Today’s attachment is a commentary on Barney Frank’s new financial regulation bill. You will not only be surprised, but shocked. You will even wonder why you didn’t know that you had all that money that they plan to lift from your pocketbook.

For some reason, I thought that this might be apropos today…

Observations:

And if things weren’t bad enough, it now appears that everyone will have to prepare themselves to appear nude when they go through the body scanners at the airports.

Up until “Big Sis” was awakened from her bureaucratic reverie on Christmas Day, only newsletter writers and other political enemies were forced to endure the indignities of the full body scan at airports. Well, us and little old ladies in wheel chairs, so that no one could claim they were profiling.

The folks at Wikipedia appear to be a little too “on the ball”. Shortly after it was reported that Rush Limbaugh was rushed to a hospital in Hawaii, Wikipedia updated their website with the news that Limbaugh was dead.

I think that is just being a little too prepared… or wishful thinking?

The best laid plans and all of that… Turns out that a planned “scream in” at the Copenhagen climate talks, by demonstrators protesting the lack of a definitive agreement on global warming, failed to materialize due to a blizzard which kept most of the demonstrators at home. The 6 demonstrators that did show up quickly packed up their bullhorns and posters and headed for the shed.

I love irony…

While you weren’t looking, oil edged up to nearly $80 a barrel today.

One million people are expected in Times Square tonight. You talk about the mother of all soft targets! Authorities are understandably jittery and have banned all backpacks. They probably should ban all burkas too, but that would be profiling, wouldn’t it.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now we are finding out that Goldman Sachs, personal bankers for Obama and Geithner, were running an offshore Ponzi scheme from the Cayman Islands, which led to hundreds of billions of losses for investors.

Apparently, while they were selling billions of dollars of shaky mortgaged back securities to investors, they were betting that the securities would tank and were selling billions of dollars of credit default swaps to other investors which insured against those very losses. It is said that, in some cases, they sold the mortgage-backed securities and the credit default swaps to the same investors! Apparently, the credit default swaps didn’t show up on the financial statements of the investors.

Word has it that Goldman recognized the potential devastation in the subprime mortgage backed securities early on and covered themselves with selling credit default swaps and moving out of the MBS market before competitors did.

My question is, are these so-called sophisticated investors greedy or just plain stupid? Longtime readers know that I am no fan of Wall Street, but that’s for another time.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now the Treasury Tinkerbelle, Timothy Geithner, is giving the ailing lender GMAC another $3.8 Billion to shore them up. Even with this, analysts say that the company isn’t out of the woods due to their portfolio of residential loans.

But what’s a mother to do? The government already owns over 56% of GMAC. Somehow, that fact escaped my notice when it happened. If you read the attachment

today, you already know that Tinkerbelle is a veritable piker compared to Barney Frank.

And if things weren’t bad enough, Iranian authorities have said they will show no mercy to demonstrators against the government. They then proceeded to use police vehicles to run into crowds of protestors.

They have also started rounding up relatives of known protestors, including the sister of a former Nobel Prize winner, whose Nobel medallion they recently confiscated. All the good moves of every penny ante dictatorship.

I keep getting a vision in my head of Obama reading about the Iranian efforts to put down the riots while wishing that his 500,000 strong national police force, which would not be sworn to uphold the Constitution, was a reality and he could have used them on those pesky tea partiers. Things would be so much simpler for him.

A new study of dust by a scientist at the University of Arizona has revealed dust to be a major modifier of the ecosystem. (Hey, the guy is being financially responsible. Why not study something you already have plenty of at hand.)

They are saying that as (if) global warming raises temperatures and more forests are cut and developments built, the amount of dust in the air is expected to increase, but they don’t really have an idea as to the impact. They say that dust may have been a factor in ending the last ice age 10,000 years ago by blackening snow and ice, leading to its melting.

They also say that even when you can’t see it, billions of tons of dust are being transported through the atmosphere. Dust seeds the oceans with needed minerals and is an important parent material to soil, bringing in natural fertilizers and minerals.

The key observation (in my opinion) was that dust, unlike Carbon Dioxide, tends to block the suns radiation and cool the planet.

My question is, if that is the case, why isn’t Phoenix cooler? After all, we have more dust than anyone but the Sahara.

Maybe a little good news with which to start the new decade:

No Rise of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction in Past 160 Years, New Research Finds

Science Daily (Dec. 31, 2009) — Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere.

However, some studies have suggested that the ability of oceans and plants to absorb carbon dioxide recently may have begun to decline and that the airborne fraction of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions is therefore beginning to increase.

Many climate models also assume that the airborne fraction will increase. Because understanding of the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide is important for

predicting future climate change, it is essential to have accurate knowledge of whether that fraction is changing or will change as emissions increase.

To assess whether the airborne fraction is indeed increasing, Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol reanalyzed available atmospheric carbon dioxide and emissions data since 1850 and considers the uncertainties in the data.

In contradiction to some recent studies, he finds that the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades.

The research is published in Geophysical Research Letters.

A little good news for a change. One study, however, doesn’t make fact. It does, however point out that there is good reason for many of us to believe as we do. And, at worst, it would point out the inability to accurately measure the green house gasses, as more scientists have pointed out recently.

Big Sis goes Postal:

WASHINGTON – As the government reviews how an alleged terrorist was able to bring a bomb onto a U.S.-bound plane and tries to blow it up on Christmas Day, the Transportation Security Administration is going after bloggers who wrote about a directive to increase security after the incident.

TSA special agents served subpoenas to travel bloggers Steve Frischling and Chris Elliott, demanding that they reveal who leaked the security directive to them. The government says the directive was not supposed to be disclosed to the public.

Frischling said he met with two TSA special agents Tuesday night at his Connecticut home for about three hours and again on Wednesday morning when he was forced to hand over his lap top computer. Frischling said the agents threatened to interfere with his contract to write a blog for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines if he didn’t cooperate and provide the name of the person who leaked the memo.

“It literally showed up in my box,” Frischling told The Associated Press. “I do not know who it came from.” He said he provided the agents a signed statement to that effect.

Thuggery seems to be a common thread that runs through the entire administration.

Thank you, Cecile. Cecile sent me an email regarding a rant from the far left Dr. David Michael Green, a professor of Political Science at Hofstra University in New York.

I was absolutely stunned to read the column attacking the “messiah”. I was also stunned to learn how many concerns about Obama that the two of us share, albeit for sometimes opposite reasons. However, he is as outraged about the lack of job creation as I am, as well as the health care bill.

OK Al. When you get a home that doesn’t use the equivalent energy of 20 homes and you quit flying to the grocery store in one of your two private jets, we will think about it.

The left never seems to run out of ways for us to sacrifice for the greater good and never seems to run out of reasons why they do not.

Observation of the Day:

While Obama rams his takeover plan down the throats of all Americans, the rank and file democrats are busy fashioning golden likenesses of him.

Observations:

It has been found that Iran is close to clinching a deal to import 1350 tons of purified uranium ore (yellowcake) from Kazakhstan.

Does that sound like Iran plans to discontinue its uranium enrichment plans anytime soon?

Obama is starting to take hits for the breakdown of security in the Christmas Day attempted airplane bombing. It has been found that the kid’s father contacted the CIA weeks beforehand with his fears that his son had become radicalized. It was thought that the CIA agents report sat on a desk at CIA headquarters at Langley for weeks. However, the CIA says the info was transferred to the National Counter Terrorism Center which is a division of the DNI (Directorate of National Intelligence) (is it just me or does that sound like an oxymoron?). If that is the case, then did someone on the National Security Council know about the report? We may have a first class blame game going here.

Obama needs to take the hit for hiring cabinet heads on the basis of them being former political supporters or because of their political ideology. One illustration of this trend is the makeup of his cabinet. Something like 3% are from the private sector.

Other presidential cabinets have been made up of 30-60% people from the private sector. I think Carter’s was something like 15-18%.

This low percentage of people in the cabinets that actually know how to do something has plagued the Obama administration since the beginning; thus my moniker, “the 4th grade class”. It will continue to plague his presidency.

This problem is magnified by the people who don’t know how to actually do something hiring people to do something. They usually end up hiring people who they are comfortable with, which means that they probably don’t know how to do anything either.

That said, no CEO can foresee the occasional bungling that subordinates can get involved in. The CEO’s sole defense to ongoing problems is to hire top people that know how to do things and trust that they can hire similar people.

There is a time and a place for academics and ideologues. Running a government ain’t one of them.

And if things weren’t bad enough, Arizona’s former pretend governor and our current pretend Homeland Security Director, (”Big Sis”) and one of her cohorts were still blaming the Bush administration on the Sunday shows.

The fact that they may be feeling a little threatened now might explain their attempts to deflect attention from their bungling. Obama, realizing that this could very possibly derail his presidency, has promised full accountability at the highest levels and that heads will roll.

Whether that is an empty threat remains to be seen. If this blows over, it probably will be. However, if they fail to keep the extent of the bungling from the public, then expect a sacrifice or two.

I suspect, in that case, the head of the DNI will be sacrificed for the cause. I doubt that Napolitano will get the ax this time.

And if things weren’t bad enough, Obama managed to ban the term “War on Terror” just in time. I feel better that we aren’t in a war on terror. I might have panicked, otherwise.

By the way, remember how the liberals howled about Bush’s delay in leaving the grade school when 9-11 happened? I have heard nary a word from them about Obama taking three days to even comment on the Christmas day attempted bombing, which Obama himself called a potentially catastrophic breach; well at least he did when he finally got around to commenting on it.

