected the suggestion that the school is selling grades. Extra points on two tests won’t make a difference in a student’s final grade, she said.

It’s wrong to think that “one particular grade could change the entire focus of nine weeks,” Shepherd said.

Susie Shepherd may have a future as Speaker of the House!

As my Grandfather used to observe; “Educated Fools”.

November 10, 2009 Breaking News

Quote of the Day:

“There are no absolute rules of conduct, either in peace or war. Everything depends on circumstances.”

Leon Trotsky (1879-1940) Communist revolutionary

Obama, Pelosi and Reid certainly have learned that lesson

Observations:

Well, Well. White House Communications Director, Anita Dunn, is leaving the White House. If you remember, Anita is the one that picked the fight with Fox News; a judgment lapse that is not going unrewarded. But we are used to judgment lapses, aren’t we.

The government says that the Ft. Hood shootings were not terrorism. They say they were aware of communication between the shooter and an Imam that runs a website denouncing U.S. policy but that there were no overt instructions or statements against the U.S.

However, they apparently were aware of the increasing unhappiness of the Major with the war, and they were aware of his religion. It is questionable judgment,

in my opinion, to send someone that has exhibited radicalization tendencies to fight in the very theatre about which he is upset.

By these moves, they may have forced the shooters hand in this violence.

Update: The Army psychiatrist suspected of killing 13 people at Fort Hood reportedly warned senior Army physicians in 2007 that the military should allow Muslim soldiers to be released as conscientious objectors instead of fighting in wars to avoid “adverse events.”

I rest my case.

More stupid Union tricks: The union that represents the grocery workers has stepped in it again, I think. This kind of stupidity is one of the things that tends to give one pause when considering the collective intelligence of union officials.

Apparently thinking that they have great leverage now, they have organized a strike against two of the large grocers, set to hit this week. It is over the grocers asking their employees to pay $5 to $15 per pay period (single or family) for their health insurance.

I should mention that this is the same union that used incredibly tacky ethics in their effort to unionize another grocer at the beginning of the year, causing the employees to come to the grocer’s defense.

In any case, the two grocers being threatened by a strike have hired about 6,000 temp employees in about 3 days in order to keep open if the strike happens. Union members are now becoming vocal about not wanting to strike. As one put it, we live paycheck to paycheck and we can’t afford this strike.

Who loses in this type of scenario? Why, the union members, of course.

Have you noticed how the yellow rats are kind of a one trick pony? The only way that they seem to be able to get their outlandish legislation passed is through bribes to everyone involved. Is it any wonder that their legislation usually turns out as an abortion?

I watched some clips of the Obama interview by ABC news. The one thought that kept intruding was how impressed I was on how smooth the interview went; as if it was scripted.

All of the politicos are now rushing to Ft. Hood for the photo ops available at the memorial service today.

Obama is now saying that we need to give Iran more time to decide whether they will comply with demands to turn over uranium to a third party.

Is that really good for world peace? Does it not just give Iran more time to perfect its new multiple warhead technology that Russia gave them? Does it not give

them more time to refine more uranium for building a nuclear warhead? Does it not give them time to put together a nuclear missile to give to al Qaida or Hamas?

Does it not force Israel to take unilateral action to protect itself from a nuclear strike?

In that event, does it not set up Obama to say that Israel started the war?

Global warming update: The NOAA just reported that the U.S. had the 3rd coldest October in its 115-year history; and the wettest.

Saturday Night Fever:

FINANCIAL TIMES: The first thing Barack Obama did late on Saturday night following the passage of the healthcare bill in the House of Representatives was to phone the heads of three industry lobby groups to thank them for their support. Not included on the list was the largest insurance lobby group, American Health Insurance Plans, which doggedly continues to oppose Democratic reform efforts. …

The final vote, which included a lone Republican in favour and 39 Democrats against, was achieved after a last-minute amendment that ruled out public funding for healthcare plans that offer coverage for abortion. That concession – and Mr. Obama’s personal appeal for Democratic unity in a visit to Capitol Hill on Saturday – enabled a sufficiently large bunch of wavering conservative Democrats to put their support behind the $1,200bn 10-year reform effort.

Keep in mind that the $1.2 Trillion cost is for about 6 years of actual coverage, not 10 years!

$2 Trillion people. Take that to the bank!

If your democratic representative voted against the bill, take the time to send them an email thanking them for watching out for you. If they didn’t, let them know that you will try to convince at least 10 people not to vote for them in the upcoming election. The same goes for republicans and independents.

Justice Dept. Asked For News Site’s Visitor Lists

In a case that raises questions about online journalism and privacy rights, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a formal request to an independent news site ordering it to provide details of all reader visits on a certain day. The grand jury subpoena also required the Philadelphia-based Indymedia.us Web site “not to disclose the existence of this request” unless authorized by the Justice Department, a gag order that presents an unusual quandary for any news organization. For further information on this article please cut and paste this URL in your browser. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/09/taking_liberties/entry5595506.shtml?tag=mncol;txt

I consider this really troubling and gives us a hint on the mindset and arrogance of the Justice department in general. The subpoena was unceremoniously withdrawn when challenged.

Where did high fives come from?

In the 1931 Rose Bowl game, “Five-Yard” Fogerty carried 25 times and gained exactly 5 yards on each carry. It was in that game that teammates celebrated the oddity of Fogerty’s achievement by slapping palms – this practice is now known as exchanging “high fives.” The results of that game were Alabama, 24, Washington State, 0. Fogerty played one year of professional football before breaking his leg in a skiing accident. He became a bank president in Wichita, Kansas. Sadly, he died five days before his retirement.

