January 21, 2010 Breaking News

If democrats can lose in Massachusetts, they can lose anywhere! Well, except maybe in Minnesota.

Now Chlidren, our lesson for today is…

That those with the private 737’s make the rules?

Quote(s) of the Day:

“Our leadership is “whistling past the graveyard” if they think Brown’s win won’t force a rethinking of the health care plan.” Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)

“… the party needs to rethink its entire approach to governing.” Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.)

The party may start thinking about a new approach to governing but Obama won’t.

“The results prove that unhappiness with political leaders has “gone mainstream” and could hit anyone.” Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.)

What I find so amazing is that so many democrats are finally speaking out for the first time in the Obama era. I think Obama really had a lot of them intimidated…or, they are just rats leaving a listing ship.

“We’re not in a big rush” on health care, “Pause, reflect.”

Nancy Pelosi, January 20, 2010

Huh?

Observations:

Wow! Within 2 ½ hours of learning about Scott Brown’s victory, my fever broke. Judging from the severity of my affliction, I did suspect that I had contracted L1D1 (Liberal Democrat flu that acts on conservatives as anti-matter does on matter)

As heartening as Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts is, it will be pretty much be business as usual with some exceptions. First, we aren’t going to get rid of Pelosi without a Republican landslide in the house with 40 dems losing their seat, which is unlikely. She has also said that regardless of what happened in Massachusetts, she plans to jam the healthcare monstrosity down our throats.

The good news is, lost though it may be on Pelosi, that the Massachusetts vote apparently gave Obama a little religion. He has apparently been disabused of rushing a vote on the health care bill through before Scott Brown is seated.

However, with a guy like Obama, a set- back makes him more dangerous than ever. I somehow get the feeling that he is very angry with the American public because he takes this repudiation personally; And you thought his administration lacked transparency before.

Somehow, we have lost our representative government. These people seem to think that because they were elected to office, we have given them carte blanche to do what they want.

What is more important about all of this is that it is not just about the health care bill. The polls consistently report that the independents are not happy with anything that Washington is doing.

Put me in that category! It appears that this nation wasn’t as ready for Marxism as the 4th grade class thought.

All this good news notwithstanding, the sad fact still remains that the alternative ain’t all that great either. I still hold the Republicans responsible for paving the way for a guy to get elected that wants to turn this great nation into a banana republic.

The Republicans in congress during the past decade were a disgrace to the office they held. It is of great concern to me that if the republicans should gain control in 2012 that they will return to their irresponsible ways in congress. Maybe we ought to throw a bunch of them out for good measure.

And if things weren’t bad enough, Russia’s central bank announced that they have began buying Canadian dollars in a move to diversify their foreign exchange reserves and move away from the U.S. dollar and into commodity linked currencies like the Canadian and Australian dollar. The dollar has dropped 12% on a trade-weighted basis since March.

Oh, and did I mention, the dems are after an increase of $1.9 Trillion to the debt limit? The dems still have big plans for what little money you have left.

And if things weren’t bad enough, President Barack Obama will appear with politically embattled Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in Las Vegas next month, according to a White House official.

I think that this could be a dangerous move for Obama. If Reid tanks, it will drive another nail into Obama’s coffin of ineffectiveness. I suspect he is following Bill Clinton’s advice, who recently told him that the worst thing that he could do is do nothing. Depending on Clinton’s motives, this could be deliciously subtle.

And if this isn’t enough, Hugo Chavez has now accused the U.S. of detonating a weapon near Haiti that caused the earthquakes…

This should be in the history books by next week. I know. Last week, I chatted with a high school history teacher and he said that Haiti was the U.S’s fault.

I am not liking this one bit. The supreme court has struck down significant portions of the McCain Feingold bill that has to do with outlawing corporate contributions. While I am a great 1st amendment supporter, I do not consider corporations natural citizens.

Obama questions our intelligence-Twice Thrice Four Times: ABC NEWS: President Obama said today that he believes he lost a direct connection to the American people in his first year in office because he focused too heavily on policymaking.

“If there’s one thing that I regret this year is that we were so busy just getting stuff done and dealing with the immediate crises that were in front of us that I think we lost some of that sense of speaking directly to the American people about what their core values are and why we have to make sure those institutions are matching up with those values,”

Obama told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview at the White House.

The president said he made a mistake in assuming that if he focused on policy decisions, the American people would understand the reasoning behind them. Folks, the mistake he made is assuming we wouldn’t understand the reasoning behind his policy decisions. This is so arrogant.

“That I do think is a mistake of mine,” Obama said. “I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we’re making a good rational decision here, then people will get it.”

Instead, the president said the American people ended up with a “feeling of remoteness and detachment” from the policymakers in Washington who are making big decisions. How many ways can one man say that we are too stupid to understand what he is doing? That horse’s ass is putting the blame for Massachusetts on us!

“I think, you know, what they ended up seeing is this feeling of remoteness and detachment where there’s these technocrats up here making decisions. Maybe some of them are good, maybe some of them aren’t, but do they really get us and what we’re going through?” he said.

Lost touch, my fanny. This guy is no fan of representative government and he could care less what we think unless it gets in the way of his agenda.

OK, here is where this guy really gets dangerous. He tried to jam his agenda down our throats and that is not working. Look for a whole new strategy. He will now attempt to ingratiate himself to the public before sticking the knife into the ribs on the other side.

“We’ll have to think through this next year from the standpoint of tactics but in substance the mission can’t change,”

President Obama to David Axelrod, Senior Advisor

New Job Claims jump “unexpectedly” in January:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A surprising jump in first-time claims for unemployment aid sent a painful reminder Thursday that jobs remain scarce six months into the economic recovery.

The surge in last week’s claims deflated hopes among some analysts that the economy would produce a net gain in jobs in January and help fuel the recovery.

Unexpected by who? I warned in November when the 4th grade class was all-atwitter with recovery rumors, that we would see a jump again in January.

It appears that Obama’s plan, either by design or accident is working just fine.

Feds to offer Temp legal status to 200,000 Haitians:

MIAMI HERALD: The Obama administration is preparing to handle applications from as many as 200,000 undocumented Haitian immigrants who want to live and work

legally in the United States under a new immigration program unveiled last week in the aftermath of Haiti’s destructive earthquake.

The federal government will begin accepting Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applications on Thursday, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas, whose agency will process the paperwork.

I’m taking bets on the prospect that they will never leave this country.

Wait until you read this:

LONDON TIMES: The UN’s top climate change body has issued an unprecedented apology over its flawed prediction that Himalayan glaciers were likely to disappear by 2035.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said yesterday that the prediction in its landmark 2007 report was “poorly substantiated” and resulted from a lapse in standards. “In drafting the paragraph in question the clear and well-established standards of evidence, required by the IPCC procedures, were not applied properly,” the panel said. “The chair, vice-chair and co-chairs of the IPCC regret the poor application of IPCC procedures in this instance.”

The stunning admission is certain to embolden critics of the panel, already under fire over a separate scandal involving hacked e-mails last year.

The 2007 report, which won the panel the Nobel Peace Prize, said that the probability of Himalayan glaciers “disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high”. It caused shock in Asia, where about two billion people depend on meltwater from Himalayan glaciers for their fresh water supplies during the dry seasons.

It emerged last week that the prediction was based not on a consensus among climate change experts but on a media interview with a single Indian glaciologist in 1999. That scientist, Syed Hasnain, has now told The Times that he never made such a specific forecast in his interview with the New Scientist magazine.

This is all such a bad joke!

Watch out, Folks

He gets more dangerous from here on in…

Definition for new readers: Yellow rat democrats, as opposed to Blue Dog Democrats, or just Democrats, are so named because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. Yellow Rat Democrats draw primarily from the so-called “progressive” democrats.

If you have watched the secrecy, lies and bribes that the democratic and house leaders have used to push the health care bill through, you understand what a yellow rat is.

January 18, 2010 Breaking News

Quote of the Day:“When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m sayin’?”            Danny Glover, Hollywood actor and climate twit referring to Haiti’s earthquake

You may hear about Pat Robertson’s comment but I bet you won’t hear this bandied about in the media.  They protect their own idiots.  Observations:Today is Blue Monday; officially the most miserable day of the year.  Everyday since last January 20th has been “Blue Monday”.

Have you noticed that Obama hasn’t held a press conference since July?He has given dozens of speeches and answered a few questions when with foreign leaders, but overall, the press has been cut out of directly questioning the president for the past 6 months.  This is all about controlling the press and using other channels to get information out without putting the president into a position where he might be asked embarrassing questions.

Take my word for it folks.  The new strategy is to follow the successful one that got him elected.  Control all information and how it is disseminated;   And he has done a very good job of letting out only the information that he wants us to have and none of it he doesn’t want us to have.

More trouble in Wonderland.  Nineteen states have now notified the 4th grade class that they want the same deal on Medicaid as the “Mad Hatter” of the senate cut with Nebraska; and if they don’t get it, they will sue.

Sometime ago I did a little math that indicated that in order to keep the health care bill within rational bounds, the 4th grade class planned to push an estimated $1.7 TRILLION in additional Medicaid costs onto the states.  As I pointed out, that would mean that the cost to taxpayers would be about $3.4 TRILLION over a 10-year period (without inflation).

Haiti is on everyone’s mind as the 4th grade class works into the wee hours to perfect their witch’s brew of economic poisoning for America.

I did note on a film clip that big guys were beating hell out of little guys and taking their survivor supplies.  I think the dems call that “Liberal Natural Selection”.            The U.N. also ordered out a 65 member Belgian Medical team from a hospital because of serious security concerns, leaving the seriously injured patients to fend for themselves overnight.

And if things weren’t bad enough already, the leading House Democrat on military policy, Rep. Ike Skelton, said Friday that he opposes repealing the law that bans openly gay people from serving in the military.  A leader in crafting the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy 17 years ago, under Bill Clinton, he says he is not personally for changing the bill.  Changing the bill in the middle of two wars could cause some serious problems, he believes.  Word has it that Obama is now eying D.C. for the Gitmo trials rather than New York City.

Not sure why the change except New Yorkers might have taken it as a personal slap in the face; or maybe he just wants it close so he can protect and manage the fellow muslims.  I wouldn’t worry too much about this happening.  As soon as someone in the 4th grade class realizes that the trial may draw the terrorists to D.C., it’s a good bet that they will change the venue again.

European governments reacted coolly on Friday to Washington’s call for others to follow its example and impose a levy on banks.

Apparently, Europe doesn’t much care for Obama’s brand of Marxism.  Especially when it will be counter-productive in the economy and hit the citizens even harder, as the banks will just pass on the higher cost to us through increased fees.

