January 11, 2010 Breaking News Update
11. January 2010 by Glenn.
We don’t normally do this but I think you will want to watch this tonight on CBS.. These guys really party hardy, and its all on your dime!
An exclusive report that will air tonight on CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC reveals the alarmingly high number of members of Congress who got an all-expense paid trip to Denmark — on your dime!
Nancy Pelosi was at the summit. She called the shots on who got to go. Among them, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and embattled Chairman of the Tax Committee Charles Rangel They were joined by 17 colleagues from both parties: Democrats: Waxman, Miller, Markey, Gordon, Levin, Blumenauer, DeGette, Inslee, Ryan, Butterfield, Cleaver, Giffords, and Republicans: Barton, Upton, Moore Capito, Sullivan, Blackburn.
The House delegation was so large, it needed three military jets: two 737’s and a Gulfstream Five. Up to 64 passengers
Add Senators and staff, most of whom flew commercial, and there were at least 101 Congress-related attendees. All for a summit that failed to deliver a global climate deal. As a perk, some took spouses, since they could snag an open seat on a military jet or share a room at no extra cost to taxpayers.
Congresswoman Giffords and her husband,Moore Capito and her husband, Markey took his wife as did Sensenbrenner. Congressman Barton– a climate change skeptic– even brought along his daughter.
Three military jets at $57-hundred dollars an hour. ($5,740) Dozens flew commercial at up to two thousand dollars each. More than 300 (321) hotel nights booked - the bulk at Copenhagen’s five-star Marriott. Meals add tens of thousands more.
Nobody would defend the super-sized Congressional presence on camera. One Democrat said it showed the world the US is serious about climate change. And all those attendees who went to the summit rather than hooking up by teleconference? They produced enough climate-stunting carbon dioxide to fill 10,000 Olympic swimming pools. Definition for new readers: Yellow rat democrats, as opposed to Blue Dog Democrats, or just Democrats, are so named because they behave like yellow rats; they are sneaky, they have no rules that they live by except to get what they want by any means necessary and they run for cover when someone shines a light on them. Yellow Rat Democrats draw primarily from the so-called “progressive” democrats.
If you have watched the secrecy, lies and bribes that the democratic and house leaders have used to push the health care bill through, you understand what a yellow rat is.

January 11, 2010 Breaking News
11. January 2010 by Glenn.
Quote of the Day;
“[A] rigid economy of the public contributions and absolute interdiction of all useless expenses will go far towards keeping the government honest and unoppressive.”
–Thomas Jefferson, letter to Marquis de Lafayette, 1823 Thanx Dave
Quote of the Day; Part II:
“There’s one last thing that’s a problem, which is my husband. You’ve seen what this is like; it will be a circus if I take this job,”
Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama when asked for the second time to become Secretary of State.
How’s that for frankness?
Reader Feedback:
Dear Glenn … big business is not complaining because they are now secretly closeted off shore. They have many footprints overseas where taxes and labor allow them to compete and where they can quietly squirrel their books and thereby lower their corporate taxes. They are not stupid and this is why they can quietly play the game here. However, things are getting so rotten I have no doubt that they are refining their plans in their boardrooms … The domestic business they do here is well, just for the nation. Nothing much is exported any more. You saw the ocean
liner bigger than the Reagan aircraft carrier that leaves Long Beach after delivering a huge load of imports and goes back with empty containers to China. I think we are done … Thanx Blondie
Good point.
Observation of the Day:
Experience is that which allows us to be stupid in totally original ways.
Observations:
Of course, you know that we will have public health care regardless of what happens in congress if the basic structure of the Senate bill becomes law. The reason is that setting up the insurance companies as heavily regulated quasi public utilities will eventually kill the insurance companies. Medical underwriting will not be allowed and the government will control what is covered, how much the insurance companies can be charged and of course, the insurance companies won’t be able to turn anyone down.
Given the fact that the penalties for not having insurance are much lower than the cost of insurance, people won’t have it until they need it and will pay the cheaper penalties in the mean time. This will be exacerbated by the number of people that will voluntarily convert from employer sponsored insurance to personal insurance because they don’t have to pay for it until they need it and also for the government subsidies on premiums. Also, employers, now given the choice to unload another expense, or unable to continue due to the loss of so many members of their group, may do away with their employer sponsored insurance.