Don’t give up now,

Glenn

Correction:

It appears that my comment the other day regarding islamists in this country not likely to attack the citizens of this country was somewhat off the mark. I have included a URL of a filmstrip that is in French with English dubbing for you to watch.

It appears, according to a PEW Research poll, that about 25% of muslims under 30, now in this country, think that bombing and killing is justified in promoting and protecting their religion. That amounts to about 200,000 young people.

This is a war we didn’t even know that we were in!

What makes this scarier for me is that I am seeing the same tactics that these people use, being used by Obama. Also scary is the fact that Obama held a muslim prayer day at the White House, I believe it was September 25th, but no Christian programs will be observed, as far as I know. We have a closet muslim for a president folks.

Observations:

We are half way to government mandated health care, Folks. More back door deals with objectors.

AMA: Promised to kill the 21% reduction in physician’s rates for Medicare reimbursement in return for an endorsement. For one year? It will be back next year unless the law that contains it is changed. How stupid are these Doctors?

AARP: As I have pointed out before, AARP has gone from an organization for seniors to becoming an insurance company. Obama promised to kill the Medicare Advantage plan which will cost seniors more money but allow AARP to make more money on its medigap policies. If this galls you, join the alternative group, American Seniors Association. sbarton@americanseniors.org.

Drug Manufacturers: Obama limited the drug industry to $80 Billion in cuts (a drop in the bucket of an estimated almost $3Trillion cost) Obama also gave assurances that he would continue to bar lower cost Canadian sourced drugs from being purchase by citizens of the U.S.

Insurance Companies: On board initially because they were supposedly getting 40 million new customers, when the Senate Finance committee lowered the non-compliance fine against citizens from $3500 to $1500, the insurance companies jumped ship. They know that the $1500 fine per year is a drop in the bucket compared to what the people who carry the mandated insurance will be paying.

Medical Device Makers: Manufacturers of devices such as automated wheel chairs, pacemakers, arterial stents, prosthetic limbs, artificial knees and hips and other necessary accoutrements of healthcare were the only ones not to buckle under to Obama’s demands for support. The Senate Finance committee retaliated by putting a tax on these devices.

Senator Joe Lieberman said, today, that he would fight the bill to the end because this bill will financially break the country and lead to another deeper recession. What have I been saying for months, Folks? As job losses keep rising, we could see ourselves slipping into a full blown depression!

Third graders know that the last thing you want to do is to raise taxes during a recession. It tends to depress economic recovery.

The 4th grade class knows this. They don’t care. Our welfare is being sacrificed on the altar of the god of Marxism:

Do you realize that between this health care bill and the cap and tax bill, Obama is screwing around with at least 25% (if not more) of our entire economy? The taxes you will be paying, although you won’t know it because much of it will be hidden in price increases of everything that you buy (including electricity and gas), (cap and tax) will be astronomical.

Already, just with the additional tax it will take to run this new health care monstrosity, the marginal tax rates will be moving up to at least 45%. I would bet that they hit 60% within 5 years of the health care bill being put into effect. Obama has already thrown the promise not to raise taxes on people making under $250,000 under the bus.

Oh, and I would be willing to bet that not many of you live in a state, county and/or city that isn’t figuring out, right now, new taxes or increases in existing taxes to help cover its funding shortfall. So add that to your tax burden.

Do we all understand that our cost of insurance will actually increase under this program?

Obama busy making friends:

FINANCIAL TIMES: China on Friday accused the US of protectionist and biased trade policies less than a week before president Barack Obama’s first visit to Beijing.

In a stinging rebuke to Washington, China’s commerce ministry promised to take measures to protect its domestic industry after the US slapped anti-dumping duties on $2.6bn of Chinese steel pipe imports. The duties are part of a growing roster of trade conflicts between the two countries, despite a high-level meeting last week in China aimed at reducing tensions.

“China resolutely opposes such protectionist practices and will take steps to protect the interests of our domestic industries,” Yao Jian, ministry spokesman, said on its website.

“The US should give objective consideration to the fact that the fundamental problem of the US industries in question is the fall of demand brought about by the financial crisis.”

At the meeting last week, China agreed to allow US imports of pork and to relax restrictions on importing wind power components. However, Paulo Soares, head of the Chinese operations of Suzlon, the Indian wind power group, said the new rules would make little difference. “The big companies already have installed manufacturing operations and established supply chains, so it is not going to change anything,” he said.

Obama’s love affair with the Unions may be interfering with good judgment here.

And apparently Obama won a hollow victory in the Wind power supply deal. I can’t figure out if he is really trying on this stuff and is just a rube being played for a sucker or if he doesn’t really care and negotiates for stuff that in the end doesn’t mean anything, but uses them as a face saver.

More stimulus BS disproved:

SACRAMENTO BEE: Up to one-fourth of the 110,000 jobs reported as saved by federal stimulus money in California probably never were in danger, a Bee review has found.

California State University officials reported late last week that they saved more jobs with stimulus money than the number of jobs saved in Texas – and in 44 other states.

In a required state report to the federal government, the university system said the $268.5 million it received in stimulus funding through October allowed it to retain 26,156 employees.

That total represents more than half of CSU’s statewide work force. However, university officials confirmed Thursday that half their workers were not going to be laid off without the stimulus dollars.

“This is not really a real number of people,” CSU spokeswoman Clara Potes-Fellow said. “It’s like a budget number.”

Our universities apparently have no problem lying to the general public, either.

Sleep Well; Congress is:

POLITICO: Talk about bad timing.

As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.

Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires. That’s 44 percent of the body – compared to about 1 percent of Americans overall.

CRP says California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa is the richest lawmaker on Capitol Hill, with a net worth estimated at about $251 million. Next in line: Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), worth about $244.7 million; Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), worth about $214.5 million; Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), worth about $209.7 million; and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), worth about $208.8 million.