And if things weren’t bad enough already, now the global warming freeze may have damaged up to 30% of Florida’s Crops! Strawberry growers reportedly pumped so much water over their plants to encase them in ice to protect them from freezing that sink holes have been appearing.

And if things weren’t bad enough in Venezuela already,  Chavez has fired the head of his energy department, who,  in a desperate effort to keep a complete crash of the power grid from being  the only monument to Chavez’s political and managerial skills, had instituted four hour rolling blackouts across the country. And if things weren’t bad enough in China already, A rising number of Chinese provinces are preparing to introduce power rationing as electricity supplies lag behind demand amid harsh winter weather.  The government is urging coal and gas suppliers to increase shipments.  Reportedly, coal stocks at power plants that produce 80% of China’s power are at a seventeen month low.

Let’s see.  Freeze to death-Burn coal.  What a conundrum!            GLOBAL WARMING, INDEED

And if that isn’t enough to convince you that we are experiencing global warming, late last week, 26 patients in a psychiatric hospital in Havana froze to death overnight in Cuba where low temps hit 38 degrees.

The stock market took its largest drop so far this year, Friday.  J.P. Morgan–Chase’s stock dropped, even with the announcement that they has recorded a 4 – fold increase in earnings for the fourth quarter last year of $300 + billion.  The dampening effect apparently came from Chase’s announcement that they may not see a break in increasing loan losses due to continuing foreclosures this year.  Wall Street’s top lobbying group has now hired a top supreme court litigator to study the possibility of mounting a constitutional challenge to Obama’s new bank tax.

So, it’s not bad enough that they are wasting literally generations worth of tax dollars, but now they are going to end up wasting more defending constitutional challenges.  Folks.  If we don’t stop these guys now, it could very well be your kids that pick you up and dump you off at my Soylent Green factory for your inaction on these issues!

Today is the 20th anniversary of the arrest of the former mayor of the Peoples Republic of D.C., Marion Berry for possession of nose candy.  He was later convicted of a misdemeanor.

However, the poor guy that went through the wrong security door by mistake at JFK, leading to an evacuation of one terminal, is now facing several felony charges that could give him up to 7 years in prison.

And if things weren’t bad enough in America, already:Jan. 15 (Bloomberg) — Even if Democrats lose the special election to pick a new Massachusetts senator Tuesday, Congress may still pass health-care overhaul through a process called reconciliation, a top House Democrat said That procedure requires 51 votes rather than the 60 needed to prevent Republicans from blocking votes on President Barack Obama’s top legislative priorities. That supermajority is at risk as the Massachusetts race has tightened.

These dipsticks are really spooked about the Massachusetts’s race.  If the dems lose in Massachusetts now, it will be like discovering that your mother only gave you conditional love all of these years.   Using the so-called “nuclear option” in an improper setting could really backfire on the dems.  Keep this in mind when you write your congersfolk.  Make using the nuclear option a really ugly and dangerous thing for the dems.

Headline of the Day:Eye test that spots Alzheimer’s 20 years before symptoms:  Middle aged could be screened at routine opticians visit            London Mail

I’m not sure I want to know.  Aww Geez article of the Day:

TELEGRAPH U.K. :  The floor of a Weight Watchers clinic in Sweden collapsed beneath a group of 20 members of the weight loss programme who were gathered for a meeting…  Luckily, all of the dieters escaped uninjured and managed to move the scales to the corridor, which was not damaged in the accident, and were able to complete their weekly weigh in.  The cause of the floor’s collapse remains under investigation.

Well, duuuhh!

It takes a worried man to sing a worried song:

BOSTON (AP) - His health care bill at stake, President Barack Obama plans a trip to Massachusetts to campaign for endangered Senate Democratic candidate Martha Coakley amid release of a poll showing an edge for the Republican Party in the race to fill a Senate seat Democrats have held for over a half-century.

The dems are also staging a Hurricane Katrina style political aid program to rush assets into the state to bolster Coakley.

Dems look at bypassing Senate health care vote:
BOSTON (AP) - A panicky White House and Democratic allies scrambled Sunday for a plan to salvage their hard-fought health care package in case a Republican wins Tuesday’s Senate race in Massachusetts, which would enable the GOP to block further Senate action.
The likeliest scenario would require persuading House Democrats to accept a bill the Senate passed last month, despite their objections to several parts.

They are so desperate for anything that might be a facsimile of a victory, regardless how bad it is or how useless, is just stunning.  Their disregard for the welfare of the American people is truly breathtaking.

Quote of the Day:

“It is amazing how this scaremongering from climate change lobbyists keeps arising even though they are constantly being proved wrong.”

“Last year there was snow in Saudi Arabia and still they persist in saying the temperature is going up.”

Christopher Booker, author of “The Real Global Warming Disaster

Quote of the Day, Part II:

“In addition to the global warming challenges, we need to address ‘global cooling’ effects and to do so promptly,” he said.

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia as reported by Itar Tass News agency

Is he cracking a joke here?

Observations:

I can hardly believe the disingenuousness of the Wall Street bankers during their congressional hearings. “It seemed like the appropriate thing to do at the time.” Of course it did if you are a criminal!

Of particular loathsomeness is Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs (favorite mentor of the Tinkerbelle of the Treasury) who made $50 Million the previous year and was selling mortgaged securities to investors out the front door and betting they would go bad with credit default swaps through the back door.

I have long considered Wall Street an extremely well run criminal enterprise, but it now appears that it isn’t that well run. The bankers had little to say during the hearing except to admit their actions were criminal (my word-their word was improper).

These guys are smart guys. Any executive worth his salt saw the coming devastation and those that didn’t should be fired and banned from the industry. Those that did and continued because of personal avarice should be jailed.

And if things weren’t bad enough, President Obama proposed a sharp increase in the taxes paid by the nation’s largest financial institutions designed to raise $90 billion over the next decade while constraining the industry’s ability to take large risks and reap outsize rewards.

The problem with that, as I see it is that the banks are being pushed by the administration to increase their capitalization (which is why the banks kept the TARP money and didn’t lend it out) and to be more risk averse in their lending practices, while at the same time, they are being taken to task for not lending enough. For some reason the administration does not recognize the “catch 22″ in this.

And now, Obama has reached agreement with the unions to exempt them from the surtax on Cadillac health plans until 2018, thereby creating a privileged class of workers. Doesn’t the government have a responsibility to treat all classes fairly?

Even some democrats are beginning to doubt whether this health care bill will be constitutional. However, while it is in the courts, it is a good bet that the taxation provisions will go into effect, separating us all from money for health care that we will never see because the bill provides that the extra premiums that we pay for the first four years don’t go towards the health care bill; it is a giant slush fund for the administration.

A new Gallup poll has Obama dropping drastically among the independents that helped put him in office. He is down around 36% in his handling of the economy and the health care bill. Is this a good news issue, or what?

Now serial tax cheat, Charlie Rangel, is wading into the bad news pronouncements regarding the health care bill. This reinforces my belief that the dems are trying to lull us into a false sense of security.

And by the way, He has been caught twice over the past two years on cheating on up to a million dollars of his income. What happened to the ethics inquiry? I reported about 6 months ago that he made several large cash donations to several democratic house members which, ironically, included democratic members of the ethics committee that was investigating him. Only one of the committee members

returned the contribution and the others said they saw nothing wrong in accepting cash from the guy they were investigating.

While we are distracted by the devastation in Haiti, Obama and company are working hard behind closed doors to get an agreement on the health care bill. They do their best work when no one is looking.

Pelosi announces that they have dropped the millionaire’s surtax from their health care bill.

George Soros must have complained.

Speaking of that, Obama met two days ago with unions on the tax on Cadillac health plans which the unions vehemently oppose. Have you heard a word on what has come out of those talks? It’s been two days now.

Maybe it’s none of our business.

After being told to “stuff it” by the U.S. State Dept. responding to North Korea’s suggestion that the U.S. and North Korea sign a peace treaty officially ending the Korean war (Only an armistice was signed in 1953), North Korea has now announced that they will allow more American Tourists into the country this year.

Yeah, right. That’s where I want to spend my vacation. I think I will stick with Baghdad. Word has it that all of the Mobil ratings of hotels over there have a minus sign in front of the stars.

And if things weren’t bad enough, a New Jersey mother is arrested for cursing at a middle school principal.

Hey, the ACLU should be all over this one. I mean, we’re talking freedom of speech here!

And if things weren’t bad enough, now we find that IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman does not file his own taxes, in part because he believes the tax code is complex.

During an interview on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” program that aired on Sunday, Shulman said he uses a tax preparer for his own returns.

That’s probably why Charlie Rangel doesn’t pay a significant share of his taxes every year, it’s too complicated. Never mind that he chairs the committee that writes the tax code.

And Vice President Joe (Doofus) Biden, always the good ol’ boy, has apparently become alarmed with the lack of transparency in the Administration and is meeting today with several administration officials including some transparency czar. The meeting is off limits to the press! What can you add to that?

BREAKING HEALTH NEWS:

ABC NEWS: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration slammed Tylenol manufacturer McNeil Healthcare LLC during a media briefing this morning for what it called a slow response to problems at a facility in Puerto Rico that led to consumers becoming sickened by tainted pills.

“McNeil should have acted faster,” said Deborah Autor, director of the FDA’s Office of Compliance, of the arm of Johnson & Johnson that manufactures Tylenol products…

A recall of Tylenol products that began last month with the popular Tylenol arthritis caplet expanded this morning to include more than two dozen other over-the-counter products manufactured by McNeil.

McNeill initiated a voluntary recall of Tylenol Arthritis Relief Caplets at the end of December after consumer complaints of stomach problems. The problems were linked to the presence of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA)…

Now it appears that the problem extended into other Tylenol products as well, according to the FDA.

Tylenol Extra Strength, Rolaids and a number of children’s medicines are now included in the recall, which affects 27 products in various packaging quantities.

Thought you should know about this. I just heard about it this morning so apparently the recall hasn’t been widely advertised. I am not a Tylenol user because it is so hard on the liver but many of you may be.

4th Grade class comes up with a creative new excuse:

THE HILL: A big reason why the government is inefficient and ineffective is because Washington has outdated technology, with federal workers having better computers at home than in the office.

This startling admission came Thursday from Peter Orszag, who manages the federal bureaucracy for President Barack Obama.

The public is getting a bad return on its tax dollars because government workers are operating with outdated technologies, Orszag said in a statement that kicked off a summit between Obama and dozens of corporate CEOs.