The yellow rats have decided that they don’t need the public option because they can regulate the insurance companies out of business and then step in as the only option.
And it now appears that once the health care bill is in full operation, it will add about $100 Billion a year to the deficit. The democrats are lying through their teeth to you.
And this doesn’t take into consideration the huge increase in state taxes to cover the increased cost of Medicaid that the government plans to push onto the states.
OK, everyone is now worried about terrorism and looking outside the country when, I suspect, they should be looking inside the country.
C.A.R.E., the largest muslim organization in the U.S. may be recruiting young radicals. I have been over this ground several months ago, but it bears repeating.
Also, everyone is worried about flying again and airport security is currently in the forefront again. Many are concerned that we might start profiling passengers. That would be a logical piece of the puzzle but there are better ways. We need to look no further than Israel. They have been under siege since the formation of the country and have pioneered aviation security. Here’s how it works.
From the moment you drive into the parking lot of the airport from one of two entrances, armed guards are there to monitor your car and ask you two questions: How are you and why are you here? Once inside, more questions follow as you wait in line to check in, accompanied by hand inspections of your bags when security personnel deem that wise. Finally, there’s a layer of scanners and metal detectors. At all stages of the process, the Israelis employ profiling, but it’s not profiling based on race, but on behavior. They are looking for things like body language and profuse sweating and other signs of unease. Crucially — and in contrast to the United States — your bag remains with you until your security check is
complete, and you do the security check before you obtain your ticket, not after. What really distinguishes the Israeli security measures, however, is the extensive use of questioning. It’s not just the casual “Have your bags been with you since you packed them?” sort of thing. It is, instead, detailed and probing and — significantly — once the security official starts asking you questions, s/he will never once take his eyes off of yours. This can be disconcerting, which is the point.
What they don’t do is profile people by country ; not a sure-fire way to screen all would-be terrorists to begin with. Also, by enflaming the embers of anti-Islamic sentiment, this tactic could actually incite more people to commit acts of terror out of sheer resentment, rather than contain such acts.
It’s also not clear that the best measure of the effectiveness of our airport security apparatus is the number of thwarted attacks, as is often thought to be the case. The best measure of our security is actually the number of attacks that aren’t even attempted because would-be perpetrators fear being caught. That’s counter-factual, and so it’s impossible to know for sure.
The question of it being counterfactual may not be politically desirable in this country, no matter how well it works. Kind of eliminates the bragging rights for those in power. The signs of success are the total lack of attacks that occur.
The two other issues with this is the sheer size of the U.S. and the number of intelligent people needed to pose all of those questions in all of those airports and secondly, it might require us to set up our own security within airports in other countries that originate flights into the U.S.
Did you hear that Chavez in Venezuela has devalued the Bolivar in a two-step deal, by up to 50%. Apparently he plans to drop it 17% when dealing with international trading partners, mainly to protect the price of his oil, but for in country use, it will be worth half what it was last year.
This is currently happening in this country, but in a much sneakier manner. The dollar has dropped about 25% in the past couple of years.
And it appears that good ol’ John McCain has awoken from his post presidential campaign slumber and has finally begun to realize that Obama does not represent business as usual! He is quoted as saying “President Obama is leading an extreme left-wing crusade to bankrupt America,” He also is calling himself “Arizona’s last line of defense”.
I guess I have to agree with him given that he may be the last person in the state to wake up to the danger Obama poses. And if he is the last line of defense, who the hell was our first line of defense? Not Big Sis, for sure.
Reid apologizes for racist remarks:
WASHINGTON (AP) – The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate apologized on Saturday for comments he made about Barack Obama’s race during the 2008 presidential bid and are quoted in a yet-to-be-released book about the campaign.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” Obama is the nation’s first African-American president.
“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments,” Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.
This just cracks me up. “With no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”? No wonder the dems are always talking about racism. They are a bunch of closet racists and tend to judge everyone else by their own racist attitudes.
Here’s a picture for the Ages:
This pretty much puts the final nail in the coffin of the old adage that seeing is believing.