Word has it that a second man from that Christmas Day flight was led away in handcuffs by Detroit authorities. Three different witnesses said they saw a man in a suit being led away from the plane in handcuffs after a dog search of the aircraft.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now I am hearing that al Qaeda has its own body scanners that they use to perfect techniques of smuggling explosives onto aircraft.

Remember me talking about the political damage that Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska did to himself by caving into the dems and providing the 60th vote on health care?

Well, that political damage showed up Tuesday in a poll released by Rasmussen Reports.

The telephone survey of 500 Nebraskans, conducted Monday, suggested Republican Gov. Dave Heineman would defeat Nelson in a potential 2012 Senate race by a 61-30 margin.

The chickens are coming home to roost. Maybe it will give pause to some other dems when we come to reconciliation.

And if things weren’t bad enough for the dems, as well as serial intern abuser and Palin hater, David letterman, new information has just come to light.

According to a new survey just released by USA Today and the Gallup Poll, 62-year-old Hillary Clinton barely beat out 45-year-old Sarah Palin as the most admired female — 16% to 15% in a poll of 1,025 adult Americans.

However, because the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, it’s statistically a P-C draw. The survey was …

… open-ended, meaning men and women respondents had to provide the names by themselves.

And if things weren’t bad enough, The Financial Times has reported that a group of German Hackers has cracked the secret GSM cell phone code and posted it on the internet, leaving about 3 Billion users at risk of having their calls intercepted.

The hackers said that they had given up on the cell phone providers doing something on their own and are hoping that this will spur them into strengthening security on their networks.

LONDON TIMES: Russia needs more weapons to punch through America’s new missile defence shield, Vladimir Putin said yesterday in blunt remarks that will complicate efforts to cut the nuclear arsenals of the former Cold War rivals.

The Russian Prime Minister, reasserting himself as the country’s real ruler, said that Moscow should press ahead with a new generation of weapons to stop the Americans doing “whatever they want”.

That is the stupidest thing that I have ever heard. By the time Obama gets finished with us, we won’t be able to finance one of Obama’s dates to New York City, let alone a comprehensive missile defense shield.

Blue Moon:

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Once in a blue moon there is one on New Year’s Eve. Revelers ringing in 2010 will be treated to a so-called blue moon. According to popular definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month. But don’t expect it to be blue - the name has nothing to do with the color of our closest celestial neighbor.

I wonder what that portends; if anything.

French Constitutional court rejects Carbon Tax:

Dec. 30 (Bloomberg) — France’s constitutional court rejected a proposed tax on carbon emissions, saying a web of exemptions violated the principal of equality and rendered efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions ineffective.

The government said it will make new proposals on Jan. 20.

The tax, which would have started on Jan. 1, was set at 17 Euros ($24.38) per ton of carbon-dioxide emissions, President Nicolas Sarkozy said in September. To make the tax more palatable, he partially or fully exempted power plants, public transport, airlines, farming and fishing, as well as 1,018 older cement, steel and glass factories.

In all, 93 percent of all industrial carbon emissions in France would have avoided paying the full tax, the constitutional court said in a decision published on its Web site. The tax would have fallen disproportionately on fuel for heating and cars, it said.

Those Midwesterner’s are a hardy bunch; Ya shore:

RAPID CITY JOURNAL: A Sturgis woman had a blood-alcohol level of .708 percent, possibly a state record, when she was found earlier this month behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle parked on Interstate 90, according to Meade County State’s Attorney Jesse Sondreal.

A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper discovered Marguerite Engle, 45, on Dec. 1 passed out behind the wheel of a delivery truck reported stolen in Rapid City.

Her blood-alcohol level was almost nine times South Dakota’s legal limit of .08 percent.

Checks with local and state labs where blood-alcohol levels are tested suggest Engle’s reading may be the highest ever recorded in South Dakota, Sondreal said.

Sondreal said a state chemist recalled a sample that tested .53, but nothing higher, in his more than 30 years on the job.

Sondreal’s research indicates that a blood-alcohol level of .40 is considered a lethal dose for about 50 percent of the population.

“Engle’s was almost double that,” Sondreal said.

After she was found, Engle was hospitalized and freed on bond.

She failed to appear in court on Dec. 15, but Sturgis police located her Monday evening in another stolen car sitting in a ditch along S.D. Highway 34 near Fort Meade.

Engle was arrested for second offense driving under the influence and taken to jail.

Sondreal said Engle has been living in a hotel after recently moving here from Minnesota.

Obama’s real reason for a criminal trial for terrorists?

Have you wondered why Barack Hussein Obama has insisted that the U.S. Attorney General hold the trials for the 911 Murdering Muslims Terrorists in Civilian Courts as Common Criminals, instead of as Terrorists who attacked the United States of America in a Military Tribunal ? Something to think about: If the Muslim Terrorists are tried in Military Tribunals, convicted, and sentenced to DEATH by the Military Tribunal, Barack Hussein Obama, as President of the United States , is required by United States Law to sign their Death Warrants before they are EXECUTED. He is not required to sign any death warrants if sentenced to death in a Civilian Court . Now think about the Muslim Jihadist, Major Hassan who recently slaughtered his fellow soldiers at Ft. Hood , Texas . Major Hassan did not want to go to Afghanistan and be a part of anything that could lead to the deaths of fellow Muslims. He stated that Muslims should not and must not KILL FELLOW MUSLIMS. ‘ Note: Let’s see who will end up trying Major Hassan — the military or civilian court. Barack Hussein Obama’s motive is to make sure he does not have to sign death warrants for fellow Muslims who are convicted as Terrorist killers! Why would the President of the United States , not want to sign the death warrants for Muslim Terrorists who attacked the United States and MURDERED over 3,000 innocent United States Citizens on 911? Could it be that he is FORBIDDEN BY HIS RELIGION to have anything to do with the execution of Muslims? LONDON TIMES: Hundreds of al-Qaeda militants are planning terror attacks from Yemen, the country’s Foreign Minister said today.

Abu Bakr al-Qirbi appealed for more help from the international community to help to train and equip counter-terrorist forces.

His plea came after an al-Qaeda group based in Yemen claimed responsibility for the failed Christmas Day airliner bomb plot.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, alleged to be behind the attempt to blow up an American-bound aircraft, spent time in Yemen with al-Qaeda and was in the country only days before the failed attack.

“Big Sis” really stuck her foot in it again as you will see later in this newsletter.

The question seemed to be, “Was he so intoxicated by the sound of his own voice that he went off the deep end? Or perhaps he was so drunk with power over shaping the Senate health care bill that it explains his strange rant.”

Or maybe it was plain ol’ Captain Morgan. He would have made Teddy Kennedy proud.

Word has it that a couple of strong backers of the public option in the House have now said that it may have to be sacrificed in order to get a health care bill.

That tells me that there is a 95% chance that the bill either has or will have a couple of hidden triggers for the public option. Either that, or as I reported a couple of weeks ago, Obama needs a victory so bad that anything that passes will be OK with him as long as it says health care reform at the top.

Janet “Nappy” Napolitano, Homeland security director and former governor impersonator of the State of Arizona has reversed herself on her statement yesterday when she said her Homeland Security system works. Now she is saying that it didn’t work.

That revelation apparently came to her when someone pointed out that the Nigerian, who was already on the dreaded enemies list, got on the plane without a passport and 80 grams of PETN, a compound related to nitro-glycerin used by the military strapped to his body. That was enough of that explosive to blow a hole through the side of the aircraft.

Experts say that the man had the terrorist equivalent of a wardrobe malfunction because either the detonator was not large enough or it was not in proper contact with the material.

This was a very close call. Had the detonator worked, this would be an entirely different story.

Now authorities say that the young Nigerian has claimed that more of these al Qaeda trained bombers are on the way.

British police have said that they fear that 25 more British born muslims are currently training in Yemen for this duty.

It should be noted here that “Big Sis” at Homeland Security says there is no indication that the man who attempted to destroy an airliner in Detroit on Christmas Day is part of a larger terrorist plot.

Apparently, the administration has let it leak out that no job creating programs will be put in place until health care passes.

How’s that for playing hardball? The audacity of raw power!

A little more Trouble in Paradise. Now it appears that Mrs. O’s poll numbers are beginning to tumble. (that’s Mrs. Obama, not Mrs. Onassis) Up until recently, her husband could only dream of having poll numbers like hers. Actually, hers are still considerably higher than his are but are heading in the same direction.

And horror of horrors, Sarah Palin’s are on the way up with her cracking 45% recently.

Recently, it was reported that the New York courts handled 4.9 million cases this past year with the rest of the nation’s courts seeing similar increases. It appears that all of this legal activity is due to the financial fallout of the recession. Most experts believe that this is just the first round.

And Obama is holding job creation programs hostage to get his government takeover bill passed. What a guy!

Some really bad news: It has been determined that a 19 year old Peruvian youth in Florida has introduced Extremely Drug Resistant (XXDR) Tuberculosis to the U.S. for the first time. This monster bug has apparently been created by TB sufferers that haven’t finished their anti-biotic regime.

Some experts say that it will take 15 to 20 years to come up with a new drug that is effective in battling this thing. The kid was transferred to one of the only remaining TB sanitariums left in the country and told that he has just one chance in a hundred of living and his treatment if successful, would keep him there for two year.

They also told him that if he went back to Peru, he would die within a month.

Experts say that Tuberculosis is the top single infectious killer of adults worldwide, and it lies dormant in one in three people, according to WHO. Of those, 10 percent will develop active TB, and about 2 million people a year will die from it.