“Twenty years ago, people who came to work in the federal government had better technology at work than at home,” said Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget. “Now that’s no longer the case.

“The American people deserve better service from their government, and better return for their tax dollars.”

In my opinion, the American people are getting serviced way to well by the federal government. You gotta give ‘em credit, tho. Now that they can’t blame Bush anymore, who would have thought that the 4th grade class would blame computers for their ineptness.?

Libs rough up reporter at fundraiser for asking hard questions:

BOSTON HERALD: Weekly Standard reporter says he was roughed up last night outside a Washington, D.C. fund-raiser for Attorney General Martha Coakley by someone he believes is associated with her U.S. Senate campaign.

According to McCormack’s account, Coakley took two questions from reporters after the event, but declined to respond to his question.

“TWS: Attorney General Coakley, you said last night that there are no terrorists in Afghanistan–that they’re all in Yemen and Pakistan. Do you stand by that remark?

COAKLEY: I’m sorry, did someone else have a question? Then answered another reporter’s question.

McCormack wrote after Coakley finished her answer he followed her and asked her why health care industry lobbyists were supporting her at the fundraiser. He said she did not reply.

As he continued to walk down the street, he said a man who appeared to be associated with Coakley’s campaign pushed him into a freestanding metal rail.

“I ended up on the sidewalk. I was fine. He helped me up from the ground, but kept pushing up against me, blocking my path toward Coakley down the street,” he wrote.

McCormack wrote he eventually caught up to Coakley, who declined to answer his question.

Peace and love, my fanny!

Coakley said that she was not privy to the details of the dustup because she didn’t see what happened. If there is one thing you can count on in this world, it is that libs will lie. Here is a picture of her that shows her standing over the downed reporter looking at him.

Coakley is now blaming GOP “stalkers” for the problem. Funny. I never considered members of the legitimate press as stalkers.

Study: Cellphone use fights Alzheimer’s:

TAMPA, Fla. (UPI) — U.S. researchers say they’re surprised to discover radiation from cell phones may protect against and even reverse Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers at the Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, led by University of South Florida neuroscientist Gary Arendash, said exposing old Alzheimer’s mice to electromagnetic waves from cell phones erased brain buildups of a harmful

protein known as beta amyloid and eliminated memory problems typical of Alzheimer’s. The radiation also prevented beta amyloid buildup in younger Alzheimer’s mice, the researchers said in a study funded in part by the National Institute on Aging and published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. In fact, exposing normal mice to cell phone radiation for two hours a day over seven to nine months actually improved their cognitive abilities compared with so-called control mice tested in a parallel experiment for comparison, Arendash and colleagues said. The highly controlled study let researchers isolate the effects of cell phone exposure on memory from other lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise, the researchers said. It involved 96 mice, most of which were genetically altered to develop beta amyloid plaques and memory problems mimicking Alzheimer’s disease as they aged. “It surprised us to find that cell phone exposure, begun in early adulthood, protects the memory of mice otherwise destined to develop Alzheimer’s symptoms,” Arendash said. “It was even more astonishing that the electromagnetic waves generated by cell phones actually reversed memory impairment in old Alzheimer’s mice.”

Of course, the bad news is that the radiation might give you brain cancer.

The whole scoop on what is happening in Massachusetts:

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts’s top election official says it could take weeks to certify the results of the upcoming U.S. Senate special election. That delay could let President Barack Obama preserve a key 60th vote for his health care overhaul even if the Republican who has vowed to kill it wins Democrat Edward M. Kennedy’s former seat.

Secretary of State William F. Galvin, citing state law, says city and town clerks must wait at least 10 days for absentee ballots to arrive before they certify the results of the Jan. 19 election. They then have five more days to file the returns with his office.

Galvin bypassed the provision in 2007 so his fellow Democrats could gain a House vote they needed to override a veto of then-Republican President George W. Bush, but the secretary says U.S. Senate rules would preclude a similar rush today.

The potential delay has become a rallying point for the GOP, which argues Democrats have been twisting the rules to pass the health care bill despite public opposition. It’s also prompted criticism from government watchdogs…

Massachusetts Democrats already changed state law last fall so the governor could appoint a fellow Democrat to fill the seat after Kennedy died in August.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, the 4th grade class is in a throttle to the firewall lather to get the health care done before the Massachusetts vote can be certified because they are terrified that they can’t hold the state. That is like Putin not being able to hold Russia!

Update:

“That is the stupidest thing I’ve been asked in a long time. That is insane, the suggestion could only come from a demented right wing source,” erupted Representative Barney Frank (D - MA), when asked by The Washington Times about what he thought of assertions that Massachusetts Democrats would stall the certification process should Mr. Brown win. “There isn’t the slightest possibility of it happening—a way of doing it. That is conspiracy theory at its most contemptible.”

The Boston Herald reported that, according to a source, Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin’s office wants to certify the race on Feb. 20.

Well, Elmer Fudge’s protestations to the contrary notwithstanding, as the Secretary of State had already preemptively refuted his argument by giving a certification date that is twice the maximum time limit required by law. Then, of course, the dems may arrange for the swearing in to be delayed, also.

I can’t believe that there is a republican running a too close to call race in Massachusetts, in the first place. Maybe the libs are beginning to wake up too. Nah.

Trouble in paradise:

NEW YORK DAILY POST: Conan O’Brien broke down in tears yesterday while reading to his writing staff his 553-word statement that he no longer wants to host the “The Tonight Show” if it’s moved to midnight, an insider said.

With Conan out of the picture, Jay Leno will take back “The Tonight Show” by March 1, if not sooner, sources said.

But he was his sardonic self at the show’s LA taping last night, introducing himself as “soon to be available for children’s birthday parties,” and saying how it was “always my dream to host ‘The Tonight Show’ for seven months.”

Well, how would you feel if you hosted a show called “Tonight” that wasn’t broadcast until ” Tomorrow”?

Many people appear to be angry with Leno, but frankly, he didn’t have a thing to do with this. In fact, the head of NBC forced Leno to agree to leave the Tonight show in 5 years in order for NBC to save Conan O’Brien from going to Fox.

Interestingly enough, the local Fox affiliate ran a poll the other morning, asking how many viewers would like to see O’Brien show up late night on its station. 65% said no, 35% said yes, which may say more about Fox’s current demographic than it does about O’Brien and may be why Fox wants him.

Now NBC has given O’Brien an ultimatum telling him that they could keep him off the air for 3 more years. O’Brien quipped that being on NBC was the same thing.

Obama requests a record $708 Billion for war for next year:

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will ask Congress for an additional $33 billion to fight unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of a record $708 billion

for the Defense Department next year, The Associated Press has learned - a request that could be an especially hard sell to some of the administration’s Democratic allies.

The extra $33 billion in 2010 would mostly go toward the expansion of the war in Afghanistan. Obama ordered an extra 30,000 troops for that war as part of an overhaul of the war strategy late last year.

Military officials have suggested that the 2011 request would top $700 billion for the first time, but the precise figure has not been made public.

I’m thinking the guy has tasted blood and is liking it. Of course, a portion of that money could also be diverted for the start up of his national police force, something near and dear to his heart.

Sheep has human faced lamb in Turkey:

PRAVDA: A sheep gave birth to a dead lamb with a human-like face. The calf was born in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Turkey.

Erhan Elibol, a vet, performed Cesarean section on the animal to take the calf out, but was horrified to see that the features of the calf’s snout bore a striking resemblance to a human face.

“I’ve seen mutations with cows and sheep before. I’ve seen a one-eyed calf, a two-headed calf, a five-legged calf. But when I saw this youngster I could not believe my eyes. His mother could not deliver him so I had to help the animal,” the 29-year-old veterina

The lamb’s head had human features on – the eyes, the nose and the mouth – only the ears were those of a sheep.

Veterinaries said that the rare mutation most likely occurred as a result of improper mutation since the fodder for the lamb’s mother was abundant with vitamin A.

Apparently, the muslims covering up their women isn’t solving their problem.

Stay alert folks,

These government guys aren’t done with us

January 13, 2010 Breaking News

Quote of the Day:

“A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.”

Bill Clinton, referring to Obama, to Teddy Kennedy when he was trying to secure Teddy’s endorsement for Hillary during the campaign (as quoted from the book “Game Change”.

I have been saying the dems are racial hypocrites for years. The sad thing about this is that there are millions of misguided democrats out there that took them at their word.

Quote of the Day; Part II:

“Iran will have the technology to build a nuclear weapon by early next year.”

–Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Dec. 28.

And still, the free world’s first line of defense remains Obama’s jawbone.

Observation of the Day:

Wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up by itself.

My greatest fear…Thanx Rob

Reader Feedback:

Sara Palin on Fox News? Another reason I have to never watch Fox News. They must really be getting hard up. Don’t they have enough other screwballs already? Thanx, Rob

As I have said before, the jury is still out on Palin as far as I am concerned. While she was being savaged by the lame stream media, they did not take into consideration the huge amount she had to learn in such a short time to fend off the media sharks. I am just watching and waiting to see how she does later on with some preparation. She sure sounds like she comes from Minnesota, tho.

In regard to my comment in a recent newsletter regarding the fact that law enforcement had been lax for not jailing the administration.

Let me remind you that Obozo heads the “Executive” branch of the government

which is the “enforcement” arm of government. Of course law enforcement is not

going to take any action when the chief enforcement figure of the government is

one of the dirtiest crooks and isn’t about to let law enforcement loose to do

anything. He runs the Justice Department the same as he is the Commander in

Chief. Nothing happens without his approval. The local yokels have no

jurisdiction to investigate this stuff. If Sheriff Joe were able, rest assured

he would turn the tables, investigate them all and have them all on his chain

gangs. Thanx Dale

Observations:

The Medicare trustee just announced that with either health care bill, the cost of health care would rise and would cost taxpayers an additional $222 Billion by 2019, no small amount. That is about twice what California’s annual budget is.

Word has it that $20,000 has found its way from the coffers of the Republican National Committee to the Northern Mariana Islands. It could be in support of local candidates but more likely, a political payback from RNC Chairman Michael for their support in elevating him to his current position. While the five island constituencies have no electoral votes, they have as many members on the R.N. committee as any state, according to RNC rules.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, liberal radio man, Ed Schulz says that he has been contacted by a top North Dakota dem to run for office in place of retiring N.D. Dem, Byron Dorgan. Ed also hosts the Ed Show on MSNBC.

Never heard of Ed Schulz. I hope he isn’t as sleazy as Franken. Actually, as Democrats go, Dorgan wasn’t too bad.