All told, at least seven lawmakers have net worth’s greater than $100 million, according to the Center’s 2008 figures.

This woman is like a recurring bad dream:

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The U.S. Homeland Security secretary says she is working to prevent a possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment after the shootings at Fort Hood in Texas.

Janet Napolitano says her agency is working with groups across the United States to try to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following Thursday’s rampage by Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Apparently, Americans can fend for themselves as far as Homeland Security is concerned. She is moving another 350 Border Patrol agents from the Mexican border to the Canadian border this year.

The shootings left 13 people dead and 29 wounded.

Napolitano was in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday for talks with security officials and a meeting with women university students in Abu Dhabi.

I think the backlash should be against the damn government that is sacrificing American lives in the name of political correctness. We find out now that the army knew that Hasan was trying to contact al Qaida and that he had told others that he had become radicalized. And yet they didn’t do anything about it. What part of the word WAR don’t they understand?

November 7, 2009 Breaking News

The attachment today is a letter from the Joint Committee on Taxation regarding the civil and criminal penalties provided for in the Pelosi bill for not carrying insurance.

Reader Feedback: (Regarding my sociopath comment yesterday)

It’s like being in an old Twilight Zone episode! All you have to do is listen to Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and Gates - they are TELLING you what to believe - it is just when you get your eyes off THEM that you get confused because facts don’t line up.

It is standard sociopathic stuff, they have made up a reality - i.e. there are millions of jobs which have been created and there are millions of jobs which have been saved, you can spend $10 for every $1 you have and an election which was a major loss for their party was really a great success. You just have to remember to believe and you won’t have trouble understanding! Thanx Diane

Quote of the Day:

“About all I can say for the United States Senate is that it opens with a prayer and closes with an investigation.”

Will Rogers (1879-1935) US actor, humorist

Observations:

Barack Obama will be in the House on Saturday to threaten recalcitrant democrat lawmakers with the political equivalent of deboning if they fail to vote for his bill which no one has read and no one knows how much it will cost.

Great News: Cuba announced that they have removed potatoes and peas from the monthly ration book in a tentative step to eventually eliminate all food rationing in the future. Now Cubans can buy all of the potatoes and peas that they want!

What a concept! Ain’t Marxism wonderful? We will be there soon.

I won’t spend much time on the Ft. Hood deal as everyone else is covering it. I am just beginning to realize that it seems like devout muslims answer to every obstacle they encounter (including someone who doesn’t want to become a muslim) is to start killing people.

I realize that it is dangerous to make generalizations about groups of people, and while the majority of muslims in this country will not take up arms against the citizens, I believe that there is a good chance that they will aid and abet those who do.

I watched the head of CAIR, the largest muslim organization in the U.S. refuse, for 15 minutes on TV one day, to condemn the torture and beheading of reporter Daniel Pearl.

Given the presence of CAIR goon squads at their muslim festivals, which I believe are used to recruit disillusioned youth, to keep all journalists and others with cameras from documenting the proceedings, logic dictates that I consider these people a threat to the health and safety of non-muslim American citizens. I have seen them assault reporters and take their cameras away by use of force.

One more observation on the Ft. Hood and Orlando tragedies. These people do not just come out one day and go nuts. They usually show signs of erratic behavior prior to going nuts. People notice it but do not report it. Keep your eyes open, people.

I saw a close up photo of Pelosi this morning. It appears that the Botox is beginning to fail. Poor girl.

Obamacare’s Nasty Surprise:

WASHINGTON POST: Obamacare could have the unintended consequence of raising health insurance premiums and causing a decline in the number of people with insurance. Well, Duuuhhhh!

Here’s why: A key feature of the House and Senate health bills would prevent insurance companies from denying coverage to anyone with preexisting conditions. The

new coverage would start immediately, and the premium could not reflect the individual’s health condition.

This well-intentioned feature would provide a strong incentive for someone who is healthy to drop his or her health insurance, saving the substantial premium costs. After all, if serious illness hit this person or a family member, he could immediately obtain coverage. As healthy individuals decline coverage in this way, insurance companies would come to have a sicker population. The higher cost of insuring that group would force insurers to raise their premiums. (Separate accident policies might develop to deal with the risk of high-cost care after accidents when there is insufficient time to buy insurance.)

The higher premium level would cause others who are currently insured to drop coverage, pushing premiums even higher. The result would be a spiral of rising premiums and shrinking numbers of insured.

Have I not been calling the 4th grade class the national poster children for the Law of Unintended Consequences since they came to power? Now the left wing Washington Post appears to be catching on. Wow!

The greatest single reason that insurance works in any form, at an affordable cost, is that the cost is spread over a huge pool of premium payers and only some of them at any given time will be using the services. The rest will be paying premiums and be in good health. It is kind of like Vegas. They live off the “Vigorish”. It’s just a big betting system with both you and the insurance company making the opposite bets.

Freddie Tanks:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE - News; the second largest provider of U.S. residential mortgage funding, on Friday posted a loss of $5 billion in the third quarter and predicted it would need more government support amid a “prolonged deterioration” in housing.

Obama Quote of the Day:

NEWSMAX: “I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today.”

“I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It’s good to see you.”

Ah, the dangers of giving shout outs without a teleprompter. Crow is not a Medal of Honor recipient. As noted by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society:

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often called the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Crow’s name is not included on the Society’s Medal of Honor recipient list. He was, however, awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in August.

For a guy that the main stream media calls “cerebral” he sure tends to be a doofus.