They say that simple TB is simple to treat — as cheap as a $10 course of medication for six to nine months. But if treatment is stopped short, the bacteria fight back and mutate into a tougher strain. It can cost $100,000 a year or more to cure drug-resistant TB, which is described as multi-drug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and XXDR.

There are now about 500,000 cases of MDR tuberculosis a year worldwide. XDR tuberculosis killed 52 of the first 53 people diagnosed with it in South Africa three years ago.

They say that a single infected person can infect 15 to 20 people before they discover that they have TB.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now France’s president, Nicholas Sarkozy, has apparently cooled on Obama. This is the first Pro-American French president in 25 years.

An early Obama enthusiast, he has grown more angry at Obama’s equivocation on the Iranian and Korean nuclear crisis’ and has dissed him in speeches at the U.N., noting that long term planning is OK, but we live in the present and the present is two nuclear crisis. He went on to say that we live in the ‘real world’, not a ‘virtual’ world.

Never having been a great Francophile, I couldn’t agree with him more!

And if things weren’t bad enough, now the publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Sun is asking Harry Reid where Nevada’s bribe is!

The Citizens against Public Waste have published their “2009 Pig Book”. Among the absurd examples of state waste detailed in the Piglet Books: $11,900,000 for a new 55,000-sq. foot administrative building for 116 turnpike workers in Maine; $9 million for the “Party Bunker,” an underground entertainment facility buried in the front yard of the Governor’s Mansion in Tennessee; $4 million for a private golf club in Louisiana; and $875,000 to reconstruct a hiking trail that is now barred from public access in Hawaii.

In January 2000, leaders in Charlotte, North Carolina, invited their favorite son, Billy Graham, to a luncheon in his honor. Observations:

At 7:09 this morning, the senate passed the health care bill. Do you feel better now?

And goofball Harry Reid mistakenly voted NO before realizing his mistake and changing his vote. Where do we find these clowns and how are they elected?

I called most of my friends and relatives in the Midwest and back east to ask them how that global warming thing is working for them. I know—snarky.

Now it appears that Gitmo will be open until 2011 because the 4th grade class did not understand the time it takes to close a real estate deal as well as the time to prepare the prison, near Chicago, for the terrorists. All that is being

accomplished here is that Obama and the dems are spending a hell of a lot more of our money unnecessarily. But then, what’s new?

However, I would vote for it if we could make it Obama’s official residence.

Well, it appears that Al Franken has a new hobby; tearing into GOP staffers. He has attacked some staffers so viciously that their Senators had to step in to defend them.

It must make him feel powerful to attack staff members. He really needs to be sent back to his true calling, night manager at a sleazy Hollywood porn shop.

Jimmy Carter is apologizing to Jews again. What is it about Jews that seems to come bubbling to the surface repeatedly.

Timothy Geithner, the Treasury gunsel, is now saying that job growth will “resume” this coming spring. Resume? I was not aware that it had started.

Something you need to know:

WALL STREET JOURNAL: Look for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to try to circumvent the traditional conference committee process by which the different versions of health care reform passed by each house will be reconciled. If so, it will be the latest example of violating principles of transparency and accountability in the single-minded pursuit of legislative victory.

Conferences involving members from both houses are messy things. They are usually conducted in public and often televised, and can produce a compromise version of the bill that leaves rank-and-file members tempted to vote against the final version. That could be perilous in the case of health care since it’s likely to pass without a vote to spare in the Senate and the House’s version passed by only five votes.

North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad, chair of the Budget Committee, has already warned that if the final bill “isn’t close to the Senate bill, there will be no way to get the 60 votes here” to shut off debate and pass the final product. But many House members, led by Michigan Rep. John Conyers, are insisting on major changes in the Senate’s version.

Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi would love to come up with a way to bash heads in private and skip any public discussion that further reveals just how incoherent and unworkable both the bills are. Luckily, there is a subterfuge readily available that wouldn’t require the House to swallow the Senate’s bill unchanged but also ducks the traditional give-and-take of the conference committee.

When Democrats took over Congress in 2007, they increasingly did not send bills through the regular conference process. “We have to defer to the bigger picture,” explained Rep. Henry Waxman of California.

Rather than appoint members to a public conference committee, those measures were “ping-ponged” — i.e. changes to reconcile the two versions were transmitted by messenger between the two houses as the final product was crafted behind closed doors

solely by the leadership. Many Democrats grumbled at the secrecy. “We need to get back to the point where we use conference committees . . . and have serious dialogue,” said Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama at the time.

But serious dialogue isn’t what Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid are interested in right now. Look for the traditional conference committee to be replaced by a “ping-pong” game in which health care is finalized behind closed doors with little public scrutiny before the bill is rushed to the floor of each chamber for a final vote.

The deceit of the democratic leadership is nothing short of breathtaking. I would expect this type of behavior in Putin’s Russia or Chavez’s Venezuela, but in America? These people are criminals in the true sense of the word. My term of “Yellow Rats” fit them perfectly as they can’t stand the light of publicity shining on their nefarious ways.

More on yesterday’s report:

Dec. 23 (Bloomberg) — The Congressional Budget Office challenged claims by health-care overhaul proponents that Medicare savings in Senate legislation would help finance expanded coverage and postpone the bankruptcy of the medical program for the elderly.

The nonpartisan agency said the $246 billion it projected the legislation would save Medicare can’t both finance new programs and help pay future expenses for elderly covered under the federal program.

Nor could those savings be used to extend the solvency of Medicare, set to run out of money in 2017, the budget office said in a letter to Senate Republicans.

“What we’ve seen is a colossal manipulation” by Democrats “of the accounting scores of CBO” and the independent actuary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, said Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the Republican who requested the analysis from CBO. He called the letter “a potential game-changer.”

It should be a game changer but Pelosi and Reid won’t allow that to happen. To the extent that congress has a fiduciary relationship with the taxpayers of this country, they are, or should be, criminally liable.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran’s president on Tuesday dismissed a year-end deadline set by the Obama administration and the West for Tehran to accept a U.N.-drafted deal to swap enriched uranium for nuclear fuel. The United States warned Iran to take the deadline seriously.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also accused the U.S. of fabricating a purported Iranian secret document that appears to lay out a plan for developing a critical component of an atomic bomb.

Hey, Mr. President! How’s that touchy-feely dialogue stuff working out for you? Pretty well, I suspect. You certainly are giving Iran all the time that they need to develop a nuclear weapon.

A New Wrinkle on Ft. Hood:

BREITBART: Nidal Hasan, the US soldier who killed 13 people at an attack on Fort Hood military base last month, sought advice about murdering US troops in 2008, a Yemeni imam told Al-Jazeera on Wednesday.

Hasan, a Muslim Army psychiatrist, faces 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in connection with the November 5 shooting attack at the Texas military facility.

On Wednesday, Al-Jazeera’s Arabic-language website published an interview with US-Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Aulaqi, who said he and Hasan communicated by email for over a year about the permissibility of killing US soldiers and Israeli civilians.

It is my opinion that the Libs need to take the hit on this one. The sole reason that the FBI and others didn’t get involved in putting a lid on this guy earlier was because they feared violating political correctness standards. 13 people died because of political correctness. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Hamas says they are ready for war with Israel:

GAZA (Reuters) - As an Israeli drone flew overhead, a masked Hamas spokesman said the Islamist group would not shirk from battle with Israel, which carried out a powerful Gaza offensive a year ago.

“We do not wish for war. We wish for calm and peace for our people,” Abu Ubaida, spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, said late on Wednesday from the cover of an orchard in the Gaza Strip.

“But if any battle is imposed on us, we are ready with all our manpower and equipment to confront any Zionist war, any crime and any attack regardless of scale.”

One way to achieve that calm and peace you wish for your people might be to quit shooting rockets into Israel.

Bernie suffers a little stress:

DURHAM, NC (WTVD) — ABC11 Eyewitness News has learned that Bernie Madoff was treated for serious injuries consistent with an assault.

Sources told ABC11 the disgraced financier was treated at Duke Hospital in Durham last Friday and discharged earlier this week.

He is serving a life sentence at the federal prison in Butner.

According to sources, he had facial fractures, broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

Apparently he cheated the wrong person’s mother.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Today’s attachment gives a rather definitive description of the results of central planning in the U.S. and perhaps a preview of a city near you. It is a good description of how things really work in this world rather than what the liberals would have us believe. See page:  USA: The Next Detroit.

If you think about it, it drives home the point that the central planning will create chaos and those that can will get away from it. Then, in order that everyone is treated equally (at least those not connected to the party) the choice has to be taken away from people so that the misery is equally distributed.

I remember those pictures taken in Moscow during the 70’s of the architecturally barren government apartment buildings, which looked like the public housing projects that they were and the grocery stores with lines of people running down the block and the empty shelves.

If you have memories of these things, share some of them with the young who have no idea what the dems have in store for them. Also let them read the attached article.

Breaking News:

The Congressional Budget office has reported that the supposed savings from Medicare cuts are being double counted by the administration and the democratic leadership. Apparently, they are counting the Medicare cuts towards cutting the deficit by something like $134 Billion over 10 years and then secretly using the money they get from Medicare cuts to use on other programs.

The CBO says that it substantially misstates the government’s true financial position and instead of a $134 Billion deficit cut, the plan would increase the deficit by about $270 Billion!

Folks: This is nothing short of ENRON style accounting! If this were in the private sector, every one of these S.O.B.’s would be criminally indicted!

Sen. Harkins (D-IA) has told the democrats that they need to vote down an amendment that would prohibit the use of Medicare savings on any other program. He said that if they didn’t vote it down,” it would kill the (healthcare) bill.” Why would it kill the bill?