And if things weren’t really bad enough, 19 year old Bristol Palin has launched her own P.R. firm in Anchorage, AK. It is called BSMP LLC.

Well, she’s a pro, you know…I mean, didn’t she give her mom a ton of publicity when her mom was running for VP? Maybe the Republicans can hire her to do P.R. work for Obama.

And if things weren’t bad enough, this just in from the National Climatic Data Center of NOAA. “The average temperature in December 2009 was 30.2 F. This was -3.2 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average”…

Is this global warming you can believe in? Oh, and it was 36 degrees at the Miami, Florida airport Monday morning.

And if things aren’t bad enough, a guy in Miami, Florida was found yesterday in his living room, frozen to death. His roommate was found there also nearly dead from hypothermia.

What can I say?

And now we hear that a former FEMA worker Lashonda Booker and her cousin, Peggy Hilton, have been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud in Mississippi. Apparently they mined the FEMA database for people applying for funds and then submitted requests that funds be sent to a bank account…to the tune of $721,000.00!

I am really starting to become distraught over the continuing malaise in the economy. In Maricopa County alone, I am told “unofficially” by several large residential brokers that there are 75,000 vacant homes, many which have not even been foreclosed on yet and some just in the process. (If you ever thought about moving to Phoenix, and you can afford it, now is the time to steal a house). Couple that with 20,000,000 sq. ft. of vacant office, 17,000,000 sq. ft. of vacant retail and 43,000,000 sq. ft. of vacant industrial space and I am failing to see the recovery in the economy about which the Obama administration is crowing.

There are only two places in the economy that I see doing well in the U.S., the investment banks on Wall Street (Thank you Timothy Geithner) and the job market in Washington D.C.

I can’t help but wonder if the administration will be forced to place another moratorium on residential foreclosures soon. They have been running at over 300,000 a month for the past year. This is just a major bloodletting.

As the TELEGRAPH U.K. recently put it: “The labour force contracted by 661,000. This did not show up in the headline jobless rate because so many Americans dropped out of the system. The broad U6 category of unemployment rose to 17.3pc. That is the one that matters.

I warned you about 8 months ago that, given the administration’s inaction on the job front, we were facing real unemployment in the 17-20% area. Well, it’s happening. So far, Obama’s efforts, or lack thereof, have really done nothing for job creation.

What really bothers me is that we have learned tons about managing the economy since the depression of the 30’s and yet Obama keeps going back to those depression era methods, even though many have been previously proven to be counter-productive.

And now, China has replaced the U.S. as the world’s largest automobile market. It has also passed Germany in automobile exports.

Any of you see the little old lady in Wisconsin yesterday taking on Wisconsin’s senator in the town hall? At least the congersperson has the guts to have a town hall. Most of the elected democrats in Arizona don’t have the guts to do that.

And if things weren’t bad enough, have you heard the latest from America’s token communist nation, Massachusetts? You remember when they had an interim senator to replace Kennedy and they rushed them to congress before they were certified and swore them in so they could vote on the health care bill? Well, now the libs have awakened to the fact that a Republican could very well win the election so the libs are trying to change the law again to delay certification until after the health care vote. These people are pure slime!

Republicans are now calling for Harry Reid’s resignation for the racially insensitive comments that I reported a couple of days ago. The dems are saying that it isn’t that bad and Reid did apologize to Obama. Under normal circumstances, I would probably go along with that, but one must remember that it was Harry Reid that forced Trent Lott to resign over some comments he made. Turnabout is fair play, folks.

In the latest CBS poll (Liberal spoken here) Obama’s approval rating on his handling of the health care reform has plummeted to 36% and yet the dems continue to try to ram it down our throat!

And a little note to Big Sis, still an open borders fan. Drug violence in Mexico has escalated exponentially in the past couple of years and it is spilling over into the U.S. Since 2001 there have been 20,000 drug related murders in Mexico, over 10,000 of them in the past two years alone. And they are getting more grotesque. Last week, a victim’s face was peeled off his skull and sewn to a soccer ball.

I am really getting concerned that if we don’t take some definitive action soon, one of these battles are going to spill over the border (actually, they already have) and leave a bunch of U.S. citizens dead in the aftermath.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now they are setting up the Doomsday clock at 3 PM today. Influences include nuclear proliferation (N. Korea, Iran etc) Increased use of nuclear power as a clean source of energy. (My how things change. The libs are singing the praises of nuclear power now. It wasn’t’ too long ago that they literally stopped the nuclear industry dead in its tracks.)

President of U.S. Chamber of Commerce reading my Newsletter: (apparently)

THE HILL: U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue warned the U.S. faces a double-dip recession because of the taxes and regulations under consideration by the Democratic Congress and President Barack Obama. “Congress, the administration and states must recognize that our weak economy

simply could not sustain all the new taxes, regulations and mandates now under consideration. It’s a sure-fire recipe for a double-dip recession, or worse,” Donohue said in a speech providing the Chamber’s outlook for 2010.

Donohue said the lawmakers should not let former President George W. Bush’s tax cuts expire at the end of year and lambasted Democratic efforts on healthcare and financial regulatory reform as well as climate change.

He also faulted Obama and Democratic lawmakers for not doing more to create jobs.

There it is folks. What have I been yelling about for the past 6 or 8 months? About the Obama policies pushing us into a double dip recession! And have I not been raving about the lack of action on job creation on the administrations part? You betcha!

My question is, why has it taken so long for all these so-called experts to catch on to all the problems that have been happening for a year? From this guy on the economy to John McCain just catching on that Obama is not just business as usual and that he actually poses a significant threat to the welfare of this country.

Something you should know about:

THE GUARDIAN-UK–Stone announced yesterday that a 10-hour crash course in the history of the 20th century he is putting together for American TV is designed as an antidote to the inaccuracies and biases he believes exist in the conventional historical narrative dished out in American schools and mainstream media. The title alone gives an inkling of what lies ahead: Oliver Stone’s Secret History of America.

The thrice-Oscar winning director gave a further glimpse into his thinking at a gathering of TV critics in Pasadena on Saturday, when he didn’t so much open up a can of worms as unleash an entire supermarket shelf-load. He began by startling the panel by bringing up the H word.

“Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and it’s been used cheaply,” he said. Then he mentioned the S word. “Stalin has a complete other story. Not to paint him as a hero, but to tell a more factual representation. He fought the German war machine more than any person.”

Then he went on to mention two M words – Chairman Mao and Joseph McCarthy, architect of the 1950s anti-communist purges in Washington, and the T word – Harry Truman’s dropping of the atom bomb in 1945.

Of the many potential storms that could be brewing over his Secret History, which will be broadcast by the cable channel Showtime later this year, Hitler promises to be the most incendiary. Stone told the Television Critics Association that “we can’t judge people as only ‘bad’ or ‘good’. [Hitler] is the product of a series of actions. It’s cause and effect. People in America don’t know the connection between WWI and WWII.”

The implication that Stone is seeking to put forward a good side of the German dictator hitherto not seen by Americans is, even by Stone’s own accomplished record of stirring up stinks, pretty radical.

This guy really needs to stifle himself. It appears that I won’t be re-subscribing to Showtime any time soon. This guy has inundated America with false drivel for years under the guise of history. Kind of like Al Gore, now that I think about it.

Healthcare hanging by a thread:

CNBC: Health care reform is “hanging on by a thread,” and one or two votes could determine the outcome of the heavily-debated bill, Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd told CNBC Monday.

“Everyone feels, I guess, to some degree who has been for this, that they would have liked something different…” Dodd said.

President Obama’s administration has come under fire lately for putting too much emphasis on health care reform, causing many to question whether Democrats will retain their majority control come November. But Dodd, who is retiring this year, said it’s an issue that needed to be dealt with — otherwise it would “strangle our economy,” he said.

This from the “Sleaze of the Senate”, Christopher Dodd. Even though he has gotten so bad that his constituency is planning to throw him out of office and he has decided to save himself the embarrassment by retiring, he continues to tell the progressive lies. As noted in previous issues of the newsletter, it will be the health care bill that will strangle the economy.

I don’t think it is in as big trouble as he makes it out to be. This could be to lull us into complacency so they can blind side us. However, I do think the bill is currently vulnerable.

I urge you to contact your democratic representatives and threaten them with a pink slip and a vow to become politically active for the first time in your life and work to unseat them in the upcoming election(s) if they vote for this abomination.

In trade, too often, the victim is blamed:

By Leo W. Gerard, International President, United Steelworkers

THE HILL: A screwy thing happened after the United Steelworkers and eight domestic steel producers won their trade case late in December against Chinese manufacturers of the steel pipe used for oil and gas drilling. Instead of describing it as an important victory for U.S. industry and workers, one in which they proved to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) that China violated international trade rules, the media characterized it as Americans unnecessarily picking a fight with the Chinese. What’s particularly disturbing about this stance from the media is that it occurs

only when a trade case involves manufactured goods. The media strongly supports protections for copyrighted material – movies, music etc. The media have made clear they oppose Chinese piracy of intellectual property – you know, like the written and filmed products that media members produce. But their reaction is completely different when the Chinese violate international rules regarding manufactured goods. Then, the media blame the victims — the U.S. industries and workers – the same way defense attorneys accuse rape victims. Here, for example, is the Washington Post contending that the ITC decision to impose duties of between 10.4 and 15.8 percent on Chinese pipe heightened trade hostilities between the U.S. and China: “The current tensions began in September, when the United States imposed a staggering 35 percent import fee on tires from China.” The Dow Jones Newswire in a story by Henry J. Pulizzi also blamed the U.S. with provoking a fight with the Chinese by imposing duties, beginning with a reference to the steel pipe decision:…

Still think the lame stream media is without an agenda?

The Frozen Crabs and the Blonde Flight Attendant:

A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde flight attendant to take care of them for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew’s refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning (in a very haughty manner) that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to rant at her about what would happen if she let them thaw out.

Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior. Shortly before landing in New York , she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, “Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in New Orleans , please raise your hand?” Not one hand went up … so she took them home and ate them. Two lessons here: 1. Lawyers aren’t as smart as they think they are. 2. Blondes aren’t as dumb as most folks think Thanx Dick

Long time readers know that Blondes are one of my favorite ethnic groups.

Keep after ‘em,

It appears that they may be close to breaking ranks

January 11, 2010 Breaking News Update

We don’t normally do this but I think you will want to watch this tonight on CBS.. These guys really party hardy, and its all on your dime!

An exclusive report that will air tonight on CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC reveals the alarmingly high number of members of Congress who got an all-expense paid trip to Denmark — on your dime!