Obama says, “Don’t jump to conclusions”:

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama said Friday the entire nation is grieving for those slain at Fort Hood, and he urged people not to jump to conclusions while law enforcement officers investigate the shootings.

Obama met Friday morning with FBI Director Robert Mueller and other federal leaders to get an update on what they’ve learned. Thirteen people were killed and 30 others injured in the shooting rampage at the Texas Army post on Thursday. The suspected shooter is an Army psychiatrist; his motive remains unclear.

Well, that is probably good advice. However, I do not remember any president ever commenting on mass murder except to convey condolences to family and friends of victims and to vow that the murderers would get caught.

Do you suppose that his caution has anything to do with the shooter being a fellow muslim?

Expect Obama and staff to be in full damage control mode.

Update:

NBC: CHICAGO–…After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a “shout-out” to “Dr. Joe Medicine Crow — that Congressional Medal of Honor winner.” Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

Have you noticed that the Chicago media, despite orders from their corporate bosses, tend to be quite harsh on Obama. You suppose that they have a better perspective than we do?

How expensive is rust?

From bridges to rebar, rust is everywhere. According to a recent study, the annual cost of metallic corrosion in the U.S. is approximately $300 billion. The report, by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America, Washington, D.C., estimated that about one-third of that cost could be avoided through broader application of corrosion-resistant material and “best anti-corrosive practice” from design through maintenance.

And this doesn’t begin to take into consideration the cost of treating the rust that affects old guys like me!

Short email just to let him know that I haven’t gone away:

Dear Representative Pastor,

I am amazed as I watch the progressive portion of the party rush towards the cliff like frenzied lemmings. It is like they recognize it and don’t care that the cliff represents the end of their tomorrows.

Even one of the party’s staunchest supporters, the Washington Post, is beginning to have concerns about this tyranny that a minority of the party is trying to push on to this country. It is time to stand up and be counted.

I have always considered you more of a pragmatist than an ideologue. I could be wrong. We will see.

You know as well as I do that this bill has nothing to do with health care; it has everything to do with gaining an unhealthy control of a large segment of the government, and thus the people.

Is that what you stand for Mr. Pastor? Are you too, a Marxist?

I would really like to know.

Sincerely,

I will print the answer when I get it. He usually thanks me for inquiring about the digital TV switchover.

TELEPHONE TEA PARTY: CALL CONGRESS TODAY TO KILL THE PELOSI/REID OBAMACARE BILL: (202) 224-3121

I forgot to thank Vicky yesterday for sending me that article from Pravda that I attached to yesterday’s newsletter.

Observations:

It’s a good bet that in the coming days, Oprah Winfrey and David Zaslav, Chief of Discovery Communications will make a joint announcement that Oprah will end her talk show from Chicago when the contract runs out and move it the Oprah Winfrey cable Network (OWN).

This may be more earth shaking for some people than our nation going Marxist.

Amazement is beginning to overtake me a little as I watch the yellow rats literally work themselves into a frenzy over getting the health care and cap and tax bill passed.

It is beginning to appear to me that, much as lemmings, the ideologues among the yellow rats have thrown caution (and logic) to the

wind and are rushing headlong for the cliff without giving their fate, the fate of rational democrats or our fate, a second thought.

I suggest that it would be in order for other dems and members of congress to get vaccinations to ward off this ideological case of the rabies.

We knew it was coming. Unemployment has now surpassed 10% (10.2% to be exact). This is the highest unemployment since Jimmy Carter was president.

And I still see no programs aimed at job creation and I see no backing off programs that will continue to cause further gains in joblessness.

A New Zealand mayor has ticked everyone off by suggesting that the country pay some of the “appalling lower class” people not to breed. Give them a $10,000 payment and sterilize them. He may not keep his job through this one.

New Zealand is right up at the top in regard to deaths of children due to maltreatment so the guy may be speaking out of frustration.

Hmm. I wonder if that would work with yellow rat dems? Naah.

By the way, were you aware that part of the reason that the swine flu vaccine is so scarce is that a lot of it is going to Europe. It seems that a new process to make vaccine is being used by a couple of manufacturers which speeds up the process significantly. The rest of the manufacturers are using slow techniques that are 50 years old.

The problem is that the FDA won’t or hasn’t approved the manufacturing process yet, so the manufacturers are shipping their vaccine to European countries. YOUR GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE IN ACTION! Barbara Boxer has passed

the cap and tax bill for a floor discussion without any minority members signing on. That is a first folks. She likes it that way. So much cleaner.

All you folks in Barbara Boxer land; Carly Fiorino, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, has thrown her hat into the ring for Boxer’s seat next election.

Gov. David Paterson of New York, emboldened by the lack of results engendered by Obama in the New Jersey race, is now planning to take out massive ads to press his campaign for re-election; against Obama’s instructions, no less.

You may remember that Obama told him not to run again because Obama said he couldn’t beat some republican challengers.

Take that Hussein!

I wonder if it is a good idea to allow all of this muslim immigration. The guy at Fort Hood, I am willing to bet went on the rampage because he was being sent to Afghanistan and he didn’t want to be on the opposite side of fellow muslims.

Their fundamental religion puts them at odds with anyone who is not muslim, lip service to the contrary, notwithstanding.

Dems guilty of Widespread Voter Fraud: (In my opinion)

WASHINGTON (AP)– Senate Democrats have blocked a GOP attempt to require next year’s census forms to ask people whether they are a U.S. citizen.

The proposal by Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter was aimed at excluding immigrants from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state. Critics said Vitter’s plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive. They also said that it’s long been settled law that the apportionment of congressional seats is determined by the number of people living in each state, regardless of whether they are citizens. A separate survey already collects the data.

The plan fell after a 60-39 procedural vote made it ineligible for attachment to a bill funding the census.