So where is the D.O.J. in all of this? Oh, that’s right; they have become Obama’s private law firm!

You don’t have to take my word for it, folks.

Observations:

Have you noticed the fairness that the dems are exhibiting in their application of the new laws? I mean, they are the party of compassion and fairness, aren’t they?

Take the 40% tax on the cadillac health plans for instance. The union health plans are, for the most part, exempted. That is where the majority of the money for the cadillac health plan tax will come from, if they weren’t exempt. So the non-union folks will take it in the shorts and the tax won’t recover near what they are telling us.

Then there is the cost cutting. Take the Tort reform issues, which if brought into line, could shave billions off the cost of health care.

That is a non-starter because the American Trial Lawyers Assn. want it that way. So instead, we will cut $500 Billion from Medicare. Those seniors are nothing but a pain in the fanny to the administration anyway. They are the last ones with a sense of history in this country so that once they are out of the way, the NEA having done its job in dumbing down about 3 generations of kids, the young people won’t recognize what the administration is doing until it is too late.

And the administration is invoking its moral authority to tell corporations what they can pay their executives. While that may sound good to the populace which has been steeped in class warfare by the dems, the principle can have horrendous consequences.

Take the special deals that the administration made with individual congress people to get the unwanted health plan passed. What happens in these cases is that the taxpayers in other states end up subsidizing those favored states. I don’t think that is even constitutional.

And how about the TARP and Stimulus packages? The money, for the most part, ended up as pork for special interests and to pay back political supporters. The little guy on the street got little if anything.

And how about the administrations totally ignoring job creation for the past year in favor of pushing its Marxist agenda? We have people starving on the streets and the S.O.B.’s are spending their time rushing through a Marxist health care bill that won’t take effect until 2014!!!! Where is the compassion and fairness in that ?

And how about the administration and democratic congressional leaders lying and committing fraud on the public in order to push their Marxist political agenda?

Folks, you aren’t making near enough noise. And if you don’t, who will?

And how about the administration and democratic leadership pushing what may be turning out to be the single largest fraud ever perpetrated on the citizens of the world, let alone the U.S?

The stakes in this game are Trillions of dollars for the players, and at the expense of U.S. taxpayers and those from around the world.

I am finally seeing and hearing a few leaders and experts say that any possible recovery will be based on job creation.

Unfortunately, they are about a year too late in their alarm. Long time readers will remember that I have been harping on this very issue for the past 8 months.

Let me say it again. Nothing of any significant good will happen in this economy until we start creating jobs! Period! And then, there will be a lag time before it takes hold.

And the administration appears to be treating the problem with nothing more than lip service. The reason for this is not known at this time but two reasons could explain the lack of action:

The first is that in order to fix this and get job creation going again, they would have to back off their bills which further their Marxist agenda but kill the economy. Obama’s sole compassion seems to be for his Marxist agenda, not the people of this country that will be hurt.

The second is that he and his administration are ignorant in this endeavor, to the point of criminality. If this is the case, he could be prosecuted under felony statutes, at least in Arizona.

Arizona, if you are not aware, has made stupidity a felony. When parents of toddlers let them drown in swimming pools or bath tubs or kill themselves in some other tragic circumstance that lead investigators to believe that the parents weren’t watching the child as they should have, the state can and will file felony charges against them.

Now that we have a precedent that stupidity is a felony, I have been dying to try it out on a politician.

Democrat Switches Sides:

THE HILL: Freshman Rep. Parker Griffith (D-Ala.), a Blue Dog Democrat, announced on Tuesday that he is switching parties to become a Republican.

Griffith has bucked his party on nearly all of the items at the top of its legislative agenda.

Griffith said in August that he would not back Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for House Speaker again because she is too divisive.

“I would not vote for her. Someone that divisive and that polarizing cannot bring us together,” he told the Huntsville Times. “If she doesn’t like it, I’ve got a gift certificate to the mental health center.”

The White House appeared to be caught unaware. At the end of the daily press briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he did not know that Griffith was switching parties.

So, is he now a Red Dog Republican?

White House pressuring Dem Lawmaker to keep his mouth shut:

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said the White House and the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives have been pressuring him not to speak out on the “compromise” abortion language in the Senate version of the health care bill. “They think I shouldn’t be expressing my views on this bill until they get a chance to try to sell me the language,” Stupak told CNSNews.com in an interview on Tuesday. “Well, I don’t need anyone to sell me the language. I can read it. I’ve seen it. I’ve worked with it. I know what it says. I don’t need to have a conference with the White House. I have the legislation in front of me here.”

The current version of the Senate bill contains so-called “compromise” language crafted by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.). This language does not bar taxpayer funding of

health plans that cover abortion, but does create a firewall to supposedly keep federal money from being used to pay for abortions. Over the weekend, Stupak issued a statement calling the proposed Senate language “unacceptable.” “A review of the Senate language indicates a dramatic shift in federal policy that would allow the federal government to subsidize insurance policies with abortion coverage,” said the statement.

It appears that it is not only the administration that are racketeers, but the whole damn democratic leadership! I think they all should be prosecuted under RICO statutes.

BREITBART: President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday announced a new chain of government-run, cut-rate retail stores that will sell everything from food to cars to clothing from places such as China, Argentina and Bolivia.

“We’re creating Comerso, meaning Socialist Corporation of Markets,” Chavez said at the opening of a “socialist” fast-food location for traditional Venezuelan arepas (cornbread).

“They’ll see what’s good. We’ll show them what a real market is all about, not those speculative, money-grubbing markets, but a market for the people,” said Chavez in his drive to change Venezuela from a market-based economy to a socialist one.

Can you not envision the same thing happening under the Obama administration?

Some things never change and yet our liberal cousins never seem to learn. Since a number of them that I am acquainted with are intelligent, I can only assume that their goal for this country significantly differs from that of the rest of us.

Observation of the Day:

I am not saying that Obama’s popularity is falling precipitously in the polls, but my ex-wife gives me an approval rating higher than his…barely.

Observations:

My question is whether the Federal Government is allowed to play favorites among the states, heaping financial favors on some states and requiring the citizens of un-favored states pay for those favors.

Now, some are worrying about the fact that banks that spent the most lobbying money got the most bailout money. Well, duuuhh!

I think that they were a little too clever for themselves in this case. They assumed, and wrongly so, that Obama could be counted on for quid pro quo. What they don’t understand about people like this that it is tantamount to making a deal with a Black Mamba and he will kill you without a second thought if it serves his purpose.

Folks, that is a huge increase in the odds against your well-being. You and yours shouldn’t have to be told again.

It looks like we will be having a hugely expensive and inefficient health care bill after all, although there could still be some sticking points like abortion. Proponents supporting the woman’s group “Crack Ho’s Anonymous” are threatening to push for more liberal government supported abortion rights.

This gives me pause to wonder. If we had had government supported abortions back in the day, would Barack’s mother have availed herself of one?

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) has labeled opponents of the incredibly screwed up health care bill, birthers, right-wing militias and Aryan groups. Keep it up pal. And I heard that liberals said that they wouldn’t stoop to name calling. Oops, I find out that they said that in 1934.

Oh, and the Mayor of Chicago is shutting down the city early for the holidays to save money.

I kind of like that. Sorry folks, you can’t enter Chicago today because it’s closed.

Rudy Giuliani has announced that he isn’t running for anything in 2010, preferring to stay in the private sector. (That means he is making too much money to quit). I think, given the way this country is going, that is the way to go. Make a lot of money in a hurry, pay your taxes on it and send it to Switzerland to have it changed into Swiss francs, and leave it there. Just keep what is left away from Obama.

The Maricopa County Attorney has filed charges against two County supervisors and a Judge. The back lash from the legal community has been strong.

Everyone is shocked at first about the filing of charges against a judge. But then, when one thinks about it, judges are primarily lawyers.

That said, I think the wheels are coming off the County attorney’s train.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now we are told that the recovery in the third quarter wasn’t as strong as they predicted. In fact it was 21% below what was predicted. Who knew?

Aaand, guess what? Barbara Billingsly turns 94 today. Remember her? She played Mrs. Cleaver on “Leave it to Beaver”.

Aaand, did you hear about the preacher that is encouraging the poor to shop lift? The Bible warns us to steer clear of these freak fests. It used to be that if you were an idiot, that you couldn’t get press coverage. After covering politicians for so many years, it now appears that the media can no longer make the distinction.

Aaand, word has it that Brittany Murphy died of a lethal mixture of prescription drugs.

Dems poo poo vote-buying charges:

CBS NEWS: Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, responded Tuesday to widespread criticism that Democrats only garnered the 60 votes needed to defeat Republican stalling tactics on the health reform bill by catering to self-interest, saying Democrats are focusing on the big picture; “trying to cross a demarcation line.” Harkin dismissed deals dubbed vote-buying by GOP senators as “small stuff” that distracted Americans from the primary focus of the overhaul bill.

“On one side is health care as a privilege, on the other side is health care as a right. With these votes, with the vote that we’ll take before Christmas, we will cross that line finally and say that health care is a right of all Americans.”

So, does that mean that the dems are saving the really big vote-buying and back door deal making for the second year of Obama?

I think Iowa readers would be well advised to start working on replacing Harkins.

Nathan Myhrvold’s Anti Global Warming Scheme:

ASSOCIATED CONTENT: Nathan Myhrvold is a former technology officer for Microsoft who has found his own company, Intellectual Ventures, which is involved in a number of technology development programs, including new forms of energy generation.