Dems are equal opportunity when it comes to throwing people under the bus:
FOX NEWS: MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, one of the leading academic defenders of health care reform, is taking heat for failing to disclose consistently that he was under contract with the Department of Health and Human Services while he was touting the Democrats’ health proposals the media.
Gruber, according to federal government documents, is under a $297,600 contract until next month to provide “technical assistance” in evaluating health care reform proposals. He was under a $95,000 HHS contract before that.
But while he was being paid to provide his services to HHS, he was also fending off health care reform critics in the media. Gruber was one of the prominent analysts to rebut an insurance industry report from PricewaterhouseCoopers in October saying premiums would shoot up if a health care bill passes. And he has recently written columns defending specific provisions in the House and Senate bills, particularly the “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans.
The liberal base of the Democratic Party is widely opposed to that tax, out of fear that it will cut into union benefits – which may explain why the first criticism of Gruber came out of liberal blogs.
“I have never seen it disclosed that he was a paid consultant to the Obama administration,” a blogger for Firedoglake wrote Friday morning. “For months I have been angry with Gruber because I thought he was simply an exaggerator whose dangerous love of the spotlight was hurting the efforts of progressives to make sure the Senate bill adopted more progressive cost control solutions. … Now it is clear something much more sinister was at play.”
The Daily Kos declared that, given Gruber’s contract, the “fix was in” for the Cadillac plan.
Gruber, when contacted by Fox News, acknowledged that he has a contract with HHS, but he said it has nothing to do with his public advocacy.
Yeah, right. I am continually amazed at how corrupt the democrats are. They don’t even hesitate to throw their own under the bus.
More Corruption:
WASHINGTON (AP) - A House committee is planning to grill Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner about his role in the massive bailout of failed insurer American International Group Inc.
The House Oversight Committee is responding to news that key details about AIG’s bailout were suppressed by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York while Geithner was its president.
A growing chorus of lawmakers says Geithner must explain his involvement in deals that diverted billions from AIG’s bailout to Goldman Sachs and other big banks.
New York Democrat and committee Chairman Edolphus Towns says the hearing will examine the rise and fall of AIG and its business partners.
Apparently, law enforcement isn’t doing their job as well as they should. Otherwise, the entire administration from the top down would be in jail.
The other interesting thing that just occurred to me. Remember, right at the beginning when Warren Buffet, the “Oracle of Omaha”, signed on to the Obama bandwagon? That just puzzled the hell out of me at the time.
However, at the time, I had no idea of the proclivity for back door deals that the administration secretly harbored. If memory serves me, Buffet’s firm, Berkshire Hathaway, was a controlling shareholder in AIG at the time. It took at least two separate bailouts I think, to save AIG.
As that fades into the past, I have noticed that Buffets criticism of Obama’s policies has grown a little harsher. However, Buffet is not an ungrateful man and will continue to temper his comments.
74-year-old Legislator shoots intruder:
TABOR CITY, N.C. — A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition.
Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.
A spokeswoman at Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina said Monday that Blackburn was in fair condition.
Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.
The sheriff’s office said the State Bureau of Investigation was handling the case. A call to an agency spokeswoman was not immediately returned. There was no answer at a number listed for Soles’ home.
The Democrat has been in the Senate 32 years.
So what, you say? Senator Soles has been one of the most rabid anti-gun activists in the North Carolina Legislature for over a quarter of a century. The fact that he had no qualms about using a gun to protect himself has led some to question whether he considers his life more important than the lives of his constituents whom he has tried to disarm for over a quarter century.
Cocaine Causes Permanent Gene Changes:
Prolonged exposure to cocaine can cause permanent changes in the way genes are switched on and off in the brain, a finding that may lead to more effective treatments for many kinds of addiction, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.
A study in mice by Ian Maze of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and colleagues found that chronic cocaine addiction kept a specific enzyme from doing its job of shutting off other genes in the pleasure circuits of the brain, making the mice crave the drug even more.
The study helps explain how cocaine use changes the brain, said Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health, which funded the study published in the journal Science.
Another nail in the coffin of the “drugs are harmless” theory.