This is tantamount to stocking voting districts with illegals to boost the democrat numbers in congress. This is absolutely illegal in my opinion.

Once the census goes down, all of the Senators that voted this proposal down should be charged criminally.

The Yellow Rats get creative:

FOX NEWS: WASHINGTON - You’re afraid your cancer is back, and a health insurance company just turned you down.

Under the health care bills in Congress, you could apply for coverage through a new high-risk pool that President Barack Obama promises would immediately start serving patients with pre-existing medical problems.

Wait a minute…You may have to be uninsured for six months to qualify.

“If you are a cancer patient and have cancer now, you can’t wait six months to go into a plan because your condition can go from bad to death,” said Stephen Finan, a policy expert with the American Cancer Society.

Now, concerns are being raised about the design of the high-risk pools. In addition to the six-month wait, there’s a more fundamental issue — whether $5 billion set aside for the three-year program is enough.

Obama credits his Republican presidential rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, for the risk-pools idea. But when the GOP candidate proposed it in 2008, the estimated cost was $7 billion to $10 billion a year.

“If you are somebody with cancer or a heart condition who needs immediate coverage and immediate treatment, that’s not very helpful,” said Karen Pollitz, a Georgetown University health policy professor.

One has to wonder about the mind set of some liberals that allow them to continue to worship these louts in the face of overwhelming evidence that they are liars, cheats and perhaps, biologically different.

Vote on Pelosi health care comes before cost estimate:

THE HILL: Medicare’s chief actuary told The Hill on Thursday that it is unclear if he will have a cost estimate of the House healthcare reform bill before a scheduled vote this weekend. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has put the cost of the measure at $894 billion over 10 years, noting that it would reduce the deficit by $30 billion over the same time period. Republicans believe the price tag of the bill is much higher.

But it doesn’t sound like Rick Foster, the chief actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will deliver his cost estimate before Saturday’s vote.

Why do you folks suppose that is? Could it be that Pelosi doesn’t want the cost known before the vote because it might kill it?

I would be willing to bet that the true cost of this health care over 10 years of full coverage is over $2 Trillion!

A Rat by any other name…:

THE WEEKLY STANDARD: Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was “absolutely” committed to doing so.

House members are still negotiating important issues in the bill–whether it will provide taxpayer-funding for abortions, for example. Pelosi is pushing for a Saturday House vote, and a number of big changes will be introduced, likely less than 24 hours before the vote takes place (if in fact it does). The Rules Committee hasn’t yet released its resolution, or rule, that must be passed before the bill can move from committee to the floor. The rule will set the terms of debate and determine what amendments are in order.

It just blows my mind. She is not even embarrassed that she is caught in a lie. Just business as usual for her. Yellow Rats do lie…all of the time.

The term sociopath is coming to mind more and more.

Uh Oh:

GUARDIAN, U.K.–The UN’s nuclear watchdog has asked Iran to explain evidence suggesting that Iranian scientists have experimented with an advanced nuclear warhead design, the Guardian has learned.

The very existence of the technology, known as a “two-point implosion” device, is officially secret in both the US and Britain, but according to previously unpublished documentation in a dossier compiled by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iranian scientists may have tested high-explosive components of the design. The development was today described by nuclear experts as “breathtaking” and has added urgency to the effort to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis.

The agency has also asked Iran to explain evidence that a Russian weapons expert helped Iranian technicians to master synchronised high-explosive detonations.

Obama is such a rube. These guys have been playing him like a bass fiddle. Through his ignorance and arrogance he has single handedly primed the pump for Armageddon in the middle east.

It is doubtful that Israel will be able to hold off on military action against Iran now. The results are incalculable for the middle east.

And it looks like Obama’s ol’ buddy, Putin, is guilty of pushing the technology along.

And I was just worried about Obama taking over the U.S. and making it a Marxist dictatorship, not starting world war III!

Thousands rally against health plan:

FOX NEWS: Republicans host a rally against Democrats’ health care reform, calling on those who attend to track down their elected representatives in Congress and put pressure on them to think twice about voting for the more than $1 trillion health care overhaul.

As a crowd of protesters shouted “kill the bill,” House Republicans on Thursday rallied opposition against the Democrats’ health care legislation, even as President Obama touted two major endorsements from doctors and seniors groups.

The president interrupted the daily press briefing Thursday to note that the American Medical Association and AARP had just endorsed House Democrats’ health care plan. AARP is throwing the seniors under the bus for the promise of billion$ in health care commissions from the new plan. Obama made back door deals with them and the AMA.

If you aren’t in Washington, it is incumbent upon you to contact your representatives and to talk to friends and get them to protest to their congressional representatives.

Noise, Noise and more Noise:

ABC NEWS: It is protest day, for the Left and the Right, on Capitol Hill.

First out of the gate - 9 Protesters backing a universal health care system briefly occupied Sen. Joe Lieberman’s office this morning.

Protesters were arrested, one by one, and dragged out of his office amid chants of “Everyone in and no-one out, universal healthcare now!” and “Represent Connecticut, not AETNA!”

The whole affair, from occupation to final arrest, lasted 40 minutes.

Lieberman, the Connecticut Independent, has said he will join Republicans to filibuster a Democratic health bill if it contains a public health insurance option to operate alongside the private insurance market.

I think it is a very good bet that if you asked these demonstrators about the details of the health care bill, they would be stuck for an answer.

However, Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

Hillary Mucks it up again:

CAIRO (AP)— Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tense exchanges with Pakistani civilians and Arab diplomats over a harrowing week of foreign stops exposed the confining limits of her office.

On her most ambitious and contentious overseas trip as secretary of state, Clinton had to resort to damage control after she appeared to mangle the Obama administration’s message on frozen Mideast peace talks.