Nancy Pelosi was at the summit. She called the shots on who got to go. Among them, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and embattled Chairman of the Tax Committee Charles Rangel They were joined by 17 colleagues from both parties: Democrats: Waxman, Miller, Markey, Gordon, Levin, Blumenauer, DeGette, Inslee, Ryan, Butterfield, Cleaver, Giffords, and Republicans: Barton, Upton, Moore Capito, Sullivan, Blackburn.

The House delegation was so large, it needed three military jets: two 737’s and a Gulfstream Five. Up to 64 passengers

Add Senators and staff, most of whom flew commercial, and there were at least 101 Congress-related attendees. All for a summit that failed to deliver a global climate deal. As a perk, some took spouses, since they could snag an open seat on a military jet or share a room at no extra cost to taxpayers.

Congresswoman Giffords and her husband,Moore Capito and her husband, Markey took his wife as did Sensenbrenner. Congressman Barton– a climate change skeptic– even brought along his daughter.

Three military jets at $57-hundred dollars an hour. ($5,740) Dozens flew commercial at up to two thousand dollars each. More than 300 (321) hotel nights booked - the bulk at Copenhagen’s five-star Marriott. Meals add tens of thousands more.

Nobody would defend the super-sized Congressional presence on camera. One Democrat said it showed the world the US is serious about climate change. And all those attendees who went to the summit rather than hooking up by teleconference? They produced enough climate-stunting carbon dioxide to fill 10,000 Olympic swimming pools. (40,500 tonnes/source: UN Framework Convention on Climate Change)

January 11, 2010 Breaking News

Quote of the Day;

“[A] rigid economy of the public contributions and absolute interdiction of all useless expenses will go far towards keeping the government honest and unoppressive.”

–Thomas Jefferson, letter to Marquis de Lafayette, 1823 Thanx Dave

Quote of the Day; Part II:

“There’s one last thing that’s a problem, which is my husband. You’ve seen what this is like; it will be a circus if I take this job,”

Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama when asked for the second time to become Secretary of State.

How’s that for frankness?

Reader Feedback:

Dear Glenn … big business is not complaining because they are now secretly closeted off shore. They have many footprints overseas where taxes and labor allow them to compete and where they can quietly squirrel their books and thereby lower their corporate taxes. They are not stupid and this is why they can quietly play the game here. However, things are getting so rotten I have no doubt that they are refining their plans in their boardrooms … The domestic business they do here is well, just for the nation. Nothing much is exported any more. You saw the ocean

liner bigger than the Reagan aircraft carrier that leaves Long Beach after delivering a huge load of imports and goes back with empty containers to China. I think we are done Thanx Blondie

Good point.

Observation of the Day:

Experience is that which allows us to be stupid in totally original ways.

Observations:

Of course, you know that we will have public health care regardless of what happens in congress if the basic structure of the Senate bill becomes law. The reason is that setting up the insurance companies as heavily regulated quasi public utilities will eventually kill the insurance companies. Medical underwriting will not be allowed and the government will control what is covered, how much the insurance companies can be charged and of course, the insurance companies won’t be able to turn anyone down.

Given the fact that the penalties for not having insurance are much lower than the cost of insurance, people won’t have it until they need it and will pay the cheaper penalties in the mean time. This will be exacerbated by the number of people that will voluntarily convert from employer sponsored insurance to personal insurance because they don’t have to pay for it until they need it and also for the government subsidies on premiums. Also, employers, now given the choice to unload another expense, or unable to continue due to the loss of so many members of their group, may do away with their employer sponsored insurance.

The yellow rats have decided that they don’t need the public option because they can regulate the insurance companies out of business and then step in as the only option.

And it now appears that once the health care bill is in full operation, it will add about $100 Billion a year to the deficit. The democrats are lying through their teeth to you.

And this doesn’t take into consideration the huge increase in state taxes to cover the increased cost of Medicaid that the government plans to push onto the states.

OK, everyone is now worried about terrorism and looking outside the country when, I suspect, they should be looking inside the country.

C.A.R.E., the largest muslim organization in the U.S. may be recruiting young radicals. I have been over this ground several months ago, but it bears repeating.

Also, everyone is worried about flying again and airport security is currently in the forefront again. Many are concerned that we might start profiling passengers. That would be a logical piece of the puzzle but there are better ways. We need to look no further than Israel. They have been under siege since the formation of the country and have pioneered aviation security. Here’s how it works.

From the moment you drive into the parking lot of the airport from one of two entrances, armed guards are there to monitor your car and ask you two questions: How are you and why are you here? Once inside, more questions follow as you wait in line to check in, accompanied by hand inspections of your bags when security personnel deem that wise. Finally, there’s a layer of scanners and metal detectors. At all stages of the process, the Israelis employ profiling, but it’s not profiling based on race, but on behavior. They are looking for things like body language and profuse sweating and other signs of unease. Crucially — and in contrast to the United States — your bag remains with you until your security check is

complete, and you do the security check before you obtain your ticket, not after. What really distinguishes the Israeli security measures, however, is the extensive use of questioning. It’s not just the casual “Have your bags been with you since you packed them?” sort of thing. It is, instead, detailed and probing and — significantly — once the security official starts asking you questions, s/he will never once take his eyes off of yours. This can be disconcerting, which is the point.

What they don’t do is profile people by country ; not a sure-fire way to screen all would-be terrorists to begin with. Also, by enflaming the embers of anti-Islamic sentiment, this tactic could actually incite more people to commit acts of terror out of sheer resentment, rather than contain such acts.

It’s also not clear that the best measure of the effectiveness of our airport security apparatus is the number of thwarted attacks, as is often thought to be the case. The best measure of our security is actually the number of attacks that aren’t even attempted because would-be perpetrators fear being caught. That’s counter-factual, and so it’s impossible to know for sure.

The question of it being counterfactual may not be politically desirable in this country, no matter how well it works. Kind of eliminates the bragging rights for those in power. The signs of success are the total lack of attacks that occur.

The two other issues with this is the sheer size of the U.S. and the number of intelligent people needed to pose all of those questions in all of those airports and secondly, it might require us to set up our own security within airports in other countries that originate flights into the U.S.

Did you hear that Chavez in Venezuela has devalued the Bolivar in a two-step deal, by up to 50%. Apparently he plans to drop it 17% when dealing with international trading partners, mainly to protect the price of his oil, but for in country use, it will be worth half what it was last year.

This is currently happening in this country, but in a much sneakier manner. The dollar has dropped about 25% in the past couple of years.

And it appears that good ol’ John McCain has awoken from his post presidential campaign slumber and has finally begun to realize that Obama does not represent business as usual! He is quoted as saying “President Obama is leading an extreme left-wing crusade to bankrupt America,” He also is calling himself “Arizona’s last line of defense”.

I guess I have to agree with him given that he may be the last person in the state to wake up to the danger Obama poses. And if he is the last line of defense, who the hell was our first line of defense? Not Big Sis, for sure.

Reid apologizes for racist remarks:

WASHINGTON (AP) – The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate apologized on Saturday for comments he made about Barack Obama’s race during the 2008 presidential bid and are quoted in a yet-to-be-released book about the campaign.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” Obama is the nation’s first African-American president.

“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments,” Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.

This just cracks me up. “With no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”? No wonder the dems are always talking about racism. They are a bunch of closet racists and tend to judge everyone else by their own racist attitudes.

Here’s a picture for the Ages:

This pretty much puts the final nail in the coffin of the old adage that seeing is believing.

Dems are equal opportunity when it comes to throwing people under the bus:

FOX NEWS: MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, one of the leading academic defenders of health care reform, is taking heat for failing to disclose consistently that he was under contract with the Department of Health and Human Services while he was touting the Democrats’ health proposals the media.

Gruber, according to federal government documents, is under a $297,600 contract until next month to provide “technical assistance” in evaluating health care reform proposals. He was under a $95,000 HHS contract before that.

But while he was being paid to provide his services to HHS, he was also fending off health care reform critics in the media. Gruber was one of the prominent analysts to rebut an insurance industry report from PricewaterhouseCoopers in October saying premiums would shoot up if a health care bill passes. And he has recently written columns defending specific provisions in the House and Senate bills, particularly the “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans.

The liberal base of the Democratic Party is widely opposed to that tax, out of fear that it will cut into union benefits – which may explain why the first criticism of Gruber came out of liberal blogs.

“I have never seen it disclosed that he was a paid consultant to the Obama administration,” a blogger for Firedoglake wrote Friday morning. “For months I have been angry with Gruber because I thought he was simply an exaggerator whose dangerous love of the spotlight was hurting the efforts of progressives to make sure the Senate bill adopted more progressive cost control solutions. … Now it is clear something much more sinister was at play.”

The Daily Kos declared that, given Gruber’s contract, the “fix was in” for the Cadillac plan.

Gruber, when contacted by Fox News, acknowledged that he has a contract with HHS, but he said it has nothing to do with his public advocacy.

Yeah, right. I am continually amazed at how corrupt the democrats are. They don’t even hesitate to throw their own under the bus.

More Corruption:

WASHINGTON (AP) - A House committee is planning to grill Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner about his role in the massive bailout of failed insurer American International Group Inc.

The House Oversight Committee is responding to news that key details about AIG’s bailout were suppressed by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York while Geithner was its president.

A growing chorus of lawmakers says Geithner must explain his involvement in deals that diverted billions from AIG’s bailout to Goldman Sachs and other big banks.

New York Democrat and committee Chairman Edolphus Towns says the hearing will examine the rise and fall of AIG and its business partners.

Apparently, law enforcement isn’t doing their job as well as they should. Otherwise, the entire administration from the top down would be in jail.

The other interesting thing that just occurred to me. Remember, right at the beginning when Warren Buffet, the “Oracle of Omaha”, signed on to the Obama bandwagon? That just puzzled the hell out of me at the time.

However, at the time, I had no idea of the proclivity for back door deals that the administration secretly harbored. If memory serves me, Buffet’s firm, Berkshire Hathaway, was a controlling shareholder in AIG at the time. It took at least two separate bailouts I think, to save AIG.

As that fades into the past, I have noticed that Buffets criticism of Obama’s policies has grown a little harsher. However, Buffet is not an ungrateful man and will continue to temper his comments.

74-year-old Legislator shoots intruder:

TABOR CITY, N.C. — A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition.

Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.

A spokeswoman at Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina said Monday that Blackburn was in fair condition.

Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.

The sheriff’s office said the State Bureau of Investigation was handling the case. A call to an agency spokeswoman was not immediately returned. There was no answer at a number listed for Soles’ home.