Nathan Myhrvold also thinks that he has found a cheap and reliable way to solve global warming, which does not involve upending and perhaps destroying the world’s economy. The global warming solution proposed by Nathan Myhvold involves running a hose up to the stratosphere with balloons and using that hose to pump out enough sulfur particles to dim the sun’s heat just enough to counteract the effects of global warming. The estimated cost would be about two hundred and fifty million dollars. Nathan Myhrvold suggests that volcanoes and other natural processes already pump out sulfur into the stratosphere and that his scheme, if adopted, would increase that amount by only one percent. Nathan Myhrvold therefore thinks that there would not be any unintended consequences (like starting a new ice age.) Nathan Myhrvold’s anti global warming scheme is intriguing, even for those people (increasingly most people) who doubt that man caused global warming is actually real. The climate gate scandal involving leaked emails suggests that the data that supports the idea of man caused global warming has been doctored to some extent. Thus there is increasing resistance to the idea of arbitrarily cutting back on carbon emissions before clean energy technology is mature enough to take the place of fossil fuels, thus causing wrenching disruptions in economic growth and personal lifestyles.

One might suggest that Nathan Myhrvold’s anti global warming scheme might be part of a more rational solution to climate change, if it is a problem at all. The idea would be consist of the following. Drop all ideas of government-mandated reductions in carbon emissions. Fund “clean energy” technology that would include not only the politically correct wind and solar, but nuclear, fusion, and space based solar energy.

How about this folks? Can it be all that simple? Some experts apparently believe so. And it looks as if a volcano in the Philippines is readying itself to help us out in this endeavor.

Carbon Prices falling:

FINANCIAL TIMES: Carbon prices plunged yesterday in the aftermath of the Copenhagen conference on climate change, dealing a blow to the credibility of the European Union’s carbon-trading scheme.

Prices for carbon permits for December 2010 delivery, the benchmark contract for pricing European permits, dropped nearly 10 per cent in early trading, before recovering to end the day 8.3 per cent lower at €12.41.

Lower prices give companies less incentive to invest in cutting their greenhouse gas output. Analysts estimate that prices of more than €40 a tonne are required to stimulate investment in new low-carbon technologies.

Global Warming Update:

MINNEAPOLIS STAR-TRIBUNE: A large winter storm with the potential to dump a foot or more of snow is grinding its way toward Minnesota, and its arrival is likely to mess up travel plans, complicate last-minute errands and ensure a very white Christmas.

“It’s not definite yet, but it has an uncanny resemblance to the East Coast storm last Saturday,” meteorologist Paul Douglas posted Monday on his Facebook page. “I

want to see one to two more computer runs, but this could be the snowiest Christmas for Minnesota in 30 years.”…

“This is major,” said James McQuirter, meteorologist at the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service. “It might not get out of here until Saturday.”

Douglas said in an interview that, depending on the temperature, freezing rain, sleet and/or ice could enter the picture, particularly to the east and south.

“The question is the timetable and the amounts. … It’s going to be wave after wave of snowfall.” As my sister in Minnesota would say, “Where is this global warming when you need it?”

And if things weren’t bad enough already:

PARIS (AFP) – Man’s best friend could be one of the environment’s worst enemies, according to a new study which says the carbon paw print of a pet dog is more than double that of a gas-guzzling sports utility vehicle.

But the revelation in the book “Time to Eat the Dog: The Real Guide to Sustainable Living” by New Zealanders Robert and Brenda Vale has angered pet owners who feel they are being singled out as troublemakers.

The Vales, specialists in sustainable living at Victoria University of Wellington, analysed popular brands of pet food and calculated that a medium-sized dog eats around 164 kilos (360 pounds) of meat and 95 kilos (205 pounds) of cereal a year.

Cats have an eco-footprint of about 0.15 hectares, slightly less than driving a Volkswagen Golf for a year, while two hamsters equates to a plasma television and even the humble goldfish burns energy equivalent to two mobile telephones.

Likewise, dogs decrease biodiversity in areas they are walked, while their feces cause high bacterial levels in rivers and streams, making the water unsafe to drink, starving waterways of oxygen and killing aquatic life.

And cat poo can be even more toxic than doggy doo — owners who flush their litter down the toilet ultimately infect sea otters and other animals with toxoplasma gondii, which causes a killer brain disease. Cat owners, pay attention here. Bag it.

All I have to say on this is they better be true specialists in “sustainable living”, because the term acquires a whole new meaning when one has both “right & left wing militias” after them.

Cuban Official Disses Obama:

HAVANA (AP) - Cuba’s foreign minister called President Barack Obama an “imperial and arrogant” liar Monday for his conduct at the U.N. climate conference, a reflection of the communist island’s increasingly fiery verbal attacks on the U.S. government.

Bruno Rodriguez spent an hour and a half lambasting Obama’s behavior in Copenhagen, telling a news conference, “at this summit, there was only imperial, arrogant Obama, who does not listen, who imposes his positions and even threatens developing countries.”

He called the summit “a fallacy, a farce” and said Washington used back-room deals and strong-arm tactics to foist on the world a deal that he labeled “undemocratic” and “suicidal” because it urges - but does not require - major polluters to make deeper emissions cuts.

Rodriguez also said Cuba and other poor nations have refused to recognize the agreement because they weren’t permitted to participate in its development.

He singled out comments Obama made during a news conference in Copenhagen, when the U.S. president said no agreement had yet been reached but he was confident one would before the summit ended. “Obama knew he was lying, that he was deceiving public opinion,” the foreign minister said.

Apparently Chicago thugery is too distasteful, even for the Cuban Commies.

For those of you who thought I was Exaggerating: THE RADIO EQUALIZER: –SCHULTZ: White House Contacts Team ‘Joe’ Directly During Program! For anyone wondering why an increasing number of conservatives now use the term “state-controlled media” (which originated with Rush Limbaugh) to refer to television networks and newspapers, here’s one that drives the point home.

During his syndicated radio show Friday, libtalker and MSNBC host Ed Schultz relayed to listeners how he observed ‘Morning Joe’ Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski take feedback directly from the White House during their program last week. Schultz appeared on Thursday’s Morning Joe and directly challenged Obama’s David Axelrod on the current version of the health care bill under consideration in Congress. Interestingly, this particular segment has since generated a great deal of attention elsewhere, given the defensive nature of the White House advisor and the supposed conflict between the far left and the administration: And here’s what Ed told radio listeners the next day about the visit: SCHULTZ (07:14): I just want to get things clear, it was not arranged for me to have a question for David Axelrod. SCHULTZ (08:12): So Mika starts looking at her Blackberry and so does Scarborough and obviously the White House is texting them or emailing them or whatever and they didn’t like the show. Because Arianna had been on there, I’m on there, Howard Dean

had been on there and they wanted some balance. Now think about that - here’s the White House getting in contact with ‘Morning Joe’ because they’re afraid there’s too many lefties on the air! Now if that’s not sensitivity at its highest level, I don’t know what is! I told ya a few days ago they had rabbit ears! They don’t like anything that’s being said right now, they’re getting beat up!

Is it really possible that the White House has a direct line to MSNBC’s hosts, communicating with them during their live broadcasts? Now THAT’S state control! And do MSNBC staffers actually carry out the administration’s commands? In this case, they certainly made room on short notice for a lengthy segment featuring Axelrod, there to rebut comments made by Howard Dean and other recent guests. Now, imagine if Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, or another non-”progressive” host had been caught taking orders from Bush during the program. When would we ever hear the end of that?

It has been absolutely apparent to me from day one of Obama’s administration, just by observing what the media has not been reporting. It is the reason for this newsletter.

Observation of the Day:

The only place that will escape serious recession this decade is Washington D.C.

Observations:

The dems are licking their chops at the impending retirements of 4 centrist democrats including Rep. John Tanner of Tennessee, an original Blue Dog.

They believe that if they can get newer Representatives into the House, they will be easier to intimidate into voting for their Marxist bills.

Readers in Tennessee should be mobilizing to replace their two retiring reps, Tanner and Bart Gordon with conservative candidates. Likewise, readers in Washington and Kansas should be doing the same in regard to Brian Baird and Dennis Moore, respectively.

Well, we have two health bills now, one from the house and one from the senate. The only thing that they seem to have in common is that no one has any idea of whether it will end up saving the taxpayer money or raising their costs significantly. My money is on the latter. The bureaucracy that will be needed to administer this monstrosity, pore over your tax returns to determine if you are paying your fair share and sending out Obama’s private army to enforce it… Sorry about that; it will be the IRS, will probably cost us a hundred billion a year by itself.

I think it is going to be interesting when these two bills go to reconciliation. The highly Marxist House bill vs. the watered down senate version. Right now, word has it that the senate bill may prevail because of the fits that the centrist democrats gave the senate, and the dems still will need their votes.

Oh, by the way, do you know what got Senator Ben Nelson, the so-called anti-abortion guy from Nebraska to finally agree to support the bill. Reid agreed to cap Nebraska’s Medicaid contribution at what it is today and the feds (taxpayers) will chip in and pay all further increases in Nebraska’s Medicaid contribution for them; forever! I bet you didn’t know that you were that nice.

However, Nelson has thrown down the cudgel and stated that a public option and/or a tax increase on wealthy individuals would be a deal breaker for him.

How is the far left taking this? Howard Dean said on NBC’s “Meet the Press”, “This can’t be the final version of the bill,” “It simply sets us on a track in this country which is expensive and where we’re going to have lots more political fights.”

It’s funny how these little things slip out when the libs aren’t paying attention. However, if they say this mess will be expensive, I will take them at their word. They should know.