Too early to tell if she really screwed up or not. It does appear that the Pakistanis etal were not impressed with her message, or to paraphrase Harry S. Truman, they didn’t think it was worth “a warm bucket of spit.”

Given the fact that Bill is still alive after countless screaming threats may have removed that edge of the danger from the threats.

Don’t stop now, folks

Glenn

Today’s other attachment is an article from Pravda that pretty well explains how Russia views our flight to Marxism. And it says that Putin warned Obama about Marxism, saying that it doesn’t work. No political correctness here.

Reader Feed Back:

“In reference to the quote from today’s news letter, I have to put in my two

cents worth even at the risk of being the unpopular voice.

Personally, I think it is great that they limit people to having three animals.

If you feel you have to have more than that then you pay for it. I wish the

local cities, especially Scottsdale, would limit the number of cats a household

can have and require that they be confined or leashed just like a dog.” …

Thanx Dale. Point taken.

Actually, I think more than two cats in a household is a crime but the point of the article was to point out the hypocrisy of the libs. The problem with most of us is that we don’t tend to think about the nut-jobs out there that make it difficult not to have regulations that infringe on personal freedoms.

Quote of the Day:

“There is no such thing as a little freedom. Either you are all free, or you are not free.”

Walter Cronkite, American News Anchor (1916-2009)

Take it to the bank, folks

Quote of the Day II:

“From our perspective, we won last night,”

Nancy Pelosi, Mouth of the House

Observations:

I mentioned yesterday that I have been harping on the republicans for months to come up with their own health care bill. Well, they did and I was hoisted by my own petard.

I was criticized, as well I should have been, for not formulating what I believed to be a reasonable health care bill. Instead, I have been operating under the theory that I will know it when I see it: Probably not good enough. (In my defense, they are paid to do this, I don’t)

In any case, while not being an expert, by any stretch of the imagination, in this field. I will try to put some reasonable planks together as a starting point for health care reform. I will let you know when I have some and will then ask you for your input.

Speaking of harping on things for a long time, long time readers will remember that I have been raising hell about the Obama health care plan not being about health care but being about control of the American citizenry. Well, guess what!

Fox news has finally picked up on that and just yesterday, I heard that they were talking about the control issue. That does not mean that they haven’t talked about it before, it just means that I just heard about it yesterday.

Did you know that we are in the second part of the health care bill right now?

The first part was the health care rationing board, which was slipped into the stimulus bill. (Now do you understand the hurry in passing these bills?) In any case, not only has the commission been created, but also Obama has already appointed the 15 members. They are just waiting for the health care bill to be passed.

It now appears that the health care bill will also force doctors to violate their Hippocratic oath. The rationing board will be calling the shots for patient treatment.

Oh, and you thought there was doctor/patient confidentiality? Not anymore. The government will be in there between you and your doctor and the bureaucrats will have full access to your medical records so that they may revue your treatment to make sure it complies with government guidelines.

We really are a bunch of chuckleheads if we let this happen.

The North Koreans and Iran are teaching Obama a new lesson. That lesson, in a word is; to negotiate without leverage is tantamount to begging, and just about as effective.

While this is a little off to the side of this newsletter I would like to expound on another pet peeve of mine. (After all, public service is part of the mission statement)

That peeve is Run flat tires. Early readers will remember my rant when I went to replace my aging conveyance and discovered, much to my shock, that my chosen replacement hasn’t been available since 2005 with standard tires and wheels.

For new readers, the reason that I am against run-flat tires is because they are a rip-off, in my opinion. My reasons are as follows: High cost-$350-$600 per tire; special wheels and equipment to change the tires; a puncture will void the speed rating and maybe the warranty on the tire and many establishments will not repair a punctured tire because of the liability involved; 20,000 mile life if you’re lucky and lousy performance. (Word has it that they have been improved lately as far as their performance is concerned). Still, a whole bunch of negative.

Add to that, you have about 50 miles to drive on the tire before it starts to go away. Try to find someone with the equipment to replace one of those tires in Kansas, let alone the Dakotas, Wyoming, etc.

Well, AutoWeek just reported on their first quarter of driving their long term BMW; with run flat tires. Hitting a pothole or two in Michigan caused an ongoing saga of a couple of weeks, which included replacing the right front tire twice and

straightening both front wheels for a cost of around $1,400. (Did I mention that the sidewalls are very stiff in these tires, transferring road shocks to the wheels and the occupants).

So I rest my case. You may want to reconsider buying a used or new car with run-flat tires.

Pelosi is going to get a vote on the health care bill by this Saturday, she says. Keep up the pressure.

Did you hear about the 5 seniors (including an 83 year old nun) that broke into a nuclear arms facility the other night and got within a stone’s throw of the building housing about 2,000 nuclear warheads? They reportedly wandered around the facility for about 4 hours before cutting into a fence next to the storage bunker that finally set off an alarm.

And you want these guys running your health care?

From the House Republican Leader:

…Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page government takeover of health care does just that. On line 17, p. 110, section 222 under “Abortions for which Public Funding is Allowed” the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run plan. The Speaker’s plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered in the Exchange covers abortions.

What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be charged of all enrollees in the government-run plan. It’s right there on line 16, page 96, section 213, under “Insurance Rating Rules.” The premium will be paid into a U.S. Treasury account - and these federal funds will be used to pay for the abortion services….