The Democrat has been in the Senate 32 years.

So what, you say? Senator Soles has been one of the most rabid anti-gun activists in the North Carolina Legislature for over a quarter of a century. The fact that he had no qualms about using a gun to protect himself has led some to question whether he considers his life more important than the lives of his constituents whom he has tried to disarm for over a quarter century.

Cocaine Causes Permanent Gene Changes:

Prolonged exposure to cocaine can cause permanent changes in the way genes are switched on and off in the brain, a finding that may lead to more effective treatments for many kinds of addiction, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

A study in mice by Ian Maze of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and colleagues found that chronic cocaine addiction kept a specific enzyme from doing its job of shutting off other genes in the pleasure circuits of the brain, making the mice crave the drug even more.

The study helps explain how cocaine use changes the brain, said Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health, which funded the study published in the journal Science.

Another nail in the coffin of the “drugs are harmless” theory.

Quote of the Day:

“We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.”

–Thomas Jefferson, letter to Samuel Kercheval, 1816 Thanx, David

Too Late!

Observation of the Day:

After watching the likes of Pelosi and Reid shame congress with their sleazy behavior, the oath to swear in a member of congress shall, from this time forward, be known as the “Hypocritic Oath”.

Observations:

Folks, I know that you are as weary of reading this newsletter as I am writing it. Unfortunately, now is not the time to give up. The yellow rats are going for the throat this month—for the jugular. It will be done in secret, as is their way, and then they will spring it on congress and try to force a vote on a bill that nobody has read.

And if things weren’t bad enough, while the president has taken our eyes off the economic ball with the terrorism issues, the U.S. keeps swirling towards the drain.

Folks, I went through this a number of months ago in this newsletter and nothing is different today, except we are closer to the disaster.

It appears that the administration has been secretly buying its debt back from investors within about 10 days after each treasury sale. In other words, the investors are buying the debt to make it look like our debt is being bought by third parties. However, we have tripled the deficit in Obama’s first year and there are not enough buyers to buy all the debt we are issuing.

Therefore, it appears that in another back door deal, the administration has made a deal with certain investors for them to purchase debt and then secretly sell it back to the government within about 10 days of the sale.

Do you know what that means? It means that the government has started to secretly monetize the debt. Folks, that is the first step to Hyperinflation!

The debt load, due to the condition of the economy, has grown unmanageable for the government! They no longer can sell as much as they are creating!

Here is what you are facing, folks, and I know that you think it can’t happen to you or this country. WRONG!

The way I see it, the government has a couple of alternatives at this point in time. The first and most practical is to shut down all unnecessary spending. This might have to be paired with modest tax increases, at least temporarily. This would be accompanied with an all out effort to create jobs and get the economy going again, and I don’t mean by ‘shovel ready’ methods.

The second alternative, as I see it is to continue to fund these huge programs to promote the ideological change in America, which includes the health care bill and the cap and trade among others. This would necessarily include colossal tax increases across the demographic spectrum if the country were not to go broke under the heavy deficit spending.

Thirdly, continue the deficit spending and not raise taxes significantly. That means the government goes broke. Your social security checks quit going out, your Medicare quits working, your government sponsored health care is useless, your military’s paychecks bounce. In short, government programs and the government stop and the country goes bankrupt; a process which will leave few people without the severe scars of such a catastrophic collapse.

The only other alternative is to monetize the debt, but that is a swift self-destructing Ponzi scheme. As the government buys more of its debt by printing currency with no backing, the value of the currency plummets. No other country wants it.

In a breathtaking short amount of time, our dollar becomes absolutely worthless. I have told you about the Weimar Republic that crashed with hyperinflation, thereby setting up the perfect storm for Hitler to take over Germany. Also, Zimbabwe just went through hyperinflation. They have 3 Trillion Zimbabwe dollar notes to buy a few groceries.

All in all, a bleak picture, especially if congress chooses the wrong road. IT IS A GOOD BET THAT WHAT WE DO THIS YEAR IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO SAVE LIFE AS WE KNOW IT IN THIS NATION!

Think I am an alarmist? You are right. I am! Someone needs to sound the alarm in this country.

But what if I am right?

We have strong historical evidence in several societies in which some of these courses of action led to ruin.

If I am right, by the time it becomes apparent to most people what the government is doing, it will be too late to do anything about it. This stuff isn’t reversible in a month or even a year. In fact, past a certain point, the chances are that it is not reversible at all!

And the government could very well have you just where they want you. Being totally dependent on government handouts for survival tends to make one more willing to give up one’s rights.

And if I am wrong and you all go out and raise hell with congress and stop this senseless spending. Well, it appears that you will stay even or gain and probably keep a little more of your take home pay in the process. Not a bad trade-off as I see it.

Read the following Quote.

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of

relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.” “1984″, by George Orwell

I think that a number of members of the current administration, if not all of them, reflect this attitude. When the white house communications director says that one of her all time favorite philosophers is Mao tse Tung, is she forgetting that this guy killed 70 million people to convert China to communism? I believe that he is on record saying that he was prepared to kill 300 million people to achieve his political goals.

A little good news for a change. My sister just informed me that she has a new puppy. Apparently, someone threw this little female Labrador puppy out into 20 below zero weather. She ended up in my sister’s yard, damn near frozen to death. Kudos to my sister.

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who provided the 60th vote for the senate health care bill and is being soundly thrashed for his effort by the state he represents, now says that Obama should have backed off pushing health care in favor of concentrating on the economy. Well duuuuhhh!

What have I been raising hell about for 8 months? The President is putting his political ideology ahead of the welfare of this nation. Period.

As things heat up and the wheels keep coming off of the 4th grade class’s wagon this year, you will hear the terms “democratic”, “racist” and “big business is bad” more and more.

The funny thing is that big business isn’t complaining. They have already been bought off by the administration. You see, contrary to what the liberals say, they like big business just fine, providing they can control them through back door deals.

Big business is the only real threat the radicals face because business has the capital to expose the government on a national basis if they become angry. You and I can’t muster that kind of capital.

And frankly, certain members of big business have earned my undying enmity for knuckling under to these clowns. If Obama perfects this overhaul of the country that he has in mind, business will find that Obama’s word isn’t worth the powder to blow it to hell once he doesn’t need them anymore. They will be unceremoniously thrown under the bus with the rest of us.

Troubled comic and Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange attempted suicide on Wednesday, according to reports. He allegedly stabbed himself 9 times. Doctors were able to save him.

It is a tragedy when anyone feels so locked into his or her unhappiness that suicide becomes an attractive alternative. I suppose if I was Howard Stern’s “sidekick”, I might look at suicide too.

Our favorite mayor, “Urban Phil” Gordon, serial sanctuary provider for illegal aliens, has now reported a surprise increase in the deficit faced by the City of Phoenix, of around $245 Million. He is now proposing a tax on food to help deal with that.

There is something about politicians taxing the basic necessities of life that just rub me the wrong way and this guy is beginning to give me a rash.

A few weeks ago, I reported that the deal to sell Saab was dead and General Motors was going to proceed with shutting down Saab and liquidating it.

It now appears that Spyker Automotive is back in the picture again and a modified deal is in the works.

All of the retirees that had stock in GM as part of their retirement need no longer be concerned because Obama liquidated their position, along with that of secured bondholders, and gave it to the union.

The evidence that Marxism is all about favors to one group at the expense of another group just keeps piling up!

Things are looking up, though. It looks like Obama is cancelling plans to deport Gitmo detainees to Yemen and instead will deport them to Illinois.

Apparently, he feels that, once properly trained, they would make great community organizers for ACORN.

By the way, did you hear what I heard in Tuesdays press conference on terrorism man caused disasters? Obama said that the existence of Gitmo was a primary recruiting tool for al Qaeda! That is perhaps the stupidest thing I have heard since Bill Clinton uttered those famous words, “I did not have sex with that woman”. (That little fabrication under oath was a main reason he was disbarred.)

These people are religious fanatics and I can tell you, without fear of contradiction from any rational human being, that they don’t give a rat’s fanny about perceived social injustice or human rights.

And if things weren’t bad enough, now we are finding out that under the Senate’s health care bill, as many as 23 million people would remain uninsured.

Why aren’t I surprised?

The New York Daily News reported that Michael Leiter, the top official in charge of analyzing terror threats did not cut short his ski vacation after the underwear bomber nearly blew up an airliner on Christmas Day.

A lot of people are making a big deal out of this, but my question is what he would do if he did cut his vacation short. Order his agency to investigate what happened? I suspect he did that by phone. The horse was already out of the barn.

Still, it is a public relations nightmare and for that reason alone, he probably should have cut it short.

Headline of the Day:

Midwest bracing for heavy snow, wind chills of -50

The Administration caught in another bald face lie:

NEWSMAX: The Obama administration official who declared there was “no smoking gun” that could have alerted authorities about an al-Qaida plot to bring down a U.S. airliner over Detroit had received a personal, high-level briefing in October warning of a new al-Qaida tactic of hiding a bomb in an attacker’s underwear. On Fox News Sunday, John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security, told host Chris Wallace, “There was no smoking gun. There was no piece of intelligence that said, ‘This guy’s a terrorist. He’s going to get on a plane.’ No, not whatsoever.” Brennan’s comment evoked derision from international expert Arnaud de Borchgrave Monday during an exclusive interview with Newsmax. TV’s Kathleen Walter. “I would call that twaddle in all its unrational splendor,” said de Borchgrave, author, syndicated columnist, and director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Despite Brennan’s contention that no smoking gun preceded the attack, Newsweek reported that Brennan received a personal briefing in October from Muhammad bin Nayef, the Saudi Prince who narrowly survived an al-Qaida assassination attempt in August. Nayef was wounded in the explosion, which used the same technique, and the same PETN explosive material, that authorities say Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab employed to try to bring down a Northwest airliner on Christmas Day.

Actually, I understand that John Brennan is a pretty competent guy. However, when you have an administration like this, it corrupts everything and everybody it touches.

Chicago slowly sinking into its own sewer:

NBC NEWS: The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam, sources tell Fran Spielman.

Dropping the exam would bolster minority hiring and avert legal battles, according to one source, while others confirm that the exam could be scrapped to open the process to as many people as possible.

However, the lack of an exam would make Chicago the lone major city without one, and experts contend that the exam is integral to eliminating unqualified applicants.

That is just plain wrong. Can you imagine calling 911 because someone is breaking into your house and these goofballs decide to finish the doughnuts and coffee before responding? This is just plain stupid. There is no reason to hire substandard officers, period!