The abortion issue is another touchstone that may cause major problems in reconciliation. In order to get a publicly funded abortion a woman has to segregate her payment in to two, with one labeled for abortion.

Aside from the fact that this bill is the single largest abortion to be foisted on a country as a whole, my Grandfathers admonition of “Figures Lie and Liars Figure” keeps running through my head as an unending tape. This thing is getting so convoluted.

That said, abortion is a terribly complicated issue. Killing babies because they are an inconvenience is abhorrent to me. However, I think I would not have a problem with funding medically necessary abortions to save the mother’s life.

Also, another nasty reality of life in America is the number of crack babies born every year. These babies never had a chance and cost society millions in care in each of their lifetimes. They are usually so brain damaged when they are born that there is no chance for anything resembling a quality of life.

A number of years ago, a group on the east coast came under heavy censure because they were offering women, who were turning out crack babies on an annual basis, $10,000.00 if they would be sterilized. Women’s groups were outraged.

However, after thinking about it, I guess my anthropological training came to the surface and it sounded like a reasonable way for society to not only cut the misery of the little ones being born so damaged, but to also save society millions in the care of these kids, who are, for the most part, vegetables.

Perhaps, a less radical way of achieving this is to monitor these women on an ongoing basis and by inserting a birth control device, such as Norplant, under the skin which would last for 5 years, I am told.

This ugly underbelly of life exists in all cities and is a major deterrent to me supporting the legalization of any drug. Society, for the most part, has not even admitted to this problem, let alone moved to solve it. Maybe that is why we live in the suburbs, so we don’t have to think about it.

But I digress…

Getting back to the original debate, Ben Nelson is getting savaged by Nebraskans for his compromise to support the health care bill.

Gov. Dave Heineman: “The overhaul bill “bad news for Nebraska and bad news for America.” “Nebraskans did not ask for a special deal, only a fair deal,”

Nebraska’s right to life group howled that Nelson was a traitor for agreeing to language that they said amounted to an ‘accounting trick’, and the Catholic Bishops issued a statement saying that they were extremely disappointed in him.

Nebraska’s GOP declared that Nelsons decision has ended his political career in Nebraska and opened a web site to collect donations to unseat him in 2012.

Global Warming Update:

They are blaming the icy temperatures in France for the stranding of 4 trains in the chunnel for 16 hours.

Now it appears that the problem with the trains may have been the ingesting of snow in France, into the power car, because of the incredibly bad weather in France. Eurostar is now looking at putting snow shields on the power cars to keep the snow out. In the meantime, 60,000 people are stranded that had reservations.

If you are an east coast reader, you already know this. Record snowfalls are slowing down everything on the east coast. D.C. got an entire year’s worth of snow in one storm making it the snowiest December on record.

The Appalachian American did make it into Charlotte airport after a delay at O’Hare on Saturday. Unfortunately, his significant other, west of Charlotte, was

snowed in by about 2 feet of snow, forcing him to stay at the airport for 12 hours before roads were cleared enough to allow him to be picked up.

Unprecedented cold and snow have wreaked havoc in Europe with 15 dead overnight in Poland, alone. Airports in Manchester England and Paris France were closed for snow removal and de-icing until late Sunday afternoon. Two died of exposure in Southern Bavaria and authorities in Italy were warning of interruptions in the delivery of food supplies because of icy and snow clogged roads. A homeless man in the French Mediterranean port city of Marseille was found dead after temperatures plummeted to freezing.

How is this for an “inconvenient truth”, Al?

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) – President Hugo Chavez launched a federal police force on Sunday that he hopes will change the overwhelmingly negative image most Venezuelans have of their public security forces while reducing crime in one of Latin America’s most violent countries.

“We are going to defeat crime,” Chavez told uniformed cadets belonging to the newly formed National Bolivarian Police Force during his weekly television and radio show. “We are tackling one of our population’s most sensitive problems: crime prevention.”

How about that? That is the same thing that Obama wants to do.

Longtime readers will remember that I reported at the beginning of this year that Obama had plans to assemble and train a 500,000 member Para-military force, equipped and trained to the best military standards to act as a national police force.

Why do you suppose that we need this force? Well, like Chavez, we need to defeat crime! In our case, those pesky Tea Party participants need to be controlled. And Obama can’t count on the military to do it. For one thing, he is not allowed to use the military within our borders without declaring martial law and secondly, the military is sworn to uphold the Constitution, so the brass may not be receptive to cooperating with his plans.

With 500,000 highly trained and equipped Para-military soldiers, it is unlikely that isolated military units who try to resist or police forces could defend against such a force.

Aw geez. Now I am never going to be able to get through the security check at the airports again.

Uh oh-The other shoe is beginning to drop:

SHANGHAI DAILY: IT is getting harder for governments to buy United States Treasuries because the US’s shrinking current-account gap is reducing supply of dollars overseas, a Chinese central bank official said yesterday. The comments by Zhu Min, deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China,

referred to the overall situation globally, not specifically to China, the biggest foreign holder of US government bonds. Chinese officials generally are very careful about commenting on the dollar and Treasuries, given that so much of its US$2.3 trillion reserves are tied to their value, and markets always watch any such comments closely for signs of any shift in how it manages its assets. China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange reaffirmed this month that the dollar stands secure as the anchor of the currency reserves it manages, even as the country seeks to diversify its investments. In a discussion on the global role of the dollar, Zhu told an academic audience that it was inevitable that the dollar would continue to fall in value because Washington continued to issue more Treasuries to finance its deficit spending. He then addressed where demand for that debt would come from. “The United States cannot force foreign governments to increase their holdings of Treasuries,” Zhu said, according to an audio recording of his remarks. “Double the holdings? It is definitely impossible.” “The US current account deficit is falling as residents’ savings increase, so its trade turnover is falling, which means the US is supplying fewer dollars to the rest of the world,” he added. “The world does not have so much money to buy more US Treasuries.” China continues to see its foreign exchange reserves grow, albeit at a slower pace than in past years, due to a large trade surplus and inflows of foreign investment. They stood at US$2.3 trillion at the end of September.

Talk about a veiled threat! As noted in the article, China has to be very careful of what it says because of the amount of debt that it holds. This is the third or fourth time that they have told the 4th grade class to back off the spending. They don’t want us to turn into a communist country at the expense of the debt that they hold.

Sold! Out:

WASHINGTON — A $100 million item for construction of a university hospital was inserted in the Senate health care bill at the request of Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who faces a difficult re-election campaign, his office said Sunday night.

The legislation leaves it up to the Health and Human Services Department to decide where the money should be spent, although spokesman Bryan DeAngelis said Dodd hopes to claim it for the University of Connecticut.

The provision is included in a 383-page series of changes to the health care bill that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., outlined Saturday.

Just as Saul Alinsky, Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel have reiterated, “never let a good crisis go to waste” the dems apparently have one of their own: “Never let a good bill go without pork”!

Which U.S. Indian tribe is the largest?

In all, the Navajo population in the U.S. is about 250,000, the largest tribe in the nation. The Navajo Reservation, including Monument Valley, covers 17.5 million acres in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Navajos prefer to call themselves Dine (Di-NEH, or “the people”).

The two reasons that they are the largest tribe in the nation today is that they had the good sense not to fight an unwinnable battle with the white man and secondly, they lived in an area that the white man didn’t really want.

Global warming update:

Valdez socked in

All the experts says the effects of climate change will be felt most in Alaska, home of the ex-governor who contends climate change is no big deal.

Good thing she wasn’t in Valdez this week when the citizenry got buried under a record snowfall. We’re not talking about your ordinary little dump here. That was in Copenhagen, where world leaders were meeting to discuss what to do about global warming and the Bloomberg news service was warning that Barack Obama and the rest would “face freezing weather as a blizzard dumped 10 centimeters (4 inches) of snow on the Danish capital overnight.”

Four inches overnight? Valdez got more than four inches per hour at the height of the snowstorm that began there Monday and ran through the week. By the time the citizens of Alaska’s only oil port finally caught a break, the snow was piled 5 feet, 8 inches deep.

Yes, you read right.

Five feet, 8 inches; over the head of your average American woman, up the nose of your average American man. The National Weather Service called it record. Fire hydrants were buried so deep under snow not even Tiger Woods could have hit them.

Not that residents are letting it bother them too much. At Valdez City Hall Thursday afternoon, accounting clerk Chris Moulton looked out the window and didn’t see any lights on in other buildings — City Hall has a generator, he said, but it looked like everyone else was in the dark.

I really don’t have to say anything more, here.

 

 

Final Senate healthcare bill released by Reid in drive for 60

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has unveiled a final version of his healthcare reform legislation containing a plethora of changes designed to lock down the 60 votes he needs to pass the historic legislation on Christmas Eve. Reid formally introduced the legislative language on the Senate floor Saturday morning… Despite the delay the bill reading will cause, Reid’s gambit strongly suggests that he has united his caucus of 58 Democrats and two independents behind a measure that would…make fundamental changes to the U.S. healthcare system. If Reid is able to keep his 60 Democrats in hand through a vote to approve the Senate bill scheduled for 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, he will deliver a major victory to President Barack Obama. House and Senate Democrats would then confer during the holiday break and into January on the version that would go to Obama for a signature. Numerous attempts to find a compromise acceptable to both camps failed, leading Reid to pin his hopes on siding with the centrists and counting on the liberals not to walk away…

Reid’s most crucial political compromise was on abortion, the biggest bone of contention for centrist Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), an abortion opponent who failed in his attempt to amend the bill on the floor with stronger language shielding federal insurance subsidy funds from paying for abortion services and rejected previous compromises offered by Reid and Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-Pa.), who both also oppose abortion rights. After private talks between Reid, Nelson and other Democrats that ran late into Friday night, however, Nelson signed off on the new language and other provisions that cleared the way for him to support the healthcare bill. The language is complex but the biggest change is that states would be permitted to prohibit plans sold within their borders through the health insurance exchange from covering abortion services.