So we all will be paying for abortions whether we want to or not. I sure would have liked the opportunity to pay for an abortion for Nancy Pelosi’s mother.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Eugene V. Debs (1855-1926) US Socialist Leader

“Chicago is the product of modern capitalism, and, like other great commercial centers, is unfit for human habitation.” ————————- “I am not a… leader. I don’t want you to follow me or anything else. If you are looking for a Moses to lead you out of the… wilderness, you will stay right where you are. I would not lead you into this promised land if I could, because if I could lead you in, someone else could lead you out.” ————————- “I have no country to fight for; my country is the earth, and I am a citizen of the world.” ————————

“I’d rather vote for something I want and not get it than vote for something I don’t want, and get it.” ————————- “The most heroic word in all languages is revolution.” ————————- “Those who produce should have, but we know that those who produce the most - that is, those who work hardest, and at the most difficult and most menial tasks, have the least.” ————————- “When great changes occur in history, when great principles are involved, as a rule the majority are wrong.”

Same tired old crap

Pelosi really believes that they won!

Miller says that she is a lizard. Shades of “V”. (She looks like a really bad imitation of Conan Obrien here, to me)

Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) — Undeterred by Republican election triumphs in Virginia and New Jersey, Democratic leaders put the U.S. House on a path to vote as early as Saturday on the most sweeping overhaul of health-care policy in four decades.

The election of Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia won’t affect how the House proceeds on legislation to extend insurance to 36 million people and create a government- run program to compete with private insurers, lawmakers said.

Folks, if there was ever a time to get off your collective butts, now is the time. Email your representatives, particularly your democratic reps and tell them if the health care bill passes, so will they, in 2010!

More trouble:

MADISON, Wis. (Reuters) - A year after his historic election, President Barack Obama sought to remind Americans on Wednesday the biggest problems he is grappling with — from the economy to the war in Afghanistan — are the legacy of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

With his approval ratings down from once-lofty levels and Tuesday’s Democratic election losses raising questions about his political clout, Obama held no special ceremony to mark the anniversary of his election as America’s first black president.

He instead traveled to Wisconsin to appear before a friendly audience in a school gymnasium and promote education as a pillar of his economic recovery efforts.

Obama was elected on a promise of sweeping change after eight years under Bush, but many Americans are increasingly expressing impatience that his pledge has yet to bear fruit.

Why Wisconsin? Keep in mind, a former Wisconsin Governor once described Madison as 30 square miles surrounded by reality.

Make a plan, Read a book:

Fourteen years before the Titanic sailed on an April day in 1912 on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, a novel titled “Futility” was published about an unsinkable and glamorous Atlantic liner, the largest in the world.

Like the Titanic, the fictional vessel was triple-screw and could make 24-25 knots; at 800 feet, it was a little shorter than the Titanic, but at 70,000 tons, its displacement was 4,000 tons greater.

Like the Titanic’s, its passenger list was the crème de la crème and there were not enough lifeboats on board. On a cold April night, the fictional “unsinkable” vessel strikes an iceberg and glides to the bottom of the Atlantic. The name of this liner, in the story by Morgan Robertson, was “The Titan.”

November 4, 2009 Breaking News

The other attachment is a current list of some of the ridiculous stimulus projects that are piling up using your hard-earned tax money. Thought you would like to see where your money is going. I think I would rather have mine back in my pocket.

Quote of the Day:

“If the Obama administration can’t run the epidemiological equivalent of a two-car funeral, how can the government do an adequate job of managing the nation’s healthcare system? “

Dick Morris, former Clinton campaign manager and pundit

Observations:

Will wonders never cease? I have been writing letters to the republicans for the past several months asking them where their health care bill is. Well, they finally have drafted one which is something like 230 pages long.

From what little that I have seen, it still needs to address some other issues but it does attack some of the abuses in the industry, just not enough of them.

Well, the dems got their fanny kicked in Virginia, Obama’s back yard. Some are saying that this is a repudiation of the liberals while others say that it is just normal. Obama basically threw the dem governor under the bus. He publicly disparaged him and the conduct of his campaign because Deeds wouldn’t identify himself as an Obama democrat. It appears to be a warning to the Blue Dogs for next year that if they don’t toe the Obama line, he will go after them at election time. That said, this represents a 27-point swing in voter preference in a year.

New Jersey, however, was a lot closer. Obama spent $3,000,000 there in the last couple of days before the election and made personal appearances for Corzine. Corzine is a buddy of Obama and former head of Goldman Sachs, the Wall Street Banker. Corzine reportedly spent $120 Million of his own money.

What also makes this an eye opener is that New Jersey hasn’t elected a statewide republican since 1997. This is also a double-digit swing of 15-17 points.

I think Corzine’s loss may particularly troublesome for Obama, given the full court press and the money that he brought in at the last minute.

Exit polls listed the economy, high property taxes (the highest) and government/union corruption as major issues. Christie prosecuted 120 state and local officials for corruption as U.S. Attorney.

And Robert Gibbs says that Obama was not watching the returns. I guess if I were Obama, I wouldn’t be watching them either.

When all is said and done, I don’t think that this will have the lasting impact that the republicans hope that it will, but I also believe that it is a message that the democrats ignore at their own peril.

John Stossel; you remember him? The guy that was fired by CBS by conducting a non-partisan show on the health care plan. John is now with Fox news after a two-month stint with ABC. In any case, the New York Times went after him because he gave a speech to a group called Americans for Prosperity. (Never heard of them) The interesting thing was that when he was ABC for the previous two months, he gave three speeches to the same group and no one seemed to care. Can you spell HIT LIST?

As a newspaper, the New York Times is good only for wrapping dead fish!

After months of my complaining that the administration has been ignoring job creation, at least the media is finally getting the message. Exit polls in New Jersey and Virginia both listed the economy as the top concern by a wide margin.