Obama Reneges on Health Care Transparency:

(CBS) President Obama wants the final negotiations on health care reform - a reconciliation of the House and Senate versions of the bill - put on a fast track, even if that means breaking an explicit campaign promise. “The House and Senate plan to put together the final health care reform bill behind closed doors according to an agreement by top Democrats,” House Speaker Nanci Pelosi said today at the White House. The White House is on board with that, too, reports CBS News political correspondent Chip Reid. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stressed today that “the president wants to get a bill to his desk as quickly as possible.”

It appears that even the Lap dog media is becoming concerned with the stunning dishonesty of this administration.

Even CNN is savaging the white house and congressional leaders for this secrecy.

He pretty much calls a spade a spade.

Serial Intern Abuser has largest gay rights group after him now:

ABC NEWS: The country’s largest gay-rights group today demanded an apology from David Letterman, for making what it called “inappropriate and incendiary remarks” regarding President Obama’s appointment of a transgender woman to the Commerce Department.

In his monologue Tuesday, Letterman remarked that Amanda Simpson, a transgender woman, had been appointed to work in the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, where she will monitor the export of military technology.

As a photograph of Simpson was shown, announcer Alan Kalter shouted, “What? Amanda? Amanda used to be a dude?”

“Oh my God!” he shouted, before running off stage, with audience laughing.

It was actually a little funny for a change. Just call me Mr. Insensitive.

Medical Update:

BALTIMORE (UPI) — Injecting a corticosteroid directly into the eye may slow the progression of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, researchers in Maryland said. In experiments, the corticosteroid triamcinolone slowed progression of the disease, which is a complication of diabetes that frequently leads to blindness, researchers at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore said in a release Monday. The treatment is not yet ready for general use because of side effects, such as an increased risk for cataracts and glaucoma, said Neil Bressler, a chief ophthalmologist at the institute. “Steroid treatment worked, but because of safety issues, cannot be recommended routinely at this time,” Bressler said, noting the condition can be treated safely and effectively with lasers. Future research will explore further development of corticosteroids without the risk of severe side effects, he said in the December issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology.

Keep those letters and emails going to congress,

Quote of the Day:

“All I know is just what I read in the papers, and that’s an alibi for my ignorance.” –Will Rogers (1879-1935) US actor, humorist

That is especially true today…

Observations: (The alarm bells-they are a ringing!)

More good news…yeah, right. As the states are now having the chance to wade through the 4000 + pages of the two health bills, the alarm bells are beginning to go off.

The state of Arizona now calculates that the health care bill(s) in their current form will cost the state an additional $4 Billion over the next decade. This is in a state that has yet to solve its $2 Billion a year deficit.

We only have 6 or 7 million people in the state. Figure what the additional cost will be to states with larger populations…All except Nebraska, which Harry Reid now has decreed that the rest of the states will be picking up their increase in Medicaid costs, forever!

So we have a health care bill that will cost us a Trillion dollars over a 6-year period—they admit that (well at least the $1 Trillion). For an actual 10-year period, it is more like $1.7 Trillion.

But here is the killer. By simple extrapolation, an admittedly imprecise method, and if Arizona’s figures are correct, it would appear that the health care bill will cost taxpayers of America (except those of Nebraska) an additional $1.7 Trillion during that same 10 year period, through additional state taxes to support their expanded Medicaid bills that the Feds are transferring to them. So it would appear that the health care bill could cost taxpayers a whopping $3.4 Trillion over 10 years, not the advertised $1 Trillion!

Now we are having a big argument on Capitol Hill about the lack of leadership of the TSA, which Obama’s candidate is still waiting for confirmation.

The republicans have been holding up his nomination now for nearly a year because he reportedly lied to congress.

This guy, a former FBI agent, apparently accessed confidential personal records on his ex-wife’s boyfriend, abrogating the FBI’s rules in regard to this. He neglected to mention this and when caught, said it happened 20 years ago and he forgot.

Folks, this guy was an FBI agent; he broke the law and was censured, in writing, by the FBI for that misdeed. One does not forget that severe of a reprimand, I don’t care how many years ago that it happened.

I am beginning to wonder if the White House even knows anyone that isn’t a lawbreaker of some sort!

Global Warming Update:

Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. East Coast faces the coldest night of the season as frigid air spills south and threatens agriculture in Georgia, Alabama and the orange crop in Florida.

Freeze warnings were posted by the National Weather Service as far south as the Orlando area, which may be as many as 20 degrees below normal tonight, the National Weather Service said. The advisory alerts growers that subfreezing temperatures are imminent and may kill crops or other sensitive vegetation.

Tampa and others cities in the central part of the state are under a freeze warning from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. local time tomorrow. Temperatures may fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero Celsius) for more than three consecutive hours, the National Weather Service in Tampa said on its Web site.

“This is a pretty significant cold snap,” Matt Keefe, a meteorologist with AccuWeather.com Inc. in State College, Pennsylvania, said in a telephone interview. “This could really put a hurting on the citrus crop.” The cold temperatures could last for a good part of the week,” he said.

Jacksonville, Florida, may see a record low tonight, Keefe said. The Miami area will see temperatures 12 degrees to 13 degrees below normal for this time of year, Keefe said.

Tonight will be the coldest and offer the greatest danger of crop damage, Keefe said. The next chance for freezing will come next week.

OK all you farmers and orange grove owners; let’s have one rendition of that old favorite, “Give me that old time Global Warming”.

More:

BEIJING (Reuters) - Heavy snow hit Beijing on Sunday, stranding thousands of passengers at the main airport and casting an unusual quiet over normally busy streets as people stayed out of the freezing weather.

More than 90 percent of flights at Beijing’s Capital International Airport, the country’s busiest, were canceled or delayed, state television said, with only one of its three runways open.

Still More:

Britain facing one of the coldest winters in 100 years, experts predict

TELEGRAPH U.K.–Britain is bracing itself for one of the coldest winters for a century with temperatures hitting minus 16 degrees Celsius, forecasters have warned.

They predicted no let up in the freezing snap until at least mid-January, with snow, ice and severe frosts dominating.

And the likelihood is that the second half of the month will be even colder.

Let’s see now. If it walks like a duck…and it talks like a duck…

And still more:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Forecasters say the coldest stretch of weather in years if not decades could be heading for North Carolina. While temperatures won’t be falling to record lows, the National Weather Service says the duration of the cold weather is unusual. Highs could struggle to get above freezing for the next week in areas from Raleigh west.

It must be cold there. The Appalachian American apparently couldn’t stand it anymore and as of yesterday, left his North Carolina digs and flew back to Phoenix. You know its cold when a short legger leaves the hills in favor of the warmth of the Phoenix flat lands.

And I won’t even discuss what is going on in Chicago. Ever since their favorite son became president, the city has pretty much lost its luster for me.

Venezuela begins 2010 with electricity rationing

BREITBART: Oil-rich Venezuela ushered in 2010 with new measures rationing electricity use in malls, businesses and billboards, as Hugo Chavez’s government aimed to save power amid a crippling drought.

The new regulations came into effect January 1, with businesses required to comply with reduced consumption limits and authorities warning of forced power cuts and rate hikes if the measures are not followed.

A decree published on Christmas Eve states that commercial centers may operate from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on the electricity grid, but beyond that, establishments would have to operate off-grid, using their own generators.

Venezuela is flush with oil — the country’s primary export — and natural gas, but relies mainly on hydroelectric generation to meet domestic energy demand.

With the country in a widespread drought, late last year Chavez announced a sweeping campaign to reduce widespread energy “waste,” stressing that rationing was necessary to avoid a systemic “collapse.”

Tariff surcharges of up to 20 percent could be imposed on violators.

The state-controlled aluminum and steel industries halted some of their production lines in order to reduce energy consumption by some 560 megawatts (MW).

Electricity demand in Venezuela is more than 16,500 MW, far higher than what is currently generated. Experts say the power sector requires 18 billion dollars in investment through 2014.

In 2009 there were four nationwide blackouts, with daily failures common in several cities.

Are you paying attention? Isn’t central planning great? You will get a lot of that once Obama consolidates his power.

A subject near and dear to my heart:

PHOENIX (AP) — More than a year after Arizona became the first state in the country to deploy dozens of speed cameras on highways statewide, threats to the groundbreaking program abound.

A photo enforcement van in Arizona lights up a speeding car while recording its license plate.

Profits are far below expectations, a citizen effort to ban the cameras is gaining steam, the governor has said she does not like the program, and more and more drivers are ignoring the tickets they get in the mail after hearing from fellow speeders that there are often no consequences to doing so.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety introduced the cameras in September 2008 and slowly added more until all 76 were up and running by January.

Supporters say the cameras slow down drivers and reduce accidents, but opponents argue that they are intrusive and are more about making money than safety.

More than 300 communities in 25 states use cameras similar to Arizona’s, including New York, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. But the backlash seems to be particularly intense in Arizona. (I should clarify for out of state and out of country readers that the reason that the backlash is so strong in Arizona is that is just the way we are. Napolitano was a carpet-bagger that brought her big government, tax and spend ways out here.) Some people have shown their distaste with the cameras by covering them with boxes, sticky notes and Silly String. In locally infamous cases, one man took a pickax to a camera and another purposefully set off the cameras dozens of times while wearing a monkey mask. (I saw one in the village of Paradise Valley, the town who started this whole thing, about two or three years ago, that was riddled with about 6 bullet holes)

Lt. Jeff King, photo enforcement district commander for the Department of Public Safety, said his agency just wanted drivers to go the speed limit and did not understand all the backlash.

“Instead of spending so much time focusing on getting rid of cameras, why don’t they focus on the real problem, the root problem, which is getting people to drive the speed limit?” Lieutenant King said. “If everyone was to drive the speed limit, the cameras would never flash.”

The cameras led to more than 700,000 tickets to drivers going 11 miles per hour or more over the speed limit from September 2008 to September 2009, the most recent data available, according to the Department of Public Safety. The mandated fines and surcharges on all those tickets would total more than $127 million, but they had generated just $36.8 million through September, Lieutenant King said.

Some of the people who got those tickets are contesting them in court and could end up having to pay the fine, but many of them have gone unpaid because drivers know they have a good shot at getting away with ignoring them…The ticket becomes invalid if a violator who ignores it is not served in person within three months. It is nearly impossible to say how many people have ignored their tickets because courts do not track the figure.