The early response from abortion-rights supporters was positive, as Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer (Calif.) and Patty Murray (Wash.) issued a joint statement saying they preserved the principle that women can use their own money to purchase abortion coverage through plans on the insurance exchange. Nelson also won a major concession on the proposed expansion of Medicaid to everyone with incomes below 133 percent of the federal poverty level. Nelson, along with governors of both political parties, expressed anxiety that the expansion would burden state budgets. (Which I had concerns with about 6 months ago) Under the manager’s amendment, the federal government will cover more of the cost of the expansion than under the original bill, with special additional funding for Nebraska.

“Thanks to Sen. Ben Nelson for announcing his support for the Senate health care bill, making him our 60th vote,” Reid tweeted Saturday morning.

Nelson did not win every battle, however, as Reid preserved the CLASS Act language in the bill, authored by the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), to create a voluntary federal insurance program for home- and community-based long-term care services. No trace of the public option remains in the bill (read on) but Reid does offer new provisions to appeal to liberal senators, such as additional funding for Community Health Centers and the Children’s Health Insurance Program In addition, the amendment includes even stricter health insurance regulations and consumer protections than contained in the underlying bill, such as guaranteeing patients the right to appeal coverage denials and additional limitations on year-to-year premium increases that will take effect before the insurance exchange launches in 2014. The manager’s amendment also would require insurers to spend at least 80 percent of their premium income on medical claims and provide rebates to customers when they fail to meet that threshold. That’s pretty damn communistic if you ask me. Telling private industry how much they can make. Who’s next?

The legislation still contains an excise tax on high-cost, so-called Cadillac health insurance plans, which is strongly opposed by labor unions and many Democrats but is backed by the White House and is one of the biggest revenue raisers in the legislation. Opponents of the tax are looking to the House-Senate conference committee to roll it back; the Reid amendment makes minor changes, such as exempting longshoremen. The new language boosts the increase in the Medicare payroll tax that would hit people earning more than $200,000 and families earning more than $250,000 from 0.5 percent to 0.9 percent. The bill also reduces an annual levy on medical device manufacturers and replaces an excise tax on cosmetic surgery with a 10 percent excise tax on indoor tanning salons. Apparently, Pelosi couldn’t live with the tax on cosmetic surgery.

Reid retained one proposal that emerged from negotiations between liberal and centrist Democrats: the creation of multi-state, nonprofit health insurance plans that would be negotiated by the federal Office of Personnel Management, which manages the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, as an alternative to the traditional insurance plans that would be offered under the bill. Wait a minute. Isn’t that the same as a public option?

The new language also includes vouchers for some middle-income people to purchase health coverage on the new insurance exchange rather than from their employers if they earn too much to exempt from the individual mandate to buy insurance but not enough to qualify for federal subsidies. The so-called “free choice” provisions are based on a proposal by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). Small-business advocates such as Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) – who, with Nelson, were among the toughest sells in the Democratic caucus – won a concession that would provide workers at small firms with more generous and more immediate financial assistance.

A group of freshman Democratic senators, many of them also centrists, won the inclusion of more aggressive cost-containment measures based on those already in the bill. Under the manager’s amendment, cost-containment pilot projects would ramp up more quickly and the Department of Health and Human Services would have greater authority to expand those programs without additional legislation.

Reid cut provisions from the bill that would have prevented a 21.5 percent cut in doctors’ Medicare fees and replace it with a one-year hike. The House-passed measure includes a fix for 2010, however, and the defense spending bill approved by the Senate Saturday postpones the cut, which would kick in on Jan. 1, for two months. Reid told reporters that physician groups requested the change on the grounds that they want a permanent fix to their payment issues enacted in separate legislation.

Well, it’s bleeding over into the 21st century but it certainly explains the Lame Stream Media. It is just reflecting the administration.

Observation of the Day:

Measure wealth not by the things you have, but by the things you have for which you would not take money.

Observations:

The Queen of England boarded a commuter train yesterday afternoon and rode with all of the other passengers to the town where her estate is located. She did ride 1st class but was separated from the rest of the passengers by a glass door.

A spokesman said that she ordered the ticket in advance so it only cost $44.40. All of her attendants and security detail also purchased tickets.

And Obama takes his wife on a date to New York City and it costs us $2,000,000.00. What is wrong with this picture?

General Motors announced this morning that the talks to sell the Swedish car manufacturer Saab to Spyker Automotive have failed and Saab will be shut down.

Another proud automaker bites the dust, although I have never been a Saab fan.

Scary Harry (Reid) is now whipping his gunsels in the Senate into a froth with a target of voting on the health care bill on Christmas Eve. I rather consider that blasphemy. But then I pretty much consider most things the dems do as blasphemy.

Actually, it is Senator Jim DeMint, R-S.C. that is making it just as tough on the dems as he can. He also said he would not yield any time and if the dems want to pass the additional $290 Billion spending bill, they will be back the day after Christmas to vote on it.

You know that the democrats have not spent any time negotiating with the republicans. It has all been within their own party. I think that is pretty telling in itself.

I warned you yesterday about the hidden bill that looks like it will be sprung at the last minute and voted on. It is being developed behind closed doors and no one but Harry and his gunsels have seen it.

There is also the possibility that if the bill passes without a public option, they will amend a critical bill with the public option and sneak it through later on.

Folks, we have a real problem with our federal government.

And if things weren’t bad enough…now the Taliban has spent $26.00 for software and are hacking our drones in Afghanistan.

And the latest climate bombshell? An unsubstantiated report that Russian climate people have released a report accusing a leading English scientist of altering their temperature data and/or ignoring that which didn’t help the global warming theory!

I watched the president’s speech in Copenhagen; well, at least part of it before my eyes glazed over, and he is now blaming China for this deal not working because China has basically decided to be a non-player in this charade.

I guess the thing that really irritates me about Obama is the fact that he continues to press a highly financially destructive program in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary. A reasonable person would at least suggest waiting to see what the real truth was. His continued wrong-headed efforts in this issue are also evidence to me that he harbors bad feelings towards the people of this country.

Al Franken shut down Joe Lieberman when Lieberman asked for an extra minute to finish his remarks. John McCain stood up and flat called Franken wrong and said he has never seen such a thing during his time in the senate.

As far as I am concerned, Al Franken does not have the moral standing to hold Joe Lieberman’s coat. I think we would all be better

served if Franken would pursue a career in something more fitting, such as a night manager in sleazy sex shop on Hollywood Boulevard.

Speaking of sex, word has it that Tiger Woods is heading for Arizona to check into a treatment facility for sexual addiction. This, no doubt, would allow his handlers to claim that he is a victim.

I postulated a week or so ago that Tiger’s wife’s attorneys would pull the trigger on the divorce when they had enough evidence. That seems to be happening. While Florida is not a state known to be overly generous to wives, we hear that she will file for divorce in California where they also own a house.

To the extent that Tiger’s physical anatomy is tied to his financial anatomy, he could come out of this severely altered if not neutered.

And if things weren’t bad enough, Monica Lewinsky, the former presidential strumpet has announced that she will release a book next year in which she accuses President Clinton of lying under oath about their relationship.

Wait a minute. Wasn’t Clinton already found guilty of lying under oath? Isn’t that why he lost his law license? I fear the little Harley starter may be having flashbacks.

The dems are at it again:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Wednesday passed legislation giving the federal government the ability to borrow a whopping $290 billion to finance its operations for just six additional weeks.

The 218-214 vote sends the must-pass bill to the Senate, which is expected to approve it as its last act before adjourning for the year. The alternative would be a market rattling, first-ever default on U.S. obligations.

The measure is needed as a result of the out-of-control budget deficit, which registered $1.4 trillion for the budget year that ended in September. The current debt ceiling is $12.1 trillion and is set to be reached by Dec. 31.

Democrats had hoped to pass a far larger increase of almost $2 trillion to avoid another vote before next year’s midterm elections - and to wrap the increase into the popular defense appropriations bill to give some political cover.

But that plan fell apart amid opposition from about a dozen Senate Democratic moderates, who say they will refuse to vote for a debt limit increase unless it is accompanied by legislation to establish a new bipartisan task force to come up with a plan to curb the deficit. That idea is opposed by Democratic leaders such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Can it be any plainer? The democratic leadership wants to spend us right into oblivion!

The thug is beginning to ooze out of Obama’s pores:

The group of 20, all Republicans, today called for a hearing in a letter to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., and the committee’s top Republican Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz

By the way, Nelson hasn’t caved in to Obama, so far!

A New Apolitical Party?

NEWSMAX: David Patten —The Tea Party Patriots conservative grassroots movement is now more popular than either major party according to a major new poll. According to the new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday, 41 percent of likely voters now have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party Patriots. That compares to a 35 percent favorable rating for Democrats and 28 percent for the GOP. The stunning conclusion: If the Tea Party Patriots were a political party – it is increasingly shifting its emphasis in a nonpartisan political direction – it would be the most popular party in America.

I’m telling you folks. This is working. Your activism is working. Keep spreading the message to everyone that you meet. If you happen to offend a liberal in the process, tell them to get over it! Keep after the congress through email and phone calls.