Last night, Haley Barbour, governor of Alabama mentioned that the economy during the Clinton years didn’t start picking up until the health care initiative was laid to rest. (Something else that I have been complaining about)

The people get something that the administration and congress doesn’t get. If you are starving to death or freezing to death, all of this other crap means nothing!

As I have repeatedly said, folks. This isn’t about health care, it is about control. And the administration, by its continued refusal to address job creation has shown their disdain for the welfare of the average person.

As the New York Times said (stupidly) a couple of days ago, the yellow rat dems are reveling in all of this misery because it allows them to advance their big government concept with less opposition. Which makes the administration’s refusal to address job issues all the more suspect!

As if there weren’t enough problems facing the people of this country, Dudley, Massachusetts just passed a law that makes it illegal to own more than 3 cats without first buying a kennel license. The fine for non-compliance is $100 per day.

You gotta love those compassionate libs.

Dems getting Desperate:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. employers who tell workers to stay home when they are sick will have to give them paid time off for up to five days under new federal legislation proposed on Tuesday.

The emergency law would cover pandemic H1N1 flu or any other infectious disease, said California Representative George Miller, a Democrat who chairs the House Education and Labor Committee and who introduced the bill.

The yellow rats are really getting scared if the number and size of the bribes to the populace are any indication. Never count them out, though.

Sharp writer sees the correlation: (This is great)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care. The news media swoons in admiration — one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: “Why don’t you show some respect?!” The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader’s origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: “Embracing change is never easy.” So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait — did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who’s come here to eat us?

Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it’s also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president’s supporters and delight his detractors.

I wouldn’t have noticed the similarity of the show currently being shown on ABC, to the Obamamania. Now I am beginning to wonder if Obama might be a lizard, also. I think I will start watching.

China is Rattling BIG Sabers:

FINANCIAL TIMES: China’s air force chief has called military competition in space “inevitable”, a departure from Beijing’s past insistence that it is not pursuing space programmes for military purposes.

The remarks by General Xu Qiliang, head of the People’s Liberation Army air force, published in several state media, are a reminder of another area of potential future rivalry between the US and China. In addition, they indicate increased competition within China’s military.

Maybe, we had better save some of our money to build some anti-China weapons.

North Korea gives Obama a new test:

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea claimed Tuesday that it has successfully weaponized more plutonium for atomic bombs, a day after warning Washington to agree quickly to direct talks or face the prospect of a growing North Korean nuclear arsenal.

The announcement underlined Pyongyang’s impatience over securing one-on-one talks with Washington, as well as the difficulties in dealing with a regime that resorts to threats and provocations to get what it wants.

North Korea appears to be attempting to stampede Obama into making a rash decision or two. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if China weren’t calling the shots behind the scenes to see how Obama will react.

Dollar climbs on the Down Elevator:

FINANCIAL TIMES: Gold prices on Tuesday surged to an all-time high after India’s central bank bought 200 tonnes of the precious metal, swapping dollars for bullion as the country’s finance minister warned the economies of the US and Europe had “collapsed”.

India’s decision to exchange $6.7bn for gold equivalent to 8 per cent of world annual mine production sent the strongest signal yet that Asian countries were moving away from the US currency.

“This is a landmark trade,” said Jonathan Spall a director at Barclays Capital and a gold specialist. “Central banks are conservative institutions and India’s move is a sign for other central banks and sovereign wealth funds that were contemplating buying gold.”

New Delhi’s acquisition came months after China revealed it had almost doubled its gold reserves in the past six years.

Traders and mining executives tipped China, Saudi Arabia and Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds as candidates to snap up the rest of the gold the IMF plans to sell.

I have been warning against this for the last 6 months, at least, and it appears that the world is beginning to run from the dollar. This is really not good news, Folks.

More trouble for Israel:

JERUSALEM — (AP) Hamas militants in Gaza have successfully test-fired an Iranian rocket able to reach Israel’s largest urban center, the country’s military intelligence chief said Tuesday.

Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin told parliament’s foreign affairs and defense committee that the rocket could fly 37 miles (60 kilometers), and strike metropolitan Tel Aviv, Israeli media reported.

Until now, rockets fired from Gaza have reached up to 25 miles (40 kilometers), putting one-eighth of Israel’s population within rocket range.

Aside from the human devastation and misery over there, do you folks have any idea the dislocation that even a limited war in the Middle East would cause this country? Especially in our weakened condition.

Update:

SPHERE: WASHINGTON (Nov. 3) — It was billed as a “major speech” following up President Obama’s promise last June in Cairo of a “new beginning” with the Muslim world. As soon as it ended, though, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was embarking on a hastily arranged detour to Cairo to salve Arab anger over her comments over the weekend.

Arab officials who hailed Obama in June for speaking of the Palestinians’ “daily humiliations” under occupation said Clinton’s words echoed those by previous U.S. administrations that sided with Israel. On Monday, she read a statement reiterating that “the United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

Obama wasn’t kidding when he said we were a muslim nation.

Further Update:

JERUSULEM POST: Special Navy forces discovered weapons and ammunition on a cargo ship overnight Tuesday, after boarding the Francop some 100 nautical miles west of Israel flying an Antiguan flag.

Defense officials said the 140-meter long Francop, captured near Cyprus, was carrying arms sent by Iran and destined for Syria and Hizbullah.

More than 60 tons of weaponry were on board, in dozens of containers. The Francop carried hundreds of containers.

A significant amount of 122 mm. Katyusha rockets, likely made in Iran, assault rifles, mortar shells and grenades were found on board.

Keep after your Congress, people

Definition for new readers: Yellow rat democrats, as opposed to Blue Dog Democrats, or just Democrats, are so named because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. Yellow Rat Democrats draw primarily from the so-called “progressive” democrats.