Whatever the figure, overtaxed process servers cannot get to most of those people, and many of the citations go unpaid. That is part of the reason the speed cameras have not made as much money as expected. While certain to increase, that $36.8 million in revenue through September will still fall far below the $120 million a year that former Gov. Janet Napolitano (That name sound familiar?) hoped to put in the state’s coffers when she ordered up the program in early 2007. (Let’s see now. If it walks like a duck…and it talks like a duck…)

The camera operator, Redflex, may not even be breaking even. It cost the company $16 million to install the cameras, and it got back $4.6 million from September 2008 to June, Lieutenant King said.

I could write about 10 pages on this subject since I used to spend so much time on the road, when I was working. However, suffice to say that even if the state’s cameras go away, the cities in Maricopa County won’t let theirs go. They do make too much money from them.

Just for the record, a couple of my objections with the program is that I believe that the speed limits are posted at least 10 mph below the 85 percentile level that they should be, given the freeways that they are set up on. Also, I am told that the Department of Public Safety can ticket you for 1 mph over if they catch you in a manned radar car. So you think you got 11 mph and it turns out you don’t.

Secondly, you have to be on your toes and look for massive and unexpected braking due to these cameras. Typically, in a freeway setting, there is a telegraphing of accidents back as far as ¼ to ½ mile before the cameras, depending on how heavy traffic is. Since the accidents are telegraphed back, no one has figured out that the cameras actually cause a lot of these accidents.

And even if there are no accidents, the cameras will slow traffic suddenly, from 65 mph to 45 mph.

This is no time to give up,

Glenn

Definition for new readers: Yellow rat democrats, as opposed to Blue Dog Democrats, or just Democrats, are so named because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. Yellow Rat Democrats draw primarily from the so-called “progressive” democrats.

If you have watched the secrecy, lies and bribes that the democratic and house leaders have used to push the health care bill through, you understand what a yellow rat is.

January 1, 2010 Breaking News

Quote of the Day:

“Deliberation is the work of many men. Action, of one alone.” –Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970) French general and statesman

Make sure that this year, you are that one…

Observations: (Miscellaneous Ramblings)

As I sit here New Years Day morning, (I behaved last night…for a change) a jumble of contradictory thoughts are running through my mind. As with the dawn of any new year, hope for the coming year is right at the forefront of most people’s thoughts.

No sooner did that thought register than a contradictory one hit; we already fell for that hope and change thing last year and look what it got us. Now I am a little gun-shy of hope and change. I will never look at the concept the same again.

Still, hope springs eternal from the human breast, no matter what the odds against it are. I guess we can now hope that the hope and change from last year ends up in the garbage can this year.

And there is a possibility of that happening. With the elections this year, we can hope that the people can return a little sanity to congress. However, hope and $5 will get you a Starbucks.

No, it will take an effort by every one of you to make this hope happen. While I consider the Republican Party dead from the fanny both ways, right now they are the only game in town. I have contacted my local republican state committee to see what I can do to make a difference this year. (There’s a first time for everything)

I suggest you do the same. I also suggest that you make it one of your resolutions to talk to independent voters about the current crisis, and if necessary, use information that you get from this newsletter and other sources to counter the Kool Aid that they have been fed. We need all the help that we can get this year to take back congress.

I should clarify the above remark regarding our chance to take back congress. That would tend to indicate that I am favor of putting the republicans back in charge in congress. That is not necessarily the case, given the miserable record that the republicans racked up when they controlled congress between 2000 and 2006. However, as noted above, they are the only other game in town currently.

I think the best situation may be a stalemate in congress. Neither party makes much sense to me lately, but at least selected republicans are saying coherent things about solving the problems being created by the administration.

So, perhaps, that should be your resolution for the new year. To get active in the political process, contact your local republican party, talk to other people about facts, not ideology. We do have the facts on our side.

My liberal friends consider me an ideologue because my beliefs differ from theirs. That is because they look at me through an ideologue’s eyes. But in actuality, I am more of a pragmatist. As I tell them, I believe in what works.

Well, we are certainly roaring into the new year with my world-class proclivity for procrastination fully intact. Nothing like taking two days to write a short report.

I reported on the following issue with the Mayo Clinic a month or so ago but here is the latest information on what is in store for you if you are on Medicare, or ever hope to be on it. I reported the coming crisis in Medicare a couple of months ago. It’s here folks.

Mayo Clinic in Arizona to Stop Treating Some Medicare Patients

By David Olmos

Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) — The Mayo Clinic, praised by President Barack Obama as a national model for efficient health care, will stop accepting Medicare patients as of tomorrow at one of its primary-care clinics in Arizona, saying the U.S. government pays too little.

More than 3,000 patients eligible for Medicare, the government’s largest health-insurance program, will be forced to pay cash if they want to continue seeing their

doctors at a Mayo family clinic in Glendale, northwest of Phoenix, said Michael Yardley, a Mayo spokesman…

Obama in June cited the nonprofit Rochester, Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for offering “the highest quality care at costs well below the national norm.” Mayo’s move to drop Medicare patients may be copied by family doctors, some of whom have stopped accepting new patients from the program, said Lori Heim, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, in a telephone interview yesterday.

“Many physicians have said, ‘I simply cannot afford to keep taking care of Medicare patients,’” said Heim, a family doctor who practices in Laurinburg, North Carolina. “If you truly know your business costs and you are losing money, it doesn’t make sense to do more of it.”

The Mayo organization had 3,700 staff physicians and scientists and treated 526,000 patients in 2008. It lost $840 million last year on Medicare…

Nationwide, doctors made about 20 percent less for treating Medicare patients than they did caring for privately insured patients in 2007, a payment gap that has remained stable during the last decade… Congress last week postponed for two months a 21.5 percent cut in Medicare reimbursements for doctors…

Medicare covered an estimated 45 million Americans at the end of 2008, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the agency in charge of the programs. While 92 percent of U.S. family doctors participate in Medicare, only 73 percent of those are accepting new patients under the program, said Heim of the national physicians’ group, citing surveys by the Leawood, Kansas-based organization. …

Greater access to primary care is a goal of the broad overhaul supported by Obama that would provide health insurance to about 31 million more Americans. More family doctors are needed to help reduce medical costs by encouraging prevention and early treatment, Obama said in a June 15 speech to the American Medical Association meeting in Chicago.

Reid Cherlin, a White House spokesman for health care, declined comment on Mayo’s decision to drop Medicare primary care patients at its Glendale clinic.

Annual Costs

A Medicare patient who chooses to stay at Mayo’s Glendale clinic will pay about $1,500 a year for an annual physical and three other doctor visits, according to an October letter from the facility. Each patient also will be assessed a $250 annual administrative fee, according to the letter. Medicare patients at the Glendale clinic won’t be allowed to switch to a primary care doctor at another Mayo facility. …

Mayo’s decision may herald similar moves by other Phoenix- area doctors who cite inadequate Medicare fees as a reason to curtail treatment of the elderly, said John Rivers, chief executive of the Phoenix-based Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association.

“We’ve got doctors who are saying we are not going to deal with Medicare patients in the hospital” because they consider the fees too low, Rivers said. “Or they are saying we are not going to take new ones in our practice.”

OK folks, here is the ugly news. I am hearing from social security recipients that their checks are being cut as the government increases their cost of Medicare. My question is, if there was no increase in the cost of living which caused the administration to block cost of living raises for the next two years for social security recipients, then why are they raising the cost of Medicare to these people.

Second of all, Obama lauds the Mayo Clinic several months ago as an Icon in delivering quality medical care at a cost well below the national average. And yet, they aren’t making it on what Medicare is paying.

And congress just delayed for two months a scheduled cut of Medicare reimbursement of 21% to doctors.

Obama admits that we don’t have enough primary care physicians now but he is pushing a bill that supposedly would add another 30 Million plus patients to the load. Does that bode well for quality medical care?

Currently 92% of doctors participate in Medicare but only 73% are accepting new Medicare patients. Is that not the writing on the wall?

As I reported back in August, You will see more and more physicians dropping Medicare patients this year. But, if the coming Medicare reimbursement cut comes into being, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

Oh, and don’t forget, Obama plans to take $500 Billion from Medicare to help pay for his bureaucratic train wreck of a health care bill.

I am telling you folks, now is the time to buy stock in my new Soylent Green processing plant! The administration has declared that it is open season on seniors.

And just when things seem the worst, we get this nice little reminder to not give up hope…

‘Hand of God’ Seen in Christmas Eve Revival of Mother, Baby

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

DENVER —

Mike Hermanstorfer was clutching his pregnant wife’s hand when her life slipped away in a Colorado hospital on Christmas Eve, and then he cradled his newborn son’s limp body seconds after a medical team delivered the baby by Cesarean section.

Minutes later he saw his son come to life in his arms under the feverish attention of doctors, and soon he learned his wife had inexplicably come back to life.

“My legs went out from underneath me,” Hermanstorfer said Tuesday. “I had everything in the world taken from me, and in an hour and a half I had everything given to me.”

Hermanstorfer’s wife, Tracy, went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing during labor on Thursday, said Dr. Stephanie Martin, a maternal fetal medicine specialist at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, where the Hermanstorfers had gone for the birth of their son.

“She had no signs of life. No heartbeat, no blood pressure, she wasn’t breathing,” said Martin, who had rushed to Hermanstorfer’s room to help. “The baby was, it was basically limp, with a very slow heart rate.”

After their miraculous recovery, both mother and the baby, named Coltyn, appear healthy with no signs of problems, Martin said.

She said she cannot explain the mother’s cardiac arrest or the recovery.

“We did a thorough evaluation and can’t find anything that explains why this happened,” she said.

Mike Hermanstorfer credits “the hand of God.”

“We are both believers … but this right here, even a nonbeliever — you explain to me how this happened. There is no other explanation,” he said.

Asked about divine intervention, Martin said, “Wherever I can get the help, I’ll take it.”

Tracy Hermanstorfer, 33, was getting prepped for childbirth at the hospital Thursday morning and her 37-year-old husband was by her side when she began to feel sleepy and laid back in her bed.

“She literally stopped breathing and her heart stopped,” her husband said. Pandemonium erupted as doctors and nurses tried to revive her with chest compressions and a breathing tube, but nothing worked.

“I was holding her hand when we realized she was gone,” Hermanstorfer said. “My entire life just rolled out.”

Doctors told him, “We’re going to take your son out now. We have been unable to revive her and we’re going to

take your son out,” he recalled.

After the Cesarean section, some of the team rushed his wife to the operating room while the others attended to Coltyn.

“They hand him to me, he’s absolutely lifeless,” Hermanstorfer said. The doctors went to work on Coltyn as

Hermanstorfer held him, and soon he began to breath.

Enjoy the season,

Glenn