KERRY WAVERS: (So what else is new?)

THE HILL: Sen. John Kerry wavered Wednesday on whether Congress will accept a cap-and-trade system for controlling carbon emissions.

Kerry (D-Mass.) told reporters at the climate change summit in Copenhagen that he isn’t sure what system Congress will endorse for setting the prices companies will pay for carbon emissions.

Kerry and other advocates of greenhouse gas curbs say it is vital to create a system that makes industries pay for carbon emissions in order to reduce them and spur the development of green energies.

Folks; that actually reads that it is vital to create a system that makes you pay for our industries carbon emissions, because that is how it works.

Obama to negotiate new Strategic Arms Treaty:

U.S. officials say President Barack Obama and Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev plan to meet Friday during the U.N. climate talks as the two countries seek a deal to replace an expired Cold War-era arms control treaty.

It is no wonder that I am not sleeping at night! Having this guy negotiating a strategic arms treaty with Russia is like having Tim Allen on Home Improvement build a house from the ground up.

LOS ANGELES – For several years, Jude Stringfellow and her Lab-chow mix have toured the country with a simple message: Faith walks.

Born without front legs to a junkyard dog around Christmas 2002, Faith the puppy was rejected and abused by her mother. She was rescued by Reuben Stringfellow, now an Army E-4 specialist, who had been asked to bury other puppies in the litter.

“Can we fix her? Stringfellow, then 17, asked his mom. “No, but maybe we can help her,” she said.

So Reuben turned Faith over to his mother, English professor Jude Stringfellow. At first, the family had to carry Faith to keep her off her chest and chin. But with peanut butter and practice, Faith learned to walk on her two hind legs.

Today Faith is a brisk, upright walker. When she runs, every so often she adds a hop or skip to her step, but she stumbles less often than most humans. She takes vitamins and joint supplements, and vets have declared her very healthy, Stringfellow said.

Since her first step on March 22, 2003, Faith has done the talk show circuit, gone on tour with Ozzy Osbourne and been named an honorary Army sergeant. Jude Stringfellow has become a motivational speaker and written two books. Next year, the

two are moving from Ardmore, Okla., to Chicago where they plan to write a third called “Faith Walks.”

For many, Faith brings a powerful message about overcoming adversity. “Faith has shown me that different is beautiful, that it is not the body you are in but the soul that you have,” Jill Salomon of Montreal, Canada, wrote on Faith’s Web site.

Stringfellow will never forget a woman from New York who happened to see Faith on a street corner. She was depressed and had lost both legs to diabetes.

“She was in her wheelchair and saw us. She was crying. She had seen Faith on television. She just held her and said she wished she had that kind of courage.” Stringfellow said. “She told us: ‘I was on my way to pick up the gun.’ She handed the pawn ticket to a police officer and said she didn’t need it anymore.”

That sense of hope is especially important for Faith’s visits to Army bases. Last weekend she headed to Washington state, where she met with as many as 5,000 soldiers at McChord Air Force Base and Fort Lewis. Some of the soldiers were headed to war, some were coming back.

“She just walks around barking and laughing and excited to see them all,” Jude Stringfellow said. “There is a lot of crying, pointing and surprise. From those who have lost friends or limbs, there can be silence. Some will shake my hand and thank me, some will pat her on the head. There is a lot of quiet, heartfelt, really deep emotion.”

Faith never fails to bring a smile to a soldier’s face, said Patrick Mcghee, general manager at Fort Lewis.

“To see the children interact with Faith is simply priceless,” he said.

But Faith’s most emotional reunion — with Reuben Stringfellow, who rescued her 7 years ago this Christmas — will have to wait for January. He’s already gotten Faith a birthday present: a peanut butter cookie with her name on it.

This is one of the better news articles that I have had the privilege of reporting and frankly, one of the more important ones, as far as I am concerned.

Today’s link is a press release from Senator Mitch McConnell regarding Harry Reid’s latest outrage.

And I do mean outrage. If you don’t get on the phone or computer and contact your senator, democratic or otherwise, then I guess we will get what we deserve.

All we have to do is let one of these deals go through and the democrats will continue to use this dishonesty to run the country as long as they are in control. And everything that they are doing is helping to make sure that they stay in control!

Observations:

Well, Obama is now resorting to all out lies. The guy is apparently getting really desperate. In a recent interview with Charley Gibson on ABC (the official white house news network), that if Congress didn’t pass the health care bill, that the country would go bankrupt. Bankrupt!!!!

He went on to say, “If we don’t pass it, here’s the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they’re going to drop your coverage, because they just can’t afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. “

The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”

The 5000-pound gorilla in the room that Obama apparently doesn’t see is that it is the government that is running Medicare and Medicaid into the ground right now.

The other issue is that even Obama’s advisors are telling him that the health care bill will raise premiums.

I can just about guarantee one thing folks. If Obama gets his way and we have a public option, it won’t be long before the government is scraping off at least 15% of your gross income for health care.

The SEIU is backing away from the health care bill because it apparently isn’t radical enough for them. When the public option and the early buy-in to Medicare were cut in the Senate bill, they backed off.

One can’t help but wonder if they figure that the public option will increase costs so much that everyone will want to become union members for their insurance, which Obama has promised won’t be taxed like regular folks private insurance plans will.

Have you ever wondered if the name of Quentin Tarentino’s film, Inglorious Basterds, was misspelled on purpose or because someone was too stupid to use spell check?

Apparently, things aren’t going well at the climate summit in Copenhagen. With all of the infighting going on, it is seriously behind schedule. The Climate Secretary warned of a “Farce”. (Too late. It has been a farce from the beginning.)

And if things aren’t bad enough, President Chavez brought the house down.

When he said the process in Copenhagen was “not democratic, it is not inclusive, but isn’t that the reality of our world, the world is really an imperial dictatorship…down with imperial dictatorships” he got a rousing round of applause.

When he said there was a “silent and terrible ghost in the room” and that ghost was called capitalism, the applause was deafening.

But then he wound up to his grand conclusion – 20 minutes after his 5 minute speaking time was supposed to have ended and after quoting everyone from Karl Marx to Jesus Christ - “our revolution seeks to help all people…socialism, the other ghost that is probably wandering around this room, that’s the way to save the planet, capitalism is the road to hell….let’s fight against capitalism and make it obey us.” He won a standing ovation.

Just in case you had any doubt, these are the people who are busy deciding your kid’s future, as well as your own.

Just to keep you up to date, the Labor Department said Thursday that the number of new jobless claims rose to 480,000 last week, up 7,000 from the previous week. That was a worse performance than the decline to 465,000 that economists had expected.

I think January could be really ugly.

Obama just signed a $1.1 Trillion spending bill that increased spending by about 10% across the board. As bad as things are, there were about 4,000 pork projects at a cost of $3.9 Billion in the bill.

I reported this last week but was hoping that when push came to shove Obama, the champion of the line item veto during his campaign, would live up to his promise. But he hasn’t on anything else, so why would I think this would be different?

More Trouble in Paradise:

NEWSBUSTERS: Pour some more butter on the popcorn . . .

Yesterday, Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs took shots at Howard Dean and his opposition to ObamaCare, suggesting the good doctor didn’t know what he was talking about.

It was payback time this morning, as Dean announced that he would “not vigorously” back Pres. Obama’s re-election bid.

It just warms the cockles of my heart to watch their little spats.

Global Warming update:

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) — World leaders flying into Copenhagen today to discuss a solution to global warming will first face freezing weather as a blizzard dumped 10 centimeters (4 inches) of snow on the Danish capital overnight.

“Temperatures will stay low at least the next three days,” Henning Gisseloe, an official at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute, said today by telephone, forecasting more snow in coming days. “There’s a good chance of a white Christmas.”

Delegates from 193 countries have been in Copenhagen since Dec. 7 to discuss how to fund global greenhouse gas emission cuts. U.S. President Barack Obama will arrive before the summit is scheduled to end tomorrow.

Denmark has a maritime climate and milder winters than its Scandinavian neighbors. It hasn’t had a white Christmas for 14 years, under the DMI’s definition, and

only had seven last century. Temperatures today fell as low as minus 4 Celsius (25 Fahrenheit).

It just keeps getting worse:

Just as the Copenhagen climate summit appeared to be on the verge of unraveling, the United States Thursday announced its support of an annual $100 billion climate protection fund, the Associated Press reports.

“The US is prepared to work with other countries toward a goal of jointly mobilizing $100 billion a year by 2020 to address the climate change needs of developing countries,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.

She’s talking just like we have that kind of money. You know who will be putting up the major part of the $100,000,000,000.00 per year, don’t you? And it will hit about the time that our population is finding out that the true cost of the Obama care is $2 Trillion, not $1 Trillion as Pelosi and Reid had promised us.

For new readers, I have in past newsletters, reported on the sleight of hand that the dems have used to keep the cost of the health care to around $1Trillion over a 10 year period. They don’t phase it in for several years, with the House version cost for 6 years and the Senate version at 5 years. So one can effectively double the amount for a true cost.

Greenspan holds forth on democrat folly:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on Thursday endorsed a proposed bipartisan commission to help make the tough calls needed to get the spiraling and record U.S. debt under control.

Testifying before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Greenspan warned that the United States must quickly begin to erase red ink to avert possible disaster.

“Our nation has never before had to confront so formidable a fiscal crisis as is now visible just over the horizon,” said Greenspan, who headed the central bank from 1987 to 2006.

And yet Obama and the democrats continue to push us over the financial brink with their out of control spending plans. Makes one wonder what their real goal is.
